Commercial Fragrance · Melt Manufacturing
At production scale, you stop thinking in melts and start thinking in bags of wax. Every 10 kg of wax needs a fixed amount of oil at your chosen load, becomes a fixed number of melts, and ties up a fixed number of mould pours. Get those three numbers right and the oil order writes itself.
1.11 kg
fragrance oil per 10 kg bag of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at a 10% load — 1,111.1 illustrative 10 g melts per bag · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil per 10 kg of wax for wax melts? Load is a share of the finished weight, so oil = 10 kg × L ÷ (1 − L). At 10%: 1.111 kg. At 13% (the Chunks ceiling): 1.494 kg. On CSI 464 the ceiling is 10%, so 1.111 kg is its maximum.

How many wax melts from 10 kg of wax? At an illustrative 10 g melt, 1,087.0 at 8%, 1,111.1 at 10% and 1,149.4 at 13% — because the oil adds to the batch weight. Weigh one filled cavity of your own mould and rescale.

Which bulk sizes should a melt manufacturer buy? Oil in 1 kg per scent (flat per gram for most oils; real savings on 24). Chunks in 5 kg bags at ₹2,995.00 — the 10 kg bag is ₹5,999.00, 90 paise a kilo dearer. Beyond the listed packs, quote on WhatsApp.

How many moulds do I need for 1,000 melts a day? Divide by cavities. A 40 Cavity Square needs 25 pours; a Wax Sachet Mould (6 cavities) needs 167. Cavity weights are not published, so confirm your melt size before planning the line. See mould throughput.
The short answer
Oil per bag: 10 kg Chunks: 0.870 kg at 8% · 1.111 kg at 10% · 1.364 kg at 12% · 1.494 kg at 13% (ceiling). Never exceed 13%.
Melts per bag: 1,111.1 illustrative 10 g melts at 10%; 1,149.4 at 13%.
A 5,000-melt month: 5 kg oil (five 1 kg scents, ₹19,027.00) + 45 kg Chunks (9 × 5 kg, ₹26,955.00) = ₹45,982.00 before containers.
One 10 kg bag of wax — how much oil it takes, and how many melts it becomes Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, illustrative 10 g melts. Oil = total × load; total = 10 kg ÷ (1 − load). 1,087 melts 8% · 0.87 kg oil batch 10.87 kg 1,111 melts 10% · 1.11 kg oil batch 11.11 kg 1,136 melts 12% · 1.36 kg oil batch 11.36 kg 1,149 melts 13% · 1.49 kg oil batch 11.49 kg Black = fragrance oil · grey = the 10 kg of wax. 13% is the stated ceiling on Chunks: the chart stops there on purpose.
Because load is a share of the finished weight, the oil for a fixed 10 kg of wax grows faster than the load: 1.111 kg at 10% but 1.494 kg at 13%. Melt counts assume an illustrative 10 g melt — CSI does not publish cavity weights. On CSI 464 the chart would stop at 10%.
Straight answer
How should a wax melt manufacturer plan bulk fragrance oil?
Plan by the bag of wax, not by the melt. Load is a share of the finished weight, so for every 10 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks you need 1.111 kg of oil at 10% and 1.494 kg at 13%, the wax maker's stated ceiling (never exceed it). That bag becomes about 1,111 illustrative 10 g melts at 10%. CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax; Chunks (13%) and CSI 464 (10%) are container waxes and the only ones with a published ceiling. For bulk, buy oil in 1 kg per scent — flat per gram for most oils, genuinely cheaper for 24 — and Chunks in 5 kg bags (₹2,995.00), which are fractionally cheaper per kilo than the 10 kg. A 5,000-melt month at 10% needs 5 kg of oil and 45 kg of wax: ₹45,982.00 for five 1 kg scents and nine 5 kg bags. Then plan moulds by cavities: a 40-cavity mould needs 25 pours per thousand melts. Beyond listed packs, ask CSI on WhatsApp for a production quote.
One line: every bag of wax has an oil number and a melt number — fix both and your bulk order is arithmetic, not guesswork.
The lowest-cost production kilo in the collection is Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832.00 (₹2.83/g). One kilo at 10% scents 1,000 illustrative 10 g melts and needs 9 kg of wax — nearly two 5 kg bags of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹2,995.00 each.
Buy Citrus Lemon 1 kg

Plan by the bag of wax

A small maker asks how much oil goes in a melt. A manufacturer asks how much oil goes in a bag. The second question is the one that fills an order form.

Fragrance load is a percentage of the finished weight: oil = total × load. When you start from a fixed amount of wax — a 10 kg bag — the total is the wax divided by (1 − load), and the oil is the difference. That is why the oil per bag rises faster than the load: going from 10% to 13% adds three points of load but 34.5% more oil. The table works it through for both CSI waxes with a published ceiling.

Per 10 kg of wax · illustrative 10 g melts · ceilings are wax makers' stated maximums
Oil, batch weight and melts from one 10 kg bag
Load Wax Oil needed Finished batch 10 g melts 1 kg oil packs
8% Chunks 10 kg (ceiling 13%) 0.870 kg 10.870 kg 1,087.0 0.87 → buy 1 × 1 kg
10% Chunks 10 kg (ceiling 13%) 1.111 kg 11.111 kg 1,111.1 1.11 → buy 2 × 1 kg
12% Chunks 10 kg (ceiling 13%) 1.364 kg 11.364 kg 1,136.4 1.36 → buy 2 × 1 kg
13% Chunks 10 kg (ceiling 13%) 1.494 kg 11.494 kg 1,149.4 1.49 → buy 2 × 1 kg
8% CSI 464 10 kg (ceiling 10%) 0.870 kg 10.870 kg 1,087.0 0.87 → buy 1 × 1 kg
10% CSI 464 10 kg (ceiling 10%) 1.111 kg 11.111 kg 1,111.1 1.11 → buy 2 × 1 kg

On Chunks, the full 8–13% range sits inside the stated ceiling. On CSI 464, 10% is the stated maximum, so a 10 kg bag can never take more than 1.111 kg of oil. CSI 464 is cheaper — ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg against ₹5,999.00 for Chunks — so a manufacturer running at 10% or below can save ₹925.00 a bag, provided the wax releases cleanly from your moulds. Both are container waxes; CSI does not list a wax sold specifically for melts. For Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Soy Pillar Wax, paraffin, beeswax or soy butter, confirm the stated maximum on WhatsApp before you plan a production load.

Round oil up to whole packs — then use the remainder
At 10%, a 10 kg bag needs 1.111 kg of oil: one full kilo plus 111 g. Rather than open a second kilo for 111 g, plan batches in multiples of 9 kg of wax per kilo of oil. Nine kilos of wax plus one kilo of oil is exactly 10 kg of melts at 10% — a thousand illustrative melts with no remainder.
The container-wax caveat at production scale. Chunks and CSI 464 are sold for container candles, where a soft set is a virtue. In a melt line, softness can mean slower release from silicone and melts that scuff in the pack on a hot day. That is general practice, not a CSI measurement. Before committing tonnes of pours, run one full production day on your moulds and packaging. If release is slow, ask CSI about a firmer wax — and that wax's stated maximum load — before changing.

Mould throughput

Your oil and wax plan is only as fast as your moulds. Each pour fills every cavity once; divide your daily melts by the cavities per mould to get the pours you need, then decide how many moulds to run side by side. The cavity counts below come from the product names where stated. Cavity weights are not published for any mould — and a coffee-bean cavity is plainly much smaller than a sachet cavity — so weigh one filled cavity before you plan any mould against a 10 g melt.

Melt moulds · CSI live pricing, 24–25 September 2026 · cavities from product names

Flower Silicon Mould / Wax Melts Mould Not stated in our data ₹200.60 — — Count cavities on arrival
Mini Heart Mould Not stated in our data ₹153.40 — — Count cavities on arrival

The 55 Cavity Coffee Bean is the cheapest per cavity at ₹3.22 and needs only 19 pours per thousand, but its cavities are bean-sized, so a thousand beans is far less wax than a thousand tablet melts. Among the tablet-style moulds, the 40 Cavity Square costs ₹11.80 a cavity and needs 25 pours per thousand. The Wax Sachet Mould is the opposite: 6 cavities at ₹98.14 each, 167 pours per thousand. That does not make it a worse buy — a sachet-style melt may be what your brand sells — but it does mean running several side by side. If you need a thousand sachet-style melts a day, you are buying moulds by the dozen, and that is a line on your bulk order too.

Mould shape also changes oil per melt. If your coffee-bean cavity weighs 2 g filled, a 1 kg oil pack at 10% becomes five thousand beans rather than a thousand melts — and a customer will use several at a time. Plan the product the customer puts in the warmer, not the cavity.

The melter batch sheet

Most production kitchens melt wax in batches smaller than a bag. Whatever the size of your melter, the batch sheet is the same arithmetic. Here is a 2 kg finished batch at 10% on Chunks, with the pour-loss allowance marked as a working assumption:

1
Fix the finished batch weight: 2 kgAt 10%, that is 200 g of oil and 1,800 g of wax — two hundred illustrative 10 g melts.
2
Add the pour-loss allowancePlan 3–5% extra for wax left in the jug and test melts — a working assumption, not a measured figure. At 4%, weigh out 1,872 g of wax and 208 g of oil.
3
Weigh oil, never pour by eyeAt production scale a small error repeats across every batch. Weigh the oil on a scale into a separate jug before it meets the wax.
4
Add colour to the wax, then oilCSI's liquid dyes (₹236.00 for 15 g) and dye chips (₹250.00) have no published dose per kilo. Follow the dye's product page, record exactly what you used, and repeat it.
5
Stir, pour, label the trayLabel each tray with oil, load, batch number and date before it sets. A tray without a label is a tray you cannot trace.
6
Set, release, cure, packRelease when fully set, cure the same number of days for every batch, and pack into Wax Melts Containers (₹29.50 each). Their fill weight is not published; weigh one filled container to set your pack size.

Write the batch sheet once, laminate it, and make everyone use it. Consistency is what separates a manufacturer from a maker who happens to make a lot. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Wax Melts? has the per-melt figures if your staff think in melts rather than grams.

Labour, labels, freight and GST are extra. This is the listed-price baseline for a production quote. Wholesale Fragrance Oils for Wax Melt Businesses explains what to send CSI to get one.

The oils in this plan are chosen to show three bulk situations. Citrus Lemon is the cheapest kilo in the collection. Fallen Leaves and Jasmine are among the oils with a real kilo saving (10.0% and 8.8%). Blue Ocean and British Rose sit near the top of CSI's best-selling sort. None of these is a throw claim — screen any production oil in your own wax before a bulk order, as Strong Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts describes.

Keeping batches consistent

A customer who reorders your Jasmine melt expects the same melt. Bulk buying is how you give it to them.

Consistency at scale comes from three habits. The first is fewer, larger lots of oil: one kilo of a scent poured across a month gives more uniform melts than ten 100 g bottles bought as you go. Here bulk earns its keep even when the per-gram price is flat. The second is a fixed load per scent, written on the batch sheet and never adjusted on the fly. If a scent seems weak, test a change in a separate trial batch — Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts shows how — and only change the sheet when the trial proves it. The third is a lot record: oil, pack size, date received, batches poured from it. When a customer comments on a batch, you can trace it.

Weigh a finished melt from every batch against your target weight, and a filled container against your pack weight. Drift of a gram or two per melt across thousands of melts is kilos of wax and hundreds of grams of oil a month that you paid for and did not sell.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. A bigger order is better for us, but a manufacturer should not buy a kilo of every scent just to feel stocked. For most oils the kilo is no cheaper per gram than the 100 g, and oil sitting unsold for months is cash on a shelf. Buy kilos of your proven scents and your seasonal runs. Keep new and slow scents at 100 g or 500 g until they earn their kilo.
The CSI principle
Plan by the bag, pour by the sheet, buy by the proven scent.
A 10 kg bag has a fixed oil number at your load; a mould has a fixed number of pours per thousand; a proven scent has a predictable monthly kilo. Put those three on paper and the bulk order, the staffing and the cash flow all follow from arithmetic.
Nine kilos of wax, one kilo of oil, a thousand melts. Start every plan there.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished melts. A bulk page is where a supplier would normally push the largest pack. Our listings show the 10 kg bag of Chunks is fractionally dearer per kilo than the 5 kg, and most oils cost the same per gram at 1 kg as at 100 g, so this page says so.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; moulds, dyes and containers from the 24–25 September 2026 pull. Oil-per-bag, melts-per-bag, pours and monthly totals are arithmetic on those prices and on the load formula (oil = total × load), shown so you can check them.

The 10 g melt, six-melt container and 4% pour-loss allowance are illustrative working assumptions — CSI does not publish cavity weights, container fill weights or dye doses. Cavity counts are from product names. The 13% (Chunks) and 10% (CSI 464) ceilings are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for 10 kg of wax melts?
For 10 kg of finished melts: 1 kg of oil at 10%, 1.3 kg at 13%. For 10 kg of wax (before oil): 1.111 kg at 10% and 1.494 kg at 13%. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 13% is the stated ceiling; on CSI 464 it is 10%.
What is the best bulk wax for wax melt manufacturing?
CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax. Of its waxes, only Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) and CSI 464 (up to 10%) have a published ceiling; both are container waxes. Test mould release and pack handling on a full production day, and ask CSI about firmer waxes and their stated maximums if needed.
How many wax melts can I make from 1 kg of fragrance oil?
At an illustrative 10 g melt: 1,250 at 8%, 1,000 at 10%, 769.23 at 13%. You also need 11.5 kg, 9 kg or 6.692 kg of wax respectively. Weigh your own cavity to replace the 10 g.
Is it cheaper to buy wax for melts in 10 kg bags?
Not on CSI's listed Chunks prices: 10 kg is ₹5,999.00 (₹599.90 a kilo) and 5 kg is ₹2,995.00 (₹599.00 a kilo). CSI 464 is flat at ₹507.40 a kilo. Larger orders are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
Which silicone mould is best for mass producing wax melts?
Of CSI's melt moulds that state a cavity count, the 55 Cavity Coffee Bean (₹177.00) needs the fewest pours per thousand (19), but its cavities are bean-sized. For tablet-style melts, the 40 Cavity Square (₹472.00) needs 25 and the Cloud Mould, with 30 cavities (₹529.82), needs 34. Cavity weights are not published, so weigh one before planning.
Do fragrance oils come with IFRA certificates for bulk orders?
MSDS and IFRA documentation are available on request — ask with your order on WhatsApp. This page does not state any oil's IFRA percentage or flash point; the documents are the source.
