CSI Wick Buying · 5 mm Wider Jar
Five millimetres adds a ring of wax you can barely see and a test you should not skip. Buy two arms, not three: the wick you already trust and the rung above it, three candles each, and approve on the full life.
₹120.00
one Cotton Braided 10-pack: the whole new purchase for a 5 mm confirm when your wick is C2 · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Is a 5 mm wider jar enough of a change to test again? Yes, enough for a small confirmation order, usually not enough for a full re-ladder. Going from 7.5 to 8.0 cm inside adds 6.09 cm² of wax surface, 13.8% more for the same wick to melt (declared). That can move a wick that was comfortable into a ring at the glass.

What should I buy? Your current wick plus the next rung up, three candles each: six candles. If your approved wick is Eco C2, the only new purchase is a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00); the C2 comes from your production stock (or a C2 10-pack, ₹94.40, if the shelf is empty).

How much cheaper is that than starting over? In our worked example (200 g at 8% Bergamot Amber, CSI 464), six confirm candles use ₹1,146.35 of materials; a full nine-candle re-ladder uses ₹1,705.06 and adds a C1 20-pack (₹118.00) for a rung that already failed low in the narrower jar.

When can I order production wicks for the new jar? Only after all three candles of one arm pass a full-life burn in the new jar. If your current wick passes, nothing new is stocked at all. Don't buy a big pack of either wick before then: per wick, CSI's tabbed wicks cost the same in every pack.
The short answer
Buy: one rung above your current wick, 3 candles' worth: Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00) if you run C2; C2 10 (₹94.40) if you run C1; a pair arm if you already run Cotton Braided. The current wick comes from your stock.
Pour: six candles in the new jar, same wax, oil lot, load and fill method as the old approval: 3 on the current wick, 3 one rung up. ₹1,146.35 of materials in the worked example, jars excluded.
Approve: screen at burn 3, then burn the leading arm to about 1 cm left. All three candles must pass the full life in the new jar; the old jar's approval does not carry across.
Escalate to a full ladder only if the old approval was borderline, the "5 mm" came from outside measurements, the glass or shape changed too, or you are changing wax, oil or load at the same time.
5 mm wider: a thin ring of new wax, and a six-candle order Left: inside diameters drawn to scale (3 px per mm), your jars, not CSI listings. Right: candles per order, worked example (200 g at 8% Bergamot Amber in CSI 464, C2 approved in the old jar). CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. old pool, 7.5 cm inside 44.18 cm² same centred wick the 5 mm ring: +6.09 cm² new pool, 8.0 cm inside: 50.27 cm² 13.8% more surface for one wick to melt (+15.2% if both figures are outside sizes) 1 cm at this scale Confirm order · 6 candles C2 · your current wick from the production lot you pour with Cotton Braided · one rung up new 10-pack ₹120.00, 7 spare ₹1,146.35 of materials new wick cash ₹120.00 Full re-ladder · 9 candles C1 · one rung down failed low in the 7.5 cm jar already C2 · your current wick from stock Cotton Braided · one rung up new 10-pack ₹120.00 ₹1,705.06 of materials new wick cash ₹238.00 (adds a C1 20-pack) wick you own wick you buy known fail The re-ladder adds three candles (₹558.71 of materials) to re-test a rung the narrower jar already rejected. Bergamot Amber at the 500 g price, CSI 464 at the 10 kg price; your jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST excluded. Worked example, not CSI burn data.
Left, at true scale: the 5 mm step is a ring only 2.5 mm wide on each side, yet it adds 6.09 cm² (13.8%) to what one centred wick must melt to reach the glass. Right: the confirm order tests the two wicks that can win, your current one and the next rung up; the full re-ladder adds three candles on a rung the narrower jar already rejected. Worked example on CSI live prices, 1 October 2026; jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST excluded.
Straight answer
My new jar is only 5 mm wider than my existing container. Is that enough of a diameter change to justify another wick test?
It is enough to justify a test, but a small one. Five millimetres sounds trivial; on a 7.5 cm inside diameter it adds 6.09 cm² of surface, 13.8% more for the same wick to melt, and the extra wax sits exactly where tunnels start: at the glass. So don't skip testing, and don't start from zero either. Buy a minimum confirmation order: your current wick plus the next rung up, three candles each, poured in the new jar with the same wax, oil, load and method as the old approval. If you run Eco C2, that is three C2 from your stock and three Cotton Braided from a ₹120.00 10-pack. The rung below is not needed: a wick that already failed low in the narrower jar has more surface to fail on now. Approve whichever arm passes the full life, all three candles, and only then order production wicks. In our worked example the confirm order uses ₹1,146.35 of materials against ₹1,705.06 for a full re-ladder.
One line: 5 mm wider earns six candles on two wicks, your current one and one rung up, not nine candles on three.
The confirm order, if your approved wick is C2: one Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00), in stock on 1 October 2026. C2 from your production lot; if you have none, a C2 10-pack (₹94.40) brings the wick cash to ₹214.40. Nothing bigger until an arm passes full life.
Cotton Braided 10 — ₹120.00

The confirm order: two arms, six candles

You already own the answer to half the question. Buy only the half you don't.

A confirm order exists because you are not starting from nothing. You have an approved wick for the old jar, a recipe that passed a full life, and records of what failed either side of it. The 5 mm step changes one input, the surface, by a known amount, so the question narrows to two possibilities: the current wick still reaches the glass, or it now needs the next rung. Test those two, nothing else.

The worked example on this page: the old jar is 7.5 cm inside, the candle is a labelled 200 g fill at 8% (16 g Bergamot Amber + 184 g CSI 464), and the approved wick is Eco C2, chosen in a ladder where C1 failed low and Cotton Braided ran hot. The new jar is 8.0 cm inside. Both are your jars: CSI lists no jar at 8 cm, and its three listings with a 7.5 cm figure (two glass jars with bamboo lids and a ceramic container) are all out of stock on 1 October 2026.

The optional control is one candle of the approved recipe poured into the old jar from the same pot. It costs ₹189.78 in materials and answers a question the new jar cannot: if the control misbehaves too, the change is in your oil lot, wax bag or room, not in the 5 mm. Bought from nothing except your C2 and your jars, the whole confirm order is ₹1,974.80: the Cotton Braided pack, 150 g of oil and 2 kg of wax. If you already hold C2, oil and wax, the order is the ₹120.00 pack alone.

Don't buy yet: not the C2 500-pack you were about to reorder "for the new jar", and not a Cotton Braided 100. Until the six candles have burned down, you don't know which of the two the new jar wants. Argued against our own interest: the right purchase for a 5 mm change is usually one ₹120.00 pack, and sometimes nothing at all, if your current wick holds.

Is 5 mm enough to matter? The surface sums

The wick doesn't see diameter. It sees area, and area grows with the square.

Pool area is π × r² on the inside diameter: geometry, not a burn prediction. The 5 mm step on this page adds a ring 2.5 mm wide all round, which looks like nothing in the diagram and is 6.09 cm² of wax that must melt before the pool touches the glass. The same 5 mm matters more on a narrow jar than a wide one; the full maths of 5 mm steps is the 5 mm difference post, and the short version is below.

What 5 mm does at different widths
Inside diameters unless stated · π r² · 0.35 cm wall assumed where a figure is the outside · all declared
Step Extra surface What it means for the order
6.0 → 6.5 cm inside 17.4% Confirm order; the step is proportionally larger on small jars
7.0 → 7.5 cm inside 14.8% Confirm order
7.5 → 8.0 cm inside (this page) 13.8% (44.18 → 50.27 cm²) Confirm order: current wick + one rung up
7.5 → 8.0 cm, both outside, 0.35 cm walls 15.2% (6.8 → 7.3 cm inside) Confirm order, but measure the insides first
9.5 → 10.0 cm inside 10.8% Confirm the configuration you run (often a pair) plus its next step

Measure the inside, not the label. If the old jar is 8.2 cm outside with 0.35 cm walls and the new one 8.7 cm outside with 0.5 cm walls, the insides are 7.5 and 7.7 cm: "5 mm wider" is really 2 mm and 5.4% more surface (worked example). How to get the inside figure from a jar in your hand is external versus internal diameter.

Two more numbers from the same geometry. A very rough rule of thumb (about one hour of burning per 2.5 cm of width) puts a full first pool at about 3.0 hours in the old jar and 3.2 in the new one, still inside the commonly quoted 3–4 hours. And if you fill the new jar to the same height as the old 200 g, the candle grows to about 227.6 g (declared): more wax and oil per candle, more burn days, the same wick question. Whether you keep 200 g or the old fill height is a product decision; how weight and diameter split the order is the diameter-or-weight post.

Why not skip testing altogether?
Because the cost of being wrong is not the wick. If the new jar sells 150 candles a month and C2 leaves a ring in it, that is ₹28,466.64 of oil and wax (worked example, jars excluded) poured around the wrong wick before the first complaint. Six test candles cost ₹1,146.35.

Which rung is "one up" from your wick

"One rung up" depends on where you already are, and CSI's ladder is short.

CSI's tabbed, ready-to-use wicks are Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made, with pairs of C1 or C2 above them. There is no sized, tabbed wick between those rungs, and none above Cotton Braided. That makes the confirm order easy to write and occasionally impossible to fill exactly; better you know which case you are in before you order.

The confirm order by current wick
Current wick from your stock · the up-arm is the only new purchase · 3 candles per arm · CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026
Approved in the old jar Up-arm for the new jar Smallest in-stock pack New wick cash Note
Eco C1 Eco C2 × 3 C2 10-pack ₹94.40 The C1 arm comes from your stock; if you need fresh C1, it is sold in 20s (₹118.00) while the 10-pack is out of stock
Eco C2 (this page) Cotton Braided × 3 Cotton Braided 10-pack ₹120.00 Cotton Braided's page: "exceeding 8 cm"
Cotton Braided 2 × C1 per candle × 3 (6 wicks) C1 20-pack ₹118.00 No larger single exists at CSI; the step up is a pair, plus a holder
2 × C1 2 × C2 per candle × 3 (6 wicks) C2 10-pack ₹94.40 Re-check spacing in the wider jar too
2 × C2 none tabbed at CSI — — Re-space the pair first; then ask us or another supplier

Why not one rung down as well? A wider jar asks more of a wick, not less: the same flame now has 13.8% more wax to melt. A rung that failed low at 7.5 cm is commonly expected to fail lower at 8 cm, so re-testing it buys a result you already hold. The exception is the case in the next-but-one section, where the new jar burns hotter for a reason other than width; that is the one time the C1 20-pack earns its place.

If Cotton Braided is already your wick, moving to a pair is a bigger change than a rung: two flames, spacing, a holder, twice the wicks per candle. The cost of adding that arm is set out in the 8.5 cm double-arm post; the revalidation list for one large wick becoming two is the one-to-two-wicks change post.

Mistake: reading "one rung up" as "a bit bigger" and expecting Cotton Braided to behave like C2 plus 5 mm. Why it fails: CSI's steps are coarse; Cotton Braided may be a larger jump than your 5 mm needs. Fix: that is exactly what the confirm order is for. If C2 leaves a ring and Cotton Braided runs hot, you have found a gap between two CSI rungs, and the honest next step is in the results table below, not a bigger pack.

Confirm order or full re-ladder: the rupee comparison

The wicks are the cheap part of either order. The candles you pour around them are not.

Same worked example, both orders costed at production prices: Bergamot Amber at the 500 g price (₹5.44 a gram), CSI 464 at the 10 kg price (₹0.51 a gram), wicks at pack price per wick. Per 200 g candle, the oil is ₹86.98 and the wax ₹93.36: ₹180.34 before the wick goes in.

If no C2 is left in stock ₹214.40 ₹332.40
Calendar one cure + one full life the same: arms burn in parallel

The re-ladder costs ₹558.71 more in materials, three more of your new jars, three more burn positions on the bench, and ₹118.00 more in wicks. It does not save time, because every arm burns in parallel. What it buys is a documented C1 fail in the new jar, which you could have predicted from the old one. For a 5 mm step, that is the definition of paying for certainty you already have.

If you are buying everything fresh (a first production in a new jar from a new supplier, say), the confirm order still uses 100 g + 50 g of oil (₹840.00) and leaves 54 g: enough for 3 more candles, one re-poured arm. The re-ladder needs two 100 g bottles (₹1,120.00) and leaves 56 g; 100 g + 50 g would leave only 6 g, not one candle.

Don't buy the C1 20-pack "to be thorough": it is ₹118.00 of wicks plus three candles (₹558.71) to re-confirm a fail. Argued against our own interest: we would rather you spend that on the re-pour oil above, which is what actually rescues a test when one candle of three goes odd.

When the shortcut is the wrong call

A confirm order assumes the only thing that changed is 5 mm. Check that assumption first.

The two-arm order is only valid when the new jar differs from the old one in width and nothing else that matters. Before you order, run down this list. Any "yes" turns the confirm order into a full re-ladder (C1, C2 and Cotton Braided × 3), or into a different sibling post.

Escalation triggers · our judgement, labelled
Any "yes" means the old approval is too far from the new jar to confirm with two arms
Question If yes
Was the old approval marked borderline (a faint ring that only just closed, or a flame near your upper limit)? Full re-ladder: a borderline wick has no margin to absorb 13.8% more surface
Did the old ladder ever document a fail above the approved wick? If not, the bracket never closed; run all three rungs (the bracket-closure rule)
Are both "5 mm" figures outside measurements, or from labels? Measure the insides first; the real change may be 2 mm or 7 mm
Is the new glass much thicker, or the base much heavier? Add a thin-glass control arm: the thick-glass post
Does the new jar taper (wider at the top, narrower at the base)? Buy for the top and add lower-zone candles: the tapered-jar post
Are you also changing wax, oil, load or fill height by a lot? Not a confirm order: the jar is no longer the only change
Do several oils share this wick in the old jar? Confirm with the representatives, not all of them: retest scope by fragrance group

The last row matters if you run a range. This page costs one oil. Which of your other oils need the same six candles, and which can ride on a representative, is a triage question with its own post above; the purchase consequence is simple: each oil that needs confirming adds six candles and its oil grams, but no new wick pack, because the 10-pack's 7 spare Cotton Braided and your C2 stock cover two more oils' up-arms before you need a second pack.

And if the new jar is not "5 mm wider" but a different shape that happens to hold the same 200 g, that is a jar change, not a width change: the new-jar, same-capacity post sorts out what carries over and which rungs to top up.

Reading the six candles: what each result buys next

Every outcome of a confirm order points at a purchase, including "none".

Run it exactly as the old approval was run, so the jar is the only thing that differs. Screen at burn 3; approve only on the full life to about 1 cm left (thresholds and depth in the acceptance-depth post, the calendar in the full-life calendar post).

1
Measure three new jarsInside diameter at rim, middle and near the base, and the fill line you will use. If the middle or base differs from the rim by more than a couple of millimetres, read the escalation list again.
2
Pour all six from one pot1,104 g of wax and 96 g of oil mixed once (plus one candle's worth for the old-jar control). CSI 464's page states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; if the new jar states a lower hot-pour limit, the lower figure governs.
3
Centre and label every wickC2-a to C2-c and CB-a to CB-c on the base. An off-centre wick fakes exactly the ring you are looking for.
4
Cure them identicallyThe Bergamot Amber page says "cure 48-72 hours"; many makers wait about a week before judging. Use the same cure you used for the old approval.
5
Burn 3–4 hour sessions in still airTrim to about 5–6 mm, no fan or AC vent, full cool-down between sessions, burn within sight. Log the ring at four points each hour, pool depth, flame height and soot.
6
Screen at burn 3, finish the leadersCarry every candle of a passing arm to about 1 cm left. Near the bottom, judge how close the flame sits to the glass by eye; never touch the glass to judge heat.
Confirm-order outcomes · current wick C2, up-arm Cotton Braided

What the candles show Reading Next purchase
All 3 C2 reach the glass by burn 3 and pass the full life The 5 mm is absorbed; C2 stays approved for the new jar Nothing new. Keep reordering C2 as before; the 7 spare Cotton Braided wait for the next jar change
C2 leaves a ring at burn 3; all 3 Cotton Braided pass the full life The new jar needs the up-rung Cotton Braided for the new jar's production (sized below); C2 stays for the old jar if you still sell it
Both arms pass the full life Two workable wicks Choose on the calmer final third, flame height and soot; the smaller wick that passes is the common default (judgement)
C2 leaves a ring; Cotton Braided runs hot (tall flame, mushrooming, pool well past 1 cm) The answer sits between two CSI rungs Check centring and session length; then a pair arm (2 × C1, ₹118.00 for 20) or ask us for anything in between
C2 runs hotter in the new jar than it did in the old one Something other than width changed (glass, shape, fill) The one case for the C1 20-pack (₹118.00): a three-candle C1 arm, plus a check of the escalation list
Only 1 or 2 of an arm's 3 pass Not decided No wicks: re-pour three of that arm from the 54 g of oil left (if you bought fresh) or your stock

If the switch to Cotton Braided happens, treat it as an up-rung change and run the up-rung risk checks on flame, pool depth, mushrooming and final-third heat before hundreds of candles: the moved-one-size-up checklist. The gap case, where C2 is too small and Cotton Braided too big, is the 9 cm problem in miniature; the ranked options are in the tunnels-with-one, too-hot-with-two post.

Keep the old approval on file
A confirm order adds a row to your records; it does not replace the old one. Write the new jar as its own entry: inside diameter, fill, wick, oil lot, wax lot, result, date. If you ever go back to the 7.5 cm jar, its approval still stands.

From a confirmed wick to the production order

Production quantity follows the same formula whichever arm wins: wicks to buy = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), with 5% as our worked-example allowance for rejects and retests (the full explainer is in the cluster hub). Because C1, C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick in every pack, choose packs that add up to the number, nothing more.

Production after a confirm order · worked example: 150 candles a month in the new jar
Flat per-wick pricing · 5% allowance · your lead time, not CSI's · all figures declared
Outcome Wicks a month Packs What changes
C2 holds your existing C2 plan + 150 × 1.05 your usual C2 packs No new SKU. One more jar on the same wick line
Cotton Braided wins 157.5, round up to 158 100 + 50 + 10 = 160 wicks, ₹1,920.00 A new SKU for the new jar; ₹2.56 more per candle than C2, ₹384.00 a month at 150 candles

Reorder point for a new Cotton Braided line: daily use × your lead time + safety stock. At 150 candles a month that is 5 wicks a day; with a 10-day order-to-bench time and a week of cover, reorder at 85 wicks. The 10 days is your figure: CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp before a big run. How several wick lines share reorder points is the per-SKU reorder post.

Don't buy the big pack of the old wick "for both jars" before the six candles read: if you had reordered a C2 500-pack (₹4,720.00) for the new jar and Cotton Braided wins, those wicks only serve the old jar, and if the old jar is being discontinued they sit unused. The 500-pack is ₹9.44 a wick, exactly what the 10-pack costs. Argued against our own interest: buy a month plus safety stock of whichever wick the new jar approves, then reorder on the formula.

If you run several jars and the new one adds Cotton Braided to a range that already holds C1 and C2, your stock is the union of the approved wicks, not one range per jar: the three-jar stock map.

What to buy for a 5 mm confirm, and what to skip

Five items, in the order the confirm order uses them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil counts use 16 g per 200 g candle and 12 g per 150 g candle.

wick · the one rung up
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
Often the only new wick a 5 mm confirm order needs. If your old jar runs on Eco C2, Cotton Braided is the next tabbed rung CSI lists, and the page names your territory: "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", with "preventing tunneling" as the page's claim. An 8.0 cm inside diameter sits on that line, so it earns three candles, not a production order. "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm": check it stands clear of your new fill line. Limitation: no width or braid count is stated, and there is no larger single tabbed wick above it; if it tunnels too, the next step is a pair.

The current-wick arm comes from the C2 you already pour with, ideally from the same production lot, so the confirm order tests the jar, not a fresh lot. Buy a C2 10-pack only if your shelf is empty. The page describes "natural fibers like cotton and paper" that "pair perfectly with soy wax" and, in the text we captured, states no length, width or jar range. Stock on 1 October 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock; every other pack is in. Per wick: ₹5.90 C1 and ₹9.44 C2 in every pack. Argued against our own interest: you should not need to buy C1 at all for a 5 mm step up.

Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil
The oil this page is costed on. The page lists "sparkling bergamot and citrus top notes, warm amber and soft floral heart, woody musk and smooth vanilla base" and states "6-10% for soy wax candles, cure 48-72 hours", so 8% sits inside it and inside CSI 464's 10% (8.70% of wax weight, inside 10% on either basis). Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026. The 500 g and 1 kg are both ₹5.44 a gram, and the 1 kg costs ₹1.00 more than two 500 g bottles: a listing fact. If you produce this oil already, the confirm order uses the bottle on your shelf. Limitation: CSI publishes no wick data for any oil, and the vanilla base is the kind of note commonly linked to needing a wick step, a tendency, not a measurement.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
Pour the confirm candles in the wax the old approval used, from stock. The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; price is flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg. If your new jar states a lower hot-pour limit than 90°C, the lower figure governs: CSI's 150 g Clear Glass Jar, for example, says "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C". Changing wax at the same time as the jar turns a confirm order into a new ladder.

Wick Centering Device (Pack of 5)
An off-centre wick fakes a tunnel, and a 5 mm test is a test of small differences. The page describes a wooden bar "Length 4.4" (11,4 cm)" with a "Hole Dia 0,15" (4mm)" for openings "less than 4"": it spans an 8 cm mouth. One hole, so it holds singles only. Argued against our own interest: if you already centre with something that works, keep using it; the method should match the one used for the old approval.

Skip for a 5 mm confirm: the Eco Braided Wicks (₹472.00 for 5 m) and the Braided Wick Roll (₹706.82), unsized and cut to length, only worth a look if the confirm order lands between C2 and Cotton Braided; Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10), one listing with no widths, so it cannot be "one rung up" from anything; and the Steel Wick Holder (₹250.00 for 5), unless your up-arm is a pair.

Switching jars before Diwali (8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026)? A confirm order poured this week, cured 48–72 hours as the Bergamot Amber page states, can pass burn 3 in mid-October; the full-life burns take the weeks after. Send us the result and your candle count and we will quote the production wicks with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Test what changed, with what can win.
A 5 mm wider jar changes one thing, the surface, by 13.8% here. Two arms answer it: the wick you trust and the rung above. Approve on the full life; buy production only for the wick that passed.
"Five millimetres is a ring you can barely see. It is also where every tunnel starts."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oil, wax and centring tools named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy one ₹120.00 pack instead of a new ladder, not to buy our C1 for a 5 mm step up, that our tabbed range has no rung between C2 and Cotton Braided, and that we list no jar at 7.5 or 8 cm in stock.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears, as are the three listings with a 7.5 cm figure; every other size shown is in stock. Wick, oil, wax and tool wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The C2 approval in the old jar, the 200 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall, the escalation triggers, the 5% allowance, the 150-candle month and the 10-day lead time are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times, depths and flame heights are commonly cited rules of thumb, not CSI data; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to retest my wick if my new jar is 5 mm wider?
Yes, with a small test rather than a full one. From 7.5 to 8.0 cm inside the pool grows by 13.8%. Pour three candles on your current wick and three on the next rung up in the new jar, and approve whichever passes a full-life burn.
How much does a 5 mm change in jar diameter affect the melt pool?
It depends on the starting width, because area grows with the square: about 17.4% more surface from 6.0 to 6.5 cm, 13.8% from 7.5 to 8.0 cm and 10.8% from 9.5 to 10.0 cm, all inside diameters. Measure the inside; outside figures can hide a wall change.
Which wicks should I buy to test a slightly wider jar?
Only the rung above your current wick: C2 if you run C1, Cotton Braided if you run C2 (₹120.00 for 10), a pair of C1 if you already run Cotton Braided. Your current wick comes from stock. The rung below is not needed for a step up in width.
Can I use the same wick in a jar that is half a centimetre wider?
Possibly, and the confirm order tells you. If all three candles on your current wick reach the glass and pass the full life in the new jar, keep it and buy nothing new. If they leave a ring, the up-rung arm already in the order shows whether it fixes it.
Should I buy wicks in bulk for a new jar size before testing?
No. CSI's C1, C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick in every pack (₹5.90, ₹9.44, ₹12.00), so buying early saves nothing and risks a pack of the wrong wick. Order a month plus safety stock after a full-life pass.
When should I redo the whole wick test instead of a quick check?
When the old approval was borderline, the old ladder never documented a fail above the chosen wick, the diameters came from labels or outside measurements, the glass or shape also changed, or you are changing wax, oil, load or fill at the same time.
Your confirm order for a 5 mm wider jar
Current wick + one rung up, three candles each: often a single ₹120.00 pack.
Measure both insides, pour six candles in the new jar with the old recipe, screen at burn 3 and approve only on the full life. Send us both diameters and your approved wick on WhatsApp and we will check the order before you pay.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on jar diameter → wick testing (5501–5520) in the series on wick purchase × jar × wax × fragrance. It covers the minimum confirmation order after a 5 mm diameter change (current wick + one rung up, three candles each), the declared pool-area change, the rupee comparison with a full re-ladder, escalation triggers, how each outcome maps to the next purchase, and the step to production quantity and reorder point.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 7.5 and 8.0 cm inside diameters, the 200 g fill and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Bergamot Amber 6–10% for soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times (about 3–4 hours; about an hour per 2.5 cm), depth (about 0.5–1 cm) and flame height (about 2.5–5 cm) are commonly cited rules of thumb. The approved C2, the escalation triggers, the 5% allowance, the 150-candle month and the 10-day lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
