C1 20 + C2 10 + Cotton Braided 10: the bounding wick order for two reference oils · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should my heaviest fragrance be the reference for the wicks I stock? For the top of the range, yes: it tells you whether Cotton Braided (CSI's largest tabbed wick) has to be in your stock at all. For the bottom of the range and for quantities, no. Use a second reference, your lightest oil, to set the floor, and stock each rung only for the oils that passed full life on it.

What do I buy to find the bounds? Twelve 150 g candles in your jar: Dark Vanilla Oud on C2 and Cotton Braided, Eucalyptus Spearmint on C1 and C2, three each. Wicks: C1 20 (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock), C2 10 (₹94.40), Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00): ₹332.40. With 100 g of each oil and 2 kg of CSI 464, ₹2,291.20 before your jars.

Why not stock everything on the wick that works for the heaviest oil? Because a light oil on a heavy oil's wick commonly runs too hot, fails, and moves down a rung, leaving you holding Cotton Braided you bought for it. In the worked example, a heavy-only first order costs ₹8,501.60 against ₹4,541.60 bounded, with ₹4,020.00 of Cotton Braided beyond what the range uses.

How many of each wick should I stock? Sales of the oils approved on that rung × (1 + allowance), plus safety stock. Worked example: 300 candles a month gives 132 C1, 88 C2 and 110 Cotton Braided a month. Bigger packs save nothing per wick on any of the three.
The short answer
Heavy reference: sets the top rung you must be able to stock (here Cotton Braided), and tells you whether pairs are on the table. It does not set quantities.
Light reference: sets the bottom rung (here C1) and tells you whether C1 belongs in stock at all. Skip it and you may never stock CSI's cheapest wick for the oils that want it.
Buy to bound: C1 20 + C2 10 + Cotton Braided 10 = ₹332.40; twelve candles, three per rung per reference, approved only on full life.
Stock: per rung = approved oils' monthly candles × 1.10, plus half a month of safety (worked example). Never size a rung from the heavy oil alone.
Two references set the range; the sales mix sets the stock Worked example: your jar, 7.5 cm inside, 150 g candles at 8% in CSI 464, 300 candles a month across six oils. Rung outcomes are a labelled example of full-life results, not predictions. Bars to scale: 2.4 px per candle a month. Same price per wick in every pack. CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. Excludes oil, wax, jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Worked example, not CSI burn data.
Top: the six-oil range of the worked example placed on CSI's tabbed rungs after full-life approval, each bar drawn to scale in candles a month. Dark Vanilla Oud fixes the ceiling at Cotton Braided; Eucalyptus Spearmint fixes the floor at C1; the sales mix, not the references, sets how many of each to hold. Bottom: the first stocking order both ways. Buying on the heavy oil alone puts a Cotton Braided 500-pack on the shelf before the light oils have failed on it.
Straight answer
Should I use my most difficult heavy fragrance as the reference when selecting the range of wicks I keep in inventory?
Use it for one job: setting the top of your wick range. Your heaviest, most demanding oil (in the worked example, Dark Vanilla Oud) decides whether you must be able to stock Cotton Braided, CSI's largest tabbed wick, or even pairs. It cannot tell you the bottom of the range: that needs a second reference, your lightest burner (Eucalyptus Spearmint here), tested on the rungs below. And neither reference sets quantities: each rung is stocked for the monthly sales of the oils that passed full life on it, plus an allowance and safety stock. The mistake the title invites is using the heavy oil's wick as the house wick for everything. Light oils on a heavy oil's wick commonly run too hot, fail and move down a rung, and the Cotton Braided bought for them sits on your shelf: in the worked example, ₹4,020.00 of it beyond what the range uses. Bound with two references (twelve candles, ₹332.40 of wicks), approve on full life, then stock by sales mix.
One line: the heavy oil picks the ceiling, the light oil picks the floor, and the sales mix picks the numbers.
The bounding wick order: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026), Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) and Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00). Every pack named is in stock on 1 October 2026. No 100s until a rung has an approved oil.
Cotton Braided — ₹120.00 for 10

The bounding order, line by line

Two oils, two rungs each, three candles a rung: twelve candles to learn the shape of the range.

The worked example is your own jar at 7.5 cm across the inside, filled to 150 g at 8% (CSI's convention: load as a share of total candle weight, so 12 g of oil + 138 g of wax). CSI does not sell a jar at that width that you can buy today: the three listings that state 7.5 cm (two bamboo-lid glass jars and a ceramic container) are out of stock on 1 October 2026, and the nearest in-stock glass, the 150 g Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid, is about 7 cm across the outside. Measure yours: a 7.5 cm inside diameter is 44.18 cm² of pool; if 7.5 cm is the outside of a 0.35 cm wall (our labelled assumption) it is 6.8 cm inside and 36.32 cm².

Your 7.5 cm jars 12 your supplier yours — —

From nothing, that is ₹2,291.20 in cash plus your jars; the twelve candles consume ₹1,630.27 of materials (each candle: ₹70.80 or ₹42.48 of oil, ₹70.02 of wax, and the wick). Note what is not here: no 100-packs, no second jar size, no ladder for the four oils in the middle. Their confirmation counts are the reference-first post; this page only needs the two ends.

The 28 g you have left is not a re-pour
Each 100 g bottle leaves 28 g after six candles: two more candles, not the three a split cell needs. If you want a three-candle re-pour of the heavy reference in hand, add the 15 g Dark Vanilla Oud (₹105.02); 115 g leaves 43 g. Or wait for burn 3 and buy only if a cell splits.

Why C2 appears on both sides: it is the overlap rung. If Dark Vanilla Oud passes on C2, your ceiling is lower than you feared and Cotton Braided may not belong in stock at all. If Eucalyptus Spearmint passes on C2 and runs hot on nothing, the floor is C2 and C1 stays out of the bin. Testing the shared rung from both ends is what turns two references into a range rather than two isolated answers.

What each reference can and cannot tell you

A ceiling without a floor is how a wick bin fills with the wrong wick.

"Most difficult" is not always "heaviest". Rank your range on paper first: oud, resinous woods, dark gourmands and high-vanillin oils are the families commonly linked to wanting a wick step up or carbon on the wick; fresh herbals, citrus and soft florals commonly burn more easily. Add the load each oil runs at (a higher load can make a flame smaller or sootier) and your own burn notes. That ranking is a tendency, not data: CSI publishes no wick-performance figures for any oil. How to build the paper ranking from page data is the 12-fragrance pre-screen post; choosing representative oils for a test budget is the commercial test-count post.

Two references · what each one settles for your stock
Our judgement, labelled · CSI rungs only: C1, C2, Cotton Braided, then pairs
Question for your inventory Heavy reference (Dark Vanilla Oud) Light reference (Eucalyptus Spearmint)
Must Cotton Braided be in stock? Yes, if it fails on C2 and passes on Cotton Braided Says nothing
Are pairs (2 × C1 or 2 × C2) on the table? Only if it still tunnels on Cotton Braided Says nothing
Must C1 be in stock? Says nothing (it will not pass on C1 if it needs Cotton Braided) Yes, if C1 passes and C2 runs hot
How many of each wick? No: one oil's sales No: one oil's sales
Which wick does Rose or Lavender get? No No: oils between the bounds need their own confirm candles

In the worked example the twelve candles come back like this (a labelled example of full-life results, not a forecast for your jar): Dark Vanilla Oud tunnels on C2 and passes on Cotton Braided; Eucalyptus Spearmint passes on C1 and runs a big, fast pool on C2. The range is now bounded at C1 and Cotton Braided, with three tabbed rungs to hold. The four oils in between (Lavender, British Rose, Jasmine, Woody Oud) each get confirm candles on the rung their paper rank suggests and its neighbour, which is the staged-waves post and reference-first territory.

Mistake: bounding with the heavy oil only, then declaring Cotton Braided the "safe" house wick because it is the one that did not tunnel. Why it fails: a wick that is big enough for the hardest oil is commonly too big for the easiest. A 7.5 cm jar sits below the "exceeding 8 cm" that Cotton Braided's own page describes; on a light herbal it can mean a tall flame, a deep pool and a hot jar in the final third. Fix: always pair the heavy reference with a light one. Over-wicked light oils are a safety issue first; the stock problem comes second.

At 7.5 cm, a very rough rule of thumb (about an hour per 2.5 cm of width) puts a full first pool at about 3.0 hours, so test sessions of about three hours. A 7.5 cm inside jar has 42% more pool surface than the 6.3 cm inside of CSI's 7 cm glass on our wall assumption: one reason a range that lived happily on C1 and C2 in 7 cm jars may suddenly need its top rung at 7.5.

When the heavy oil fails even on Cotton Braided
CSI lists nothing tabbed above Cotton Braided. Your options are a pair of smaller wicks (test 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 from the packs above: three candles each needs six more of each, so a second C2 10-pack), a lower load inside the page's 6–10%, or a different oil. Each changes stock differently: pairs double the wicks per candle. Tell us on WhatsApp before you buy more.

From bounds to quantities: weight by sales mix

The heavy oil decides that Cotton Braided is in the bin. Your customers decide how full the bin is.

Once every oil has an approved rung, the quantity per rung is arithmetic: wicks a month = candles a month of the oils approved on that rung × (1 + allowance). The allowance covers rejects, retests and a small test reserve; 10% is our labelled judgement for a range that is still settling. The stock target here is one month of use plus half a month of safety stock, also judgement: your own lead time sets the real figure.

Stock by sales mix · worked example: 300 candles a month, six oils
Wicks a month = candles × 1.10 · target = 1.5 months · flat per-wick prices · all figures declared
Rung Approved oils (candles a month) Wicks a month Spend a month Stock target Target value
Eco C1 (floor) Eucalyptus Spearmint 40 · Lavender 80 132 ₹778.80 198 ₹1,168.20
Eco C2 British Rose 50 · Jasmine 30 88 ₹830.72 132 ₹1,246.08
Cotton Braided (ceiling) Woody Oud 40 · Dark Vanilla Oud 60 110 ₹1,320.00 165 ₹1,980.00
All three 300 candles 330 ₹2,929.52 495 ₹4,394.28

Two things fall out. First, the ceiling rung is a minority of units but not of money: Cotton Braided is 33.3% of the wicks and 45.1% of the wick spend, because it is the dearest per wick. Second, the floor matters more than people expect: in this mix C1 carries 120 of 300 candles, at ₹5.90 a wick, the cheapest tabbed wick CSI sells. A heavy-only reference would never have put it in the bin. The full sales-mix split, with packs per size, is the two-wick quantity post; reorder points per size are the reorder-point post.

For scale: if every one of the 300 candles ran on Cotton Braided (only possible if every oil passed full life on it, which a light oil in a 7.5 cm jar commonly does not), the month would cost ₹3,960.00 in wicks, ₹1,030.48 more than the bounded split. That is not the expensive part, though. The expensive part is the stock you buy before you know.

Why a heavy-only reference overstocks Cotton Braided

We would happily sell you a Cotton Braided 500-pack on the strength of one oud candle. Please don't let us.

The overstock happens in a particular order. You test the hardest oil, it passes on Cotton Braided, you size stock for the whole range on Cotton Braided (495 wicks: 300 candles × 1.10 × 1.5), and the natural pack is the 500 (₹6,000.00). Then the light and middle oils are confirmed on it, run too hot, and move down to C1 and C2, which you now buy as well. Cotton Braided use falls to 110 a month and the 500-pack becomes 4.5 months of stock.

Bounded: heavy + light references C1 2 × 100 (₹1,180.00); C2 100 + 20 + 20 (₹1,321.60); Cotton Braided 100 + 50 + 10 + 10 (₹2,040.00) nothing ₹4,541.60 a few wicks of pack rounding
Heavy-only reference Cotton Braided 500 (₹6,000.00) C1 ₹1,180.00 + C2 ₹1,321.60 when the light oils fail ₹8,501.60 335 Cotton Braided = ₹4,020.00
Light-only reference C1 500 (₹2,950.00) Cotton Braided bought in a rush when the oud tunnels stock-out first, then more 302 C1 = ₹1,781.80, about 3.8 months

The heavy-only path costs ₹3,960.00 more in total, and most of it sits in Cotton Braided you will use slowly. The light-only path is cheaper in rupees but worse in practice: the heavy oils have no approved wick in the building, so production of your dearest candles stops while you order. The light reference costs six extra candles, against either mistake.

Don't buy the big pack: not the Cotton Braided 500 (₹6,000.00), not on one oil's result. It is ₹12.00 a wick, exactly what the 10-pack costs per wick, so the 500 buys you nothing but exposure. Argued against our own interest: your first Cotton Braided purchase is the 10-pack for three test candles; your first stocking order is sized from the oils that passed on it, here 100 + 50 + 10 + 10.

Overstock is not only cash. Wicks are cheap and keep, so the risk is less spoilage than drift: a jar batch, a wax or a load changes, the approval behind those 335 spare wicks lapses, and they become test stock. What to do with a surplus of a larger wick when you wick a product down is the transition-stock post; whether a low-volume oil could share a neighbour's rung instead of holding one is the wick-sharing post.

The stocking gate: no rung without a full-life pass

A rung earns a place in stock when an oil has burned to the bottom on it. Not before.

The order of operations below turns the twelve bounding candles into a stocked range. Each step either releases money or holds it.

1
Rank the range on paperPick the heaviest and lightest by family, notes, load and your own burn history. Note it as a ranking, not a result.
2
Pour the twelve togetherSame wax bag, same jar batch, same day: 1,656 g of CSI 464, 72 g of each reference oil, wicks centred. CSI 464's page states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; if your jar states a lower hot-pour limit, the lower figure governs.
3
Cure, then screen at burn 3Eucalyptus Spearmint's page says "Cure time is 48-72 hours for soy wax"; many makers wait about a week before judging. Burn about three-hour sessions in still air; drop any cell whose three candles all fail.
4
Approve the bounds on full lifeBurn the leading cell of each reference to about 1 cm left. The ceiling is set only when all three heavy candles pass; the floor only when all three light candles pass. How deep a test candle must go is the acceptance-depth post.
5
Confirm the middle oilsEach in-between oil on its likely rung and one neighbour, to the same standard. Spare wicks from the bounding packs (17 C1, 4 C2, 7 Cotton Braided) start this stage without a new order.
6
Stock by sales mix, then reorder on a formulaTargets per rung from the table above; a reorder point per rung = daily use × your lead time + safety stock. Worked example: Cotton Braided at 3.7 a day, a 14-day lead time and 55 in safety gives a reorder point of 106. CSI does not publish lead times or stock depth: confirm dispatch on WhatsApp.

Approval is per configuration: jar, wax, oil, load and wick. Change the jar batch, the wax or an oil's load and the bounds are re-run for the oils affected, not assumed; behaviour groups as a standing house rule are the behaviour-groups post. The cluster's five-oil purchase plan, which this page extends to a stocked range, is the cluster hub.

Don't buy yet: the C1 and C2 100-packs before the floor is approved. If Eucalyptus Spearmint runs hot on C1 too (possible in a jar this size), your floor is C2 and C1 never enters stock. Argued against our own interest: the bounding packs (₹332.40) are the whole wick order until both bounds have a full-life pass; flat per-wick pricing means waiting costs you nothing per wick.

What to buy, and what to skip

Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 12 g per 150 g candle.

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
The top tabbed rung CSI lists, and the one your heaviest oil decides whether you must stock. The page says it is "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" and gives "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm"; a 7.5 cm jar sits below that line, which is why only the heavy oils should be expected to need it, and why it is tested rather than assumed. It is ₹12.00 a wick in every pack. Limitation: nothing tabbed sits above it, so if your heavy reference still tunnels on Cotton Braided, the next move is a pair of smaller wicks or a lower load, not a bigger single. Argued against our own interest: stock it for the oils that passed on it, not for the whole range.

The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside 10% on either reading. Flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg, so the 10 kg is not cheaper per gram than the 1 kg.

Skip for bounding: Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): one listing with no widths, so it cannot bound anything; a wooden range is its own test. The cut-to-length Braided Wick Roll (₹706.82) and Eco Braided Wicks (₹472.00 for 5 m): unsized, worth a look only if a bound falls between CSI rungs. The Steel Wick Holder (₹250.00 for 5): only if the heavy reference forces pairs.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. Bounding candles poured this week can be screened by mid-October; full-life approval takes the weeks after. Stock rungs as their oils pass, and send us the approved split: we will quote the packs with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
The heavy oil sets the ceiling. The light oil sets the floor. Your sales set the stock.
Twelve candles and ₹332.40 of wicks bound a range on CSI's three tabbed rungs. Size each rung from the oils approved on it, never from the hardest oil alone.
"Stock the wick your hardest fragrance needs, in the quantity your easiest fragrances don't."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oils and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you not to buy our Cotton Braided 500-pack on one oil's result, that bigger packs save nothing per wick on C1, C2 or Cotton Braided, and that we list no in-stock jar at 7.5 cm.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The heavy and light rankings, the full-life outcomes in the example, the six-oil sales mix, the 10% allowance, the 1.5-month stock target, the 14-day lead time and the 0.35 cm wall are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. Frequently asked questions

Should I test wicks with my strongest fragrance first?
Test it first for the top of your range: it shows whether you need Cotton Braided or pairs in stock. Test your lightest oil alongside it for the bottom. Neither result tells you the wick for the oils in between, which need their own confirm candles.
Can I use one wick size for all my candle fragrances?
Only if every fragrance passes full life on it. A wick big enough for a heavy oud or vanilla commonly runs too hot with a light herbal or citrus in the same jar, so most ranges end up on two or three rungs.
How many wicks of each size should I keep in stock?
Monthly candles of the fragrances approved on that size × (1 + allowance), plus safety stock for your lead time. Worked example: 120, 80 and 100 candles a month on C1, C2 and Cotton Braided give 132, 88 and 110 wicks a month at a 10% allowance.
Are Cotton Braided wicks cheaper in a 500 pack?
No. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made cost ₹12.00 a wick in the 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 packs. A bigger pack raises your cash outlay, not your saving.
What is the heaviest fragrance for wick testing?
There is no single answer, and CSI publishes no wick data per oil. Oud, resinous woods, dark gourmands and vanillin-rich oils are commonly the hardest to wick; rank your own range by family, notes, load and burn history, then confirm with candles.
Do I need C1 wicks if my candles mostly use C2?
Only if a light fragrance passes full life on C1 and runs hot on C2 in your jar. Your lightest oil tested on C1 and C2 settles it: if it passes on C2, C1 never enters stock.
Bound your wick range before you stock it
Twelve candles, two references, ₹332.40 of wicks.
Test your heaviest oil on C2 and Cotton Braided and your lightest on C1 and C2, three candles each. Approve on full life, confirm the middle oils, then stock each rung by the sales of the oils that passed on it. Send us your range on WhatsApp and we will check the order.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing the wick (5521–5540): whether the heaviest fragrance should be the reference for the wick range you stock, the two-reference bounding order (heavy oil on C2 and Cotton Braided, light oil on C1 and C2), what each reference settles, stock per rung weighted by sales mix, why a heavy-only reference tends to overstock Cotton Braided, and the gate from bounds to a stocked range.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — British Rose Fragrance Oil, Dark Vanilla Oud, Eco Candle Wicks, Jasmine Fragrance Oil, Lavender Fragrance Oil, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 7.5 cm inside diameter (44.18 cm² of pool) and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%; Dark Vanilla Oud 6–10% for candles; Eucalyptus Spearmint up to 10% for soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. The melt-pool time (about an hour per 2.5 cm) is a commonly cited rule of thumb. The oil rankings, rung outcomes, sales mix, 10% allowance, 1.5-month target and lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
