In soy wax, the bright top of a hotel-style fragrance fades first and the woods carry the candle. Here is how each family behaves, which ceiling governs in which CSI soy wax, and a 6/8/10% test that finds the right load.
10%
the governing ceiling for every hotel-style oil here in CSI 464, CSI 468 or Soy Wax Chunks (9% for the Mahogany Teakwood listing) · page wording, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do hotel-style fragrance oils behave in soy wax? Unevenly, by family. The bright citrus tops — verbena, neroli, bergamot — are the first thing a soy candle spends, and can feel quieter after a cure. The woods, musks and ambers underneath are what carry through the cure and the burn. So in soy, a hotel-style candle stands or falls on its base.

What is the maximum fragrance load in CSI soy wax? Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464: up to 10%. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: up to 13%. But the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page's stated maximum governs, and every hotel-style oil we recommend here tops out at 10% or lower — the Mahogany Teakwood listing at 9%.

What load should I test? 6%, 8% and 10% of total candle weight (9 g, 12 g and 15 g in a 150 g candle), inside the governing ceiling. For an oil whose page says 7–9%, test 7%, 8% and 9%. Keep the lowest load that passes.

How long should soy candles cure? Only one hotel-style oil page states a cure — Bergamot Amber, 48–72 hours. For the rest, at least 48–72 hours, longer for soy is common practice: test at day 3 and day 7.
The short answer
Families in soy: citrus tops flash and fade first; herbal hearts hold moderately; woods, musks and ambers carry. Build every soy hotel candle on a stated base.
Ceilings: CSI 464 10%; CSI 468 and Soy Wax Chunks 13%; oil pages mostly 10%. The lower number wins.
Test plan: five oils × 6/8/10% in CSI 464, plus one 8% candle each in CSI 468: 20 candles, ₹5,668.80 in materials.
Cure: same length for every candle; compare at day 3 and day 7, never across different cure ages.
Two ceilings: the oil page and the soy wax Top of each oil page's stated candle load, against CSI soy wax ceilings. The lower of the two governs. 0% 2% 4% 6% 8% 10% 12% 14% 10% Verbena 10% Neroli 10% Sage and Cedarwood 10% Sandalwood 10% Bergamot Amber 9% Mahogany Teakwood * not stated Santal Noir CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: up to 13% CSI 464: up to 10% oil page maximum 6–10% test band no candle load on page: the wax ceiling governs Mahogany Teakwood page: 7–9% in soy, so 9% governs even in the 13% waxes. * Shortened CSI listing name; the full listing name and brand note are on pick card 5. Ceilings are formulation limits, not targets and not regulatory limits. Page wording verified 24 September 2026.
The top of each oil page's stated candle load (black) against CSI's soy wax ceilings. In CSI 464 the wax and the oil both stop at 10%; in CSI 468 or Soy Wax Chunks the oil page, not the wax, sets the limit. Santal Noir's page states no candle load, so only the wax ceiling applies.
Straight answer
I make soy candles and want a premium hotel-style range. Which CSI oils work in soy, at what load, and in which wax?
Choose oils whose base will carry in soy, and let the bright top be the accent rather than the whole candle. From CSI's hotel-style oils, Sage and Cedarwood and Sandalwood are the carrying woods (both pages state "up to 10%" for soy); Verbena and Neroli give the bright opening (both state up to 10% for soy); and CSI's Mahogany Teakwood listing is the aromatic-woody option, with a page range of 7–9% in soy. Pour them in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, whose stated 10% ceiling matches the oils, or Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (up to 13%), where the oil page's 10% still governs. Test every oil at 6%, 8% and 10% (Mahogany Teakwood at 7%, 8% and 9%), cure every candle for the same time — at least 48–72 hours — and compare at day 3 and day 7. Keep the lowest load that passes. The whole test, five oils in two waxes, is 20 candles and ₹5,668.80 in materials.
One line: in soy, the citrus is the handshake and the wood is the conversation — test the base first, and the load last.
The carrying wood for a soy hotel candle. Sage and Cedarwood 50 g is ₹354.00: enough for 6%, 8% and 10% test candles plus one in a second wax. Its page states "Up to 10% for soy wax".
Buy Sage and Cedarwood 50 g — ₹354.00

How each hotel-style family behaves in soy

Soy is honest wax. It shows you exactly which part of a fragrance was holding the candle up.

The hotel style — bright top, clean heart, warm base — is set out in Buy Hotel-Inspired Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India. In soy, those three parts do not behave alike. What follows is general candle-making experience, not CSI lab data: we have no throw measurements for these oils, and your wax, jar and wick will move the result. Treat it as the hypothesis your test candles will confirm or overturn.

Hotel-style families in soy · what to expect and what to test
Judgement from general candle-making practice; confirm with your own burns
Family Role in the style Typical behaviour in soy What to watch CSI examples
Citrus and citrus-floral Bright top The most volatile notes: strong in the bottle and at the first lighting, the first to soften during cure and burn Judge at day 7 as well as day 3; a citrus that is lovely at day 3 may be faint by day 7 Verbena, Neroli, Lemongrass and Lime
Green and tea Bright top, clean heart Fresh notes that can read thin in soy on their own Whether the "clean" survives the burn or leaves only the base Cucumber Green Tea
Herbal-woody Clean heart, warm base Tends to hold well; the herbal note keeps the wood from reading heavy Harshness at the top of the load range Sage and Cedarwood
Creamy wood (single note) Warm base Carries steadily; quiet at first lighting, present after an hour Whether it reads "hotel" or just "sandalwood" without a bright partner Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
Aromatic woods with musk Heart and base Usually the strongest performers in soy of the hotel families Overpowering a small room; stay within the page range Mahogany Teakwood listing, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
Citrus over amber All three roles The top flashes, the amber and musk carry the candle Vanilla in the base drifting sweet at higher loads Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil

What that means for a soy range

Three practical rules follow. First, never let a soy hotel candle depend on its top alone: pair Verbena or Neroli with a wood in the range, or choose an oil whose page names a base. Second, judge citrus oils later than you think — at day 7, not day 3 — because the first days of cure flatter them. Third, when an oil underperforms in soy, try a different wax or wick before you try more oil; how far load, wick and melt pool can be pushed for throw is covered in Strong Hotel-Inspired Fragrance Oils for Candle Making.

Mistake: raising a citrus oil from 8% to 10% in soy because the candle "fades". Fix: first check the base. If the candle has nothing under the citrus, more citrus flashes brighter and fades just as fast, at ₹19.82 more oil per candle for Verbena. Add a wood to the range, or blend-test a small amount of a woody oil, and keep the load where the page and wax allow.

Two ceilings: the wax and the oil page

Every soy candle has two published limits on fragrance load: the wax maker's stated maximum, and the oil page's stated candle maximum. The lower of the two governs. Both are formulation limits, not targets and not regulatory limits, and neither tells you the best-performing load, which is almost always lower.

Governing ceiling by oil and wax · page wording, 24 September 2026
The lower of the wax and oil figures applies
Oil (page wording) CSI 464 (up to 10%) CSI 468 (up to 13%) Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) Test at
Verbena: "Up to 10% for soy wax" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6, 8, 10%
Neroli: "Up to 10% for soy wax" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6, 8, 10%
Sage and Cedarwood: "Up to 10% for soy wax" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6, 8, 10%
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil: "up to 10% for soy" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6, 8, 10%
Bergamot Amber: "6-10% for soy wax candles" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6, 8, 10%
Cucumber Green Tea: "8-10% fragrance oil per pound of wax" 10% 10% (oil) 10% (oil) 6 (control), 8, 10%
Mahogany Teakwood listing: "at 7-9%" in soy 9% (oil) 9% (oil) 9% (oil) 7, 8, 9%
Santal Noir: no candle load stated 10% (wax) 13% (wax) 13% (wax) 6, 8, 10%

Three details. Cucumber Green Tea's page wording — "per pound of wax" — is loose; we apply it as a percentage of total candle weight like every other figure here, and keep 6% as a control. The Mahogany Teakwood listing's "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%" is the page's claim, not our measurement; its range sits below every CSI soy ceiling, so the page governs. Santal Noir states only a perfume rate ("Best worn as EDP (20–25%)"), which is not a candle load, so the wax ceiling is the only published limit — and we would still test it at 6%, 8% and 10%.

Load is a percentage of the finished candle
For a 150 g candle: 6% = 9 g oil + 141 g wax; 8% = 12 g + 138 g; 10% = 15 g + 135 g. Weigh both on a scale reading to 1 g. For a 7%/9% test: 10.5 g + 139.5 g and 13.5 g + 136.5 g.

Five hotel-style oils for soy candles

Two bright tops, two carrying woods, one strong aromatic — a complete soy test in five bottles.

Chosen for how their stated structure should behave in soy and for a stated soy load on every page. The oil-cost figures are per 150 g candle at the 50 g price, the size you will test with. All sizes of all five are in stock on 24 September 2026. The first-buy shortlist for the hotel style in general is in Buy Hotel-Inspired Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India; these cards are about soy.

1
citrus herbal · bright top · judge at day 7
Verbena Fragrance Oil
The brightest, most lemony of the hotel-style tops. The page describes "Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones" and states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". In soy, expect it to be at its brightest early; the "herbal undertones" are what may hold on. Oil per candle at 6%, 8% and 10%: ₹59.47, ₹79.30 and ₹99.12. Limitation: no base is named on the page, so in soy it works best as the top of a two-scent pair or beside a wood in a range.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹106.20 ₹7.08 1
50 g ₹330.40 ₹6.61 4
100 g ₹590.00 ₹5.90 8
500 g ₹2,478.00 ₹4.96 41
1 kg ₹4,720.00 ₹4.72 83
At the 1 kg price the 8% candle's oil falls to ₹56.64. Buy Verbena
2
citrus floral · bright top · softer than verbena
Neroli Fragrance Oil
A rounder bright note than verbena: "Bright neroli with hints of orange blossom, honey, and soft green undertones". The page states "Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". The honey and orange blossom give it more body in soy than a plain citrus, in our judgement, but it still has no stated wood or musk. Oil per candle at 6/8/10%: ₹61.60, ₹82.13, ₹102.66. Limitation: compare day-3 and day-7 candles carefully; if the day-7 candle is faint at the doorway, pair it rather than push the load.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹118.00 ₹7.87 1
50 g ₹342.20 ₹6.84 4
100 g ₹665.52 ₹6.66 8
500 g ₹3,327.60 ₹6.66 41
1 kg ₹6,655.20 ₹6.66 83
From 100 g it is ₹6.66/g, the same to 1 kg. Buy Neroli
3
herbal woody · heart and base · the carrier
Sage and Cedarwood Fragrance Oil
The oil most likely to carry a soy hotel candle on its own. The page describes "Herbaceous sage with warm, woody cedar undertones" and states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". The herbal heart keeps the cedar clean rather than heavy. Oil per candle at 6/8/10%: ₹63.72, ₹84.96, ₹106.20. Limitation: no 15 g is listed, so 50 g is the smallest test; and at bulk, the 1 kg is dearer per gram than the 500 g (see Hotel-Inspired Candle Fragrance Oils Wholesale in India).
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50 g ₹354.00 ₹7.08 4
100 g ₹696.20 ₹6.96 8
500 g ₹2,584.20 ₹5.17 41
1 kg ₹6,867.60 ₹6.87 83
50 g covers 9 + 12 + 15 g test candles and a 12 g candle in a second wax. Buy Sage and Cedarwood
4
creamy wood · base only · steady in soy
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
A single-note wood: "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone". The page states "Recommended load up to 10% for soy, up to 6% for paraffin". With no top notes to flash off, it tends to be quiet at first lighting and steady through the burn. Oil per candle at 6/8/10%: ₹48.85, ₹65.14, ₹81.42 — the least expensive of the five. Limitation: alone it reads "sandalwood", not "hotel"; pour it beside Verbena or Neroli in the range.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 g ₹271.40 ₹5.43 4
100 g ₹502.68 ₹5.03 8
500 g ₹2,513.40 ₹5.03 41
1 kg ₹5,026.80 ₹5.03 83
Flat ₹5.03/g from 100 g to 1 kg. Buy Sandalwood
5
aromatic woody · heart and base · the strong one
Mahogany Teakwood Bath and Body Works Inspired Fragrance Oil
The name above is CSI's product listing name; the oil is CSI's interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the brand, and the brand name must stay off your label. The page describes "fresh lavender and crisp bergamot. Heart of mahogany wood and geranium. Base of teakwood, cedarwood, and musk" and says "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%" (the page's claim). Test it at 7%, 8% and 9%: ₹92.40, ₹105.60 and ₹118.80 of oil per candle. Limitation, argued against our own interest: at ₹8.80 per gram at every size it is 33% dearer than Verbena at 50 g, and no 15 g is listed.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50 g ₹440.00 ₹8.80 4
100 g ₹880.00 ₹8.80 8
500 g ₹4,400.00 ₹8.80 41
1 kg ₹8,800.00 ₹8.80 83
Flat ₹8.80/g: bigger sizes save nothing per gram. Buy Mahogany Teakwood

The 6/8/10% soy test plan

This plan tests five oils at three loads in one soy wax, and each oil once more in a second soy wax, so that you learn two things at once: the lowest load each oil needs, and whether your wax is helping or hurting. Twenty candles; each oil uses 48 g of its 50 g bottle (Mahogany Teakwood: 10.5 + 12 + 13.5 + 12 = 48 g).

1
Fix everything except the variableSame jar, same wick, same pour temperature and same room for every candle. The only things that change are oil, load and (for five candles) wax.
2
Weigh by total weightFor each oil in CSI 464: 9 g + 141 g, 12 g + 138 g, 15 g + 135 g. Mahogany Teakwood: 10.5 g + 139.5 g, 12 g + 138 g, 13.5 g + 136.5 g. Then one 12 g + 138 g candle per oil in CSI 468.
3
Follow each wax page for temperaturesCSI 464's page states melt and pour at 80–90°C; CSI 468's states a pour of 58–60°C. Use the wax page's figures and keep them identical within each wax.
4
Label the base, then cure all 20 togetherOil, load, wax, date. Cure every candle for the same time: at least 48–72 hours; Bergamot Amber's page states 48–72 hours, the five oils here state no cure. Plan to test at day 3 and again at day 7.
5
Check the melt pool before judging scentBurn the 8% candle of each oil for two to three hours. If the melt pool has not reached the glass edge, the wick is too small for this jar and oil, and the scent result is not fair; retest with Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2), ₹94.40 for 10. Jar diameters are not listed in our data, so we will not name a definitive wick; see the Candle Wicks collection.
6
Score cold, then hot, at the doorwayCold: lid off, blind. Hot: one candle per session, same room, door closed, sniffed from the doorway at 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours, and again after blow-out. Score 1–5 each time.
7
Pick the lowest passing load, then the waxFor each oil, keep the lowest load that scores well at the doorway at day 7. Then compare its CSI 464 and CSI 468 candles at 8%. If CSI 468 wins by a clear margin, retest that oil's chosen load in CSI 468 before switching production.
Mistake: comparing a day-3 CSI 468 candle with a day-7 CSI 464 candle. Fix: pour both waxes the same day and compare them at the same cure age. A candle a few days older can seem stronger for reasons that have nothing to do with the wax.

Cure, and how to read the results

Soy rewards patience and punishes impatience. Most failed soy tests were judged too early.

Of the hotel-style oils, only Bergamot Amber's page states a cure: "6-10% for soy wax candles, cure 48-72 hours". None of the five picks above states one. Our guidance — judgement, not a CSI specification — is at least 48–72 hours, and longer for soy is common practice; test at day 3 and day 7 and record both. For the citrus oils especially, the day-7 result is the one to trust.

Reading your soy test · what the pattern usually means
Judgement; confirm with a retest before you change production
What you see Likely cause What to try next
Strong cold, weak hot, at every load Wick too small or melt pool not reaching the edge Bigger wick (C2) before more oil
Citrus bright at day 3, faint at day 7 Volatile top notes spent during cure Pair with a wood in the range; do not simply raise the load
10% candle harsh, soots or smokes Too much oil for this wick and jar Drop to 8%; check the wick is trimmed
Oil beading on the surface or seeping Load too high for the wax to hold Lower the load; stay within the governing ceiling
8% and 10% smell the same at the doorway The extra oil is not adding throw Keep 8%: the extra 3 g per candle is wasted
CSI 468 clearly stronger than CSI 464 at 8% Wax suits this oil better Retest the chosen load in CSI 468 before switching

The fifth row is where money is saved. For Sage and Cedarwood at the 50 g price, 10% instead of 8% costs ₹21.24 more oil per candle, and for the Mahogany Teakwood listing, 9% instead of 8% costs ₹13.20 more. If you cannot smell the difference, do not pay for it.

CSI 464, CSI 468 or Soy Wax Chunks?

All three are container soy waxes in CSI's catalogue with a stated load ceiling. Here is what their pages state and what they cost per candle.

Container soy waxes · page wording and price, 24 September 2026
Wax cost for one 150 g candle at 8% (138 g of wax)
Wax Stated ceiling Page handling note Price Per gram Wax per candle
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 Up to 10% Melt/pour 80–90°C ₹507.40 / 1 kg; ₹5,074.00 / 10 kg ₹0.51 (flat 1–10 kg) ₹70.02
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 Up to 13% Pour 58–60°C ₹650.00 / 1 kg; ₹6,370.00 / 10 kg ₹0.65 (1 kg); ₹0.64 (10 kg) ₹87.91
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks Up to 13% Not stated in our data ₹599.00 / 1 kg; ₹5,999.00 / 10 kg ₹0.60 (10 kg) ₹82.79

For the oils on this page, the extra 3% of headroom in CSI 468 and the Chunks cannot be used: every oil page stops at 10% or lower. So choose between them on how your candles look and burn, not on the ceiling. CSI 468 costs ₹17.88 more per candle than CSI 464 at the 10 kg price. Other soy waxes in the wax collection, such as Natural Soy Pearl Wax and Eco Soy CSI 400, do not state a load ceiling on their pages in our data; if you use them, test conservatively and ask us on WhatsApp. The luxury-pricing view of wax choice is in Hotel Fragrance Oils for Luxury Candles.

Buy wax to your production, not to a discount
CSI 464 is priced flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg (₹507.40 per kg; ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg). There is no saving from the 10 kg bag, only fewer orders. The 500 g bag (₹260.00) is slightly dearer per gram. Buy the size you will pour.

Indian heat, monsoon and your soy candles

Soy is a softer wax than paraffin, and Indian weather is not gentle. The Indian summer runs roughly April to June and the southwest monsoon roughly June to September; winter, roughly December to February, is colder in the North and milder in the South. These are calendar facts; what follows is judgement.

In summer heat, store cured soy candles and oil bottles somewhere cool and out of sun, and cure test candles in the same conditions you will cure production candles — a test cured in an air-conditioned room will not predict a batch cured in a hot workshop. In the monsoon, keep lids on cured candles and bottles tightly closed. Seasonally, the bright hotel tops (Verbena, Neroli) suit summer ranges; the carrying woods (Sage and Cedarwood, Sandalwood, the Mahogany Teakwood listing) suit Diwali and winter. Planning inventory across seasons is covered in I Want to Launch Different Candle Collections for Summer, Monsoon and Winter — How Should I Plan My Fragrance Oil Inventory?.

Diwali is 8 November 2026. A soy test started this week, with a seven-day cure, gives you results by mid-October — time for one production pour of a woody hotel candle before the festival. Ask on WhatsApp for stock and dispatch on the test set and 500 g of your winner.

The CSI principle
In soy, the lowest load that passes is the right load.
The ceiling tells you where to stop, not where to aim. Test 6%, 8% and 10% inside the lower of the two ceilings, cure them equally, and let the day-7 doorway decide.
"A soy hotel candle is built from the base up. Choose the wood that carries, then add the brightness."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils and soy waxes named here, and does not sell finished candles. We tell you that the 13% headroom in two of our waxes cannot be used by these oils, that the 10 kg bag of CSI 464 saves nothing per gram, and that the best load is usually below the maximum — all of which sell less.

Every price and page quotation was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026; all sizes of the five picks were in stock on that date. Candle loads, wax ceilings and handling notes are quoted from product pages; where a page does not state a figure, we say so.

How each family behaves in soy, the cure guidance for oils that state none, and the test method are our judgement; CSI has no throw measurements for these oils. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Usually below the maximum. Test 6%, 8% and 10% of total candle weight inside the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page's stated maximum, and keep the lowest load that passes at the doorway after a full cure.
How much fragrance oil can soy wax hold?
CSI's Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state up to 13%. The oil page's own maximum applies if it is lower, as it is for every hotel-style oil on this page.
Why does my citrus soy candle lose its scent?
Citrus top notes are the most volatile part of a fragrance and are spent first, during cure and burn. Judge citrus candles at day 7 as well as day 3, pair them with a wood in your range, and check the wick before adding more oil.
How long should I cure soy candles before testing?
Only Bergamot Amber's page among the hotel-style oils states a cure (48–72 hours). For the others, at least 48–72 hours, longer for soy is common practice; test at day 3 and day 7 and compare candles of the same age.
Which soy wax is best for hotel-style candles, CSI 464 or CSI 468?
Both work with these oils, whose pages stop at 10%. CSI 464 states up to 10% and costs ₹70.02 per 150 g candle at 8%; CSI 468 states up to 13% and costs ₹87.91. Test one 8% candle of each oil in both before deciding.
Do woody fragrance oils work better in soy than citrus?
In general candle-making experience, woods, musks and ambers carry more steadily in soy than bright citrus tops, which fade first. CSI has no throw measurements, so confirm with your own 6/8/10% test.

Wax ceilings (CSI 464 up to 10%, CSI 468 and Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%) and handling notes (CSI 464 melt/pour 80–90°C, CSI 468 pour 58–60°C) are page wording; ceilings are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Oil loads and notes are quoted from each oil page. Family behaviour in soy, cure guidance for oils that state none, and the result-reading table are editorial judgement.
