Buy Fragrance Oils for Jar Candle Making in India

What size should I buy first? The 15 g tester. At 8%, one 15 g bottle scents one 180 g Salsa jar (14.4 g of oil) with 0.6 g to spare. Move to 50 g and 100 g only once a scent has passed its burn test.
How much oil do I need for 30 jar candles? For 30 Salsa jars at an illustrative 180 g fill and 8%: 432 g of oil in total, or 144 g per scent across three scents. A 50 g plus a 100 g of each covers it with 6 g spare per scent.
Is it cheaper to buy the 50-pack of jars? Per jar, yes: ₹29.50 against ₹40.12. But the 50-pack only costs less in total once you need 36 or more jars. For a 30-jar pilot, six 5-packs (₹1,203.60) are cheaper than one 50-pack (₹1,475.00).
Which pack size for which stage
CSI lists oils in up to five sizes. Rather than treating them as small, medium and large, map each to a stage of your business. The table does that for three oils that suit a first jar range — a fruity, a floral and a gourmand — and shows how many 180 g Salsa jars each pack pours at 8% (14.4 g of oil per jar). The 180 g fill is illustrative; weigh your own jar.
| Pack | Use it for | Fresh Strawberries | Jasmine | Roasted Coffee | Salsa jars poured |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | Test: one Salsa jar per tester | ₹113.28 · ₹7.55/g | ₹103.00 · ₹6.87/g | ₹93.22 · ₹6.21/g | 1.04 |
| 50 g | Pilot top-up / small batch | ₹212.40 · ₹4.25/g | ₹230.00 · ₹4.60/g | ₹230.00 · ₹4.60/g | 3.47 |
| 100 g | First production size | ₹377.60 · ₹3.78/g | ₹430.00 · ₹4.30/g | ₹390.00 · ₹3.90/g | 6.94 |
| 500 g | Proven seller, monthly volume | ₹1,770.00 · ₹3.54/g | ₹1,961.00 · ₹3.92/g | ₹1,890.00 · ₹3.78/g | 34.72 |
| 1 kg | Proven seller, stock security | ₹3,540.00 · ₹3.54/g | ₹3,923.00 · ₹3.92/g | ₹3,738.00 · ₹3.74/g | 69.44 |
Look down any oil's column and the pattern is the one that runs through the whole catalogue: the 15 g carries a premium and the steps above 100 g are small. Fresh Strawberries falls from ₹7.55 a gram at 15 g to ₹3.78 at 100 g, a 50.0% drop, and then to ₹3.54 at 1 kg. Across the 55 oils that list both 15 g and 100 g, the median 15 g premium is 23.1%. Across the 91 that list 100 g and 1 kg, 52 are within 1% per gram. So the tester is for learning, the 100 g is where production starts, and the kilo is for scents you already know will sell.
Order one: the test order
The test order has one job: to show you how each scent smells in your jar, in your wax, from your wick, before you spend real money. Keep it small and complete. A tester oil without the jar and wax you will actually sell in tells you very little.
| Item | Pack | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh Strawberries | 15 g | ₹113.28 | One Salsa jar at 8% |
| Jasmine | 15 g | ₹103.00 | One Salsa jar at 8% |
| Roasted Coffee | 15 g | ₹93.22 | One Salsa jar at 8% |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 500 g | ₹299.00 | Three jars use 496.8 g; the rest covers a re-pour |
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar | 5 | ₹200.60 | Three test jars and two spares |
| Eco Candle Wicks, Thin C1 | 10 | ₹59.00 | Room to change wick and re-test |
| Wick Centering Device | 5 | ₹118.00 | Reusable |
| Total | ₹986.10 | Before freight and GST |
The two spare jars matter more than they look. The first pour almost always teaches you something about the wick or the pour temperature, and a spare jar lets you re-pour without a second order. The 10 wicks do the same job. If the first wick tunnels or soots in the Salsa jar, you change it and pour again. CSI does not publish wick sizes by jar diameter, so the burn test is the only way to set it. If you have no scale or thermometer yet, add a weighing scale (₹354.00) and a pen thermometer (₹354.00), which takes the order to ₹1,694.10.
Order two: a 30-jar pilot
Say all three scents passed. A pilot of 30 jars, 10 per scent, is enough to put on a market table, give to a few stockists or sell online for a month. At an illustrative 180 g fill and 8%, each jar takes 14.4 g of oil and 165.6 g of wax. Ten jars need 144 g of each oil, which is the first place makers trip: one 100 g bottle pours only 6.94 jars. A 50 g plus a 100 g gives 150 g per scent, enough for 10 jars with 6 g to spare.
| Item | Pack | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh Strawberries | 50 g + 100 g | ₹590.00 | 10 jars (144 g) |
| Jasmine | 50 g + 100 g | ₹660.00 | 10 jars (144 g) |
| Roasted Coffee | 50 g + 100 g | ₹620.00 | 10 jars (144 g) |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 5 kg + 500 g | ₹3,294.00 | 4968 g needed; 5167 g with a 4% allowance |
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar | 6 × 5 | ₹1,203.60 | 30 jars with golden lug caps |
| Eco Candle Wicks, Thin C1 | 50 | ₹295.00 | 30 jars plus spares |
| Total | ₹6,662.60 | Before freight and GST |
The wax line shows why the allowance matters. Thirty jars need 4968 g of wax, which fits inside a 5 kg bag with 32 g to spare. That is too tight. Plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns — a working assumption, not a measured figure — and the need rises to about 5167 g, so add a 500 g bag. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost the same per kilo at 1 kg and 5 kg (₹599.00), so there is no penalty for splitting the purchase.
| Oil | 50 g + 100 g | Blended ₹/g | Oil per jar | Wax per jar | Total, jar from a 5-pack | Total, jar from a 50-pack |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh Strawberries | ₹212.40 + ₹377.60 | ₹3.93 | ₹56.64 | ₹99.19 | ₹201.85 | ₹191.23 |
| Jasmine | ₹230.00 + ₹430.00 | ₹4.40 | ₹63.36 | ₹99.19 | ₹208.57 | ₹197.95 |
| Roasted Coffee | ₹230.00 + ₹390.00 | ₹4.13 | ₹59.52 | ₹99.19 | ₹204.73 | ₹194.11 |
Material cost here is oil, wax, wick and jar. It excludes labour, packaging, labels, freight and GST. The last two columns show the per-jar effect of the jar pack you choose; they are a preview of the next section. Notice how close the three oils are: the whole spread between the cheapest and dearest scent is under ₹8 a jar. At this tier, choose scents by what customers want, not by the oil price.
Buying the jars in the right pack
Jars are where makers most often overbuy, because the per-jar price in a big pack looks so much better. The Salsa jar is ₹40.12 each in the 5-pack and ₹29.50 in the 50-pack, a saving of ₹10.62 a jar. But you pay for all 50. Six 5-packs for the 30-jar pilot cost ₹1,203.60; one 50-pack costs ₹1,475.00 and leaves you with 20 jars you may not need yet. The 50-pack becomes the cheaper way to buy only at 36 jars or more.
| Jar | Pack | Per jar | When to buy it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, golden lug cap | 5 for ₹200.60 | ₹40.12 | Lid included; pilot runs |
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, golden lug cap | 50 for ₹1,475.00 | ₹29.50 | Cheaper than 5-packs only once you need 36 or more jars |
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, golden lug cap | 100 for ₹2,950.00 | ₹29.50 | Same per-jar rate as the 50-pack |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 5 for ₹354.00 | ₹70.80 | Matte finish; gift-led ranges |
| Yankee Glass Jar 130 ml, clear cap | ₹47.20 each | ₹47.20 | Buy exactly the number you need |
Fill weights for these jars are not published; only the Golden Aluminium Tin (₹360.00 for 12) is sold with a stated 85 g fill. Weigh a test pour in whichever jar you choose and re-run the oil maths with your own figure. The container candle hub prices the same oil across five containers side by side.
Order three: the repeat order
The repeat order is the first one sized to demand, and the sequence below keeps it honest.
The three oils used on this page cover three families that a first jar range usually needs. They are chosen as test candidates for a jar range at the value end of the catalogue, not as the only good choices.

If you want more than three families from the start, the first 10 oils for a soy candle business suggests a wider opening range, and buying fragrance oils for soy candles covers the soy-specific route. For a stronger-scented jar, read strong oils for scented jar candles before the pilot, not after.
Once the pilot has told you what sells, the rest of this cluster picks up the thread. Premium oils for luxury jar candles prices the upper tier if your customers want more; a luxury container collection shows how to grow three scents into six; large three-wick jars covers the big festive format; and where to buy professional oils for jar candles lists the supplier checks worth running before a larger order.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A buying guide from a supplier could easily push the biggest pack. This one tells you to buy jars in 5-packs for a 30-jar pilot even though the 50-pack is cheaper per jar, and to treat our beginner kits as one option rather than the answer, because that is what the numbers say.
Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Salsa and Yankee jar prices were pulled on 24–25 September 2026; White Matte jar, Eco Candle Wicks, Wick Centering Device, scale and thermometer prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Every total is arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check it.
The 180 g Salsa fill, the 8% load and the 4% wax allowance are working assumptions, not published specifications; weigh your own jar. Wick sizes by jar diameter are not published; set them by burn test. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10% — the wax maker's stated maximums.
