CSI Wedding Orders · Sculptural Candles
Moulded orders run on two counts: mould cycles, which every reject uses up, and mix, which remelting mostly returns. Weigh one piece, count the cycles, and let your production days set the number of moulds.

Quick answers — read this first
How many moulds do I need for 500 sculptural candles? Moulds = cycles needed ÷ (cycles per mould per day × production days), rounded up, plus spares. Worked: 500 pieces + 10 extras at an 8% reject rate need 555 cycles; at 2 cycles a day for 10 days that is 28 moulds, plus 3 spares = 31 moulds, ₹16,424.42 at ₹529.82 each.

How much wax and fragrance? Weigh one finished piece first. At a worked 140 g and 8% (11.2 g oil + 128.8 g wax), with rejects remelted and a 3% mix loss, you need 67.75 kg of Soy Pillar Wax and 5,891.2 g of British Rose: ₹40,800.00 and ₹18,301.80.

Which wick for a freestanding shape? Braided cotton cut to length and threaded through the mould: the Braided Wick Roll at 13 cm a piece gives 469 wicks a roll, so 2 rolls (₹1,413.64). Size it by a burn test of the actual piece, not by its weight.

What decides the mould bill? Days. The same 555 cycles need 62 moulds in 5 days (₹32,848.84) and 22 in 14 (₹11,656.04). Every day you add to production saves moulds; every reject costs a cycle even though its wax is remelted.
The short answer
The moulds: 555 cycles ÷ (2 × 10) = 28, + 3 spares = 31; ₹16,424.42 (₹32.85 a piece).
The mix: one weighed piece × 526 pieces’ worth = 73.64 kg: Soy Pillar Wax 67.75 kg, British Rose 5,891.2 g at 8%.
The wick: braided cotton cut to 13 cm, 555 cycles + 12 test pieces = 73.71 m: 2 rolls of the Braided Wick Roll.
The total: ₹77,883.86 in moulds and materials, ₹155.77 per saleable piece; consumables alone ₹121.03 a piece.
Fewer days means more moulds 555 cycles (500 pieces + 10 extras, 8% rejects), 2 cycles per mould per day, +10% spare moulds. 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 moulds to buy 62 moulds ₹32,848.84 5 days 56 + 6 spare 44 moulds ₹23,312.08 7 days 40 + 4 spare 31 moulds ₹16,424.42 10 days 28 + 3 spare 22 moulds ₹11,656.04 14 days 20 + 2 spare hatched = spare moulds (labelled 10%). Mould: Love Couple Candle Silicon Mould, ₹529.82 each, CSI live 7 October 2026. Cycles per day come from your demould time; piece weight, rejects and days are labelled worked examples.
The mould count for the worked order at four production windows. The cycles are fixed by the order and the reject rate; the moulds are those cycles spread over the days you have. Ten days needs 31 moulds (₹16,424.42); squeezing into five doubles the mould bill, and stretching to fourteen cuts it by almost a third.
Straight answer
I need 500 sculptural wedding candles — how do I calculate mould quantity as well as wax, fragrance and wick requirements?
Work in three counts, in this order. The piece: pour and weigh one finished piece from the actual mould, because mould pages rarely state cavity weight; that weight × the load gives oil and wax per piece (140 g at 8% = 11.2 g + 128.8 g, worked). The cycles: every piece you pour, including the ones you reject, uses one mould cycle, so cycles = (500 + 10 extras) ÷ (1 − reject rate) = 555 at a worked 8%. The moulds: cycles ÷ (cycles per mould per day × production days), rounded up, plus spares for wear and tears: 555 ÷ (2 × 10) = 28, + 3 = 31 moulds, ₹16,424.42. Materials follow a different count from cycles, because rejected pieces are remelted: 526 pieces’ worth of mix gives 67.75 kg of Soy Pillar Wax and 5,891.2 g of British Rose. Wick freestanding shapes with braided cotton cut to length (2 Braided Wick Rolls at 13 cm a piece), and confirm the size with a burn test of the real piece. Your cycles per day come from your own demould time; that calculation is its own post.
One line: weigh one piece, count cycles including rejects, divide by cycles a day × days, add spares, and buy wax and oil on remelt-adjusted mix.
Test stage first: 2 Love Couple moulds (₹1,059.64), British Rose 100 g + 50 g (₹554.60), Soy Pillar Wax 2 × 1 kg (₹1,200.00), one Braided Wick Roll, the sealer and the needle: ₹4,465.06. In stock on 7 October 2026.

Your order as numbers, starting with one weighed piece

Every number in a moulded order hangs off one piece on a scale.

The title gives one figure, and it is yours: 500 sculptural candles. The rest is a worked example. The client has chosen a couple figure for the reception tables, poured in CSI’s Love Couple Candle Silicon Mould. The mould page states no cavity weight, so you poured one piece and weighed it: 140 g. Scented with British Rose at 8% (11.2 g oil + 128.8 g wax, total-weight basis) in Soy Pillar Wax. Your demould time gives 2 cycles per mould per day (how to calculate that from a six-hour demould), and you have 10 production days.

The worked order
Reader's figure (title) and labelled worked examples · load = % of total piece weight
Fact Figure Why it matters
Pieces ordered 500 Reader's figure (title)
Planned extras 10 (client sample, retains, burn-test pieces) They need cycles and mix too
One weighed piece 140 g Sets mix per piece
Load 8% = 11.2 g oil + 128.8 g wax Within the oil page’s stated 10%
Piece rejects 8% of pieces poured Each reject costs a cycle
Mix loss after remelting 3% Rejects mostly come back as wax
Cycles per mould per day 2 From your demould time (6357)
Production days 10 Sets the mould count
Mistake: estimating piece weight from the mould’s size or a photo. Why it fails: sculptural cavities have hollows, thin limbs and bases that make volume guesses unreliable, and a 20 g error is 10 kg of wax across 500 pieces. Fix: pour one piece in the actual mould with the actual wax, let it set, trim it as you will for the client, and weigh it.

One weighed piece is the start, not the end. Once the test stage has produced a dozen pieces, weigh them all after trimming: if they range from, say, 136 g to 144 g, plan on the average and watch the spread, because an uneven fill level in the mould changes both the weight and how the base sits. A heavier-than-planned average across 500 pieces is the commonest reason a moulded order runs short of wax on the last day.

Cycles and mix are different counts

A rejected piece goes back in the pot. Its mould time does not come back.

With container candles, a reject and a lost jar are often the same event. With moulded pieces they split apart. A piece with a bubble, a torn limb, a heavy seam or a drifted wick is melted down and poured again, so most of its wax and oil return; but the mould spent a full cycle making it, and that cycle is gone. So you need two counts:

Two counts from one order
Worked figures · use your own reject and loss rates
Count Formula Worked Drives
Mould cycles (500 + 10) ÷ (1 − 8%) 555 How many moulds
Pieces’ worth of mix (500 + 10) ÷ (1 − 3%) 526 How much wax and oil
Wicks one per cycle (a remelted piece needs a new wick) 555 How much braided roll

The mix loss (3% here) is what does not come back: wax left in the pot and pitcher, seam trimmings that are not remelted, and the fragrance you choose not to reuse. Many makers remelt scented rejects only once, or blend them into fresh wax in small proportions, because repeated heating can weaken a scent; that is a tendency to test, not a rule. If you never remelt rejects, use the same rate for both counts and buy more wax.

Measure your sculptural reject rate separately
Sculptural shapes usually reject more than plain pillars: fine detail traps air, thin parts tear at demoulding, and seams need finishing. Track rejects per mould design on the test stage and first production day, not from your container-candle history.

How many moulds, and what days do to the bill

Moulds are capacity you buy one at a time.

With cycles fixed, the mould count is a division: moulds = cycles ÷ (cycles per mould per day × production days), rounded up. 555 ÷ (2 × 10) = 27.75, so 28. Silicone moulds wear: thin parts tear, wick holes stretch, surfaces dull. So add spares, a labelled 10% here (3 moulds), and inspect every mould at the start of each day. That gives 31 moulds at ₹529.82 each: ₹16,424.42, or ₹32.85 per saleable piece.

Production days against mould count · worked
Same 555 cycles, 2 cycles per mould per day, 10% spares rounded up · Love Couple mould at ₹529.82
Days Moulds for cycles Spares Moulds to buy Cost
5 56 6 62 ₹32,848.84
7 40 4 44 ₹23,312.08
10 28 3 31 ₹16,424.42
14 20 2 22 ₹11,656.04

The design matters as much as the days. The same 31 moulds of the David Candle Mould (14.5 cm tall, ₹3,540.00 each on its page) would cost ₹1,09,740.00, ₹219.48 a piece in moulds alone, before a heavier piece multiplies the wax. When a client chooses a sculpture, show them the mould bill for their choice next to a simpler one.

Two designs means two counts

Wedding clients often want more than one shape: couples for the head table, roses for the guest tables. Moulds cannot be shared between designs, so run the division once per design, with each design’s own piece weight and reject rate, and add spares per design. Splitting 500 into 300 couples and 200 roses at the same rates and days gives 17 couple moulds and 12 rose moulds before spares, one more than the single-design count, because each design rounds up on its own. Small rounding like that is the cost of variety; a third or fourth design adds a little more each time, plus another test stage, which is a calendar cost rather than a mould cost.

Number every mould
Write a number on each mould’s outside and log rejects against it. When one mould starts producing torn or bubbled pieces, it shows up in the log by midday, and it moves to the spares shelf before it costs you a day’s cycles.

Check the melt side too: 28 moulds at 2 cycles is 56 pours a day, about 7.84 kg of mix, which one fill of a 10 kg Electric Wax Melter (₹21,240.00) covers if you already own one; the page’s own capacity and speed claims are the manufacturer’s, not tested here. The three-constraint view (melt, moulds, people) for a short deadline is 6303.

Argued against our own interest: do not buy all 31 moulds before the client has approved a finished piece. Buy two for the test stage (₹1,059.64); if the client changes the design after seeing it, you have spent two moulds, not 31. And if you can win four more production days from the client’s timeline, take them before you buy moulds: 14 days needs 22 moulds, ₹4,768.38 less than 10 days.

Wax, fragrance and wick for freestanding pieces

A freestanding candle has no jar to hold it up, hold its heat in, or hide its flaws.

Wax

Use a wax made for pillars and moulded shapes. CSI’s Soy Pillar Wax is listed "specially made for pillar and designer candles"; container waxes are formulated to cling to glass, which is the opposite of what you want at demoulding. The captured page text states no fragrance-load ceiling and no pour temperature, so the oil page’s maximum governs the load and your test pours decide the temperature (too hot and fine detail can show more shrinkage and seams; too cool and surfaces can look rough, both tendencies to check on the test). 526 pieces’ worth × 128.8 g = 67.75 kg. Because the wax is flat at ₹600.00 a kilo, buy to the kilo: 68 kg (₹40,800.00), 0.25 kg spare, rather than seven 10 kg bags. Per piece, that is ₹77.28 of wax.

Fragrance

British Rose’s page states "candles (up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin)". Test 6%, 8% and 10% on three pieces each, because a freestanding shape releases scent from a pool that forms differently from a jar candle. 526 × 11.2 g = 5,891.2 g, bought as 5 × 1 kg + 500 g + 4 × 100 g (₹18,301.80); about ₹34.36 of oil per piece. Fragrance oils are not essential oils, and nothing here is a wellbeing claim: rose is a scent many people associate with weddings, nothing more.

Wick

Freestanding pieces are usually wicked with braided cotton threaded through the mould with a needle, held centred at the open end while the wax sets, and trimmed after demoulding. Length per piece = piece height + enough to thread, hold and trim: a worked 10 cm piece + 3 cm = 13 cm. The Braided Wick Roll (61 m) gives 469 wicks at that length, so 555 cycles plus 12 test pieces (73.71 m) need 2 rolls (₹1,413.64), about ₹1.51 of wick per piece. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are listed for "pillar, container, and decorative candles", but at 10.16 cm tall they are too short to thread and anchor through a 10 cm sculpture; keep them for smaller pieces.

Mistake: choosing the wick by the piece’s weight or by what worked in a jar. Why it fails: a sculpture burns through changing cross-sections (a thin neck, a wide base), with no glass to contain the pool, so a wick that suits one part can drown or flare at another. Fix: burn whole test pieces from top to base on a heat-proof plate, watching flame height, dripping, and how thin parts behave; adjust before you cut 72 metres of wick. CSI’s two cut-to-length braided wicks state no sizes, so if the burn asks for a different braid, try the other one on a few pieces and ask on WhatsApp rather than guessing.

The moulds are the only line that does not get used up, and they are not client-specific: a couple mould is reusable for the next wedding, which is a reason to price them partly into this job and partly into your own equipment, by your own judgement. Consumables alone come to ₹121.03 a piece; with every mould charged to this job, ₹155.77. Both exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. The general layout of a bulk purchase sheet is 6340; this one changes only in having two drivers (cycles and mix).

In the worked plan: test stage 7 days, production 10, finishing, QC and packing 3, delivery 2, slack 2: 24 days from the first test pour. If the wedding is closer than that, the choices are more moulds (and confirming you can get them), a simpler design, or fewer pieces; never skipping the burn test. Securing every critical material before promising the date is 6355.

Commercial protection (practical judgement, not legal advice): quote moulds as a visible line, agree in writing who owns them afterwards, collect an advance that covers the moulds and the scented materials before you buy them, and state that a design change after approval restarts the test stage and its cost. Freestanding candles drip and need a heat-proof base; include a care note with each piece, and say so in the quote. The approvals list is 6359.
This page is for you if you have a moulded or sculptural order and need the mould count and the material quantities. Read elsewhere if your question is how many cycles a mould gives per day from its demould time (6357), or the pieces go into custom jars (6352).

Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs (61 meters)
Braided cotton on a roll, and the page says "You can cut the wick to the desired length"; for a moulded piece the wick is threaded through the mould and held at the open end, so the 100 tabs are optional. At ₹11.59 a metre it is far cheaper per metre than Eco Braided (₹82.60 at 10 m, and that page describes it for large-diameter container jars). Honest limitation: CSI lists no sized range of braided wick. This roll and Eco Braided (sold by the metre and described for large-diameter container jars) state no sizes, so if your burn test wants a different braid, Eco Braided is the only other cut-to-length option to try; beyond that, ask on WhatsApp rather than force it.

The CSI principle
Weigh one piece, count every cycle, and let the days set the moulds.
Rejects cost mould time even when their wax comes back, so count cycles and mix separately, add labelled spares, wick by a whole-piece burn, and approve a finished piece before buying the full set.
"Every extra production day you can win is a mould you don’t have to buy."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the mould, wax, oil, wick roll and tools in this example, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy two moulds before approval rather than 31, to win production days before buying moulds, to round our flat-priced pillar wax to the kilo, and that our cut-to-length braided wicks state no sizes.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026; every item offered here is in stock on that date. CSI publishes no mould cavity weights, no stock depth for moulds and no dispatch times: confirm those on WhatsApp.

The 500 pieces are the reader’s figure; piece weight, load, rejects, mix loss, cycles per day, production days, spares, wick length and calendar are labelled worked examples; prices are data. Frequently asked questions

How many silicone moulds do I need for 500 candles?
Divide the cycles needed (pieces plus extras, grossed up for rejects) by cycles per mould per day × production days, round up and add spares. Worked: 555 ÷ (2 × 10) = 28, + 3 spares = 31 moulds.
How do I calculate wax for moulded candles?
Weigh one finished piece, multiply by the pieces’ worth of mix you need (allowing for remelted rejects), and split by the load. Worked: 526 × 140 g at 8% = 67.75 kg of wax and 5,891.2 g of oil.
What wick should I use for sculptural or figure candles?
Braided cotton cut to length and threaded through the mould is the usual choice. Confirm the size by burning whole test pieces from top to base; a sculpture’s changing shape matters more than its weight.
Can I use container soy wax in silicone moulds?
It is made to cling to glass, which works against clean demoulding and crisp detail. A wax listed for pillars and moulded candles, such as Soy Pillar Wax, suits freestanding pieces; test either way.
How much fragrance oil do sculptural candles need?
The same load maths as any candle: piece weight × load. Stay within the oil page’s stated maximum (British Rose states up to 10% in soy) and test 6%, 8% and 10% on whole pieces.
Do rejected moulded candles waste wax?
Mostly not: rejects are usually remelted and repoured, so the wax and oil largely come back. The mould cycle and the wick do not, which is why cycles and mix are counted separately.
500 sculptural pieces
31 moulds, 67.75 kg of pillar wax, 5,891.2 g of rose, 2 wick rolls.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — 40 Cavity Square Moulds, British Rose Fragrance Oil, Premium Candle Wicking Needle, Ribbed Pillar Mould (3 Different Sizes), Soy Pillar Wax (Specially made for Pillar and Designer Candles). They are general product reviews, not assessments of the bulk-order advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Deepika k., Delcy Fernandes, Radhaa S, Arshad Shaikh. The reviews from Lalitha Jagan, LJ are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

British Rose’s page states up to 10% in soy; Soy Pillar Wax’s captured page text states no ceiling; ceilings are formulation limits, not regulatory ones.
