Commercial Fragrance · Bulk for Container Manufacturers
At a thousand units a month, fragrance stops being a shopping decision and becomes a production input. You plan it per melt, per SKU and per month, and you care as much about consistency and stock as about price. This page builds a real 1,000-unit month from CSI's catalogue and prices every line.
₹146.58
average material cost per unit across a 1,000-unit month in Salsa jars and 85 g tins · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil does a container candle manufacturer need? Units × fill × load. Our example month — 600 Salsa jars (illustrative 180 g) and 400 Golden tins (85 g) at 8% — needs 11.36 kg of oil, bought as twelve 1 kg packs.

Does CSI supply fragrance oil in bulk above 1 kg? The largest listed pack is 1 kg per oil. For several kilos of one oil, or a monthly production order, CSI quotes on WhatsApp. No discount figure is published, so ask with your SKUs and quantities.

What does one container candle cost at 1,000 units a month? In our example, ₹146.58 on average: from ₹95.24 for a Citronella tin to ₹180.60 for a Fallen Leaves Salsa jar. Labour, packaging, freight and GST are extra.

Which wax is best for bulk container production? For planning, a wax with a stated ceiling: CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg and rated up to 10%. 14 × 10 kg covers our month for ₹71,036.00. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks allow up to 13% but cost ₹599.00 a kilo.
The short answer
Monthly oil: 11.36 kg for 1,000 units; 12 × 1 kg across four oils (₹39,117.00). Real kilo breaks on Citronella (62.3%), Eucalyptus Spearmint (13.3%), Fallen Leaves (10.0%), Citrus Lemon (5.6%).
Batch sheet: One 10 kg melt at 8% = 800 g oil + 9.2 kg wax ≈ 55 Salsa jars at 180 g or 117 tins at 85 g.
Monthly bill: Oil ₹39,117.00 · wax ₹71,036.00 · Salsa jars ₹17,700.00 · tins ₹12,240.00 · wicks ₹6,490.00 · total ₹1,46,583.00.
Shop: Fragrance Oils · CSI 464 · Salsa jars · Golden tins · bulk quote on WhatsApp.
A 1,000-unit container month — units, oil and spend by SKU 200 units 2880 g oil Citrus Lemon Salsa jar · 180 g 200 units 2880 g oil Eucalyptus Spearmint Salsa jar · 180 g 200 units 2880 g oil Fallen Leaves Salsa jar · 180 g 400 units 2720 g oil Citronella Golden tin · 85 g Total oil 11.36 kg (bought as 12 × 1 kg) · wax 135.9 kg with 4% allowance · spend ₹1,46,583.00 8% load · CSI 464 · Salsa fill illustrative, tin fill published (85 g) · excludes labour, packaging, freight, GST
Units are not the same as oil. The 400 Citronella tins are the biggest SKU by count but use less oil than any 200-jar Salsa SKU, because the tin holds 85 g against an illustrative 180 g. Plan oil by grams per SKU, never by unit count.
Straight answer
How should a container candle manufacturer buy fragrance oil in bulk?
Plan it from the bottom up: grams per unit, then kilos per SKU, then the month. Our example month is 1,000 units — 600 200 ml Salsa jars at an illustrative 180 g and 400 Golden Aluminium Tins at their published 85 g — all at 8%. That needs 11.36 kg of oil, bought as twelve 1 kg packs across four oils, and about 136 kg of wax with a 4% allowance. Choose production oils with real kilo breaks where the range allows: Citronella is 62.3% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g, Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.3%, Fallen Leaves 10.0%. The whole month, oil, wax, jars, tins and wicks, comes to ₹1,46,583.00, or ₹146.58 a unit. The listed packs stop at 1 kg per oil and 10 kg per wax bag (50 kg for Natural Soy Pearl), so a manufacturer should ask for a monthly quote on WhatsApp. No discount figure is published. Ask for MSDS and IFRA documentation for every production oil.
One line: plan fragrance in grams per SKU per month, and buy it like the production input it is.
For an outdoor or monsoon tin line, Citronella at ₹2,891.00 a kilo has the largest price break in the catalogue: ₹7.67 a gram at 100 g, ₹2.89 at 1 kg. At 8% in an 85 g tin that is ₹19.66 of oil per tin.
Buy Citronella 1 kg

The production plan, SKU by SKU

A manufacturer does not buy fragrance. A manufacturer buys grams of fragrance per SKU per month.

The example here is a realistic small-factory month: three scents in 200 ml Salsa jars and a Citronella tin line, 1,000 units in total. The Salsa jar's fill weight is not published, so 180 g is illustrative; the Golden Aluminium Tin is sold with an 85 g fill. The allowance adds 4%, inside the working assumption of 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns. Oil is rounded up to whole 1 kg packs, the largest listed size.

8% load · oils CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026 · allowance 4% (working assumption)
Monthly oil and wax by SKU
SKU Units Fill Oil Oil + 4% Oil bought Wax
Salsa · Citrus Lemon 200 180 g (illustrative) 2.88 kg 3.00 kg 3 × 1 kg · ₹8,496.00 33.12 kg
Salsa · Eucalyptus Spearmint 200 180 g (illustrative) 2.88 kg 3.00 kg 3 × 1 kg · ₹9,204.00 33.12 kg
Salsa · Fallen Leaves 200 180 g (illustrative) 2.88 kg 3.00 kg 3 × 1 kg · ₹12,744.00 33.12 kg
Tin · Citronella 400 85 g (published) 2.72 kg 2.83 kg 3 × 1 kg · ₹8,673.00 31.28 kg

Each Salsa SKU needs 2.88 kg of oil, just under 3.00 kg with the allowance, so three 1 kg packs cover it with a thin margin. The Citronella tins need 2.72 kg, 2.83 kg with the allowance, also three kilos. The whole month is 11.36 kg of oil and 130.64 kg of wax before the allowance. Note how the unit count misleads: the tin line is the largest SKU by units and the smallest by oil.

Round up at the SKU, not the month
Adding up the month's oil and rounding once hides the problem that each scent is a separate bottle. Round each SKU up to whole packs, then total. In this example rounding per SKU buys 12 kg; rounding the month would suggest 12 kg too, but with a different mix you can easily be a kilo short on one scent and a kilo over on another.

The batch sheet

Production happens in melts, not months. A batch sheet turns the load into grams for a standard melt so that every operator pours the same candle. Here it is for a 10 kg melt, the size of one bag of CSI 464. Load is a percentage of total finished weight, so a 10 kg batch at 8% is 800 g of oil and 9.2 kg of wax.

One 10 kg melt (wax + oil) · jars at an illustrative 180 g, tins at the published 85 g
Batch sheet for a 10 kg melt
Load Oil Wax Salsa jars per batch Tins per batch CSI 464 ceiling
6% 600 g 9400 g 55.6 117.6 Within CSI 464's 10%
8% 800 g 9200 g 55.6 117.6 Within CSI 464's 10%
10% 1000 g 9000 g 55.6 117.6 Within CSI 464's 10%

Posting this sheet at the melter removes the most common production error: an operator adding "8%" of the wax weight instead of 8% of the total. On 9.2 kg of wax that mistake adds 736 g of oil where 800 g was meant — or, the other way round, adds 800 g to 10 kg of wax and changes both the load and the yield. Write the grams, not the percentage. The same method works for any batch size; fragrance oils at a 6–8% load shows the arithmetic at other loads.

The creeping load. In a busy month an operator "tops up" oil on batches that seem weak. Over a month the average load drifts to 9 or 10%, the oil order runs out a week early, and in CSI 464 the candle is now at its stated 10% maximum. Fix the grams on the batch sheet, weigh every addition, and treat a weak batch as a question for the test bench, not the melter.

The monthly bill of materials

At volume, the price of each line matters less than choosing the right pack for each line.

Wax is the largest line at 48.5%, and oil comes second at 26.7%. The tins come in packs of 12, so 400 tins means 34 packs and 8 spares. The 1,000-wick pack covers every unit, and the extra 100-pack covers wick tests and rejects. Wicks are the same ₹5.90 each at every Thin C1 pack size, so there is no saving in buying more than you need. Wick size is not published by container; the burn test sets it.

Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 14 × 10 kg ₹89,180.00 ₹637.00 Not quoted — ask

CSI 464 is the planning choice here because it has a stated ceiling (up to 10%) that comfortably covers an 8% load, and a flat ₹507.40 a kilo. Natural Soy Pearl Wax in 50 kg bags is cheaper at ₹424.80 a kilo, and 150 kg costs ₹63,720.00, but no fragrance ceiling is quoted for it in this data, so ask for the wax maker's stated maximum and run a burn test before building a production recipe on it. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks allow up to 13% but cost more per kilo. Any wax change is a new product: re-test the wick and the load.

The CSI principle
Write grams on the batch sheet, and kilos on the order.
Percentages are for recipes. Operators need grams per melt; buyers need kilos per SKU per month. Converting once, carefully, and posting the result is how a factory pours the same candle on the last day of the month as on the first.

Choosing production oils

For a manufacturer, the best production oil combines a scent the market wants with a price that holds at volume and stock that is reliably there. On CSI's list, a handful of oils have real kilo breaks that make them natural production choices, and the four in this plan are among them. Every oil still needs its own test in your wax and container; we have not published throw measurements.

Citrus Lemon completes the plan as the lowest-priced oil in the collection at ₹2,832.00 a kilo, with a 5.6% kilo saving. If your market wants richer profiles, the maths is the same and the oil line grows: see premium oils for luxury jar candles for that cost stack. For the kilo-by-kilo view by jar size, see buying 1 kg for container production.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more if every manufacturer carried twenty scents. At 1,000 units a month, every extra SKU splits your oil into smaller orders, adds a label, a test log and a stock line, and makes every batch smaller. Four to six production scents, each bought by the kilo, is usually easier to run well than twelve bought in 500 g. Add a scent when a customer asks for it twice.

Securing supply at volume

At 1,000 units a month, a stock-out on one oil stops a quarter of production. The steps below keep supply predictable.

1
Send a monthly forecast, not a one-off orderMessage CSI on WhatsApp with the kilos per oil per month for the next quarter. A forecast is easier to quote and to hold stock against than a surprise order.
2
Ask for one quote covering everythingOils, wax, jars, tins and wicks in one quote. The listed packs stop at 1 kg per oil and 10 kg per wax bag (50 kg for Natural Soy Pearl); beyond that, the quote is the price. No discount figure is published.
3
Hold one month of safety stock on your top sellersFor your two biggest SKUs, keep a month of oil in hand. On flat-priced oils this costs nothing extra per gram; it only ties up cash.
4
Request MSDS and IFRA documents per oilRetailers and corporate buyers ask for them. Get them at order time for every production oil and file them against the SKU.
5
Re-test when a new lot arrivesPour one test unit from each new delivery before it goes into production. It takes a day and catches surprises before 250 units do.
6
Reconcile oil used against units pouredAt month end, oil used ÷ units poured should be close to the batch sheet. For the Salsa jars at 8% that is 14.4 g a unit; a big gap means the load is drifting or waste is high.

Stock visibility is part of the plan. On the pull date, some sizes were out of stock across the catalogue — for example the Vetiver 1 kg, the Chocolate Fudge 100 g and all sizes of Spiced Rum. A production oil should be one you can reorder, so ask about continuity before you build a SKU around a scent. For a 300-jar business, wholesale oils for jar candle businesses covers the smaller scale; for supplier checks, where to buy professional oils for jar candles and I Want One Supplier for Wax, Fragrance Oils, Wicks, Jars, Dyes and Moulds — What Should I Check Before Buying All My Candle Raw Materials From Them? cover what to verify. Soy-only manufacturers should also read bulk oils for soy candle manufacturers, and festive runs Where to Buy Fragrance Oils in Bulk for Festive and Corporate Candle Manufacturing.

A thousand units is two hundred and fifty units per scent. Plan the scent, not the thousand.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page is written for manufacturers, and it does not promise a bulk discount we do not publish. It shows exactly where the listed packs stop, where the real price breaks are, and when a quote is the only honest number.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Salsa jar and Golden tin prices were pulled on 24–25 September 2026, and Eco Candle Wick prices on 25 September 2026. Every quantity, batch figure and total is arithmetic on those prices and the stated assumptions, shown to two decimals so you can check it.

The Salsa jar's 180 g fill, the 8% load, the product mix and the 4% allowance are working assumptions for illustration; the Golden tin's 85 g fill is published. CSI 464 is rated up to 10% and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13% — the wax maker's stated maximums; none is quoted here for Natural Soy Pearl or CSI 468. By 1 kg price: Citrus Lemon ₹2,832.00, Citronella ₹2,891.00, British Rose and Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹3,068.00. Cheapest is only right if the scent sells; test in your wax first.
How much fragrance oil per 10 kg of wax?
Load is a share of total weight. For a 10 kg total batch at 8%: 800 g oil and 9.2 kg wax. If you start from 10 kg of wax at 8% of total weight, add 869.57 g of oil (10 kg ÷ 0.92 × 0.08).
