Fragrance Oil Supplier for Candle Businesses in Kolkata: what should you know?
A Kolkata candle business needs GST invoices, IFRA certificates and MSDS from its supplier, a short core range held at depth, and a costing for every order. CSI provides the documents on request. For the example order — 350 × 180 g glass jar — the core materials come to ₹76,632 before vessel, packaging, labour, freight and GST.
One line: documents, consistency and a costed quote are what separate a candle business from a candle hobby.
Core oil for a Kolkata range: Gilli Mitti (Patchouli), ₹8,960.00 per kg.

The paperwork a Kolkata candle business needs from its oil supplier

A business buyer needs three things a hobbyist does not: documents, consistency and a cost that holds for a whole order.
Documents
What to collect and keep
Document Why How
GST invoice Input tax credit; clean books On request at order
IFRA certificate Shows the oil's safe use level; corporate buyers ask On WhatsApp request, per oil
MSDS / SDS Handling and storage data; some venues and insurers ask On WhatsApp request, per oil
Batch record (yours) Lets you trace a complaint to a batch Your own log: oil, bottle date, load, wax, wick
Price record (yours) Keeps your quote honest when oil prices change Save the product page price on the day you buy

Kolkata orders are billed to West Bengal, so the invoice carries IGST. (CSI invoices from Maharashtra, so an interstate delivery carries IGST rather than CGST plus SGST.) Share your GSTIN when you order so the invoice matches your registration.

Designing a core range you can supply every month

A candle business in Kolkata — where demand leans towards Puja gifting, Kali Puja and Diwali lamps, Christmas retail, weddings and a strong handmade-craft scene — is better served by five or six core oils held at depth than by twenty held thinly. Our suggested core for Kolkata: Gilli Mitti (Patchouli), Jasmine, Sandalwood, Cinnamon Vanilla, British Rose, Vanilla Bean.

1
Core (always in stock)Two or three best-sellers held by the kilogram.
2
SeasonalTwo or three oils brought in for the calendar — Durga Puja (Ashtami on 18 October), Kali Puja on the night of Diwali, and Christmas on Park Street give Kolkata three separate buying peaks.
3
ExperimentalOne or two oils at 50–100 g, tested before they earn a place in the core.
4
Review quarterlyDrop what does not sell; promote what does.

Costing an order before you quote it

Example: a Salt Lake studio preparing a Puja-to-Christmas range, 350 × 180 g glass jar. At 8% each candle needs 14.4 g of oil and 166 g of wax.

Worked costing (example)
350 candles, core materials only
Line Per candle × 350
Fragrance oil (Gilli Mitti (Patchouli), 1 kg price) ₹129.02 ₹45,158
Wax (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes)) ₹84.03 ₹29,409
Wick (Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1)) ₹5.90 ₹2,065
Core materials ₹218.95 ₹76,632

That excludes the vessel, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST, which usually add more than the materials above. Quote from the full unit cost. How to price candles in India in 2026 covers the rest.

Consistency is the business requirement. Keep one batch of oil for one order where you can — buy the whole order's oil at once — and log the bottle date on every batch. If a customer ever reports a difference, your log tells you whether it was the oil, the load or the wick.

A Kolkata business, worked through

Handmade-craft seller for fairs and exhibitions. Craft fairs reward small, affordable candles and a range of four or five scents at 100 g depth.

Say that buyer pours 300 candles of 120 g. At 8% each candle takes 9.6 g of oil, so the run needs 2.88 kg — about 2.9 kg in total, split across however many scents the run carries. If it were all Jasmine, the oil would cost about ₹11,298 at the 1 kg price.

Example buyer · Kolkata
Handmade-craft seller for fairs and exhibitions: three oils, costed
Oil 1 kg Oil per 120 g candle Candles per kg Oil for 300 (single scent)
Jasmine ₹3,923.00 ₹37.66 104 ₹11,298.24
British Rose ₹3,068.00 ₹29.45 104 ₹8,835.84
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) ₹8,960.00 ₹86.02 104 ₹25,804.80

A second Kolkata buyer: puja-to-christmas studio (salt lake, new town). Earthy and sandal profiles for Puja, spiced gourmands for Christmas. Plan two production runs, not one. For 350 candles of 180 g at 8%, the oil comes to 5.04 kg — with Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) at ₹8,960.00 per kg, about ₹45,158.

What Kolkata changes about running a candle business

Kolkata is humid subtropical, with a hot, sticky summer, a strong June–September monsoon and a short, mild winter. Humidity is the storage problem here: sealed wick and packaging stock matter as much as the oil. Oil itself keeps well sealed, cool and away from light.

Kolkata through the year
Three seasons, three different jobs for a Kolkata maker
Months Conditions What to do
March–June Hot and very humid Keep a point of headroom in your load; store candles cool.
June–September Strong monsoon Seal packaging stock; buy and test Puja oil early.
October–February Puja, Kali Puja, Christmas and a short mild winter Three separate buying peaks; easy pouring conditions.

Kolkata's calendar splits into Puja in October, Kali Puja with Diwali in November, and Christmas in December. Few cities give a maker three distinct seasons in ten weeks.

Durga Puja is the moment Kolkata buys gifts, décor and new things for the home. A Puja range needs to be on shelves before Ashtami, which means testing in August–September.

Christmas in Kolkata, centred on Park Street, is a third selling window. Warm gourmands such as cinnamon vanilla and vanilla bean suit it better than Puja florals.

Warm, humid months push a maxed-out candle towards sweating; the short winter is kind to soy. Durga Puja (Ashtami on 18 October), Kali Puja on the night of Diwali, and Christmas on Park Street give Kolkata three separate buying peaks.

Dussehra 20 October 2026 Now — already tight Now — already tight

The two columns on the right of the calendar are working back from the festival: six weeks to test a new oil in your wax and jar, and four weeks to have production quantities on the shelf. They are planning margins, not delivery promises — transit time to Kolkata is confirmed on WhatsApp when you order.

Argue against interest
A short range sells more than a long one.
Twenty thinly stocked scents look impressive and sell unevenly. Five at depth are easier to keep in stock, price and reorder.
Documents, consistency and a costed quote.

We publish every pack price, so the per-gram and per-candle figures here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger pack is not cheaper.

Every price here is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing takes precedence. Items out of stock on that pull are marked rather than offered.

Assumptions: Candle maths use an illustrative 8% fragrance load by weight (16 g of oil and 184 g of wax in a 200 g candle), which is within the stated range of every oil on this page that publishes one; "per candle" material costs include oil, wax and wick only and exclude the vessel, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Worked examples (e.g. "a Salt Lake studio preparing a Puja-to-Christmas range") are illustrations, not customers. Per-gram comparisons use listed prices only.

Calendar: Navratri begins 11 October 2026; Durga Ashtami 18 October 2026; Dussehra 20 October 2026; Diwali 8 November 2026; Christmas 25 December 2026. Climate descriptions are general seasonal patterns for Kolkata, not forecasts. Delivery times are not quoted on this page; they are confirmed on WhatsApp at order.
