CSI Wick Buying · Spacing Before Size
Wax at the glass and a hot centre is a placement pattern before it is a power problem. Test the same pair at three spacings with the wicks you own, and buy a new size only if spacing fails.
₹188.80
One Eco C2 20-pack: eighteen wicks, nine candles, three spacings, no new size · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Spacing or wick size: which do I test first? Spacing. A hot centre with wax left at the edge is the pattern of two flames working too close together; moving them apart is free in wicks and costs only candles. Buy a new size only after the spacing ladder fails.

What does the spacing test need? The same pair at three spacings, three candles each: nine candles, eighteen of the wick you already use. With Eco C2 that is one 20-pack (₹188.80) or nothing if you hold eighteen, plus a pack of stickers to hold the tabs where you mark them.

Which spacings? In the worked example, a 10 cm inside jar on two C2: today's 4.0 cm (the control), 5.0 cm and 6.0 cm. Along the wick line each wick sits 3.0, 2.5 and 2.0 cm from the glass. These are starting points for testing, not rules.

When is a new wick size justified? When straight, well-fixed wicks at the widest spacing you are willing to test still either over-heat the centre (step down) or leave the edge (step up). Then, and only then, buy a new size, three candles' worth.
The short answer
Buy: Eco C2 20 (₹188.80) if you don't hold eighteen, and Large Candle Wick Stickers 40 (₹249.00) or the 10 mm sheet (₹100.00). No new wick SKU.
Pour: nine 400 g candles at 8% (32 g British Rose + 368 g CSI 464 in the worked example): three at 4.0 cm, three at 5.0 cm, three at 6.0 cm.
Cost: ₹2,948.01 in materials for nine candles excluding jars; the wicks are 5.8% of each candle.
Rule: spacing first; a new size only after the widest tested spacing fails, and then three candles of one rung, not a pack for production.
One pair, three spacings: the ladder that buys no new wick Top views drawn to scale (1.55 px per mm) on a 10.0 cm INSIDE diameter, your jar, not a CSI listing. Same two C2 in every jar; only the spacing changes. Spacings are starting points for testing (judgement), not rules. Distances are geometry, not burn results. Rung 1: now (control) 4.0 cm apart to wall on the line: 3.0 cm to the far wall point: 5.39 cm 3 candles · 6 C2 · 6 stickers Rung 2: wider 5.0 cm apart to wall on the line: 2.5 cm to the far wall point: 5.59 cm 3 candles · 6 C2 · 6 stickers Rung 3: widest 6.0 cm apart to wall on the line: 2.0 cm to the far wall point: 5.83 cm 3 candles · 6 C2 · 6 stickers The whole ladder from one C2 20-pack 18 C2 = one 20-pack (₹188.80, 2 spare) · 18 tabs = one sticker pack of 40 · 9 of your jars · 288 g British Rose · 3,312 g CSI 464 No new wick SKU: if you already hold 18 C2, the wick order is nothing. A size ladder instead would add two SKUs (₹238.00). Hollow dot: the wall point farthest from both wicks (dashed line = that distance). Dotted line: wick to wall along the wick line.
One 10.0 cm inside jar drawn three times at true scale with the same two C2. Widening the pair from 4.0 to 6.0 cm brings each wick from 3.0 to 2.0 cm of the glass along the wick line, but the wall point on the perpendicular axis moves the other way, from 5.39 to 5.83 cm, because it sits beside the pair, not in front of it. That is why a wider spacing can melt the glass at the ends of the wick line and still leave a ring on the two sides across it. The spacings are our starting points for testing; the distances are geometry, not a prediction of how your candle burns.
Straight answer
My double-wick candle leaves wax around the outer edge but the centre is already very hot. How do I decide whether spacing or wick size is the problem?
Test spacing first, because it needs no new wick. Wax left at the edge while the centre runs hot is commonly what two flames set too close together look like: they share their heat in the middle and starve the glass. Pour the same pair at three spacings, three candles each: in the worked example, two Eco C2 in a 10 cm inside jar at today's 4.0 cm, then 5.0 cm and 6.0 cm. That is eighteen C2, one 20-pack (₹188.80) or none if you already hold them, plus stickers to fix the tabs. If a wider spacing reaches the glass and the centre calms, your wick was right all along: buy nothing but the same C2 and write the new spacing into your recipe. If the centre stays hot even at the widest spacing, the pair is too big and the next purchase is one rung down. If the edge still holds wax at the widest spacing with the centre now cool, the pair is too small. Either way, buy a new size only after spacing has failed, and only three candles' worth.
One line: spacing costs candles, not wicks; a new size costs both, so it goes second.
The spacing-ladder order: Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80, only if you don't hold eighteen) and Large Candle Wick Stickers, 40 (₹249.00) or the 10 mm sheet of 40 (₹100.00). All in stock on 1 October 2026. No C1, no Cotton Braided, until the ladder has answered.
Eco C2 20 — ₹188.80

Why edge wax plus a hot centre points to spacing first

Too little power leaves a cool candle with a ring. Too much power makes a hot candle with no ring. You have both, and that is a placement signature.

The worked example: your jar measures 10.0 cm across the inside, about 10.7 cm outside on a 0.35 cm wall. CSI lists no jar at that size; its nearest round listing, the Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid, is "Approx. 10 cm" across the outer rim on its page, which is about 9.3 cm inside on our assumption: a different jar, and its spacings would need recomputing. Yours holds 400 g at 8% British Rose in CSI 464 (32 g + 368 g) on two C2 set 4.0 cm apart. The pool runs deep and hot between the wicks, and a ring of wax stays on the glass.

The geometry says why spacing comes first. A 10 cm pool is 78.54 cm²; two wicks share it at 39.27 cm² each, but only if they are spread across it. At 4.0 cm apart each wick is 3.0 cm from the glass along its own line and 5.39 cm from the wall point on the perpendicular axis. Put the pair closer and two flames feed one hot centre while the far wall waits. A size change alters how much heat each flame makes; spacing alters where it goes. When the symptom is "hot here, cold there", the where is the cheaper question.

How to read the ring before you test (heaviest on the wick line, or on the axis across it) is the 10 cm perimeter-wax post; the full spacing-versus-size diagnosis is the outer-edge diagnosis post. This page owns what the test costs and what each answer lets you buy. One check first: are both wicks straight in the set wax, at the spacing you meant? If they lean together, the fix is a fixture, and the count you need is in the leaning-wicks fixture post.

Mistake: buying two Cotton Braided because "the edge doesn't melt". Why it fails: the centre is already over-heating; a bigger pair at the same tight spacing makes the hot centre hotter, and the ring may still survive on the perpendicular axis. Fix: widen the pair first. Argued against our own interest: two Cotton Braided cost ₹5.12 more per candle than two C2, a sale we would rather not make on a placement fault.

The spacing-ladder bill

Nine candles, one wick, three positions. The only thing on the order that is new is the sticker pack.

New items: ₹437.80 with Large stickers, ₹288.80 with the 10 mm sheet. From nothing but your jars: ₹3,494.00. Each candle is ₹109.50 of oil, ₹186.72 of wax, ₹18.88 of wicks and ₹12.45 of stickers: ₹327.56 excluding the jar, labour, freight, packaging and GST, so nine come to ₹2,948.01.

Can you skip the control rung?
You can pour only the two new spacings (six candles, 192 g of oil from two 100 g bottles, ₹684.40, leaving 8 g; 2,208 g of wax from three bags, ₹1,522.20, leaving 792 g): ₹1,965.34 in materials. We would keep the control. Your existing candles came from another pour, perhaps another week; three fresh ones at 4.0 cm tell you whether today's batch even shows the problem.

Compare that with buying a size ladder instead: a C1 20-pack and a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹238.00), two new SKUs, and six more candles (₹1,959.46 in materials) that leave the placement question unanswered. Same bench time, more stock, a weaker answer. Testing spacing and size together in one 2 × 2 order has its place when time is short; that design and its bill are the 10 cm two-wick 2 × 2 post.

Don't buy the 500 g of rose for the test: it is cheaper per gram (₹3.19) but ₹566.40 more than three 100 g bottles today, and after nine candles it leaves 212 g: oil for 6 more candles you have not designed yet. Argued against our own interest: buy it when the ladder has given you a spacing worth producing.

Setting three spacings without a new fixture

A ladder of spacings is only as good as the ruler you set it with.

CSI's Steel Wick Holder is the obvious fixture, but not for this test. Its page says it fits jars "up to 9 cm wide", and a 10 cm inside jar is about 10.7 cm across the outside. Its three holes are in a line and the text we captured states no hole spacing, so even in a narrower jar it would give you one spacing, not three. For a test, a paper template and two sticks are better.

1
Make a template per rungCut a paper disc the size of the jar's inside base, draw a diameter, and mark two points at 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 cm apart, centred. Label the jars 4-a to 6-c.
2
Stick the tabs through the templateA sticker on each tab, pressed down on the marks; check the centre-to-centre distance with a ruler before removing the paper.
3
Fix the tops at the same spacingTwo lolly sticks or pegs taped across the rim, notched at the same distance. The top spacing must equal the base spacing, or the wicks lean.
4
Pour all nine from one melt3,312 g of CSI 464 and 288 g of British Rose, mixed once. The wax page states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside the 10% ceiling either way. Leave the fixings on until the wax holds the wicks.
5
Measure before lightingCentre to centre and each wick to the glass at the set surface. A rung that set at the wrong spacing is a wasted rung; re-pour it rather than guess.
6
Burn in standard sessions3–4 hours (a very rough hour-per-2.5 cm guide puts a 10 cm first burn near 4.0 hours), still air, trimmed to about 5–6 mm, within sight. Log edge reach at four points, centre depth, flame height and how close each flame sits to the glass, by eye, never by touch.

The method of reading a spacing ladder, including when spacing alone has done enough, is the spacing-alone post. Here the point is the bill: nine candles and one sticker pack buy that answer.

What each result tells you to buy

Four readings. Only two of them put a new wick on the order, and neither puts on a production pack.
Spacing-ladder outcome → purchase · three candles per rung · our judgement, labelled
Judge at burn 3 to screen, at full life to approve · wicks fixed straight at every rung
What the ladder shows Reading What to buy
A wider rung reaches the glass by burn 3 and the centre calms, through full life Placement was the fault; the C2 pair is right Nothing new: the same C2 at the new spacing, plus production fixtures
Wider rungs reach the glass but the centre stays deep and hot at every spacing The pair makes too much heat for this jar Three candles of two C1 (₹11.80 a candle, a C1 20-pack ₹118.00) at the best spacing
The widest rung's centre is calm but the ring remains, worst on the perpendicular axis The pair is too small for the far wall, or the jar wants a third wick Three candles of a stronger pair (two Cotton Braided, ₹24.00 a candle) or a three-wick layout; ask us first
No rung behaves like the others predict; candles in one rung disagree Fixing, draught or pour noise Nothing: re-pour the noisy rung and check the room

Notice what the second and third rows buy: three candles of one rung, from the smallest in-stock pack. The ladder told you which direction to go, so a full size ladder is no longer needed. And the third row has an honest limit. Above two Cotton Braided, CSI has no larger tabbed wick; a three-wick layout or another construction is the next step, and both are questions worth sending us before you spend.

Don't buy yet: the order of the rungs matters. If the 5.0 cm rung passes, don't buy a C1 pack "in case" the 6.0 cm rung fails: you already have your answer, and 6.0 cm only tells you how much margin you have. Argued against our own interest: a passing spacing rung ends the wick purchase on this page.

When a new size is finally justified

The rule fits on a label: buy a new size only after spacing fails.

"Fails" needs a definition, or the rule leaks. Ours, labelled judgement: spacing has failed when all three candles at the widest spacing you are prepared to use, wicks verified straight at the set surface, still show the same fault through burn 3 under standard sessions. How wide is "prepared to use" depends on how close you will let a flame sit to the glass; at 6.0 cm apart the pair here is 2.0 cm from it along the line. Heat at the wall is a burn observation, judged by eye or with a non-contact thermometer (CSI lists none), never by touch.

When it has failed, buy one rung, three candles, at the best spacing the ladder found. The per-candle wick money is small either way: down to two C1 saves ₹7.08 a candle; up to two Cotton Braided adds ₹5.12. Neither difference should drive the choice; the ladder already has. If one step is too far in both directions (two C1 too cold, two C2 too hot), CSI has no sized wick in between, and the honest options are in the gap-filling post or a message to us.

From the winning spacing to production

When spacing wins, the wick order doesn't change. The recipe does.

Write the spacing into the approved configuration (jar, wax, oil, load, wick, spacing) and treat it like any other variable: a candle poured at 4.0 cm is not the approved product if 5.0 cm is. Then size the wick order with the series formula, wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance). At 200 candles a month and a 5% allowance: 420 C2, ₹3,964.80 at the flat ₹9.44, covered by four 100-packs and one 20-pack (₹3,964.80). No pack is cheaper per wick, so stop at the number.

Fixing costs move to production too. Two stickers a candle is ₹5.00 with the 10 mm sheet (₹1,000.00 a month at 200 candles) or ₹12.45 with Large stickers (₹2,490.00); over a month that gap is ₹1,490.00, worth testing the cheaper sheet on your tabs. Holding a custom spacing on a production line, and which fixture does it best, is the spacing-to-purchase-spec post.

Reorder point, worked example: about 14 C2 a day; with a 10-day order-to-bench time and a week of safety stock, reorder at about 238. CSI dispatches from Pune and publishes no lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp before a festive run; Diwali is 8 November 2026.

Don't change two things at once in production: if the ladder approved 5.0 cm on C2, don't also switch to the cheaper sticker on the same run without three check candles. The sticker is not the wick, but a tab that slides changes the spacing you just paid to learn.

What to buy, and what to skip

Four items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance or spacing data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 32 g per 400 g candle and the standard 12 g per 150 g candle.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thick (C2)
The wick you already burn, and the only wick this ladder needs. Every rung uses two C2, so if you hold eighteen there is nothing to buy. If not, the 20-pack (₹188.80) covers all nine candles with 2 spare; the 10-pack covers one rung. The page states no length, width or jar range in the text we captured, so the spacing that works is a property of your jar, not the wick. Per wick it is ₹9.44 in every pack. Limitation: CSI has no sized wick between C1 and C2 or between C2 and Cotton Braided; if spacing fails, the size steps are coarse.

Spacing only means something if the tabs stay where you mark them. The listing is titled "(40 wick stickers x 2mm)" while its text says "20mm Candle Wick Round Stickers" and "the 10mm diameter": three different figures, so check the size on arrival. A larger pad can help with a wide tab. Argued against our own interest: the Candle Wick Stickers sheet of 40 is ₹100.00 (₹2.50 each, "10mm" on its page), ₹149.00 less for the same count; for Eco tabs we would try the cheaper sheet first.

The CSI principle
Buy a new size only after spacing fails.
Spacing costs candles; a new size costs candles and a new SKU. Nine candles on the wick you own answer the cheaper question first.
"Hot in the middle and cold at the glass is a map, not a measurement of power. Move the flames before you change them."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, stickers, oil and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that the test needs no new wick, that our cheaper sticker sheet may do the job, that our Steel Wick Holder does not suit this jar or this test, and that we list no 10 cm-inside jar.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the 100-sticker sheet and the Eco C1 10-pack are out of stock on that date and are flagged wherever they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent or contradictory in the text we captured, we say so.

The 10.0 cm jar, the 400 g fill, the three spacings, the outcome readings, the failure definition, the allowances and the production figures are our judgement or worked examples; distances are geometry (r − s/2 along the wick line, √(r² + (s/2)²) to the perpendicular wall point), not burn predictions. Frequently asked questions

Why is my double wick candle hot in the middle but not melting at the edges?
Commonly because the two wicks are too close together: their heat meets in the centre and the glass is left out. It can also mean the wicks lean together as the wax sets. Check the spacing on an unburned candle, then test wider spacings before changing the wick size.
How far apart should two wicks be in a 10 cm candle?
There is no single right figure: it depends on the wicks, wax, oil and load. Test a ladder, for example 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 cm apart, three candles each. Along the wick line that puts each wick 3.0, 2.5 and 2.0 cm from the glass in a 10 cm inside jar.
Should I change wick spacing or wick size first?
Spacing. It uses the wicks you already have, so it needs candles but no new wick size. Change the size only if straight wicks at the widest spacing you will use still over-heat the centre or still leave the edge.
How many wicks do I need for a wick spacing test?
Two per candle, three candles per spacing. Three spacings need eighteen wicks; CSI's Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80) covers it with two spare.
Which wick stickers should I use for double wick candles?
Any sticker that holds your tab firmly where you mark it. CSI's Candle Wick Stickers are ₹100.00 for 40 ("10mm" on the page); the Large Candle Wick Stickers are ₹249.00 for 40, with a listing that gives three different sizes. Try the cheaper sheet first on small tabs.
Can I use a steel wick holder for a 10 cm jar?
CSI's Steel Wick Holder page says it fits jars up to 9 cm wide, so it is not meant for a 10 cm jar, and its hole spacing isn't stated. For a spacing test, a paper template, stickers and two taped sticks let you set any spacing.
Edge wax, hot centre, two wicks
One C2 20-pack and a sticker pack test three spacings. No new wick size.
Pour the same pair at today's spacing and two wider ones, three candles each, from one melt. Approve the spacing that reaches the glass with a calm centre through the full life, and buy a new size only if every spacing fails. Send us your jar and spacing on WhatsApp and we will check the order.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on tunnelling, flame, soot and melt-pool symptoms and what they justify buying (5541–5560). It owns the spacing-ladder test bill for a double-wick candle that leaves edge wax while the centre runs hot: the same pair at three spacings with no new wick SKU, the counts, packs and rupees, how to set custom spacings, outcome readings, and the rule that a new size is bought only after spacing fails.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (400 g at 8% = 32 g oil + 368 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 10.0 cm inside diameter, the 0.35 cm wall, the 400 g fill and the 4.0/5.0/6.0 cm spacings are labelled worked-example inputs; pool area = π r² on the inside radius (78.54 cm², 39.27 cm² per wick for two); wick-to-wall = r − s/2 along the wick line and √(r² + (s/2)²) to the perpendicular wall point. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; British Rose up to 10% for soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Session length and hour-per-width are commonly cited rules of thumb. The failure definition, outcome readings, 5% allowance, 200-candle month and lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 and Valentine's Day 14 February 2027 are calendar facts.
