At the standard 200 g candle and 8% load, each candle takes 16 g of oil, so 250 candles take 4.00 kg, poured into 46.00 kg of wax. Load is measured as a percentage of the finished candle's weight. Add a working allowance of 3–5% for oil left in the jug, top-ups and a confirmation pour, and the order becomes 4.12 kg–4.20 kg. Smaller candles need less in a straight line: 250 × 150 g candles at 8% need 3.00 kg; 250 × 100 g need 2.00 kg. At this quantity the kilo bottle comes into the conversation for the first time, because a single scent can easily need more than 1 kg. Whether the kilo is actually cheaper depends on the oil. Candles per kilo, and kilos for 250

At 250 candles the useful question flips. Stop asking how many grams per candle; ask how many candles per kilo.

A kilo of oil divided by the oil in one candle gives the candles that kilo will pour. That single number lets you read any quantity off the shelf: if a kilo pours 62.50 candles, 250 candles is four kilos. The table below gives candles per kilo for the four common candle sizes at three loads, and then the kilos 250 candles need once a 5% allowance is added.

The 200 g row at 8% is the working example across this cluster: 62.50 candles a kilo, 4.20 kg for 250 with the allowance. Two neighbours on the grid are worth noticing. A 150 g candle at 8% and a 200 g candle at 6% both take 12 g of oil, so both pour 83.33 candles a kilo. And a 250 g candle at 8% takes the same 20 g as a 200 g candle at 10%. The oil budget does not care which way you arrive at the grams.

Pick the load before you pick the bottles
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% fragrance load and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%, the wax maker's stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. Moving the whole 250-candle run from 8% to 10% adds 1.00 kg of oil before the allowance. Settle the load in test burns, then order. Where the 1 kg starts to pay

The kilo bottle is not automatically the cheap bottle. For some oils it wins below one kilo of need. For others it never wins at all.

Most makers assume that once they need about a kilo, the 1 kg is the right buy. On CSI's listed catalogue that is only true for oils whose kilo is actually cheaper per gram. We tested every quantity from 15 g to 3 kg, in 5 g steps, against every in-stock combination of listed packs for eight oils, and recorded the smallest need at which a 500 g or a 1 kg first appears in the strictly cheapest order.

Three groups fall out. Oils with a steep ladder, such as Citronella (₹7.67 a gram at 100 g, ₹2.89 at 1 kg), Honeydew Melon and Mango Coconut, reach for the big bottle early; a need of a few hundred grams already justifies a 500 g. Oils with a gentle ladder, such as British Rose and Lavender, only switch close to one kilo. Oils with a flat ladder, such as Blue Ocean and Gardenia, never switch: ten Gardenia 100 g bottles cost ₹4,330.00 and the kilo costs ₹4,332.00. Jasmine sits between: two 500 g bottles cost ₹3,922.00 against ₹3,923.00 for the kilo, so its 500 g appears early but the 1 kg never wins outright.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. For a flat-priced oil, the 1 kg bottle does not save you a rupee. On Blue Ocean it costs ₹6.00 more than ten 100 g bottles. We still think it is the right buy for a scent you are pouring 100 candles of, because one bottle is easier to store, weigh from and track than ten, and it will not run out halfway through the batch. For practical orders we do not chase the strictly cheapest combination to the last rupee. Where an order with fewer bottles costs within 1% of the cheapest, we show the simpler one. On Blue Ocean at 1,680 g, the strictly cheapest order is 33 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g for ₹8,337.44. Nobody wants to open 35 small bottles to save ₹25.00, so the featured run uses 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g for ₹8,362.44.

The CSI principle
Buy the kilo for its price where it is cheaper, and for its convenience where it is not — but know which one you are paying for.
Look at the oil's 100 g and 1 kg per-gram prices before every order. Where the kilo is cheaper, it is a saving from well below one kilo of need. Where it is not, it is a handling decision and should be weighed as one.

At 3% the Mango Coconut order is exactly two kilos and a 500 g, 2,500 g, because the 2,472 g need fits under it with room to spare. At 5% the need of 2,520 g tips just over, and a 50 g finishes the job. That 20 g is the whole cost of the extra allowance on this scent: ₹250.00. The oil cost per candle is ₹67.73 for Mango Coconut and ₹83.62 for Blue Ocean, even though Blue Ocean's 100 g is cheaper than Mango Coconut's 100 g. At production quantities the kilo price decides the candle's cost, not the tester price.

If you would rather the second scent were a floral, Jasmine is a close swap. The same 100 candles need 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g for ₹6,744.00, ₹1,618.44 less than Blue Ocean, and the run's bill falls to ₹65,166.00. If all 250 candles were Mango Coconut, the order would be 4 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g for ₹16,856.00, ₹67.42 a candle.

Splitting evenly when sales are not even. A 125/125 split looks fair and usually is not. What fragrance load should I use for 250 candles?
The same load your test burns proved, usually 6–10% in soy. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10% (the wax maker's stated maximums).
