How Much Raw Material Should I Buy for 1,000 Diwali Candles?
Share
How much fragrance oil for 1,000 Diwali candles? Fragrance is a percentage of wax weight, so the answer follows the fill weights, not the candle count. At 8% of the 107.1 kg melted, this run needs 8,568 g and buys 8.8 kg: 2.6 kg of Sandalwood, 2.2 kg of Raat Ki Rani, 2.2 kg of Apple Cinnamon and 1.8 kg of Woody Oud, ₹46,609.76 in all. Both the wax ceiling and each oil page's own candle range apply, and the lower of the two governs.
How many jars should I order for 1,000 candles? 630 and 420 on this split — a 4% spares allowance over the 600 jars and 400 votives the run actually fills. Glass travelling by road for a festive deadline is exactly where a spares allowance earns its keep. That is 63 packs of ten Red Glass Jars with Golden Lid (₹67,410.00) and 42 packs of ten Clear Glass Votive Jars (₹13,381.20), which together are ₹80,791.20 — the largest line in the order by a distance.
Is it too late to order for Diwali 2026? Not yet, but the window is a week or two wide rather than a month. Diwali 2026 is 8 November 2026. For the full thousand, the materials want to be on your bench by about 1 October 2026, because the last pour has to land around 18 October to clear a 21-day cure. Bench dates of 8 October, 15 October and 20 October still buy real runs — 800, 600 and 300 candles — and the order ladder below costs each one. What never moves is the cure, so cut the run rather than the fortnight.
What 1,000 festive candles actually are
The single most useful decision in a festive run is made before the material list exists: what shape the thousand candles take. A thousand identical single candles is one kind of business. Six hundred single gifting candles plus a hundred boxed sets of four is another, and it is the one most Indian candle brands actually sell into at festive time, because a set at a gift price does work that a single candle cannot. This page costs the second version: 600 candles at a 130 g fill in the Red Glass Jar with Golden Lid and 400 votives at 60 g in the Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram.
| Line | In the candles | Allowance | Packs to buy | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax · CSI 464 | 102 kg | 5% → 107.1 kg | 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg = 108 kg | ₹54,799.20 |
| Oil · Sandalwood (30%) | 2,570.4 g | in the 5% above | 2 × 1 kg + 6 × 100 gm = 2.6 kg | ₹13,069.68 |
| Oil · Raat Ki Rani (25%) | 2,142.0 g | in the 5% above | 2 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm = 2.2 kg | ₹14,948.00 |
| Oil · Apple Cinnamon (25%) | 2,142.0 g | in the 5% above | 2 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm = 2.2 kg | ₹10,435.92 |
| Oil · Woody Oud (20%) | 1,713.6 g | in the 5% above | 1 kg + 500 gm + 3 × 100 gm = 1.8 kg | ₹8,156.16 |
| Vessel · Red Glass Jar with Golden Lid | 600 | 4% → 624 | 63 × Pack of 10 = 630 | ₹67,410.00 |
| Vessel · Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram | 400 | 4% → 416 | 42 × Pack of 10 = 420 | ₹13,381.20 |
| Wicks · Eco C2 Thick, for the jars | 600 | 4% → 624 | 6 × 100 + 1 × 50 = 650 | ₹6,136.00 |
| Wicks · Eco C1 Thin, for the votives | 400 | 4% → 416 | 1 × 500-pack | ₹2,950.00 |
| Wick stickers · sheets of 40 | 1,000 | 4% → 1,040 | 26 sheets = 1,040 | ₹2,600.00 |
| Care labels · rolls | 1,000 | 4% → 1,040 | 1 × 1,000 roll + 1 × 500 roll | ₹1,112.00 |
| CSI materials | 1,000 candles | — | 11 lines | ₹1,94,998.16 |
| Gift boxes, printed labels, ribbon, filler | 600 singles + 100 sets | — | not sold by CSI | your figure |
| Inbound freight and outbound delivery | 108 kg in, 700 items out | — | not sold by CSI | your figure |
| Labour, electricity, cure space | several pour weeks plus a fortnight of cure | — | not sold by CSI | your figure |
Per candle that is ₹195.00 of CSI materials, and per sellable item — counting a boxed set of four as one item — it is ₹278.57. Broken down, a gifting jar is ₹243.79: ₹107.00 of glass, ₹69.26 of wax, ₹54.89 of Sandalwood at a 10.92 g dose, ₹9.44 of wick, ₹2.50 of wick sticker and ₹0.70 of care label. A votive is ₹96.83, so a boxed set of four is ₹387.33 of candles before you add the box, the ribbon and the insert, which are yours to price.
Notice what the format mix does to the wax line. Six hundred jars carry 78 kg between them and four hundred votives carry 24 kg, so two thirds of the candles account for three quarters of the wax. If your own mix leans further towards votives and tealight-sized pieces, the wax line falls fast and the vessel line barely moves — which is the real reason small formats are attractive at festive time, and also why they rarely improve margin as much as makers expect.
The festive scent split, and why it is weighted
A retail range can afford an even split across scents. A festive run cannot, because festive demand is lopsided: the safe, recognisable, traditional scents carry the gifting volume, and the interesting ones sell to the people who already know your brand. Weighting the split is how you avoid finishing the season with 200 unsold candles in your own favourite scent.
| Scent | Share | Wax carried | Oil at 8% | Packs | Cost | Why it is weighted this way |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sandalwood | 30% | 32.13 kg | 2,570.4 g | 2 × 1 kg + 6 × 100 gm | ₹13,069.68 | The default festive gift; sells to buyers who are not choosing for themselves |
| Raat Ki Rani | 25% | 26.78 kg | 2,142.0 g | 2 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm | ₹14,948.00 | An Indian floral with evening associations; strong in the votive sets |
| Apple Cinnamon | 25% | 26.78 kg | 2,142.0 g | 2 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm | ₹10,435.92 | Warm spice that reads as festive to families and to children |
| Woody Oud | 20% | 21.42 kg | 1,713.6 g | 1 kg + 500 gm + 3 × 100 gm | ₹8,156.16 | The corporate and men's gifting scent; smallest share, highest per-unit price point |
| Total | 100% | 107.1 kg | 8,568 g | 8.8 kg bought | ₹46,609.76 | Four scents, deliberately not five |
Two costings are worth putting side by side before you settle the split. Four scents cost ₹46,609.76 in oil. The identical thousand candles in a single scent — 8.8 kg of Apple Cinnamon — would cost ₹41,743.68, a difference of ₹4,866.08 across the run. That is the price of range at this volume, and it is smaller than most people assume: roughly the cost of thirty gifting jars. What range actually costs you at four figures is not money but time, because every scent is another melt, another label, another test burn and another line to count.
Prices move the answer too. Per gram at 1 kg, Apple Cinnamon is ₹4.74, Woody Oud ₹4.53, Sandalwood ₹5.03, Rajnigandha ₹4.46, Spicy Cinnamon ₹6.50, Raat Ki Rani ₹6.77 and Dark Vanilla ₹7.65. On a run that buys 8.8 kg, choosing a scent one rupee a gram dearer costs roughly the price of a 10 kg wax pack. That is a reason to check rates while you are choosing a range, not a reason to build the range around the cheapest oils — a gifting candle that does not smell like the sample costs far more than a rupee a gram.
On the load itself, two ceilings apply to every one of those batches and the lower one governs. The CSI 464 page states a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight; each oil page states its own candle usage range. The 8% used here sits inside both for the oils named, but any substitution needs the same check before the packs are ordered, because a scent whose page stops at 6% changes both your dose and your oil quantity.
The vessel line: nearly half the order
At ₹80,791.20 the vessel line is the largest single commitment in this order — more than wax and fragrance together — and it is also the least reversible. Your photographs, labels, box dimensions and price are all built on the vessel, which is why it should be chosen with a sample in your hand and confirmed for availability before anything else is ordered.
| Vessel | Pack | Per unit | 630 units | Notes for a festive run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200ml Salsa Glass Jar | 50 Pcs | ₹29.50 | ₹19,175.00 | Cheapest per unit here; lug cap included; 13 packs covers 650 |
| Tin Containers 135 gram | Pack of 12 | ₹96.76 | ₹61,539.36 | Does not break in transit; 53 packs covers 636; a different look entirely |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid | Pack of 10 | ₹94.40 | ₹59,472.00 | 150 g fill, 8 cm tall, hot-pour safe to 85°C; the neutral gifting default |
| Red Glass Jar with Golden Lid | Pack of 10 | ₹107.00 | ₹67,410.00 | The vessel costed on this page; festive colourway, gold lid |
| Black Glass Jar with Black Lid | Pack of 10 | ₹107.00 | ₹67,410.00 | The most finished-looking and the dearest; suits corporate gifting |
The spread between the cheapest and the dearest of those is ₹48,235.00 on the same 630 vessels — several times the entire fragrance line. It is also the decision that most changes what the candle can be sold for, which is precisely why it should not be made from a table. Order five of your two or three candidates, pour them in your actual scents, photograph them, and then commit the run.
For the votive half, the choices sit close together: the Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram and the White Matte Votive Jar 70 gram are both ₹31.86 each in packs of ten, and the Pink Glass Votive Jar 70 gram is ₹36.00. Votives in a set of four are where a festive brand can add colour cheaply — four different colourways in one box reads as a collection and costs almost nothing extra per set.
One genuinely festive-specific point about glass. A thousand vessels moving by road in October, into a workshop, then out again as gifts, will include breakages at both ends. The 4% spares allowance on this page is an assumption rather than measured data, and if your last festive season broke more than that, use your own figure. Tins are the alternative that removes the risk entirely — 636 of the 135 gram Tin Container is ₹61,539.36 — but they change the product, and at festive gifting prices glass usually earns its place.
Ordering a four-figure festive run
At a thousand candles the store answers most of your questions and a person answers the rest. What follows is the sequence that gets a festive run confirmed in one round trip rather than five, and the dates it has to happen by if the candles are to be cured before the festival on 8 November 2026.
On dates, a run this size is the one case where the honest answer may be to make fewer candles. From the end of September, 1,000 candles means pouring through the first three weeks of October at a serious daily rate, and the last pour still has to land around 18 October to clear a full 21-day cure. If your pour capacity cannot do that — a 10 kg Electric Wax Melter at ₹21,240.00 changes the arithmetic, a 1 litre Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 does not, at this volume — then build 600 candles properly rather than 1,000 badly, and use the balance of the materials in the wedding and corporate season that follows. The order ladder in the next section costs each of those smaller runs line by line.
What this page will not do is put a number on bulk pricing, delivery time, freight or a minimum order, because none of those is published. Several real customer reviews on the store raise delivery charges and delivery timelines as the thing they would most like improved, and on a consignment of 108 kg of wax and a thousand pieces of glass those are genuinely material to your costing. That is exactly why they belong in a conversation with a figure attached and in your own blank rows on this sheet, rather than in an estimate on a blog page.
If you are starting late: the order ladder
Diwali 2026 is 8 November 2026, and the fixed point behind it is not a pour date but a cure: 14–21 days is standard practice for soy container candles, and the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page itself asks for a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks before burn testing. Work back from the festival and the last pour for a full 21-day cure lands around 18 October; accept the 14-day end of the range and it moves to about 25 October. Everything else — how many candles, how many scents, how much material — bends around those two dates. So the useful question for a late start is not "can I still do it" but "what does the order become".
One honest caveat before the table. The dates below are the dates the materials need to be on your bench, not the dates you click order. CSI publishes no delivery times and none is estimated here, so the gap between the two is a question for WhatsApp with your pincode attached — ask it before you commit to a row, not after. If the materials are already with you, read the table from the pour column instead.
| Materials on the bench by | Run | Wax to buy | Fragrance | Vessels | Last pour | CSI materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 October 2026 | 1,000 candles 600 jars + 400 votives |
108 kg 10 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg |
8.8 kg, four scents | 630 jars + 420 votives | 18 October full 21-day cure |
₹1,94,998.16 ₹195.00 a candle |
| 8 October 2026 | 800 candles 480 jars + 320 votives |
86 kg 8 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 1 kg |
7.0 kg, three scents | 500 jars + 340 votives | 22 October 17-day cure |
₹1,51,168.64 ₹188.96 a candle |
| 15 October 2026 | 600 candles 360 jars + 240 votives |
65 kg 6 × 10 kg + 5 kg |
5.3 kg, two scents | 380 jars + 250 votives | 25 October 14-day cure |
₹1,15,118.36 ₹191.86 a candle |
| 20 October 2026 | 300 candles 100 jars + 200 votives |
27 kg 2 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg |
2.1 kg, one scent | 110 jars + 210 votives | 25 October 14-day cure |
₹46,360.48 ₹154.53 a candle |
| After about 20 October | Nothing new for Diwali 2026 | Buy for the wedding and corporate season instead | Sealed oil and flakes keep | Order the vessel you actually want, not the one in stock in a hurry | — | Not a festive purchase |
Read down the last column and the late-start decision stops being emotional. The gap between the full thousand and the 300-candle version is ₹1,48,637.68 of material you simply do not commit — money that is still yours in November, when the wedding and corporate enquiries arrive and you can choose the vessel rather than take what is on the shelf. A late festive run is not a failure; over-committing in the second week of October is.
Spares, breakage and the festive top-up
Two allowances run through this list and both are assumptions rather than measurements: 5% wastage on wax and oil, and 4% spares on everything counted. It is worth being explicit about what each one is actually paying for, because at four figures they are real money — the 4% on vessels alone is 30 jars and 20 votives.
| Allowance | Applies to | What it absorbs | When to raise it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5% wastage | Wax and fragrance | Wax left in the pitcher, the first pour of a session, top-ups, rejected batches, sample candles | If you pour in small batches, change scent often, or are new to the vessel |
| 4% spares | Jars, votives, wicks, stickers, labels | Transit breakage, chipped rims, mis-set wicks, labels applied crookedly, quality rejects | If glass travels a long way to you, or the candles travel again as gifts |
| Your own figure | Gift boxes, ribbon, cards | Print errors, damaged boxes, sets made up wrongly | Always — printers and couriers both take their share |
| Zero | Cure time | Nothing. It is not an allowance, it is a fixed cost | Never |
The most useful spare in a festive run is not a jar, though. It is unpoured material. Holding back roughly 5 kg of wax and 400 g of oil — about ₹9,982.80 less than the difference between two wax grades on this order — leaves you able to pour 40 more gifting candles in late October if a corporate enquiry lands, without a new order and without waiting for anything. Finished candles held back do the same job only if they happen to be in the right scent.
Storage at this volume is a real constraint and an Indian one. A hundred and eight kilograms of flakes is eleven packs that need to stay sealed, off the floor and away from sunlight and moisture — the CSI 464 page asks for exactly that, and an opened pack left loosely closed in a humid October will clump. Sixty-three boxes of glass and forty-two of votives need floor space for weeks, and the poured candles need somewhere level, shaded and undisturbed to sit for a fortnight afterwards. Plan the cure space before the pour dates: a run of a thousand candles occupies far more room curing than it ever does being poured.
A litre of Isopropyl Alcohol Spray at ₹520.00 is worth adding to a list this size for one unglamorous reason: a thousand jars arriving from a warehouse and sitting in an Indian workshop for three weeks need wiping before they are poured, and adhesion problems usually start with a dusty or damp jar rather than with the wax.
The gifting lines CSI does not sell
CSI sells wax, fragrance, wicks, vessels, dyes and mica, finishing items, tools and equipment. It does not sell gift boxes, printed labels, ribbon, tissue, mailers or courier services, and publishes no rates for freight, labour, electricity or storage. On a festive gifting run those are not minor lines — a printed rigid box can cost more than the candle inside it — so they get their own rows, with the quantity attached and a note of what to ask for.
| Row | Quantity on this run | What to ask your supplier for | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift boxes for single jars | 600, plus spares | Per-piece at 500 and at 1,000, plus die or sample charges | your figure |
| Boxes or trays for the sets of four | 100, plus spares | Per-piece at 100 and at 250; insert included or not | your figure |
| Printed labels, front and base | 1,000–2,100 | Per-piece at 1,000 and 2,000; material and finish | your figure |
| Ribbon, tissue, cards, filler | 700 presentations | Per-set cost of the whole presentation | your figure |
| Outer cartons for dispatch | 40–80 depending on pack-out | Per-carton price and inside dimensions | your figure |
| Inbound freight on 108 kg plus 105 packs of glass | One or two consignments | Your charge at checkout | your figure |
| Outbound courier or delivery | Up to 700 parcels, or bulk drops | Per-parcel at your average weight; bulk rate for one drop | your figure |
| Labour | Several pour weeks plus finishing and pack-out | Your own rate, or a daily rate for help | your figure |
| Electricity, workspace and cure space | Pour weeks plus a fortnight of cure for 1,000 candles | Your bills or rent share | your figure |
| Your own costs | — | — | your figure |
| CSI materials | 11 lines | This page | ₹1,94,998.16 |
| True cost of the run | — | — | ₹1,94,998.16 + your own costs |
The row that changes a festive run most is outbound delivery, because a thousand candles going to one corporate buyer is a single consignment while the same thousand going to seven hundred individual gift addresses is seven hundred packing operations and seven hundred chances of a broken jar. Two runs with identical material costs can differ enormously in true cost for that reason alone, and no blog page can tell you which one you are running.
The row most often forgotten is the gift box lead time rather than its price. Printers in October are working to everyone's festive deadline at once, and artwork approved late is the commonest reason a cured, finished, beautiful thousand candles sits in a workshop during the week it should be selling. Get box quotes while you are placing the material order, not after the candles have cured.
A final check before you commit the sheet. Does every material line trace to a pack on a live product page. Is fragrance calculated from wax weight per scent rather than from candle count. Are the 5% and 4% allowances written down as assumptions. Has the vessel line been confirmed for availability rather than assumed. Is the last pour date compatible with a 14–21 day cure before the festival. And does the sheet end in two totals — ₹1,94,998.16 of CSI materials and your own rows underneath. At a thousand festive candles, a single invented number is the most expensive kind of optimism.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, and at four figures in a festive month the honest answers are not all comfortable ones. Some lines on this list are listed more thinly than others in the pack size a thousand-candle run needs, and where that is true this page says so and points to a conversation rather than quietly recommending a checkout. Gift boxes, printed labels, ribbon, tissue, filler, inbound freight, outbound courier, labour and storage are all real costs of a run this size, CSI sells none of them and publishes no rates for them, and they appear here as blank rows rather than as estimates.
Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026 and the linked product pages are authoritative. Per-kilogram, per-gram and per-unit rates are derived from the pack variants named beside each figure. Product-page specifications are quoted as such: the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, states a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture; oil pages state their own candle usage ranges, and where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower governs. The format mix, fill weights, scent weighting, 5% wastage and 4% spares allowances are planning assumptions stated at the point of use, not measured data. Listed stock depth described here is the depth listed in September 2026 and moves as orders are placed; no delivery time, freight rate, minimum order or discount is stated anywhere on this page because none is published.
WhatsApp +91 7397976926 for bulk pricing beyond the listed packs, to confirm current depth on a vessel or an oil before a four-figure festive commitment, for GST invoicing, or for MSDS and IFRA documentation a corporate gifting buyer asks for.

Fill weights, the format mix, the scent weighting, the 5% wastage and 4% spares allowances and the pour-schedule comments are planning assumptions, not measured data. Cure of 14–21 days is general practice for soy container candles, and the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks before burn testing. The order ladder is costed on the same packs, the same 8% load and the same 5% and 4% allowances as the full run: 800 candles as 480 jars and 320 votives (86 kg of wax, 7.0 kg of oil in three scents, 500 jars and 340 votives, ₹1,51,168.64); 600 candles as 360 jars and 240 votives (65 kg, 5.3 kg in two scents, 380 jars and 250 votives, ₹1,15,118.36); 300 candles as 100 jars and 200 votives (27 kg, 2.1 kg in one scent, 110 jars and 210 votives, ₹46,360.48). The bench dates of 1, 8, 15 and 20 October 2026 and the last-pour dates of 18, 22 and 25 October are worked back from the festival using the 14–21 day cure and are planning assumptions, not published lead times. Listed stock depth moves as orders are placed; no delivery time, freight rate, minimum order or discount is stated because none is published.
