My Candle Jar Holds 200 g but Has a Narrow 6.5 cm Diameter — Why Would It Need a Different Wick from Another 200 g Candle in an 8 cm Jar?
शेयर करना
What do I buy for the 6.5 cm jar? The bottom of CSI's range: Eco C1 as our likely centre, Eco C2 as the rung expected to fail high, three candles each. Below C1, CSI's one candidate is the untabbed Eco Candle Wicks Loose, the only CSI wick whose page names a smaller candle ("2 inch diameters"), cut to length; buy it only if C1 runs hot.
And for the 8 cm jar? Eco C1 as the low anchor, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided as the likely centre, three candles each, as in the 8 cm hub.
Do I need two sets of wick packs? No. One C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock), one C2 10-pack (₹94.40) and one Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00) cover both ladders: ₹332.40 instead of ₹544.80 for two orders. The saving is cash, not price per wick.

Same grams, different surface
Pool area is π × r² on the inside diameter: geometry, not a burn prediction. The rest of this table follows from it. The fill depth uses a commonly used rule of thumb (wax weighs roughly 0.86–0.9 times the same volume of water; we use 0.88) and must be confirmed by a weighed pour in your own jar.
| Measure | 6.5 cm inside | 8 cm inside | What it changes in the order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pool area | 33.18 cm² | 50.27 cm² (+51.5%) | Which rungs: the whole bracket moves |
| Grams of candle per cm² of pool | 6.03 | 3.98 | Deep column vs shallow disc |
| Fill depth (rule of thumb) | about 6.85 cm | about 4.52 cm | Wick length: check a 10.16 cm Cotton Braided or a cut length clears your fill |
| Wax left at a ~1 cm stop | 29 g | 44 g | — |
| Wax burned to the stop | 171 g | 156 g | Burn days per candle (see the bill) |
| Rough hours to a full first pool (1 h per 2.5 cm) | about 2.6 | about 3.2 | Session length: at least 3 h for both, 3–4 h for the wide jar |
| Oil and wax per candle at 8% | 16 g + 184 g | 16 g + 184 g | Nothing: equal weight, equal bill per candle |
Read a figure as the outside instead of the inside and the gap shifts but does not close: at a 0.35 cm wall (our labelled assumption), 6.5 cm outside is 5.8 cm inside (26.42 cm²) and 8 cm outside is 7.3 cm (41.85 cm²). Why the same weight can need different wicks in principle is the tall-narrow versus short-wide post; whether one wick can serve two same-capacity jars is the same-capacity, different-diameter post. This page turns it into two orders.
Buy list 1: the 6.5 cm jar
33.18 cm² is between CSI's 6 cm jars (about 22.06 cm² inside on our wall assumption) and its 7 cm jars (about 31.17 cm²). For 6–7 cm the series puts the likely answer at C1 or a rung either side; at 6.5 cm with a mid-weight spiced oil our judgement is C1 as the centre and C2 as the rung expected to fail high. Cotton Braided, described by its page for "exceeding 8 cm", is not in this ladder. How a first-burn tunnel at this size is read is the 6 cm first-burn post; this page owns the order.
| Wick | Role | Count | Smallest in-stock pack | Price | Per wick | When to buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 | likely centre | 3 | 20 (10-pack out of stock) | ₹118.00 | ₹5.90 | First order |
| Eco C2 | expected to fail high | 3 | 10 | ₹94.40 | ₹9.44 | First order |
| Eco Candle Wicks Loose, 10 cm cut | below C1, untabbed | 3 | 5 m | ₹413.00 | ₹8.26 (labelled cut) | Only if C1 runs hot |
| Tabs for the Loose wick | holds it upright | 3 | Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs | ₹706.82 | — | With the Loose; or ask us for tabs alone |
| First order, this jar alone | 6 | two packs | ₹212.40 |
What closes the bracket here: if C1 passes and C2 runs hot, C1 is closed from above but not from below, because CSI lists no sized, tabbed wick smaller than C1. You can approve C1 as "the smallest CSI tabbed rung that passes" and record the missing lower fail, or buy the Loose arm to supply it. If C1 itself runs hot (a fast full pool, a tall flame, a deep pool) the Loose arm is no longer optional: it is the only CSI wick whose page points below this jar's size.
Buy list 2: the 8 cm jar
50.27 cm² is the hub's case, and its ladder applies: C1 as the low anchor, expected to fail low; C2 and Cotton Braided as the likely centre, three candles each. Cotton Braided's page places it at "exceeding 8 cm", which makes this jar its boundary case. Apple Cinnamon's notes run to "vanilla and warm amber"; heavier, sweeter oils are commonly linked to needing a wick step up (a tendency, not a rule), so we keep both upper rungs in play. The full method, the double-wick arm and the approval rule are in the 8 cm hub; this page adds only what changes when it shares an order with the narrow jar.
| Wick | Role | Count | Smallest in-stock pack | Price | Per wick |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 | low anchor, expected to fail low | 3 | 20 (shared) | ₹118.00 | ₹5.90 |
| Eco C2 | likely centre | 3 | 10 (shared) | ₹94.40 | ₹9.44 |
| Cotton Braided | likely centre / fail high | 3 | 10 | ₹120.00 | ₹12.00 |
| This jar alone | 9 | three packs | ₹332.40 |
If Cotton Braided still leaves a ring in the wide jar, the next step is a pair (2 × C1 or 2 × C2), which the hub covers; the shared C1 pack still has 14 wicks after both ladders, enough for a 2 × C1 arm of six. A pair is not part of the narrow jar's plan: at 33.18 cm² our judgement is that two wicks would only add heat.
One set of packs for both ladders
The narrow ladder needs C1 and C2; the wide ladder needs C1, C2 and Cotton Braided. Buying them as two orders would mean two C1 20-packs and two C2 10-packs. Buying once, the C1 20-pack covers both jars' three-candle sets with 14 left, and the C2 10-pack covers both with 4 left. Because the price is flat per wick, sharing does not make a wick cheaper. It means ₹212.40 less cash out today and 30 fewer wicks of rungs you may never approve sitting on a shelf.
| Pack | Price | 6.5 cm jar | 8 cm jar | Left | Covers a re-pour? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 20 | ₹118.00 | 3 (centre) | 3 (low anchor) | 14 | Yes, of either jar, with room for a wide-jar 2 × C1 arm |
| Eco C2 10 | ₹94.40 | 3 (fail high) | 3 (centre) | 4 | Yes, one |
| Cotton Braided 10 | ₹120.00 | — | 3 | 7 | Yes |
| Shared order | ₹332.40 | vs two separate orders ₹544.80 | 25 wicks | Saves ₹212.40 in cash | |
The two-jar bill, candle by candle
Each 200 g candle at 8% is 16 g of Apple Cinnamon (₹75.90) and 184 g of Chunks (₹110.22) in either jar, load as a percentage of total candle weight, CSI's convention. Only the wick line differs.
| Line | 6.5 cm ladder | 8 cm ladder | Both |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candles | 3 × C1, 3 × C2 | 3 × C1, 3 × C2, 3 × Cotton Braided | 15 |
| Apple Cinnamon | 96 g | 144 g | 240 g |
| Chunks | 1,104 g | 1,656 g | 2,760 g |
| Per candle (excl. jar) | C1 ₹192.01 · C2 ₹195.55 | C1 ₹192.01 · C2 ₹195.55 · Cotton Braided ₹198.11 | — |
| Materials consumed | ₹1,162.70 | ₹1,757.04 | — |
| If the Loose arm is needed | +3 candles, ₹583.12 consumed (₹194.37 each, tabs extra) | — | — |
To buy, with one three-candle re-pour in reserve: wicks ₹332.40; Apple Cinnamon 3 × 100 g (₹1,423.08), leaving 60 g (a re-pour needs 48 g); Chunks 3 × 1 kg + 500 g (₹2,096.00), leaving 740 g (a re-pour needs 552 g); three packs of Wick Centering Devices for fifteen singles (₹354.00). Total ₹4,205.48 in cash, before your fifteen jars, and every figure excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. If you are testing only the narrow jar, it is ₹2,357.94.
After approval: two wick SKUs, one oil and wax plan
If both jars stay in your range, production carries the same split as the ladders: the oil and wax plan is per gram and identical per candle; the wick plan is per jar. Wicks to buy = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), the formula from the hub. With a worked-example 100 narrow and 100 wide candles a month and a 5% allowance:
| Line | 6.5 cm jar | 8 cm jar |
|---|---|---|
| Wicks a month | 105 C1 → 100 + 20 = 120, ₹708.00 | 105 C2 → 100 + 10 = 110, ₹1,038.40; or Cotton Braided 110, ₹1,320.00 |
| Materials for 100 candles (1 kg oil, 10 kg wax prices) | ₹19,217.92 | ₹19,571.92 on C2 |
| Apple Cinnamon, both jars | 3,200 g → 3 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g, ₹15,179.52 | |
| Chunks, both jars | 36,800 g → 3 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg, ₹22,190.00 | |
The wide jar's wick costs ₹354.00 more a month than the narrow jar's if C2 wins; that is the whole price of the width at this volume. Two wick SKUs need two reorder points, each from its own jar's sales: reorder point = daily use × your lead time + safety stock, with a lead time you set yourself (CSI dispatches from Pune and publishes no lead times or stock depth). How to set them per SKU is the 500-candles-a-month reorder post; whether to keep separate approved ranges per diameter or stock the union is the three-jar-sizes post.
What to buy for the two-jar ladder, and what to skip
Five items for a two-jar, equal-weight ladder, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 16 g per 200 g candle.

Skip for these ladders: Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): one listing with no widths, so it cannot sit in either bracket. Eco Braided Wicks (₹472.00 for 5 m): its page pitches it at "large diameter container jars", the wrong end of the range for the narrow jar and unsized for the wide one. Steel Wick Holder (₹250.00 for 5): only if the wide jar needs a pair.
CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oil and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to share wick packs between jars, that bigger tabbed packs save nothing per wick, that our range has no sized, tabbed wick below C1, that the below-C1 option is untabbed and costly to test, and that we list no container at either width.
Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Wick, oil and wax wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.
The centres (C1 for 6.5 cm; C2 or Cotton Braided for 8 cm), the 10 cm cut length, the 0.35 cm wall, the 0.88 wax-to-water rule of thumb, the 5% allowance and the 100 + 100 month are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb, not CSI data; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. The 6.5 and 8 cm inside diameters, the 0.35 cm wall, the 0.88 wax-to-water ratio (from a commonly used 0.86–0.9 rule of thumb), the ~1 cm stop and the 10 cm cut length are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (Chunks up to 13%, "13% of total wax weight" in its FAQ; Apple Cinnamon 6–10% for soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones.
