A ₹1,000.00 candle can carry a beautiful jar, or a big one, but rarely both. Here is one ₹1,000.00 candle costed three ways, the most jar, lid and packaging can take at your margin, and every upgrade priced in margin points.
₹181.80
jar, lid and packaging ceiling for a 150 g candle at ₹1,000.00 net and 50% margin (worked example) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much of a ₹1,000.00 candle can go on jar, lid and packaging? In our worked example, at a 50% margin target, about ₹181.80 for a 150 g candle: 36.4% of the ₹500.00 the whole candle may cost. For a 300 g candle, only ₹25.61, less than any CSI lidded jar listed for 300 g or more.

Does a ₹1,000.00 candle support a luxury jar and a gift box? A 150 g golden-lid jar with tissue, label and a shipper, yes: presentation ₹132.15, margin 55.0%. Add a rigid gift box and it goes ₹10.35 over the 50% line.

What decides it? Candle size, more than glass. Presentation stays near a third of total cost in all three builds; a bigger jar sinks the margin because of the wax and oil it holds.

A quick rule? At ₹1,000.00 net, every ₹10.00 you spend is one point of margin. Price each upgrade that way before you add it.
The short answer
The split (Build A, 150 g): fill ₹168.20 · jar, lid and packaging ₹132.15 · courier and fees ₹90.00 · labour ₹60.00 · margin ₹549.65 (55.0%). Courier, labour and label are worked-example inputs.
The ceiling: at 50%, total cost may be ₹500.00. Minus fill and channel and labour, the presentation ceiling is ₹181.80 for 150 g and ₹25.61 for 300 g.
The margin check: A passes at 55.0%; B (300 g, bamboo lid, rigid box) lands at 27.4%; C (500 g apothecary) costs ₹9.11 more than the price.
The guard-rail (our judgement): keep presentation below the fill unless the vessel is the product. In A it is ₹132.15 against ₹168.20 of fill.
One ₹1,000.00 candle, three ways to spend it Each square is ₹10.00 of net price, rounded to whole squares. Worked example: CSI 468 + Dark Vanilla Oud at 8%. A · 150 g · clean luxury golden-lid jar, no rigid box margin ₹549.65 (55.0%) B · 300 g · gift jar bamboo-lid jar + rigid box margin ₹273.56 (27.4%) C · 500 g · statement jar dome-lid apothecary + rigid box ₹9.11 over the price +1 over jar, lid and packaging fill: wax, oil, wick courier + payment fees labour + overhead margin Presentation is 29.3% of cost in A, 34.7% in B and 31.2% in C: the share barely moves. What sinks B and C is the fill a bigger jar demands. Courier, labour, label and rigid box are illustrative inputs; CSI prices verified 26 September 2026. Replace every input with your own.
A ₹1,000.00 candle drawn as 100 squares of ₹10.00. Black is jar, lid and packaging; mid-grey the wax, oil and wick; light grey courier and payment fees; dashed labour; white what is left. A keeps 55.0%. B spends more on presentation, but its bigger fill does most of the damage. C runs out of squares before it reaches a margin. Worked example; your inputs will differ.
Straight answer
I'm selling a ₹1,000.00 luxury candle. How much of the product cost can reasonably go toward the jar, lid and packaging while maintaining margin?
Start from margin, not from the jar. At a 50% target, a ₹1,000.00 net price lets the whole candle cost ₹500.00. Take out what the customer smells (wax, oil, wick) and what it costs to reach them (courier, payment fees, your labour), and what remains is the ceiling for jar, lid and packaging. In our worked example, a 150 g candle in CSI 468 with Dark Vanilla Oud at 8% costs ₹168.20 to fill, courier and labour take ₹150.00, and the presentation ceiling is ₹181.80, about 36.4% of product cost. Our Build A spends ₹132.15 (golden-lid jar, label, tissue, sticker and shipper) and keeps 55.0%. A rigid gift box on top breaks the 50% line. Scale the same candle to 300 g and the ceiling falls to ₹25.61: the fill eats it. So the reasonable share is not a fixed percentage; it is whatever your margin leaves after the fill, and at ₹1,000.00 that favours a smaller candle in a well-finished jar.
One line: at ₹1,000.00 and 50%, a 150 g candle can spend about ₹181.80 on jar, lid and packaging; a 300 g candle can barely spend anything.
Build A's jar: the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) is ₹94.40 with its lid, in packs of 10 (₹944.00) or 20 (₹1,888.00), in stock on 26 September 2026. Test ten at 6%, 8% and 10% before you set the ₹1,000.00 price in print.

The ₹1,000.00 cost-allocation table, three builds

Luxury is a price point you hold, not a jar you buy.

Here is one ₹1,000.00 candle built three ways. Wax, oil, wick, jars, tissue, stickers and shipper boxes are CSI prices verified on 26 September 2026. Courier and payment fees (₹90.00), labour and overhead (₹60.00), a printed label (₹8.00) and a rigid gift box (₹60.00) are illustrative inputs; CSI does not sell labels or rigid boxes, so plug in your printer's and box-maker's quotes. We treat ₹1,000.00 as your net price after GST: if ₹1,000.00 is your GST-inclusive shelf price, run the table on the smaller net figure. Every build uses Dark Vanilla Oud at 8% in CSI 468, load as a share of total candle weight.

Presentation as a share of total cost 29.3% 34.7% 31.2%

The 7 × 5 × 4 inch carton in B and C is a placeholder: with a rigid box inside it, test the fit, and the apothecary jar's stated 13.2 cm height with its lid may need a larger carton than CSI lists. Read the last row before the margin row. Presentation is 29.3%, 34.7% and 31.2% of total cost across the three builds: close to a third each time. The share of cost going to glass and packaging hardly changes. What changes is the fill, from ₹168.20 to ₹544.66, because a bigger jar needs more wax and more of an oil at ₹5.69 per gram. The statement jar is not ruinous because it is glass; it is ruinous because it is a 500 g candle sold at a 150 g candle's price.

That is also the answer to "how much can reasonably go to the jar". As a share of cost, about a third is common across very different builds in this example, and we would not read more into it than that. As rupees, it depends entirely on what your margin leaves after the fill, which is the next table. Our per-candle material costs here exclude GST; the channel, labour and packaging lines are shown because a luxury split without them flatters every build.

Should the extra money in a premium candle go into the jar or into the wax and oil? That allocation question, at three price points, is the premium-brand hub; this page holds the price at ₹1,000.00 and asks what the split can bear.

The presentation ceiling at your margin

Turn the table round. Choose a margin, multiply the price by one minus that margin to get the cost cap, subtract the fill and ₹150.00 of courier and labour, and what is left is the most jar, lid and every piece of packaging together may cost.

Presentation ceiling · ₹1,000.00 net · worked example
Most that jar + lid + packaging may cost, by candle weight and target margin
Candle (fill) 40% margin 50% margin 60% margin
150 g (fill ₹168.20) ₹281.80 ₹181.80 ₹81.80
300 g (fill ₹324.39) ₹125.61 ₹25.61 none: fill, channel and labour already exceed ₹400.00
500 g (fill ₹544.66) none: fill, channel and labour already exceed ₹600.00 none: fill, channel and labour already exceed ₹500.00 none: fill, channel and labour already exceed ₹400.00

Three things the table settles. A 150 g candle at 50% has ₹181.80 for presentation: Build A's ₹132.15 fits with ₹49.65 to spare, but adding a ₹60.00 rigid box puts it ₹10.35 over. A 300 g candle at 50% has ₹25.61, which does not buy the jar, let alone the lid and box; Build B is ₹226.44 over its ceiling. At 60%, only the 150 g candle has anything left for presentation at all. The margins are illustrative targets, not benchmarks: set yours from your own fixed costs, then read across.

Mistake: fixing the look first (a 300 g iridescent jar, bamboo lid, rigid box and ribbon) and then asking what price it needs, while telling buyers it is a ₹1,000.00 candle. What actually happens: the fill alone is ₹324.39, presentation ₹252.05, and the margin lands at 27.4%, which cannot carry a replacement for a candle broken in transit, a marketplace commission or a promotion. Fix: hold the ₹1,000.00 price and shrink the candle, or keep the 300 g build and price it for what it is. The reverse calculation tells you the price a jar needs.

₹10.00 is one margin point: pricing every upgrade

At ₹1,000.00, the arithmetic is kind: move the decimal point and a cost becomes margin points.

On a ₹1,000.00 net price, one percentage point of margin is exactly ₹10.00. So every upgrade has a price you can read directly in points. Before you add anything to a luxury candle, ask whether the customer will notice it more than they would notice the margin it costs you.

Upgrade costs in margin points · ₹1,000.00 net · worked example
What each common luxury addition costs per candle
Upgrade Cost per candle Margin points
Free shipping: absorb the courier and payment fees ₹90.00 9.0
Rigid gift box (worked example) ₹60.00 6.0
Wooden wick instead of Cotton Braided ₹29.30 2.9
Vanilla Bean instead of Dark Vanilla Oud (12 g) ₹23.46 2.3
Fragrance load 8% → 10% (150 g candle) ₹15.16 1.5
Printed label upgrade (worked example) ₹12.00 1.2
Tissue sheet + candle-care sticker ₹7.33 0.7

Wooden wick: Performance Wooden Wicks at the 100-pack (₹41.30 each) against Cotton Braided at ₹12.00; the wooden wick needs its own burn test in your jar. Vanilla Bean at the 1 kg price is ₹7.65 per gram against Dark Vanilla Oud's ₹5.69. The load step uses the 1 kg oil and 10 kg wax prices. Two readings: free shipping costs more margin than any single glass or packaging upgrade on the list, and the scent upgrades are cheap in points compared with the rigid box. If your candle is judged on scent, spend points there first.

Where the points hide
Check the lines you don't see on the product page: payment fees, replacement candles for transit breakage, samples for corporate buyers and the marketplace's commission. Each is points, not rupees. A ₹1,000.00 candle with free shipping and a 10% promotion has spent 19.0 points before anyone opens the box.

Can the 300 g gift build be rescued at ₹1,000.00?

Build B is the one most makers want: a bigger candle, a bamboo lid, a gift box. Here is what happens if you cut everything that can be cut without changing the jar. Each cut is real, and each changes the product, so treat this as a menu, not a recipe.

Rescuing Build B · ₹1,000.00 net · worked example
Three cuts, taken in turn, and where the margin lands
Step Saving per candle Total cost after Margin after
Build B as costed none ₹726.44 27.4%
Switch 276 g of CSI 468 to CSI 464 (10 kg prices) ₹35.77 ₹690.67 30.9%
Switch 24 g of Dark Vanilla Oud to Jasmine (1 kg prices) ₹42.43 ₹648.24 35.2%
Drop the rigid gift box ₹60.00 ₹588.24 41.2%

Even with all three cuts the 300 g build lands at 41.2%, short of 50%, and it is no longer the candle you designed: a different wax, a different scent family, no gift box. The honest reading is that Build B is not a ₹1,000.00 candle. At 50% it needs ₹1,452.88 net as costed, or ₹1,176.48 with all three cuts. If the 300 g bamboo-lid look is your brand, price it there and keep a 150 g golden-lid candle as your ₹1,000.00 entry point. CSI 464's page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and a pour temperature of 80–90°C, so a switch means a new wick and cure test, not just a new cost line; Jasmine's page says "up to 10% soy".

Two guard-rails for a luxury split

The ceiling tells you what you may spend. These two checks, both our judgement rather than industry rules, tell you whether you should.

1. Margin first, share second

Decide the margin before you look at jars. Every table on this page flows from it; change it afterwards and every other line shifts. If you cannot reach your target with a 150 g build, the problem is not the jar.

2. Presentation below the fill, unless the vessel is the product

When jar, lid and packaging cost more than the wax, oil and wick inside, the customer is mostly paying for glass and cardboard. That can be right for a keepsake vessel or a refillable one, where the jar is the thing they keep (choosing a refill-ready vessel). For a scent-led brand it is a warning. In the worked builds, presentation is below the fill in all three: A ₹132.15 vs ₹168.20; B ₹252.05 vs ₹324.39; C ₹314.45 vs ₹544.66. The guard-rail passes and B and C still fail on margin, which is why margin comes first.

Argued against our own interest: we sell the ₹250.00 700 gm apothecary jar and the 300 g iridescent jar. At ₹1,000.00 with a premium oil, neither is the right jar for a 50% margin. Fix: use them for candles priced for their fill, or for a refill programme where the vessel is sold once. If you want a 150 g candle to look more expensive, the features that read as luxury, and what each costs, are in the luxury-presentation post; lid materials are compared in metal, wooden and glass lids.

Run the split for your own candle

1
Write the net price and margin at the top. Net means after GST and standing discounts. The cost cap is price × (1 − margin): ₹500.00 at 50% on ₹1,000.00.
2
Weigh the fill, then cost it. Use the grams your jar really holds to its fill line, split at your load (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). Why a jar's ml figure is not its candle weight.
3
Add what it costs to reach the customer. Courier, payment fees, marketplace commission, your labour. Use quotes, not hopes. Our worked example uses ₹150.00.
4
Read the presentation ceiling. Cost cap − fill − channel and labour. If it is below your jar's price, stop and change the size, oil or price.
5
Spend the ceiling in order. Jar and lid first, then the shipper that protects it, then the pieces that show (label, tissue, gift box). Price each addition in margin points.
6
Check the two guard-rails and test-fit. Presentation below fill; margin at target. Then put the lidded jar in the box you costed; a box that does not fit is a cost you pay twice.

The jars, wax and oil in the builds

These are the CSI products behind Builds A, B and C. Tissue (₹650.00 for 100 sheets), candle-care stickers (₹413.00 for 500) and the two shipper boxes are in packaging and on the product pages linked in the table; crinkle paper filler is out of stock in every colour on 26 September 2026.

Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
Build A's jar. The page states "150g fill capacity", height 8 cm, outer diameter 7 cm, a base of about 6.5 cm, a golden metal lid included, and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" (the page's wording). CSI 468's page gives a pour temperature of 58–60°C, well inside that figure; the lower of the two stated limits always governs. At ₹94.40 with the lid it is the single largest line in A's presentation budget and still leaves ₹49.65 of headroom under the 50% ceiling. Limitation: its page calls it both curved and straight-sided, and a 150 g candle at ₹1,000.00 has to earn its price through scent and finish, not size. Measure one jar before you design the label.

Green Iridescent jar with bamboo lid - 300g
The page says only "300g glass jar, natural bamboo lid. Capacity - 300g Diameter - 7cm Height - 10cm". It does not say whether 300 g is wax or water, brim or fill line, or whether 7 cm is outside, and it gives no heat figure, so treat it as untested glass: measure, then run full burn-downs. At ₹150.00 for jar and lid it is a fair price for the look; what hurts Build B is the 300 g of CSI 468 and Dark Vanilla Oud inside it (₹324.39). The White Iridescent sister is out of stock on 26 September 2026, and this listing is sold singly, so confirm stock depth on WhatsApp before promising 100 gift sets.

Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid
Build C's jar, and a lesson in why size, not glass, sets the cost. The page states a dome glass lid, "thick-walled", height about 10.8 cm without the lid and 13.2 cm with it, outer rim and base about 10 cm, "Fill capacity: ~500 g - 700 g (2 sizes)" and "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C". It gives one set of dimensions for two sizes, so weigh the fill of the size you buy. At ₹1,000.00 it does not work with this oil: Build C costs ₹9.11 more than the price. It belongs on a candle priced well above that, or on a lighter fill with a cheaper oil. Limitation: a jar about 10 cm across (outer rim, per the page; measure the inside yourself) will usually need a multi-wick test (one, two or three wicks).

Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
We costed the luxury builds with CSI 468 because its page states "Fragrance Load Up to 13%", "Pour Temperature 58°C – 60°C" and "Melting Point 50°C – 53°C", and describes a "creamy" finish. The 13% is a formulation ceiling, not a target; Dark Vanilla Oud's page says 6–10% for candles, and the lower of the two governs, so test at 6%, 8% and 10%. At the 10 kg price it is ₹0.64 per gram against ₹0.51 for CSI 464. Argued against our own interest: switching Build A to CSI 464 would save ₹17.89 per candle, 1.8 margin points, and it is a real option if your burn tests prefer it.

Gifting season: Diwali and Christmas at ₹1,000.00

₹1,000.00 is a common gift budget, and gifting buyers add requirements that cost points: a gift box, a message card, a ribbon, sometimes individual shipping to recipients. Diwali is on 8 November 2026 (43 days after 26 September 2026) and Christmas on 25 December 2026 (90 days). If you are quoting corporate or hamper buyers at ₹1,000.00, cost the gift box and the delivery model into the split before you quote, not after the order is signed.

What gifting buyers add · worked example

Rigid gift box (worked example) ₹60.00 49.0%
Rigid box + a 10% volume discount ₹60.00 + ₹100.00 43.3% of the discounted price
Bulk delivery to one address (no per-candle courier) saves ₹90.00 64.0%

The last row is why bulk gifting can carry a rigid box that single online orders cannot: one delivery to one office removes the courier line from every candle. The row assumes the whole ₹90.00 courier-and-fees line goes; if the bulk order still carries payment or freight charges, put them back in. Quote the two models separately. Jar choices for a range that has to serve retail, wedding and corporate buyers at once are in the one-jar-for-every-channel post.

The CSI principle
Hold the price, then fit the candle to it.
At ₹1,000.00, the jar, lid and packaging can have what the margin and the fill leave, and not a rupee more. When the look you want does not fit, change the size or the price before you change the scent.
"At ₹1,000.00 every ten rupees is a point of margin. Spend them where the customer can smell them first."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars, wax, oil, wicks and packaging costed here and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you two of our larger jars do not fit a ₹1,000.00 premium candle at 50%, that a cheaper CSI wax saves margin, and that you should test the oil at 100 g before buying a kilo. That is deliberate: a split that holds its margin is one you will keep producing.

Every CSI price, per-jar and per-gram figure was verified on the live store on 26 September 2026; every pack in a pick table is in stock on that date, and out-of-stock items (White Iridescent jar, crinkle paper filler) are named. Capacity, dimension and heat wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent or gives one set of dimensions for two sizes, we say so.

The ₹1,000.00 net price, the margin targets, courier and payment fees, labour, the label, the rigid gift box, the discount and the 10% promotion are worked-example inputs, not industry data; the guard-rails and the "₹10.00 is a point" framing are editorial judgement. Frequently asked questions

What percentage of a candle's cost should be the jar?
There is no fixed figure. In our worked example, jar, lid and packaging came to about a third of total cost across three very different ₹1,000.00 builds (29.3%, 34.7%, 31.2%). What decides whether that works is the margin left after the fill.
How much can I spend on packaging for a ₹1,000.00 candle?
At a 50% margin in our example, jar, lid and all packaging together can cost about ₹181.80 for a 150 g candle, and only ₹25.61 for a 300 g one. Subtract your jar and lid; the rest is for box, tissue, label and shipper.
Is a rigid gift box worth it on a ₹1,000.00 candle?
At a worked-example ₹60.00 it costs six margin points. In Build A it takes the candle ₹10.35 over a 50% ceiling if you also courier it; for bulk gifting delivered to one address it can fit, because the courier line disappears.
What margin should a luxury candle have?
We don't publish an industry benchmark. Pick a target that covers your fixed costs, samples, breakage and promotions. This page shows 40%, 50% and 60% so you can see what each leaves for jar, lid and packaging.
Is a bigger candle better value for a ₹1,000.00 price?
For the customer, maybe; for your margin, usually not. In the worked example a 300 g candle's fill (₹324.39) is nearly double the 150 g candle's (₹168.20), and the 500 g build costs ₹9.11 more than the price before any profit.
Should my ₹1,000.00 candle price include GST?
This page treats ₹1,000.00 as your net price after GST. If ₹1,000.00 is what the customer pays including GST, work out your net figure with your accountant and run the same table on it. CSI issues a GST invoice on request.
Your ₹1,000.00 split, costed
A 150 g candle in a golden-lid jar keeps 55.0%; a 300 g gift build keeps 27.4%.
Write your margin at the top, weigh your fill, and read your presentation ceiling before you choose the jar. Start the test with ten Clear Glass Jars with Golden Lid, 1 kg of CSI 468 and 100 g of Dark Vanilla Oud, and cost the result on real grams.
