CSI Bulk Orders · First 500-Candle Order
Before you say yes, run seven calculations: the formula gate, the materials rounded to real packs, the pieces, the days, the cash that leaves before the balance, your price against true cost, and delivery. Then reply "yes, if…".
29 a day
candles needed over 19 pouring days to deliver 500 inside a 28-day worked-example date · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What do I calculate before saying yes to my first 500-candle order? Seven things, in order: is the formula already proven in this jar; how much wax and oil, rounded to real packs; how many pieces with buffers; how many working days at your proven rate; how much cash goes out before the advance; whether your price beats your true cost; and how the candles reach the client. Then reply "yes, if…", not "yes".

How much material is a 500-candle order? At the 200 g / 8% default, 100 kg of finished candle: 8 kg of oil and 92 kg of wax. With 10 extras, a 5% first-order loss buffer and a 1% heel, you pour 535 and buy 100 kg of wax and 9 kg of oil: ₹1,05,734.00 in CSI materials, ₹1,30,304.00 with your jars at a worked-example ₹45.00.

Can I finish in time? Inside a worked-example 28-day deadline you have 19 pouring days, so you need 29 candles a day. At a proven 30 a day you hand over on day 26; at 25 a day you are 3 days late.

What should my reply say? Yes, for a named date, if the client approves a sample in writing, pays an advance before you buy (here a 50% advance still leaves ₹17,804.00 of your own money in the order), and keeps the quantity, scent and packaging as approved.
The short answer
The gate: if this jar, wick, oil and load have not been burned to the end together, the first calculation is a development calendar, not a purchase sheet. Do not say yes to a date yet.
The order as numbers: 500 saleable + 10 extras + 25 loss buffer = 535 to pour; 99.42 kg of wax and 8.646 kg of oil before pack rounding; 546 wicks and 546 jars with 2% breakage.
The money: ₹1,30,304.00 of materials (₹260.61 a saleable candle); add a helper and freight and the worked-example true cost is ₹300.21 a candle against a ₹450.00 price.
The settling number: 29 candles a day for 19 days. If your proven rate is lower, the yes needs a later date, not more hope.
500 candles: the cash before you are paid Worked example: ₹450.00 a candle, 50% advance, balance on delivery. zero ₹1,12,500.00 Day 0 advance in ₹1,30,304.00 Days 1–2 materials out ₹1,12,500.00 Day 26 balance in ₹94,696.00 After delivery left over your money Hatched band: ₹17,804.00 of your own money is in the order from day 1 to day 26. The settling numbers 535 candles to pour 29 a day needed (you: 30) ₹300.21 true cost a candle ₹450.00 your price
A worked-example cash waterfall for 500 candles. The advance arrives on day 0 (black); materials go out on days 1–2 (outlined), taking you ₹17,804.00 below zero (hatched band) until the balance arrives on delivery (day 26). What remains (grey) still has to pay for labour, freight, GST and overheads before it is profit. Bottom row: the four numbers that settle the decision.
Straight answer
I received my first 500-candle order. What should I calculate before saying yes to the customer?
Seven numbers, and the first one can stop the rest. 1. Proven or not: the exact jar, wick, oil and load must already have burned to the end together; if not, you are quoting development time. 2. Materials: 500 × 200 g at 8% is 8 kg of oil and 92 kg of wax; with 10 extras, a 5% loss buffer and a 1% heel you pour 535 and buy 100 kg of wax (₹59,900.00) and 9 kg of oil (₹27,612.00). 3. Pieces: 546 wicks and 546 jars, 510 boxes and labels, rounded up to packs. 4. Days: pouring days left after set-up and the 72-hour tail, against your proven daily rate; for a 28-day date that is 29 a day. 5. Cash: ₹1,30,304.00 leaves your account before the first candle is poured. 6. Price: materials, help and freight come to ₹300.21 a candle in the worked example; your quote must clear it with room for GST, your time and mistakes. 7. Delivery: packing hours, boxes and who pays freight. Then reply with a conditional yes that names the date, the approval, the advance and the change rule.
One line: say yes to a date only after the formula gate, the purchase sheet, the daily rate and the cash gap all pass; then put the conditions in writing.
Make the approval sample first, from small packs: a 100 g British Rose (₹342.20) fills six 200 g candles at 8%, and a 10-pack of Eco C2 wicks is ₹94.40. Do not buy the 100 kg until the client signs off on the sample. All in stock on 7 October 2026.
British Rose 100 g — ₹342.20

Your order, written as numbers

An order you cannot write as numbers is an order you cannot price, buy for or deliver.

Your title gives one figure: 500 candles. Before any calculation, write down the others. Where the client has not said, write your assumption and send it back for confirmation. The full intake questionnaire is the client-questions post; this page needs only the seven lines below. Everything except the 500 is a labelled worked example: replace each one with yours.

Your first order as numbers · the inputs every later calculation uses
Reader's figure from the title: 500 candles · everything else a labelled worked example · counts declared
Input Figure Source and why it matters
Saleable candles 500 Reader's figure (title). Ask whether it is firm or an estimate: a quantity that may fall later changes how much you buy up front
Fill weight 200 g Series default (the title gives none). It decides every kilogram on this page
Fragrance load 8% of total weight 16 g oil + 184 g wax per candle; your proven load is the one to use
Scents 1 (British Rose) Worked example. Two scents means two oil lines, two approvals and a clean-down between them
Delivery date day 28 after the PO Worked example; one address. Split deliveries change packing and freight
Your proven daily rate 30 candles a day Worked example. Proven means timed on a real day, not hoped for
Your price ₹450.00 a candle, ex-GST Worked example. It is tested against true cost in calculation 6

Two of those lines are where first orders usually go wrong. The fill weight: a 200 g candle is 200 g of finished wax and oil, not a 200 ml jar (the 200 ml versus 200 g post). The daily rate: if you have never poured more than 40 candles in a week, "30 a day" is a guess, and a guess is not an input. Time one full day before you reply.

If you are not sure the order is real yet
A quantity that "might be 500" is not an order. Price it, give a validity date, and do not buy anything. A verbal yes with no purchase order is its own post in this series (6362).

Calculation 1: is the candle already proven?

The cheapest mistake in a 500-candle order is the one you find on a single test candle.

This is a yes-or-no calculation, and it comes first because a "no" changes everything after it. The candle is proven only if all five are true: the same wax, the same oil at the same load, the same wick, the same jar, and the same dye (or none), burned together through the whole jar in still air, with an acceptable melt pool, flame, soot and jar heat in the final third. "I've made rose candles before" is not proof if the jar is new.

The formula gate · tick every row before you quote a date
Any "no" means development first · the development calendar and the non-negotiable tests have their own posts
Check What "yes" means If "no"
Same jar This jar model, from this supplier, burned to the end New wick ladder: a new jar is a new candle
Same wick This wick in this jar, not "a similar size" Bracket test in the jar (C1 / C2 / Cotton Braided are CSI's rungs)
Same oil and load This oil at this % of total weight Load ladder at 6/8/10% within both ceilings; British Rose's page caps candles at 10%
Same wax This wax product, not "any soy" A new wax changes throw, adhesion and wick behaviour
Burned to the end Full-life burns, several candles, still air You do not yet know how the last third behaves
Client has seen it A sample from proven stock, approved in writing Send one before you buy anything

If every row is a yes, carry on to the purchase sheet. If any row is a no, your answer to the client is a development date, and the time that takes (sample oil, load ladder, cure, full-life burns, approval) is the new-fragrance development post. Count that in calendar time, not effort: pour, then cure (the 25 CSI oil pages that state a cure give 48–72 hours for soy, and many makers judge throw at day 3, 7 and 14), then full-life burns in sessions of three to four hours. In our judgement that is one to two weeks before a client should see a sample, whatever the deadline. The steps that cannot be squeezed even when the client is in a hurry are the never-skip post.

Mistake: saying yes to 500 because the sample candle "smelled great" after a day. Why it fails: one fresh candle tells you about cold throw and appearance. It says nothing about whether the wick drowns at the halfway point, the jar overheats in the final third, or the scent holds after a 72-hour set. Those failures surface as 500 complaints, not one. Fix: burn at least two or three candles of the exact build to the end before you give a date; if there is no time, offer a candle you have already proven, or a later date.

Calculations 2 and 3: materials and pieces, rounded to packs

Required, plus planned extras, plus losses, rounded up to packs you can actually buy, with the leftover written down.

This is the calculation most first-timers get half right. They work out 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil, order exactly that (₹55,108.00 of wax at the kilo price and ₹24,544.00 of oil), and run short on day 11. The full buffer method is the purchase-sheet post; whether to plan for 500 or 525–550 is the 500-versus-525 post; and the oil line on its own is the 500 × 200 g wax-and-oil post. Here is the sheet for this order.

The three buffers, kept separate

Planned extras are candles you intend to make and not sell: 4 QC retains, kept with their lot numbers until well after delivery, and 6 burn-check candles pulled from different days of production. The loss buffer covers candles you will reject: sinkholes, off-centre wicks, chipped jars, a bad pour. For a first order of this size you have no reject history at 500, so this sheet uses 5%, a little above the 4% the 1,000-candle hub uses, and you record what actually happens for next time (the 5%-more-than-planned post). The heel (1% of the mix) is wax left in the pot and pitcher that never becomes a candle. Pieces (wicks, jars, boxes, labels) get a 2% breakage and defect allowance of their own. Nothing is buffered twice.

Bulk purchase sheet · 500 saleable × 200 g at 8% · CSI live pricing, 7 October 2026
Extras = 4 retains + 6 burn checks · loss = 5% rejects (first order) · heel = 1% of mix · pieces +2% · all buffers worked examples · every pack in stock on 7 October 2026, depth not promised

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 92.00 kg 1.84 kg 4.60 kg rejects + 0.98 kg heel 99.42 kg 20 × 5 kg = 100 kg ₹59,900.00 0.58 kg, reusable
British Rose Fragrance Oil 8.00 kg 0.16 kg 0.40 kg rejects + 0.086 kg heel 8.646 kg 9 × 1 kg ₹27,612.00 354 g, reusable
Eco Candle Wicks C2 500 10 25 rejects + 11 defects (2%) 546 500 + 50 = 550 ₹5,192.00 4 wicks
Your 200 g jar (your supplier) 500 10 25 rejects + 11 breakage (2%) 546 your supplier's packs ₹24,570.00 at ₹45.00 (worked example) confirm
Corrugated Box 11 x 11 x 8 cm 500 none (retains stay unboxed) 10 spare (2%) 510 5 × 100 + 1 × 50 = 550 ₹12,331.00 40 boxes
Candle Care Stickers 500 none 10 spare 510 1 × Pack of 1000 (1.5 inch) ₹699.00 490 stickers
CSI materials ₹1,05,734.00 ₹211.47 a saleable candle
All materials incl. your jars wax 46.0%, oil 21.2%, jars 18.9% ₹1,30,304.00 ₹260.61 a saleable candle

₹260.61 per saleable candle includes every buffer, but it excludes labour, freight, GST, your own time and overheads. Against the naive "92 kg and 8 kg" order, the extra lines cost real money; they also cost far less than running short and buying 5 kg in a hurry on day 11, with a second lot of oil that may not match the first.

Three pack decisions that change the total

Wax: the biggest bag is not the cheapest. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹5,999.00 for 10 kg, which is ₹9.00 more than two 5 kg bags (₹2,995.00 each) and ₹9.00 more than ten 1 kg bags. For 100 kg, ten 10 kg bags cost ₹59,990.00; twenty 5 kg bags cost ₹59,900.00. The 500 g bag is cheapest of all per kilo (200 of them would be ₹59,800.00, another ₹100.00 less), but 200 bags is a lot of opening and weighing for a saving that small. We sell the 10 kg. For this order, buy the 5 kg.

Oil: check per gram before you assume. On British Rose the 1 kg is ₹3.07 a gram against ₹3.19 for 500 g, so 9 × 1 kg (₹27,612.00) beats 18 × 500 g (₹28,674.00) by ₹1,062.00, and also beats 8 × 1 kg + 2 × 500 g (₹27,730.00). On several other CSI oils the 1 kg costs the same as two 500 g bottles, or slightly more; a few perfume-grade listings are flat per gram from 50 g to 1 kg. Check the per-gram column on the oil you actually use. CSI lists no oil pack above 1 kg.

Pieces: flat per piece, so buy the smallest covering combination. Eco C2 wicks are ₹9.44 each in every pack size, so 550 wicks (500 + 50) at ₹5,192.00 beat a 1,000-pack you would mostly store. The stickers are the opposite case: one 1,000 roll at ₹699.00 is ₹127.00 cheaper than two 500 rolls, though it is a larger sticker. The box is a flat ₹22.42 at 50 or 100.

Tempting shortcut: pouring into CSI's clear 200ml Salsa jar because it is ₹29.50 a jar in 100s. Why it doesn't fit this order: a 200 ml jar does not hold a 200 g candle. On the common rule of thumb it holds about 172–180 g of wax to the brim, before headspace, and it is a different jar from the one your sample was proven in. Fix: keep the jar your formula was tested in. If the client wants a cheaper, smaller candle, that is a new candle with its own sample, its own burn test and its own approval; the 1,000-candle hub works that variant through (the 1,000-in-21-days hub).

Calculation 4: the days it really takes

Twenty-eight days to delivery is not twenty-eight days of pouring.

Dividing 500 by 28 gives 17.9 a day, and it is wrong in the client's favour and against yours. Take out the days you cannot pour: Sundays (on a 6-day week), the set-up days while the PO, advance and materials arrive, and the tail after the last pour, when candles set, are checked and packed. A 72-hour set before lidding is a planning judgement: 25 CSI oil pages that state a cure give 48–72 hours for soy before burn testing, and British Rose's page states none in the text we captured.

From the client's 28 days to a daily rate · worked example, day 1 = a Monday, 6-day week
The settling number is the rate you need, compared with the rate you have already proven
Step Figure Note
Calendar days to delivery 28 Worked example (the client's date)
Working days 24 Four Sundays off
− Set-up 2 Written PO and advance, WhatsApp confirmation, materials in and checked
− Tail after the last pour 3 72-hour set, final QC, packing, hand-over
= Pouring days 19 Days you can actually pour
Candles to pour 535 500 + 10 extras + 25 loss buffer
Rate needed 29 a day (28.16) 535 ÷ 19: the settling number
At your proven 30 a day 18 pouring days 23 working days: hand-over on day 26, 1 working day spare
At 25 a day 22 pouring days 27 working days: hand-over on day 31, 3 days late

So the decision rule for the date is simple: if your proven rate is at least 29 a day, accept the 28-day date; if it is lower, quote the date your rate gives you. At 30 a day you can pour 570 in 19 days, enough for 535 with one working day to spare. Feasibility for bigger jumps, where the rate has to multiply rather than nudge, is the cluster hub, the 1,000-in-21-days post.

Check the stations behind the rate, not just the pot. Thirty candles a day held for about four days (72-hour set plus a day waiting to be packed) is about 120 rack positions. Packing 500 at a worked-example 2.5 minutes a candle is 20.8 hours: pack each day's candles as their 72 hours end, rather than leaving every box to the last two days.

Promise your internal date, not your last date
Plan to finish on day 26 and tell the client day 28. The working day in between is your buffer for a late delivery, a bad pour or a sick helper. How much spare to keep, and how to express it, is the spare-capacity post.

Calculations 5 and 6: cash before the advance, and price against true cost

A profitable order can still empty your bank account on day 2.

Calculation 5: the cash that leaves before the first pour

Almost every rupee on the purchase sheet is spent before production starts: ₹1,30,304.00 on days 1 and 2 in the worked example. The client's money arrives in two pieces, the advance and the balance. At a worked-example ₹450.00 a candle the order is worth ₹2,25,000.00; a 50% advance is ₹1,12,500.00. That covers 86.3% of the materials, so ₹17,804.00 of your own money is tied up from day 1 until the balance of ₹1,12,500.00 arrives on delivery, before you have paid anyone to help. An advance of about 57.9% would cover every material on the sheet.

How big the advance should be, and what it must cover (at least the client-specific materials you could not reuse), is the advance post and the non-reusable-materials post in the next cluster (6364). For this calculation you need only one figure: the cash gap you can fund without risking your other orders. If you cannot fund ₹17,804.00, ask for a larger advance or split the purchase (wax in two deliveries costs nothing extra per kilo at CSI's flat pricing; see the split-purchasing post).

Calculation 6: your price against your true cost

Materials are not the whole cost. Add a helper for the 23 working days (worked example ₹600.00 a day, ₹13,800.00) and freight to the client (worked example ₹6,000.00), and the true cost per saleable candle is ₹300.21, still before GST, your own time, overheads and the test candles you made to win the order. The method for every line, including failed batches, is the true manufacturing cost post.

Price against true cost · per saleable candle · worked example
Materials from the purchase sheet (buffers included) · helper, freight and price are worked examples · excludes GST, your time and overheads
Line Per candle Order total Note
Wax (100 kg Chunks) ₹119.80 ₹59,900.00 buffers included
Oil (9 kg British Rose) ₹55.22 ₹27,612.00 buffers included
Jars (546 at ₹45.00) ₹49.14 ₹24,570.00 your supplier, worked example
Wicks, boxes, stickers ₹36.44 ₹18,222.00 CSI packs
Materials ₹260.61 ₹1,30,304.00
Helper ₹27.60 ₹13,800.00 23 days at ₹600.00, worked example
Freight to client ₹12.00 ₹6,000.00 worked example: check your courier's terms
True cost ₹300.21 before GST, your time, overheads
Your price ₹450.00 ₹2,25,000.00 worked example
Left per candle ₹149.79 (33.3%) ₹74,896.00 pays your time, overheads and any surprises

Two readings matter. First, the floor: the lowest price that pays for materials, help and freight is ₹300.21. If the client counters at a worked-example ₹350.00, you keep ₹49.79 a candle for your time and every risk on this page, which is thin for a first order. Second, the mix: wax is 46.0% of materials and oil 21.2%, while the jar alone is 18.9%. If the price needs to come down, the jar and the box are bigger levers than the wax (the which-component-first post).

Mistake: pricing a 500-piece order from your website candle's material cost. Why it fails: the website figure has no loss buffer, no QC retains, no burn checks, no helper and no freight to one address, and it was bought in smaller packs. Fix: price from this sheet. If the client wants a volume discount, the honest test is which costs actually fall at 500 (at CSI, wax barely changes per kilo between bag sizes and wicks not at all per piece) before you give anything away.

Calculation 7 and the "yes, if…" reply

The reply is where the six calculations turn into a promise you can keep.

The last calculation is delivery: who packs, how the cartons travel and who pays. Five hundred candles in 550 boxes are bulky; couriers commonly bill on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so check your courier's terms and put freight in the quote, or state that it is extra. One address or many changes everything; ask now, not on day 25. Then write the reply. Run the seven calculations in this order; each can end it.

1
Pass the formula gateEvery row of the gate table is a yes, or your reply is a development date.
2
Build the purchase sheet535 to pour; 100 kg wax, 9 kg oil, 546 wicks, 546 jars, 510 boxes and labels, rounded to packs with leftovers written down.
3
Confirm the materials existSend CSI the list on WhatsApp and ask for stock, lots and a dispatch date; ask your jar supplier for 546 from one batch. CSI cannot promise stock depth or dispatch days in advance, so get the answer before the client gets a date.
4
Check the rate29 a day for 19 pouring days, against your proven rate. Lower means a later date.
5
Check the cash and the priceA cash gap you can fund (₹17,804.00 here) and a price above true cost (₹300.21 here) with room left over.
6
Settle deliveryAddress, split, packing standard, freight payer, and who signs for it.
7
Send a conditional yesThe template below. Practical judgement, not legal advice: a short written order beats a long chat thread.
The "yes, if…" reply, ready to adapt
"Thank you. Yes, we can make 500 × 200 g British Rose candles in our [jar], delivered to [one address] on [date: day 26], if: (1) you approve the attached sample (scent, fill, label, box) in writing by [date]; (2) the 50% advance of ₹1,12,500.00 reaches us by [date], because materials are bought the day it arrives; (3) quantity, scent and packaging stay as approved, since changes after approval move the date and may carry a cost for materials already bought; (4) the balance of ₹1,12,500.00 is paid on delivery. Prices exclude GST and freight unless stated. This quote is valid until [date]."

Every number in that reply comes from a calculation above. If any condition fails (the sample is not approved, the advance is late), the date moves by the same number of days. Say that once, kindly, in the reply. It saves an argument in week three. The scored go / no-go version of this decision is the decision-matrix post.

This page is for you if it is your first order of a few hundred, from a formula you already sell, with one or two scents. It is not enough if the client wants a new scent, jar or colour: that is development first (6311 and 6312). Use the hub instead if the quantity is several times what you make in a month: that is a capacity question first (6301).

What to buy, and what not to buy yet

Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 7 October 2026. CSI publishes no burn or throw data, so nothing is ranked on performance, and each card assumes the item is already part of your proven candle. Each one says when not to buy it.

1
wax · container soy · do not buy the biggest bag
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for Jar / Container Candles
The worked-example wax, on the assumption that it is the wax your sample was already burn-tested in. The page states "up to 13% fragrance load capacity" and, in its FAQ, "13% of total wax weight", so 8% sits well inside either reading; it also claims "Exceptional fragrance throw" and "Clean burning with minimal soot". In the text we captured it gives no temperatures, only "Add fragrance at the recommended temperature". Argued against our own interest: the 10 kg bag is the dearest way to buy 100 kg of it. Twenty 5 kg bags cost ₹59,900.00; ten 10 kg bags cost ₹59,990.00. Buy the 5 kg.
Size Price Per kg 200 g candles at 8% (184 g wax) Note

fragrance oil · floral (rose) · the worked-example scent
British Rose Fragrance Oil
The page describes "fresh, dewy rose petals with subtle green undertones and a soft floral finish" and states a candle load of "up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin", so on this wax the oil page's 10% is the lower ceiling and governs; 8% is inside it. In the text we captured it states no cure time and no vanillin figure. Every size is in stock on 7 October 2026. The 1 kg is genuinely cheaper per gram here (₹3.07 against ₹3.19 for 500 g): ₹118.00 a kilo, ₹1,062.00 across 9 kg. Limitation: a rose that pleases one client can read as old-fashioned to another, so the approved sample, not this card, decides the scent.
Size Price Per gram 200 g candles at 8% (16 g) Oil per candle
15 g ₹94.40 ₹6.29 none (a sniff sample) ₹100.69
50 g ₹212.40 ₹4.25 3 ₹67.97

wick · pre-tabbed · flat per piece
Eco Candle Wicks — Thick (C2)
Only if C2 is the wick your jar was tested with. In the text we captured, the page states no length or jar-diameter range, so a wick is proven by a burn test in your jar, never by a card. Every C2 pack is ₹9.44 a wick, so 546 wicks are best bought as 500 + 50 (₹5,192.00), not the 1,000-pack. The Thin (C1) 10-pack is out of stock on 7 October 2026; the other C1 packs are in stock.

packaging · shipping outer · check the size first
Corrugated Box for Candle Packaging (11 x 11 x 8 cm)
A plain kraft shipper with "self-locking tabs" (page wording), flat at ₹22.42 a box in 50s and 100s. The page says "Size: 11 x 11 x 8 cm" without saying inside or outside, so put your lidded 200 g jar in one before you buy 550. If the client is supplying printed gift boxes, you may need these only as outers, or not at all.
Pack Price Per box For this order
Pack of 50 ₹1,121.00 ₹22.42 the top-up
Pack of 100 ₹2,242.00 ₹22.42 5 of these + one 50 = 550, ₹12,331.00
550 boxes = ₹12,331.00; 40 spare. Buy 100 — ₹2,242.00

packaging · safety labelling · a roll that is cheaper bigger
Candle Care Stickers Roll
Burn-care stickers for the base or box. Here the bigger roll is the cheaper buy: one 1,000 roll (₹699.00) costs ₹127.00 less than two 500 rolls (₹826.00). The catch is size: the 500 roll is 1 inch, the 1,000 roll is 1.5 inch. Check that 1.5 inch fits your jar base and label layout. Your label's safety wording is your responsibility; the sticker is a reminder, not a substitute.
Pack Price Per sticker For this order
Pack of 500 (1 inch) ₹413.00 ₹0.83 two rolls = ₹826.00
Pack of 1000 (1.5 inch) ₹699.00 ₹0.70 covers 510 with 490 spare
One 1,000 roll = ₹699.00. Buy 1,000 roll — ₹699.00

Argued against our own interest: do not buy any of the five in bulk before the client has approved the sample in writing and paid the advance. Before that, buy only what the sample needs: 100 g of oil, a 10-pack of wicks, a few jars. If the order falls through, you want to be holding ₹342.20 of rose oil, not 9 kg. And if your proven wax is a different one, such as Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, stay with it: a cheaper wax in the middle of your first big order is a reformulation, not a saving. Tools for the run, if you lack them: a Weighing Scale and a Pen Thermometer (₹354.00 each, both in stock on 7 October 2026).

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 32 days from 7 October 2026. If a 500-candle Diwali order starts on Monday 12 October, the day-26 hand-over in this plan falls on Friday 6 November, 2 days before Diwali, with no slack for the client's own distribution. Tell them that now. CSI cannot promise dispatch dates or stock depth in advance, so send your list on WhatsApp before you confirm, and we will tell you what we can supply, from which lot and when it ships, with a GST invoice.

The CSI principle
Say yes to a date only after the numbers have said yes. Then write the conditions down.
For a first order of 500: a proven candle, 535 to pour, ₹1,30,304.00 of materials bought to real packs, 29 a day against your proven rate, a cash gap you can fund and a price above ₹300.21.
"Your first big order is not a test of how hard you can work. It is a test of how carefully you said yes."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wax, oil, wicks, boxes and stickers on this page, and does not sell finished candles. The page still tells you that our 10 kg wax bag is the dearest way to buy 100 kg, that a 1,000-pack of wicks saves you nothing per wick, that our 200 ml jar cannot hold your 200 g candle, and that you should not buy anything in bulk before the client approves and pays.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: every item priced here is in stock on that date; the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock and is not used. Stock depth, dispatch days and lot continuity for bulk quantities are not shown on product pages and are not promised here.

The 200 g fill, 8% load, 28-day date, 30-a-day rate, buffers, jar price, helper cost, freight, price and 50% advance are labelled worked examples for you to replace; the 72-hour set is a planning judgement. This is practical business judgement, not legal or financial advice. For bulk pricing, stock and lot confirmation, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check before accepting my first bulk candle order?
Seven things: that the exact candle is already proven by full burns; the wax, oil and pieces you need with buffers, rounded to real packs; the working days at your proven rate; the cash you spend before the balance arrives; your price against your true cost; delivery; and a written conditional yes with a sample approval and an advance.
How much wax and fragrance oil do I need for 500 candles of 200 g?
At 8% fragrance on total weight, 100 kg of finished candle: 8 kg of oil and 92 kg of wax. With 10 extra candles, a 5% reject buffer and a 1% heel you pour 535 and buy about 100 kg of wax and 9 kg of oil.
How many extra candles should I make for a 500 candle order?
Count them in two groups. Planned extras you will not sell (here 4 QC retains and 6 burn-check candles), plus a loss buffer for rejects. With no reject history at this size, 5% (25 candles) is a sensible first-order assumption. Pieces such as jars and wicks get a further 2% for breakage.
How much advance should I ask for a candle order?
Enough that you are not funding materials you cannot reuse if the client cancels. In this worked example a 50% advance (₹1,12,500.00) still leaves ₹17,804.00 of your own money in the order; about 57.9% would cover every material. Treat it as practical judgement, not legal advice.
Is a 10 kg bag of soy wax cheaper than buying 5 kg bags?
Not for CSI's Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. The 10 kg bag is ₹5,999.00, ₹9.00 more than two 5 kg bags at ₹2,995.00. For 100 kg, twenty 5 kg bags cost ₹59,900.00 and ten 10 kg bags cost ₹59,990.00. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is flat per kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg.
How long does it take to make 500 candles?
At a proven 30 candles a day, 18 pouring days, plus about two days of set-up and three for setting, QC and packing: 23 working days, or day 26 on a six-day week. At 25 a day it is day 31. Time a full real day before you promise a date.
Your first 500-candle order
Pass the gate, build the sheet, check the rate and the cash, then say "yes, if…".
535 to pour, 100 kg of wax and 9 kg of oil, ₹1,30,304.00 of materials with your jars, 29 candles a day. Send us the list before you reply to your client, and we will confirm stock, lots and dispatch, or tell you plainly what we can't promise.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster "Can I actually accept this order?" (6301–6320) in the series on bulk corporate and wedding candle orders × raw materials. It covers the seven calculations before saying yes to a first 500-candle order: the formula gate, a bulk purchase sheet rounded to in-stock CSI packs, working days against a worked-example deadline, the cash gap before the balance, price against true cost, delivery, and a conditional-yes reply.

Non-price figures: 500 candles is the reader's figure (title). The 200 g fill and 8% load are the series defaults; load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 28-day client date, 6-day week with day 1 a Monday, 2 set-up and 3 tail days, the 30- and 25-a-day rates, 10 planned extras, 5% first-order loss buffer, 2% piece breakage, 1% heel, ₹45.00 jar, helper at ₹600.00 a day, ₹6,000.00 freight, ₹450.00 price, ₹350.00 counter-offer, 50% advance and 2.5-minute packing time are labelled worked examples; the 72-hour set is a planning judgement and the 0.86–0.9 ml-to-g factor a rule of thumb. Wax and oil ceilings are as the pages state (Chunks up to 13%; British Rose up to 10% for soy candles): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Costs exclude GST, your own time and overheads unless stated. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
