Commercial Fragrance · Calculator
This is a calculator you read rather than type into. Seven tables cover the look-ups a buyer needs for any production order, from grams per candle to rupees per candle, and three worked examples show how to chain them. Print it, pin it above the melter, or bookmark it.
7 tables
oil per candle · kg to order · wax to order · pack rounding · cost per candle · 12-oil quick sheet · fixed costs · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I use this calculator? Find your oil per candle in Table A (size × load). Take that column into Table B for kilos to order at your candle count. Round to packs with Table D. Check cost with Tables E and F. Examples at the end chain all four.

What is the formula behind it? Oil to order = candles × candle weight × load × (1 + allowance). Load is a share of the finished candle weight; the allowance is 5% in these tables (a working assumption). How to Calculate Bulk Fragrance Oil Requirements for Candle Manufacturing explains every step.

Does it work for wax too? Yes. Table C gives wax to order for 100–250 g candles at 8%, with the same 5% allowance. Starting from a quantity of wax instead? Oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L); see example 3.

Why no interactive calculator? Because a table you can print and check by eye is more useful at the bench, and every figure here is visible and verifiable. Send us your numbers on WhatsApp and we will run them for you.
The short answer
Formula: Oil (g) = N × W × L × (1 + a). CSI's defaults: W = 200 g, L = 8% of the finished candle, a = 5%.
Rule of thumb: 16.8 g of oil per 200 g candle at 8% with 5%: 1.68 kg per 100 candles, 16.8 kg per 1,000.
Rounding: Most oils are flat from 100 g; some save at 1 kg; two are cheaper at 500 g. Where the 1 kg starts to pay maps the crossover.

Reading the calculator: four look-ups for one order Table A oil per candle 150 g at 7% → 10.5 g Table B kg to order (+5%) 600 candles × 10.5 g → 6.615 kg Table D round to packs Juicy Orange · flat → 6 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g Table E / F cost check 10.5 g × ₹7.50/g → ₹78.74 a candle Example 1 below: 600 × 150 g candles at 7% in Juicy Orange, 5% allowance. Every table is plain arithmetic on CSI listed prices, pulled 24 September 2026.
Each look-up hands one number to the next. The same chain works for any candle size, load and count in the tables; for values between rows, the arithmetic is linear, so you can add two rows (for example 250 + 500 candles) or scale one (double the 500-candle row for 1,000).
Straight answer
How do I calculate how much fragrance oil to buy for candle manufacturing?
With one formula and four look-ups. Oil to order = candles × candle weight × load × (1 + allowance), where load is the oil's share of the finished candle weight (CSI's convention) and the allowance of 3–5% covers pour loss and confirmation pours. The tables on this page do the multiplication for you. Table A gives oil per candle for 50–400 g candles at 6–13%. Table B turns oil per candle and candle count into kilos to order with a 5% allowance. Table D tells you how to round each oil to listed packs, because some oils are cheapest in kilos, most are priced flat from 100 g, and two are cheaper in 500 g bottles. Tables E and F check the cost per candle. For example, 600 candles of 150 g at 7% is 10.5 g each (Table A), 6.615 kg to order (Table B, or 600 × 10.5 × 1.05), which in Juicy Orange is 6 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g for ₹49,618.00. A full four-scent example with wax, wicks and jars comes to ₹3,45,318.00 for 1,200 candles.
One line: Table A for grams per candle, Table B for kilos, Table D for bottles, Tables E–F for rupees.
Worked example 2 on this page is a 1,200-candle order in four scents at 200 g and 8%, led by 400 candles of Autumn. Read straight off the tables and rounded to listed packs, the oil comes to ₹1,14,103.00 and the full material bill to ₹3,45,318.00.

The formula, and how to read the tables

Everything below is one line of arithmetic, laid out so you never have to do it twice.

Oil to order (g) = N × W × L × (1 + a). N is the number of candles of one size and scent. W is the finished candle weight in grams — weigh a finished candle, do not use the jar's stated capacity. L is the fragrance load as a share of the finished candle: a 200 g candle at 8% holds 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. a is the allowance for loss, 5% in these tables; it is a working assumption that most makers can tighten to 3% once their own batch records show it.

If your recipe states load against the wax rather than the finished candle, convert it before you use the tables: L(candle) = L(wax) ÷ (1 + L(wax)). So "8% of the wax" is 7.41% of the candle. Fragrance Oil Required for 100 Kg of Candle Wax explains the two conventions with 100 kg of wax as the example, and How to Calculate Bulk Fragrance Oil Requirements for Candle Manufacturing derives every step of the formula.

Keep inside the wax's rating
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% fragrance load and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%, the wax maker's stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. Table A runs to 13% so that it covers the Chunks' ceiling; it is not a recommendation to pour there. Each oil's IFRA limit is on its product page or IFRA certificate, available on WhatsApp.

Tables A and B: oil

Table A · grams of fragrance oil per candle = candle weight × load · load as a share of the finished candle
Table A — oil per candle (g)
Candle weight 6% 7% 8% 9% 10% 12% 13%
50 g 3 3.5 4 4.5 5 6 6.5
100 g 6 7 8 9 10 12 13
150 g 9 10.5 12 13.5 15 18 19.5
200 g 12 14 16 18 20 24 26
250 g 15 17.5 20 22.5 25 30 32.5
300 g 18 21 24 27 30 36 39
400 g 24 28 32 36 40 48 52

Find your candle weight down the side and your load across the top. For in-between weights, add rows: a 350 g candle at 8% is the 150 g value plus the 200 g value, 12 + 16 = 28 g. For in-between loads, the numbers are linear too: 7.5% is halfway between the 7% and 8% columns.

Table B · kilograms of oil to order = candles × oil per candle × 1.05 · the 5% allowance is a working assumption
Table B — kilos to order, with a 5% allowance
Candles 8 g 10 g 12 g 14 g 16 g 20 g 25 g
50 0.42 0.53 0.63 0.73 0.84 1.05 1.31
100 0.84 1.05 1.26 1.47 1.68 2.10 2.62
250 2.10 2.62 3.15 3.67 4.20 5.25 6.56
500 4.20 5.25 6.30 7.35 8.40 10.50 13.12
1,000 8.40 10.50 12.60 14.70 16.80 21.00 26.25
2,500 21.00 26.25 31.50 36.75 42.00 52.50 65.62
5,000 42.00 52.50 63.00 73.50 84.00 105.00 131.25

Take the oil-per-candle figure from Table A into the matching column of Table B. The 16 g column is the 200 g candle at 8%; 12 g is the 150 g candle at 8% or the 200 g candle at 6%; 20 g is the 250 g candle at 8% or the 200 g candle at 10%. For counts between rows, add rows: 750 candles is the 250 row plus the 500 row. For a range with several sizes, look each size up separately and add the kilos per scent before you round. For no allowance, divide by 1.05; for 3%, multiply the no-allowance figure by 1.03.

Reading the wrong column. The commonest calculator mistake is taking the candle weight into Table B instead of the oil per candle. A 200 g candle is the 16 g column at 8%, not a 200 g column. Always go through Table A first.

Table C: wax

Table C · kilograms of wax to order at 8% load = candles × candle weight × 0.92 × 1.05
Table C — wax to order (kg), 8% load, 5% allowance
Candles 100 g candle (92 g wax) 150 g (138 g) 200 g (184 g) 250 g (230 g)
50 4.8 7.2 9.7 12.1
100 9.7 14.5 19.3 24.1
250 24.1 36.2 48.3 60.4
500 48.3 72.5 96.6 120.8
1,000 96.6 144.9 193.2 241.5
2,500 241.5 362.2 483.0 603.8
5,000 483.0 724.5 966.0 1,207.5

At other loads, wax per candle is W × (1 − L): a 200 g candle at 10% takes 180 g of wax, at 6% it takes 188 g. The wax order barely moves with load; it is set by candle size and count. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are listed at ₹299.00 for 500 g, ₹599.00 for 1 kg, ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,999.00 for 10 kg — flat per kilo, and two 5 kg bags cost ₹9.00 less than one 10 kg. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹450.00 at 1 kg and ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg, up to a 50 kg bag at ₹21,240.00.

Table D: rounding to packs

The grams are arithmetic. The bottles are a judgement — and the price ladder decides it.

Table D — how to round, by the shape of the oil's price ladder

Kilo saves 5% or more 1 kg per gram at least 5% below 100 g 24 of 91 Kilos (and 500 g bottles where priced at the kilo rate) for the bulk; price the top-up both ways, because a 500 g can beat several 100 g bottles — Citronella's 500 g costs less than two of its 100 g Citronella 62.3%, Honeydew Melon 22.0%, Mango Coconut 20.7%, Verbena 20.0%
500 g cheaper than 1 kg Two 500 g bottles cost less than one kilo 2 oils Build the order from 500 g bottles; do not round to kilos Saffron Cedarwood, Sage and Cedarwood

A size is out of stock "Out of stock" on the product page Check every order Build from the in-stock sizes; ask on WhatsApp for a restock date Vetiver 1 kg, Chocolate Fudge 100 g

Two general rules sit on top of the table. First, round once per scent, after summing all sizes, never per size. Second, prefer fewer bottles when the difference is tiny: throughout this cluster we take the combination with the fewest bottles that costs within 1% of the strictly cheapest. On some flat-priced oils the strictly cheapest cover is dozens of 50 g or 100 g bottles, which saves a few rupees and costs an afternoon. How Much Fragrance Oil Do I Need for 250 Candles? shows exactly where, oil by oil, the kilo becomes the cheapest buy.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more kilos if Table D said "round everything to 1 kg". It says the opposite for most oils: the kilo is a convenience, not a saving, and on two oils it is dearer per gram than the 500 g. Use the kilo where your volume or your handling justifies it, and the smaller packs where they cover the grams more exactly.

Table F uses each oil's lowest per-gram price from 100 g upward, which for Saffron Cedarwood is its 500 g, not its kilo. The spread in the per-candle column — from about ₹45 to about ₹128 across these twelve — is why the scent list moves a production budget more than any other decision. Candle Fragrance Oil Price in India prices the whole catalogue this way.

Add Table G's base to Table E's oil cost for the material cost of one candle. For a 200 g candle at 8%: ₹186.92 + oil. Material cost excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. If you use another jar or wick, replace those two columns with your own prices; the method does not change.

The CSI principle
A calculator you can read is a calculator you can check.
Every table here is visible arithmetic on listed prices. If a number looks wrong for your candles, you can see which input drives it — weight, load, allowance or price — and change that one input rather than trusting a box that hides its workings.

Three worked examples

Example 1 — one size, one scent: 600 × 150 g at 7% in Juicy Orange

1
Table A150 g row, 7% column: 10.5 g of oil per candle.
2
Table B10.5 g is not a column, so calculate directly: 600 × 10.5 × 1.05 = 6,615 g. (Check with Table B: 600 candles is the 500 row plus the 100 row. At 10 g that is 5.25 + 1.05 = 6.30 kg; at 12 g, 6.30 + 1.26 = 7.56 kg. 10.5 g sits a quarter of the way between: 6.615 kg.)
3
Table DJuicy Orange is flat-priced from 100 g (₹7.49 a gram at 100 g, ₹7.50 at 1 kg). Round with kilos and small packs: 6 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g (6,615 g) for ₹49,618.00.
4
Tables E and GOil per candle 10.5 g × ₹7.50 = ₹78.74. Base for a 150 g candle from Table G at 8% is ₹159.36; at 7% the wax is 139.5 g, so the base is ₹160.26 and the material cost ₹239.00 a candle.

Example 2 — four scents, full bill: 1,200 × 200 g at 8%

A 1,200-candle order split Autumn 400, Spicy Raspberry 300, Pomegranate Splash 300 and Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon 200. Table A gives 16 g per candle. Table B's 16 g column gives the 5% order per scent: 400 candles is between the 250 and 500 rows (400 × 16.8 g = 6.72 kg), 300 candles 5.04 kg, 200 candles 3.36 kg. Table D rounds each: Autumn, Spicy Raspberry and Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon are flat-priced; Pomegranate Splash has no 15 g. Table C gives the wax: 1,200 × 184 g × 1.05.

Oil and wax are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026; the Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 and White Matte Glass Jars were verified on 10 September 2026.

Example 3 — starting from a 50 kg bag of wax

You have one 50 kg bag of Natural Soy Pearl Wax (₹21,240.00) and want to scent it all at 8% of the finished candle in Spicy Raspberry. Oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L) = 50,000 × 0.08 ÷ 0.92 = 4,347.8 g; with 5%, 4,565.2 g, covered by 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g for ₹27,594.00. Table C's logic in reverse gives the candles: 50,000 ÷ 184 = 271 candles of 200 g, needing 2 × 100 + 1 × 50 + 3 × 10 wicks (₹1,652.00) and 55 jar packs (₹19,470.00). Total: ₹69,956.00, or ₹258.14 a candle. Natural Soy Pearl Wax has no fragrance ceiling quoted in this series; check its product page before you choose the load.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier's calculator could round every answer up to kilos. This one tells you when not to, names the oils whose kilo is dearer per gram than their 500 g, and works for any supplier's oils.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Tables A, B, C and E are arithmetic; Table D's counts come from the full 93-oil pull; worked-example orders use real in-stock pack combinations (the fewest packs within 1% for oil, 0.5% for wax, of the cheapest). All figures are shown to two decimals.

The 5% allowance, the 8% default load and the example quantities are working assumptions. Your candle weight, load and loss records decide the real figures. For a check of your numbers, stock confirmation, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fragrance oil calculator for candles?
This page is one, in table form: oil per candle (Table A), kilos to order (Table B), wax (Table C), pack rounding (Table D) and cost (Tables E–G). The formula is candles × candle weight × load × (1 + allowance).
How much fragrance oil for 1000 candles of 200 g?
16 kg at 8%, or 16.80 kg with a 5% allowance (Table B, 1,000 row, 16 g column). At 10% it is 21.00 kg with the allowance; at 6%, 12.60 kg.
How do I calculate fragrance oil cost per candle?
Oil per candle × price per gram (Table E). A 200 g candle at 8% holds 16 g, so at ₹6.00 a gram that is ₹96.00 of oil. Add the base from Table G for the material cost.
How much wax for 1000 candles?
For 200 g candles at 8%, 184 kg, or 193.2 kg with 5% (Table C). For 150 g candles, 144.9 kg; for 250 g, 241.5 kg.
Should I round fragrance oil orders to 1 kg bottles?
Only where it makes sense. Table D: most oils are flat from 100 g, so the kilo is a convenience; 24 of 91 oils save 5% or more at 1 kg; Saffron Cedarwood and Sage and Cedarwood are cheaper in 500 g bottles.
What allowance should I add for wastage?
Plan 3–5% for pour loss, top-ups and test burns; the tables use 5%. It is a working assumption: weigh oil in and oil left after each batch and adjust to your real loss.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Oil to order = N × W × L × (1 + a), with L as a share of the finished candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). From wax: oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L). Tables B and C use a 5% allowance, a working assumption. Table D's "no 500 g listed" count covers 13 listings in the pull; ladder shapes compare listed per-gram prices. Table F's per-candle figure uses the oil's lowest per-gram listed size from 100 g up. Worked-example orders are the fewest in-stock packs costing within 1% (oil) or 0.5% (wax) of the strictly cheapest. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Load ceilings of up to 13% (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) and up to 10% (CSI 464) are wax makers' stated maximums, not regulatory limits. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
