Buy 1 kg of two waxes first, then 5 kg of the winner. 10 kg on day one makes sense only if you already have orders or a tested formula.
The first three purchases
| When | Buy | Cost (CSI 464 / Eco 400) | Makes (200 g) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 2 × 1 kg (two waxes) | ₹906.40 | 10 test candles, side by side |
| Week 3 | 5 kg of the winner | ₹2,537.00 | 27 candles for first sales |
| When orders are steady | 10 kg | ₹5,074.00 | 54 candles — about a month's stock at 50/month |
Your first wax order, written for someone who has not sold a candle yet
You are about to spend money before you have a single customer. That makes your first wax purchase less about price and more about information. The aim of the first order is to find out which wax suits your jar, your oil and your hands. Everything else can wait.
The decision in front of you
Pick two waxes that differ in a way you care about. CSI 464 against Eco Soy CSI 400 compares an everyday flake with the lowest-cost chunk. CSI 464 against CSI 468 compares 100% soy with a coconut-soy blend that states a higher load. One kilogram of each is ₹507.40 and ₹399.00, or ₹507.40 and ₹650.00. If you want to spend less, CSI 464 and CSI 468 also come in 500 g bags at ₹260.00 and ₹325.00, enough for two 200 g candles or five 100 g ones.
The trap you are most likely to fall into
It is buying 10 kg on day one because bigger feels cheaper. On CSI 464 and Soy Pillar Wax the price per kilogram is the same at every size, and on Eco Soy CSI 400 the 5 kg bag is a rupee dearer than five 1 kg bags. So a 10 kg bag of an untested wax saves you nothing and leaves you with 54 candles' worth of a wax you might not keep. The only waxes that get cheaper with size are Pearl and CSI 468, and both start their lower price at 5 kg, not 10.
How to run the first test
Keep everything the same except the wax: one oil, one wick, one jar, one load. Label the base of each candle so you do not mix them up. Let them cure for the same time, then burn them side by side and note the top, how they hold to the glass, and how strongly they scent the room. Write it down on the day. Memory is kind to whichever candle you liked the look of.
When 10 kg is right from the start
If you have already tested a formula elsewhere, or you have a confirmed order of around 50 candles of 200 g, a 10 kg bag at ₹5,074.00 is sensible. Otherwise, it is not.

"Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits.
