Diwali 2026 is closer than your stock sheet thinks
You are reading this with Diwali on 8 November 2026 and the festive season already moving. Navratri begins on 11 October, Dussehra follows on 20 October, Karwa Chauth on 29 October and Dhanteras on 6 November. Gifting orders can land well before Diwali week, so your 1,000 candles need to be poured and cured well before the date on the calendar that everybody watches.
The decision: order all at once, or in two parts
The full plan for 1,000 × 200 g with a 10% buffer is 202.4 kg of CSI 464, which runs to just over a lakh of rupees at listed prices. That is a lot of cash to commit in one go. A sensible split is to order your tested wax for the first half of production now, pour and sell into Navratri, then place the second order once you see how the first candles are moving. Split it only if you have already confirmed with CSI on WhatsApp roughly how long an order takes to reach you, because delivery times are not quoted and the festive weeks are busy for everyone.
The trap: a buffer on wax, but not on oil
Makers who add 10% to wax often forget to add it to fragrance. At 16 g a candle, 1,000 candles need 16 kg of oil. With a 10% buffer that is 17.6 kg, so at least 18 bottles of 1 kg, and more once you round up scent by scent. Running out of your best-selling oil in late October is harder to fix than running out of wax, because you cannot simply swap in another scent that customers have not seen.
What happens to the buffer if you do not need it
Unused wax is not lost. CSI 464 states a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage, so whatever is left after Diwali goes into Christmas orders for 25 December and the new year. That is why a buffer on wax is cheap insurance: the worst case is that you have bought January's wax early.

Assumptions: Fragrance load 8% of total candle weight, so wax is 92% of the fill (a 200 g candle = 184 g wax + 16 g oil). Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
