I Have a Wedding Order for 300 × 80 g Candles — How Much Wax, Fragrance Oil, Wick and How Many Jars Should I Order Including Backup Units?
Aktie
How much fragrance oil? 2,116.03 g including 3% pour loss, which rounds to 2,130 g of Jasmine (2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g) for ₹8,482.00. The oil is inside the 80 g, not added on top of it.
How many wicks and tins? 340 Eco Thin C1 wicks (3 × 100 + 2 × 20 packs, ₹2,006.00) covers 321 candles plus about 5% for wicks spoiled while setting. 324 Golden Aluminium Tins, 27 packs of 12, ₹9,720.00.
What does the whole order cost? ₹34,883.00 for all four materials, or ₹116.28 per candle the client pays for. The material cost of one finished tin is ₹105.09. Labour, lids, labels, boxes, freight and GST are extra. See the priced order.
One 80 g candle, split correctly
A wedding favour spec is almost always a finished weight: what the guest takes home. CSI works fragrance load as a share of that finished weight. So for any candle of weight W at load L, oil = W × L and wax = W × (1 − L). For an 80 g favour at 8%, that is 80 × 0.08 = 6.40 g of oil and 80 × 0.92 = 73.60 g of wax. Weigh those two numbers and you have an 80 g candle. Weigh 80 g of wax and then add oil, and you have an 86.40 g candle that overfills the line and uses more of both materials than you costed.
| Load | Oil per candle | Wax per candle | Wax if you wrongly buy 80 g + oil on top | Wax over-bought per candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 4.80 g | 75.20 g | 80 g | 4.80 g |
| 8% | 6.40 g | 73.60 g | 80 g | 6.40 g |
| 10% | 8 g | 72 g | 80 g | 8 g |
The mistake looks small per candle and large per order. Multiply 300 × 80 g and you get 24.00 kg. A lot of makers read that as the wax order and then buy 1,920 g of oil on top. The 300 favours actually need 22.08 kg of wax and 1,920 g of oil, so the naive order over-buys 1,920 g of wax, 8% of it. Here is the catch. Once you add backups, tests and pour loss, the real wax figure climbs to 24,334.37 g, close to the naive 24 kg. The two errors happen to cancel on this order. On a different order they will not, so do the calculation properly. Treating finished weight as pure wax walks through that error at 2,000 candles, where it costs real money.
Backups, tests and loss — the order they go in
There are three kinds of extra on a wedding order, and each one belongs at a different step. Mixing them up is how makers either run short on the morning of dispatch or end up with 3 kg of wax they did not need.
| Step | Candles | Finished weight | Oil | Wax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Client order | 300 | 24,000 g | 1,920 g | 22,080 g |
| + 15 backups (5%) | 315 | 25,200 g | 2,016 g | 23,184 g |
| + 6 test tins | 321 | 25,680 g | 2,054.40 g | 23,625.60 g |
| + 3% pour loss (material only) | 321 | — | 2,116.03 g | 24,334.37 g |
| Rounded to CSI packs | 324 tins | — | 2,130 g | 24,500 g |
Rounding to real CSI packs
Wax. 24,334.37 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks rounds to 24.50 kg: 4 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹14,675.00. A quirk of the listed prices is worth knowing. The 5 kg bag is ₹2,995.00, exactly ₹599.00 a kilo, but the 10 kg bag is ₹5,999.00, ₹599.90 a kilo. Two 10 kg bags plus a 5 kg (25 kg) would cost ₹14,993.00, and twenty-five 1 kg bags ₹14,975.00. The 5 kg bag is the most economical per kilo on this wax. The difference is ₹9.00 per 10 kg, so buy whichever bag size you prefer to store and handle.
Oil. 2,116.03 g of Jasmine rounds to 2,130 g: 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g, ₹8,482.00. Jasmine's 1 kg is ₹3,923.00 (₹3.92 a gram) and its 500 g ₹1,961.00, so two 500 g bottles cost a rupee less than one kilo. That difference is too small to matter. The 15 g bottles top up the last few grams more cheaply than a 50 g would. If you would rather keep a margin, a 50 g (₹230.00) in place of the two 15 g gives 2,150 g for ₹8,506.00.
Wicks. 321 candles plus about 5% for wicks bent, mis-tabbed or pulled off centre while setting is 338. Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 come in packs of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 at ₹5.90 a wick, so 3 × 100 + 2 × 20 packs give 340 wicks for ₹2,006.00. Thin C1 is our working choice for a small tin, but CSI does not publish a wick size per container diameter. Burn one test tin to a full melt pool before you commit, and see I Need 1,000 Candles and Each Uses One Wick — Should I Order Exactly 1,000 Wicks or Keep Additional Pieces for Testing, Defects and Production Mistakes? for the wick extras on larger runs.
Tins. The Golden Aluminium Tin is sold in packs of 12 for ₹360.00 (₹30.00 a tin). 321 tins need 27 packs, which is 324 tins for ₹9,720.00, with 3 spare. Tins do not break the way glass does, so we have not added a container breakage allowance on top of the backups. For a glass favour, add one; I Need 1,000 × 60 g Wedding Favours — How Much Wax Should I Buy When I Also Need 50 Additional Candles for Samples, Replacements and Breakage? shows how at 1,000 units.
The priced order
Here is the complete order for 300 × 80 g favours with the allowances above. Oil and wax are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and tin prices are CSI listings, verified 10 September 2026 and re-checked in the 24–25 September pull.
| Material | Calculated need | Packs to buy | Quantity bought | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 24,334.37 g | 4 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | 24.50 kg | ₹14,675.00 |
| Jasmine Fragrance Oil | 2,116.03 g | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹8,482.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 338 wicks | 3 × 100-pack + 2 × 20-pack | 340 wicks | ₹2,006.00 |
| Golden Aluminium Tin (85 g fill) | 321 tins | 27 × pack of 12 | 324 tins | ₹9,720.00 |
| Total | ₹34,883.00 |
That is ₹116.28 of raw material for each of the 300 favours the client pays for, because the backups and tests are carried by the order. The material cost of one finished tin, at the rates bought, is ₹44.09 of wax, ₹25.11 of Jasmine at the 1 kg rate, ₹5.90 of wick and ₹30.00 for the tin: ₹105.09. That excludes labour, lids, labels, ribbon, boxes, courier and GST, which you add from your own quotes. I Have a Corporate Order for 500 × 150 g Candles in One Fragrance — How Do I Calculate the Exact Raw-Material Requirement Before Sending My Quotation? shows how to turn this into a quotation.
You will finish with some leftovers: 0.17 kg of wax, 13.97 g of oil, 2 wicks and 3 tins, plus whatever the backups do not use. That is the cost of buying in packs. It is small, and the wax and wicks carry straight into your next order.

If the couple wants a different scent
Wax, wicks and tins stay the same whatever the scent. Only the oil changes. Here is the same 2,116.03 g requirement rounded to packs for other in-stock florals and woods that suit a wedding table. Mogra and Rajnigandha would be natural wedding florals, but both are out of stock on the pull date, so we have not planned with them.
| Oil | Packs to buy | Bought | Oil cost | Oil per poured tin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jasmine | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹8,482.00 | ₹26.42 |
| British Rose | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹6,667.00 | ₹20.77 |
| Gardenia | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹9,307.04 | ₹28.99 |
| Raat Ki Rani | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹14,508.00 | ₹45.20 |
| Sandalwood | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 2,130 g | ₹10,742.72 | ₹33.47 |
| White Royal Oud | 2 × 1 kg + 8 × 15 g | 2,120 g | ₹17,246.00 | ₹53.73 |
The spread is wide. British Rose puts ₹20.77 of oil into each poured tin and White Royal Oud ₹53.73, more than two and a half times as much. For a favour that is given away, the couple's budget usually decides. Show them the per-tin figure, not the bottle price. If the order splits across two or three scents, each oil has to be rounded to packs on its own, and that adds leftovers. I Have a 500-Candle Wedding Order Split Between 200 Lavender, 200 Rose and 100 Oud — How Much of Each Fragrance Should I Buy at 8% Load? and I Have a 1,000-Candle Wedding Order Split Across Four Fragrances — How Do I Calculate Wax and Individual Fragrance Requirements for Each Scent? work through split orders.
| Load | Oil per tin | Oil needed | Wax needed | Oil packs | Wax packs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 4.80 g | 1,587.02 g | 24,863.38 g | 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g · ₹6,314.00 | 5 × 5 kg · ₹14,975.00 |
| 8% | 6.40 g | 2,116.03 g | 24,334.37 g | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g · ₹8,482.00 | 4 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g · ₹14,675.00 |
| 10% | 8 g | 2,645.04 g | 23,805.36 g | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹10,467.00 | 4 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg · ₹14,376.00 |
Load is a performance decision before it is a quantity one. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% by the wax maker and CSI 464 up to 10%. Those are formulation maximums, not targets. CSI publishes no throw data per oil, so settle the load with your own test tins, then run the numbers.
Which wedding or corporate calculation is yours
This page is the hub for ten calculations that event and corporate makers ask most often. Use this table to jump to the one that matches your order. Each page runs the same method with its own numbers, so you can check your working against a finished example.
| Your situation | The complication | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| One scent, 500 favours of 100 g | Choosing between three waxes at 48 kg | 500 × 100 g lavender |
| Three scents in fixed numbers | Rounding each oil to packs separately | 200 / 200 / 100 split |
| 1,000 favours in four scents | Building a per-scent requirement sheet | Four-scent wedding order |
| 1,000 × 60 g plus 50 extras | Samples, replacements and breakage | 50 additional favours |
| Order grew from 500 to 750 | Buying only the increment | Order increase after purchase |
| 250 corporate candles + 5% stock | Finished-stock buffer vs material buffer | 5% extra finished stock |
| 500 × 150 g before quoting | Cost per unit for the quotation | Pre-quotation requirement |
| 1,000 × 200 g with rejects | Grossing up for a reject rate | Rejects expected |
| 2,000 × 100 g on a deadline | What must be in hand before you say yes | Securing material for a deadline |
Two pages outside this cluster are worth reading alongside any event order. 200 ml does not mean 200 g explains why a jar's volume is not its fill weight, which matters for every container except the two with published fills. A 20% increase at the last minute covers whether to buy ahead of an increase the client has not confirmed.
Before you pour, put the calculation in writing next to the client's confirmed quantity, scent and delivery date. If any of those three changes, you rerun one column instead of guessing. It is also the page to have in front of you when you ask us to check stock.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. For a quantity calculator, the convenient answer for a supplier is "round up to the next big bag". This page does the opposite: it shows that the 10 kg Chunks bag costs slightly more per kilo than the 5 kg, and that most oils do not get cheaper above 500 g, so you buy what the order needs.
Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and tin prices are CSI listings verified on 10 September 2026 and re-checked in the 24–25 September pull. Out-of-stock oils (including Mogra and Rajnigandha) are named as unavailable, not priced. Every per-candle, per-batch and pack figure is plain arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check it.
The 5% backup, the six test tins, the 3% pour loss and the 5% wick allowance are working assumptions, not measured CSI rates. Replace them with your own records as soon as you have them. Non-price figures and assumptions: Load is a share of finished candle weight: oil = WT × L, wax = WT × (1 − L). The 80 g fill in an 85 g tin, the 5% backup (15 candles), 6 test tins, 3% pour loss and 5% wick allowance are labelled working assumptions. Per-candle material cost (₹105.09) uses wax at ₹599.00 / kg, Jasmine at its 1 kg rate, one Thin C1 wick and one tin, and excludes labour, lids, labels, packaging, freight and GST. Wick size per container is not published by CSI; confirm by burn test. Fragrance-load ceilings of up to 13% (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) and up to 10% (CSI 464) are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits.
