CSI Collection Buying · 1 kg Inventory
The kilogram is cheaper per gram for some oils, identical for many and fractionally dearer for a few. Here is the real saving for every candle-grade CSI oil, and the three tests that decide which ones deserve bulk.
62.3%
the largest 100 g → 1 kg per-gram saving on CSI's range (Citronella); many oils save 0% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils deserve 1 kg inventory? Only oils that pass three tests: they have sold (not just smelled good), you will pour a kilogram within about 90 days, and the 1 kg is actually cheaper per gram than two 500 g packs. Miss the first two and the kilogram is a cash problem; miss the third and it is simply the wrong pack.

How much does 1 kg save over 100 g? It depends entirely on the oil. Of the 48 CSI oils with a stated candle load and both sizes listed, 11 are 10% or more cheaper per gram at 1 kg, 15 are 3–10% cheaper, 16 save less than 3% or nothing, and 6 are fractionally dearer per gram at 1 kg. Citronella saves 62.3%; Woody Oud, Sandalwood and Apple Cinnamon save nothing.

Is 1 kg ever a bad deal? Yes. Sage and Cedarwood's 1 kg (₹6,867.60) costs ₹1,699.20 more than two of its 500 g packs (₹5,168.40). Blue Ocean, Love Spell and Wild Berries are fractionally dearer per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g.

How long does fragrance oil keep? CSI's product pages do not state a shelf life, and we will not invent one. Keep bulk oil sealed, cool and dark, decant a working bottle, and test a candle from any kilogram that has been open for months before production.
The short answer
The rule: 1 kg only if it has sold, it will empty in about 90 days (28 or more 150 g candles a month at 8%), and its 1 kg beats its 500 g per gram. Otherwise 2 × 500 g, then 500 g if it empties within about 120 days, else 100 g.
The savings: large for a few oils (Citronella 62.3%, Eucalyptus Spearmint, Verbena, British Rose, Pumpkin Spice), small for most, zero for flat-priced oils, including the brand-inspired listings sold only in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg.
The trap: Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood — the 1 kg is 33% dearer per gram than the 500 g.
The test: a 30-day sell-through on 100 g or 500 g before any oil is promoted to a kilogram.
1 kg vs 100 g: the per-gram saving, oil by oil Positive = 1 kg cheaper per gram than 100 g · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026 0% 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% Citronella 62.3% Honeydew Melon 22.0% Mango Coconut 20.7% Verbena 20.0% Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.3% Lemongrass and Lime 11.9% British Rose 10.3% Pumpkin Spice 10.0% Jasmine 8.8% Cucumber Green Tea 5.7% Citrus Lemon 5.6% Roasted Coffee Fragrance 4.2% Lavender 3.3% Bergamot Amber 2.9% Sage and Cedarwood 1.4% Sandalwood 0.0% (flat) Woody Oud 0.0% (flat) Apple Cinnamon 0.0% (flat) Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) 0.0% (flat) Blue Ocean -0.1% (1 kg dearer) Love Spell -0.2% (1 kg dearer) Wild Berries -0.2% (1 kg dearer) Honeydew Melon and Mango Coconut pages state no candle load. Sage and Cedarwood: 1 kg is 1.4% below 100 g but dearer per gram than its own 500 g. Sandalwood, Woody Oud, Apple Cinnamon and Gilli Mitti are flat from 100 g (Apple Cinnamon and Gilli Mitti from 50 g). Percentages are rounded to one decimal; per-gram prices as listed on each product page.
How much cheaper per gram the 1 kg pack is than the 100 g, for 22 CSI oils on 24 September 2026. The saving is dramatic for Citronella, useful for a handful of oils, and nil or negative for many. Price per gram alone rarely justifies a kilogram; sell-through does.
Straight answer
I am buying several fragrance oils in 1 kg. How do I decide which ones deserve bulk inventory?
Put every candidate through three tests, in this order. Proven: the oil has passed a cured burn test at your chosen load and has sold to customers, not just to you. Fast: at your current pour rate it will use a kilogram within about 90 days; a kilogram makes 83 candles of 150 g at 8%, so that means roughly 28 or more candles a month. Cheaper: its 1 kg costs less per gram than its 500 g; if not, two 500 g packs give the same or a better price in smaller steps. An oil that passes all three gets a kilogram. Proven and fast but not cheaper: 2 × 500 g. Proven but slower, with a 500 g that empties within about 120 days: 500 g. Anything else: 100 g, and a 30-day sell-through test before you think about bulk again. On CSI's range the per-gram saving from 100 g to 1 kg runs from 62.3% (Citronella) to nothing for oils priced flat per gram (Woody Oud, Sandalwood, Apple Cinnamon and Gilli Mitti from 100 g, and the brand-inspired listings sold only in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg), so for most oils the kilogram is a stocking decision, not a discount.
One line: a kilogram is earned by sales and speed; the price per gram only decides whether it comes as one bottle or two.
The oil where 1 kg changes the maths. Citronella is ₹767.00 for 100 g and ₹2,891.00 for 1 kg: ₹7.67 against ₹2.89 per gram, or ₹57.35 less oil cost per 8% candle. The page states "Use up to 10% for a strong throw".
Buy Citronella 1 kg — ₹2,891.00

What 1 kg really saves over 100 g, oil by oil

"Buy bulk, save money" is true for a handful of oils and false for a surprising number.

Names that include a brand (for example the Bath and Body Works-inspired listings) are CSI's product listing names; the oils are interpretations, CSI is not affiliated with those brands, and the names should not appear on your labels. The table covers every CSI oil whose page states a candle load and which lists both a 100 g and a 1 kg size on 24 September 2026: 48 oils. The per-candle column is the oil saving in one 150 g candle at 8% (12 g) if you buy the kilogram instead of the 100 g. The "1 kg vs 500 g" column is the one that decides the pack: where the 500 g already matches the kilogram's price, there is no price reason to take the bigger bottle.

What the four bands tell you

Band A (11 oils): the kilogram is genuinely cheaper. Citronella is the outlier: its 100 g (₹7.67/g) is priced like its 50 g, and its 500 g already falls to ₹2.95, a 61.5% drop. Ten 100 g packs would cost ₹7,670.00; one kilogram is ₹2,891.00, ₹4,779.00 less. (On the 996 g that a kilogram actually pours into 83 candles at 8%, the saving is ₹4,759.88.) We state that as a fact from the price list, not an explanation. Eucalyptus Spearmint, Verbena, Lemongrass and Lime, British Rose, Ylang Ylang, Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon and Fallen Leaves also save 10% or more, as does Roasted Coconut (19.2%; its page states "candles (up to 10%)"), which lists no 500 g, so its only step between 100 g (₹495.00) and 1 kg (₹3,999.00) is the kilogram itself; Rajnigandha (Tuberose) sits in this band on paper but is out of stock at every size.

Band B (15 oils): useful, not decisive. Jasmine, Fresh Strawberries, Cinnamon Vanilla, Cucumber Green Tea, Citrus Lemon, Roasted Coffee, Lavender and others save 3–10%. On Roasted Coffee that is ₹1.94 per candle; on Lavender, across the 83 candles a kilogram pours, ₹178.28. Real money at volume, but not a reason to buy a kilogram of something that is not selling.

Band C (16 oils): no meaningful saving. Sandalwood, Woody Oud, Apple Cinnamon, Gilli Mitti, Palo Santo, Neroli, Peach Melon Berry, White Royal Oud, Gardenia and the Mahogany Teakwood listing are priced flat from 100 g (some from 50 g), or within a few paise per candle of flat. For these, the 100 g and the 1 kg cost the same per gram, so the kilogram is purely a stocking choice. Bergamot Amber and Sage and Cedarwood save under 3%.

Band D (6 oils): the kilogram is fractionally dearer. Blue Ocean, Love Spell, Wild Berries, Juicy Orange, Lavender Cranberry Coconut and the Dahlia listing (its 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg are out of stock) cost a few paise more per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g. Love Spell's 500 g (₹5.00/g) is dearer per gram than both its 100 g (₹4.49) and its 1 kg (₹4.50). None of this is large; all of it says: check before you assume.

Beyond this table: 54 CSI oils state no candle load on their pages. Counting "flat" as a per-gram price within 1% across every listed size, 25 of those (with more than one size listed) are flat, so 1 kg saves nothing: they include all 13 brand-inspired listings sold only in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg. The rest are not flat, and several perfume-grade oils do get cheaper per gram from 100 g to 1 kg: the Sauvage Elixir Inspired Fragrance Oil listing (CSI's listing name; the oil is an interpretation and CSI is not affiliated with the brand) 10.9%, Amber Oud Royal 10.4%, Royal Oud 8.4% (its 100 g is out of stock on 24 September 2026), Ban Magnet 6.6%, Tobacco Vanilla 6.1%, the Freshwater listing 5.7% (its 500 g and 1 kg are out of stock on 24 September 2026) and Neroli Signature Grade 4.9%. Perfume-grade pages that quote usage rates of 15–25% are quoting perfume rates, not candle loads, so any of these belongs in bulk only after a successful burn test inside your wax's ceiling.

The sell-through test

Price tells you which pack; sell-through tells you whether to hold bulk at all. The test takes 30 days and uses stock you would buy anyway.

1
Start from a tested oil at a fixed loadOnly oils that have passed a cured burn test at your chosen load (6%, 8% or 10%, inside the lower of the wax's and the oil page's ceiling) enter the test. An untested oil never goes straight to 1 kg.
2
Stock 100 g or 500 g, not more100 g makes 8 candles at 8%; 500 g makes 41. Choose the size that will not run out before day 30 at your hoped-for rate.
3
Count candles sold, not pouredPoured candles sitting on your shelf are inventory in a different form. Record sales per scent per week for four weeks.
4
Convert to days per kilogramDays to use 1 kg = 83 ÷ candles sold per month × 30. At 28 a month, about 89 days; at 14 a month, about 178 days; at 40 a month, about 62 days.
5
Adjust for the seasonA monsoon oil tested in July will not sell at July's rate in November. If the next 90 days include the end of the oil's season, halve its rate before deciding.
6
Apply the three tests and write the answer on the shelf1 kg, 2 × 500 g, 500 g or 100 g. Revisit it at the quarterly review, not every time you feel like it.
Why 90 days
It is a judgement, not a rule from the product pages: long enough for a kilogram to earn its saving, short enough that the bottle does not sit open through a season change. If your storage is cool and dark and the oil is a year-round core scent, you might accept 120 days; if your store room is hot in May, shorten it.

The decision table, worked for eight oils

Worked example: a brand selling across eight tested scents, with monthly candle sales from its own 30-day test (the numbers are illustrative). "Fast" means 1 kg empties within 90 days; "cheaper" means the 1 kg beats the 500 g per gram. Oils that are not fast get 500 g if a 500 g (41 candles) empties within about 120 days, otherwise 100 g.

Worked example · illustrative sales, real CSI prices
Eight oils through the three tests
Oil Candles sold a month Days to use 1 kg / 500 g 500 g → 1 kg per gram Fast? Cheaper? Hold as
Lavender Fragrance Oil 40 62 / 31 days ₹5.24 → ₹5.22 yes yes 1 kg
British Rose Fragrance Oil 35 71 / 35 days ₹3.19 → ₹3.07 yes yes 1 kg
Roasted Coffee Fragrance 30 83 / 41 days ₹3.78 → ₹3.74 yes yes 1 kg
Citronella Fragrance Oil 12 208 / 102 days ₹2.95 → ₹2.89 no yes 500 g
Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil 20 125 / 61 days ₹3.30 → ₹3.07 no yes 500 g
Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 18 138 / 68 days ₹4.53 → ₹4.53 no no 500 g
Mango Coconut Fragrance Oil 10 249 / 123 days ₹3.96 → ₹3.96 no no 100 g
Sage and Cedarwood Fragrance Oil 14 178 / 88 days ₹5.17 → ₹6.87 no no 500 g

Notice what decides each row. Lavender and British Rose sell fastest and their 1 kg is cheaper per gram than their 500 g, so they earn a kilogram. Roasted Coffee earns one too. Woody Oud fails both tests: at 18 a month a kilogram would take 138 days, and its 500 g and 1 kg cost the same (₹4.53), so a 500 g (68 days) gives the same price with half the exposure. Citronella has the biggest price saving in the range and still does not earn a kilogram at 12 a month: 1 kg would take 208 days. A 500 g would take about 102 days and, at ₹2.95 per gram, captures most of the saving. Mango Coconut, at 10 a month, stays at 100 g. Sage and Cedarwood never gets a kilogram at any speed on this price list.

Argued against our own interest: we sell the kilogram, and for five of these eight oils the right answer is not to buy it. The most common mistake we see is buying 1 kg because the per-gram price is lower, then pouring 300 g of it before the season or the customer moves on. A kilogram that takes nine months to empty has cost you more than the 100 g price you were trying to avoid.

Kilogram shelves at three sizes

Once oils have earned their kilograms, the question becomes how much cash the kilogram shelf ties up.

Three shelf sizes built from Band A and B oils (the ones where a kilogram does save money), with the same grams priced as 500 g pairs and as 100 g packs for comparison. Every size used is in stock on 24 September 2026.

₹1,307.00 vs 500 g

Two lessons. First, almost all of the saving over 100 g packs is already available at 500 g: the kilogram's extra saving over 2 × 500 g is small on every shelf. So the real choice for most businesses is between 100 g and 500 g, and the kilogram is for the few oils moving fastest. Second, Citronella carries most of the 3-oil shelf's ₹5,605.00 saving over 100 g packs on its own (₹4,779.00 of it), so a shelf built without it saves much less. Seasonal timing of kilogram buys is planned in I Want to Launch Different Candle Collections for Summer, Monsoon and Winter — How Should I Plan My Fragrance Oil Inventory?, and batch-level quantities for manufacturers in Bulk Seasonal Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturers.

1
citrus herbal · 1 kg if it sells
Citronella Fragrance Oil
The biggest per-gram saving on the range. Stated notes: "Top: Lemon, Lemongrass- Middle: Citronella, Green Herb- Base: Wood"; stated load "Use up to 10% for a strong throw"; the page states "Phthalate-Free: Yes". Describe it on your label by scent (lemony, green, woody) only: no insect or repellent claims. Limitation: it is strongly seasonal for many buyers (outdoor evenings, the monsoon), so its sell-through can collapse outside those months; its 500 g already gets most of the saving.

2
rose · 1 kg once proven
British Rose Fragrance Oil
A Band A floral: "fresh, dewy rose petals with subtle green undertones and a soft floral finish", stated load "candles (up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin)". Its 1 kg (₹3.07/g) is cheaper than its 500 g (₹3.19), so once it is fast it is a clean kilogram decision. Three reviews on its page are five stars, one verified. Limitation: rose is a gifting-season scent for many brands; check that its sales hold outside February and wedding months before you commit.

3
coffee gourmand · 1 kg for a core scent
Roasted Coffee Fragrance
A Band B oil that is a candidate for 1 kg because gourmands often sell all year: "fresh coffee bean top notes, dark chocolate and espresso heart, and a warm vanilla and caramel base", stated load "candles (6-10%)". Three reviews on its page are five stars, two verified, one describing the coffee fragrance as "quite strong". Limitation: the saving over 500 g is small (₹3.78 to ₹3.74 per gram), so the kilogram is justified by speed, not price.

Mango Coconut Fragrance Oil
A 20.7% per-gram saving from 100 g to 1 kg, but outside the banded 48-oil table because its page states no candle load: "the sweet, juicy aroma of ripe mango with creamy, luxurious coconut", and the page states no candle load. Work inside your wax's ceiling (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%) and test 6%, 8% and 10% before any bulk decision. The page describes it as "IFRA-certified" (its wording). Limitation: its 500 g (₹3.96/g) already equals its 1 kg; two 500 g packs cost exactly the same (₹0.00 difference), so there is never a price reason for the kilogram.

oud · flat priced: bulk is optional
Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
A Band C oil: ₹4.53 per gram at 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg alike. Stated notes: "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk"; stated load "candles (6-10%)". Both reviews on its page are verified and positive. Limitation, and the point: because the price is flat, the only reason to hold a kilogram is to avoid running out; 500 g packs do that with less exposure.

Sage and Cedarwood Fragrance Oil
The clearest case against the kilogram: "Herbaceous sage with warm, woody cedar undertones", stated load "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". On 24 September 2026 its 500 g is ₹5.17 per gram and its 1 kg ₹6.87, 33% more; two 500 g packs cost ₹5,168.40, which is ₹1,699.20 less than one kilogram. Saffron Cedarwood has the identical ladder from 50 g up. Limitation: none on the oil itself; the issue is only the pack. Ask us on WhatsApp before ordering 1 kg.

Storage and handling for kilogram stock

A kilogram is more exposed than a 100 g bottle simply because it is opened more often and sits longer. CSI's product pages do not state a shelf life for these oils, so what follows is general practice among candle makers, hedged, not a specification.

Kilogram handling · general practice
What to do, and why it matters more at 1 kg
Practice Why
Keep sealed, cool and away from light and heat Heat and light are commonly cited as the main causes of fragrance oils changing over time; an Indian store room in May can be very warm.
Decant a working bottle Pour 100–200 g into a smaller bottle for daily use so the kilogram is opened less often.
Label the opening date Your own record is the only shelf-life evidence you will have.
Test before a big pour from old stock If a kilogram has been open for months, pour and burn one candle against your notes first.
Ask for documents MSDS and IFRA documentation are available on request on WhatsApp; ask about storage at the same time.
What we will not tell you: a number of months. We have no stated shelf life on these pages and no stability tests to quote, so any figure would be invented. The practical answer is the 90-day sell-through rule: an oil that empties in about three months rarely lives long enough on your shelf for shelf life to become the question.

Reorder triggers and the quarterly review

Kilogram oils need two rules: when to reorder, and when to demote. Both are judgement; replace our numbers with yours after two cycles.

Kilogram rules · worked thresholds
Reorder, keep, demote
Signal Action
Kilogram down to three weeks of pours (at 28 a month, about 235 g) Reorder the kilogram, after confirming stock on WhatsApp.
Kilogram emptied in under 60 days, twice Consider holding two, or asking for a bulk quote.
Kilogram took 90–120 days to empty Keep at 1 kg, but review before the season changes.
Kilogram took over 120 days Demote to 500 g (or 2 × 500 g if the price is the same).
1 kg goes out of stock Switch to 500 g packs; do not switch oils mid-season without a test candle.
Price list changes Re-run the "cheaper" test; a ladder can change, as Sage and Cedarwood's shows.

The CSI principle
A kilogram is earned by sales, not by the price list.
For most oils the saving from 100 g to 1 kg is a few rupees a candle and the 500 g already captures it. Hold a kilogram when an oil sells fast enough to empty it in about 90 days, and its 1 kg genuinely beats its 500 g.
"The cheapest gram of oil is the one that ends up in a candle somebody bought."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells every size named here and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you that for many oils our 1 kg saves nothing over the 100 g, that for some it costs fractionally more, and that for Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood two 500 g packs are clearly cheaper than our kilogram.

Every price, per-gram figure and stock status was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026; out-of-stock sizes are flagged in the table and never recommended. Per-gram savings are computed from listed prices; candle loads and notes are quoted from each product page.

The three-test rule, the 90-day threshold, the example sales volumes and the storage practices are our judgement, not data; CSI states no shelf life for these oils. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg?
Sometimes. On CSI's range the saving from 100 g to 1 kg ranges from 62.3% (Citronella) to nothing for oils priced flat per gram (Woody Oud, Sandalwood, Apple Cinnamon and Gilli Mitti from 100 g, and the brand-inspired listings sold only in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg); some perfume-grade oils do save (Amber Oud Royal 10.4%, Ban Magnet 6.6%), and a few oils are fractionally dearer per gram at 1 kg. Check the 500 g too: it often matches the kilogram's price.
How many candles does 1 kg of fragrance oil make?
83 candles of 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil each). At 6%, 111; at 10%, 66. Load is a percentage of total candle weight.
How long can I store fragrance oil for candles?
CSI's product pages do not state a shelf life. General practice is to keep oils sealed, cool and dark, decant a working bottle and test a candle from any stock that has been open for months. Aim to use a kilogram within about 90 days.
Which fragrance oils should I buy in bulk for my candle business?
The ones that have sold, will empty a kilogram in about 90 days, and whose 1 kg is cheaper per gram than the 500 g. Everything else is better in 500 g or 100 g until a 30-day sell-through test says otherwise.
Why is 1 kg of Sage and Cedarwood more expensive per gram than 500 g?
On 24 September 2026 CSI lists the 500 g at ₹2,584.20 (₹5.17/g) and the 1 kg at ₹6,867.60 (₹6.87/g). We state that as the listed price; buy two 500 g packs (₹5,168.40) or ask on WhatsApp before ordering the kilogram.
Should I buy perfume-grade fragrance oils in 1 kg for candles?
Rarely. It depends on the listing: the brand-inspired listings sold only in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg are priced flat per gram, so 1 kg saves nothing, while some other perfume-grade oils are cheaper per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g (the Sauvage Elixir listing 10.9%, Amber Oud Royal 10.4%, Ban Magnet 6.6%, Tobacco Vanilla 6.1%, Neroli Signature Grade 4.9%). Perfume usage rates (15–25%) quoted on such pages are not candle loads. Hold them in bulk only after a burn test passes inside your wax's ceiling and they sell fast.
Your kilogram decision
Proven, fast, cheaper: then 1 kg.
Run the 30-day sell-through, check the 1 kg against the 500 g, and buy kilograms only for the oils that pass all three tests. For the rest, 500 g gets you most of the saving.

About this guide: a deep-buyer page on deciding which fragrance oils deserve 1 kg inventory. It computes the per-gram saving from 100 g to 1 kg for every CSI oil with a stated candle load and both sizes listed, sets out a sell-through test and a three-test decision rule, prices kilogram shelves at three sizes and gives hedged storage practice. It does not rank oils by quality or claim sales performance. Brand names in CSI's own listing names are listing names only; CSI is not affiliated with those brands.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — British Rose Fragrance Oil, Eco Candle Wicks, Roasted Coffee Fragrance, Soy Pillar Wax (Specially made for Pillar and Designer Candles), Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the buying advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited.
