Buyer question · Coconut soy luxury
You want a coconut soy candle that fills a room, and you want to know which oils to buy. Nobody can honestly rank oils by hot throw in your wax without testing them; we have not published throw measurements, and a list that pretends otherwise is guessing. What we can give you is a shortlist with reasons, and a test that answers the question properly.
₹9,984.40
the complete hot-throw test order: 8 oils, 27 full-size jars, CSI 468 wax, wicks and tools · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils give the strongest hot throw in coconut soy? Nobody can tell you that honestly without testing in your wax and jar. We have not published throw measurements for any oil. The eight on this page are worth testing first, each for a stated reason. See the shortlist.

How should I test them? In the jar you will sell, at full size. Pour each oil at 6%, 8% and 10% in a 200 g candle: 12 g, 16 g and 20 g of oil, 48 g in all. One 50 g bottle per oil covers it. See the matrix.

What is the maximum fragrance load for CSI 468? No ceiling for CSI 468 is published in our data. Check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. 6–10% here is a labelled test range, not a specification.

What does the whole test cost? ₹9,984.40 including oils, 27 jars, 5.5 kg of CSI 468, wicks, a scale and a thermometer. The eight 50 g bottles alone are ₹3,091.00.
The short answer
Worth testing first: Dark Vanilla Oud · Santal Noir · White Royal Oud · Bergamot Amber · Neroli Signature Grade · Raat Ki Rani · Saffron Cedarwood · Coffee Vanilla Tobacco — chosen on structure and price tier, not on measured throw.
Test design: 8 oils × 6%/8%/10% in 200 g White Matte Glass Jars = 24 jars, plus 2 wick-check jars and 1 unscented control. Cure, then burn and score side by side.
Cost per luxury candle: CSI 468 base ₹196.30 per 200 g candle; oil adds ₹89.60 (Bergamot Amber) to ₹147.04 (Santal Noir) at 100 g rates and 8%.

Oil prices: CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026 · loads, jar size and cure are working assumptions
Each row is one oil, each column one load. Every cell is a full 200 g candle in the jar you intend to sell, because a small pot cannot tell you how a luxury candle throws in a room. The right-hand box is the oil arithmetic: 12 g + 16 g + 20 g = 48 g per oil, so one 50 g bottle covers a row with 2 g to spare.
Straight answer
I'm making coconut soy luxury candles. Which fragrance oils should I test for strong hot throw?
There is no honest shortcut: we have not published throw measurements for any oil, so no one can rank our oils by hot throw in your coconut soy. Hot throw depends on the load, a full melt pool from the right wick, cure time, the oil's formulation and the size of the room. What we can do is name oils worth testing first, each for a reason. Our shortlist is Dark Vanilla Oud, Santal Noir, White Royal Oud, Bergamot Amber, Neroli Signature Grade, Raat Ki Rani, Saffron Cedarwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco — layered, base-rich or white-floral profiles of the kind commonly chosen for luxury candles, spread across woods, gourmands, florals and fresh. Test them in Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 in the same 200 g jar you will sell, at 6%, 8% and 10%. That is 48 g of each oil, so one 50 g bottle per oil (₹3,091.00 for all eight). No fragrance ceiling for CSI 468 is published in our data, so treat 6–10% as a test range and ask us for the wax maker's stated maximum before you go higher. The full test order is ₹9,984.40.
One line: we can't tell you which oil throws hardest in your candle — a full-size, side-by-side test can, and it costs less than one bad production batch.
The test oils, priced today at 50 g: Dark Vanilla Oud ₹320.00 · Santal Noir ₹499.00 · White Royal Oud ₹420.00 · Bergamot Amber ₹280.00 · Neroli Signature Grade ₹399.00 · Raat Ki Rani ₹370.00 · Saffron Cedarwood ₹354.00 · Coffee Vanilla Tobacco ₹449.00. Total ₹3,091.00 — 48 g of each goes into the matrix. CSI does not sell these as a set; add each to the cart, or ask us to assemble the order.

What actually drives hot throw

Hot throw is not a property printed on a bottle. It is what happens when one oil meets one wax, one wick, one jar and one room.

Hot throw is the scent a candle releases while burning. Five things decide it, and the oil is only one of them. Load — how much oil the wax is holding, within what the wax can carry. The melt pool — a wick that melts wax right to the glass releases far more scent than one that tunnels; pool width is set by the wick, not the oil. Cure — soy and coconut soy candles are commonly left one to two weeks before judging, and a candle burned at day two is not the candle your customer lights. The oil's formulation — some profiles are built with more volatile top notes, others around heavier base notes that last. The room — a candle that fills a small bedroom can vanish in an open living room.

That is why this page does not rank oils. Any ranking we printed would be a guess dressed as data. It is also why the test on this page fixes the wax, the jar, the wick and the room, and changes only the oil and the load. Change one thing at a time and the result means something. Which Fragrance Oils Give Strong Hot Throw in Coconut Soy Wax? covers the hot-throw mechanics in coconut soy in more depth; this page is the buying and testing plan.

The common mistake: blaming the oil for a wick problem. A luxury maker pours a beautiful coconut soy candle, burns it for an hour, smells little, and switches oils. Often the wick never made a full pool, so most of the oil was locked in unmelted wax. Before the matrix, run the two-jar wick check below. Any oil looks weak on the wrong wick.

The shortlist, with reasons

Each oil is here for a stated reason: its structure, its family, or its place in a luxury price tier. None is here because of a measured throw result, because none exists. Every one has an in-stock 50 g for the test and an in-stock 100 g for production. The cost columns show what the oil means inside one 200 g CSI 468 candle at 8%, priced at the 100 g rate.

Eight oils worth testing first in coconut soy — and why
Oil Profile 50 g test bottle Oil per candle Material cost per candle Why it is on the list
Dark Vanilla Oud Gourmand-woody ₹320.00 ₹94.40 ₹290.70 Vanilla and oud are both base-heavy accords commonly chosen for evening and luxury candles; a good first test of how CSI 468 carries a rich, dense oil.
Santal Noir Dark woody ₹499.00 ₹147.04 ₹343.34 A premium sandalwood profile at the top of the price range; tests whether your price point can carry a ₹9-a-gram oil.
White Royal Oud Soft oud ₹420.00 ₹129.60 ₹325.90 A lighter oud alongside the darker one, so you learn whether your customers want depth or polish.
Bergamot Amber Citrus-amber ₹280.00 ₹89.60 ₹285.90 A bright top over a warm base — the classic structure for a candle that is noticeable on lighting and still there an hour later. Also the cheapest of the eight at 100 g.
Neroli Signature Grade Luxury floral-citrus ₹399.00 ₹127.84 ₹324.14 A fresh, clean luxury profile, useful as the daytime scent in an otherwise evening-heavy range.
Raat Ki Rani Indian white floral ₹370.00 ₹112.00 ₹308.30 White florals are commonly chosen for projection; this gives the range an Indian signature that a generic brand does not have.
Saffron Cedarwood Spiced wood ₹354.00 ₹111.39 ₹307.69 Saffron reads as luxury to an Indian buyer; the cedar base gives it structure.
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco Gourmand-tobacco ₹449.00 ₹143.84 ₹340.14 A layered gourmand, the kind of multi-note profile that separates a luxury candle from a single-note coffee or vanilla.

Material cost is oil, CSI 468 wax, an Eco Thin C1 wick and a White Matte Glass Jar, a base of ₹196.30 before oil, and excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. The spread is wide: from ₹285.90 with Bergamot Amber to ₹343.34 with Santal Noir. In a luxury candle that difference is affordable, but it still matters when one oil in the range costs ₹57.44 more per candle than another and your price is the same for all of them.

Two worth adding if your brand leans tropical
Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon (50 g ₹399.00, 100 g ₹799.00) and Lavender Cranberry Coconut (50 g ₹399.00, 100 g ₹799.00) lean into the coconut story many coconut soy brands tell. Add them as a ninth and tenth row if that fits your positioning. Each adds one 50 g bottle, three jars and about 550 g of wax to the order.

Three of the eight need a word on their price lines. Saffron Cedarwood lists its 500 g at ₹2,584.20, which is ₹5.17 a gram against ₹6.96 at 100 g and ₹6.87 at 1 kg. On the listed prices that makes the 500 g the cheapest way to buy it, and one of the few cases where a middle size beats the kilo. Santal Noir is the dearest per gram on the list at every size, from ₹11.07 at 15 g to ₹9.12 at 1 kg. Coffee Vanilla Tobacco starts at 50 g, so its test bottle is its smallest size.

The coconut soy wax itself

CSI lists three coconut waxes. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is the flake container wax and the one this plan uses, because it is the most affordable per kilo and is sold up to 10 kg. Premium Coconut Soy Wax and Coconut Wax are dearer and sold only up to 1 kg. None of the three has a fragrance-load ceiling in our data. The only two published ceilings in this series are Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) and CSI 464 (up to 10%). For coconut soy, ask for the wax maker's stated maximum before you set a production load.

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (for comparison) ₹599.00 ₹110.22 ₹186.92 Up to 13% (wax maker's stated maximum)

CSI 468 costs ₹9.38 more wax per candle than Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. That is the premium for a coconut soy label, and at luxury prices it is small. What you give up is a published load ceiling: with Chunks you know you can test up to 13%; with CSI 468 you ask first. The test in this plan tops out at 10% for that reason. If the wax maker's stated maximum turns out lower, drop the top column and test 6%, 7% and 8% instead.

The test matrix

Test a luxury candle at luxury size. A 50 g pot can tell you whether an oil smells right. It cannot tell you whether it fills a room.

Hot throw depends on the melt pool, and the melt pool depends on the jar's diameter. So the test uses the jar you will sell: a 200 g fill in the White Matte Glass Jar. Each oil is poured at three loads. At 200 g, 6% is 12 g of oil, 8% is 16 g and 10% is 20 g — 48 g per oil, which is why the 50 g bottle is the right test size here rather than the 15 g.

Wick check first — two jarsPour two jars of Bergamot Amber at 8% (16 g oil, 184 g wax each). Wick one with an Eco Thin C1 and one with an Eco Thick C2. Wick sizes for jar diameters are not published in our data, so this is how you find yours. Burn both after cure; keep the wick that reaches the glass without heavy soot or a tall flame. That is why Bergamot Amber is bought as 100 g, not 50 g.
2
Pour the 24 matrix jars the same daySame wax batch, same add temperature, same pour temperature, same wick. Weigh oil and wax for every jar. Label the base: oil, load, date.
3
Pour one unscented controlA plain CSI 468 jar with the same wick. It resets your nose between tests and tells you what the wax itself smells like when burning.
4
Cure, then smell coldCoconut soy is commonly cured one to two weeks. Smell each jar cold at day 7 and day 14 and record it. Cold throw is not hot throw, but a jar that smells of little cold rarely surprises you lit.
5
Burn in one room, two jars at a timeAlways the same room, door closed. Light two jars in opposite corners — ideally the same oil at two loads — and score at 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours, from the doorway and from the far side. Air the room fully before the next pair.
6
Score blind if you canHave someone else light the jars and hide the labels. Makers score their favourite oil higher. A blind score is the one to trust.
7
Read across, then downAcross a row tells you whether more oil helps that oil. Down a column tells you which oils are strongest at the same load. The oil you want is the one that scores well at 8% — not the one that only scores well at 10%.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. The easy advice would be "buy the premium oils and run them at 10%" — more oil, more sales for us. But if an oil at 8% scores within a point of itself at 10%, the extra 4 g per candle buys you nothing but cost: at Santal Noir's 100 g rate that is ₹36.76 per candle, and ₹18,380.00 on a 500-candle run. The matrix is designed to show you exactly where extra oil stops paying.

The scoring sheet

Use one sheet per jar. Score scent strength 0–5 (0 = nothing, 3 = clearly noticeable, 5 = fills the room). Record the melt pool and anything visual. The sheet below is the layout; print it or copy it into a spreadsheet.

One row per jar · 0–5 scale · same room, same distances
Hot-throw scoring sheet
Jar (oil · load) Cold day 14 30 min · door 30 min · far side 1 h · far side 2 h · far side Full pool by Soot / flame / notes Total
Dark Vanilla Oud · 8% _ _ _ _ _ _ h /25
Dark Vanilla Oud · 10% _ _ _ _ _ _ h /25
Bergamot Amber · 8% _ _ _ _ _ _ h /25
Unscented control — — — — — _ h baseline —

Two rules make the sheet useful. First, a jar that never reaches a full pool is not scored for throw; it is a wick failure, and you re-pour. Second, compare scores only within one session — humidity, room temperature and your own nose change day to day. That is why jars are burned in pairs.

The CSI principle
The winning oil is the one that performs at the lowest load.
A luxury candle's margin lives in the difference between 8% and 10%. An oil that scores well at 8% is cheaper in every candle you will ever make than one that needs 10% to match it — even if its bottle costs more.

The test order, priced

This is everything the test needs. Oil totals 416 g across nine bottles (384 g in the matrix and 32 g in the wick check). Wax totals 4,984 g across 27 jars; 5.5 kg of CSI 468 covers it with a working allowance for pour loss.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We have not measured hot throw for any oil in our catalogue, so this page does not rank oils by it. It names candidates with reasons and gives you a test that answers the question in your own wax, jar and room.

Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; wick prices from the 25 September 2026 pull; jar and tool prices are Blog 760's figures verified on 10 September 2026. Every oil on the shortlist has an in-stock 50 g and 100 g on the pull date. Per-candle and bill totals are arithmetic on those prices.

No fragrance-load ceiling for CSI 468, Premium Coconut Soy Wax or Coconut Wax is published in our data; 6–10% is a labelled test range. The 200 g jar, cure times and scoring scale are working assumptions. For the wax maker's stated maximum, MSDS and IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil has the best hot throw in coconut soy wax?
We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so we will not name one as best. The eight on this page are worth testing first for stated reasons. A full-size side-by-side test in your wax and jar is the only reliable answer.
How much fragrance oil can I add to coconut soy wax?
No ceiling for CSI 468 or CSI's other coconut waxes is published in our data. Check the product page or ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. Use 6–10% only as a test range until you have that figure.
Why does my coconut soy candle have weak hot throw?
The usual causes are a wick that does not reach a full melt pool, burning before the candle has cured, a load below what the oil needs, or a room too large for one candle. Check the pool first; any oil smells weak on the wrong wick.
How long should coconut soy candles cure before testing?
Commonly one to two weeks. Smell them cold at day 7 and day 14, and burn-test after the cold scent stops changing. Always compare candles of the same age.
How much fragrance oil do I need to test hot throw properly?

Non-price figures and assumptions: Per-candle figures assume a 200 g candle at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax), one Eco Thin C1 wick and one White Matte Glass Jar, and exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. The 6/8/10% loads are a test range, not a specification: no fragrance ceiling for CSI 468 or CSI's other coconut waxes is published in our data. The only published ceilings in this series are Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) and CSI 464 (up to 10%), the wax makers' stated formulation maximums. No hot-throw or cold-throw measurements exist for any oil; shortlist reasons are based on profile structure, family and price tier. Cure times are general practice. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
