I run a small candle business and want to add a spa collection. What should I buy, and how much should I spend?
If you have not smelled these oils, buy the sample kit (₹2,076.50): 15 g each of Eucalyptus Spearmint, Cucumber Green Tea, Verbena, Lavender and Sandalwood, with 1 kg of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, ten 150 g clear jars and ten C1 wicks — one test candle per oil and five jars spare. If you already know the spa style and want to sell, go straight to the launch kit (₹9,967.90): 100 g of each oil and materials for 40 candles, eight per scent, which is enough to pour a test at 6%, 8% and 10% and still have five saleable candles of each at 8%. Buy the production kit (₹49,169.20, 205 candles) only after the launch kit has sold through, and then only in the scents that sold. All five oils state a candle load up to 10%, the same as CSI 464's stated ceiling, and every size of every oil is in stock on 24 September 2026, so the kit scales without substitutions.

"Per candle, materials" is oil at that kit's bottle price, 138 g of CSI 464, one clear jar and one C1 wick, and excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. The kit totals include a few extras (spare jars, wick stickers, a safety-label roll), so kit total divided by candles is slightly higher than the per-candle figure. Argued against our own interest: most businesses reading this should buy Kit 2, not Kit 3. Kit 3 costs ₹49,169.20 for 205 candles you have not sold; Kit 2 costs ₹9,967.90 for 40 you can sell in a month and learn from. The per-candle saving from Kit 2 to Kit 3 is a few rupees of oil. We sell the 500 g bottles; we would still rather you bought them after Kit 2 told you which three of the five to buy them in.

A 15 g bottle is one 150 g candle at 8% (12 g of oil) with 3 g left for a blotter strip. That is why this kit cannot tell you a load: you get one candle, at one load. It is still worth buying if you are unsure about spa as a category, because it costs less than a single 500 g bottle of Lavender (₹2,620.00). The 15 g is the dearest size per gram on every oil here — Cucumber Green Tea is ₹6.21 per gram at 15 g and ₹3.53 at 50 g — so do not reorder at this size.
Use the spare jars

Forty candles is the smallest batch that can tell you what sells.

How to use the eight candles per scent: pour three at 6%, 8% and 10% (9 g, 12 g and 15 g of oil, 141 g, 138 g and 135 g of wax), cure them, burn them, choose the load, then pour the remaining five at that load and put them on sale. At 8% that is 36 g for the test and 60 g for the five saleable candles: 96 g of the 100 g. If an oil's chosen load is 10%, the 64 g left makes four saleable candles, not five. Sell the five, note which scent went first, and let that decide Kit 3.

Pour the test candles first, all five scents on one dayFifteen candles: each oil at 6%, 8% and 10% of total weight in CSI 464 (stated up to 10%, matching every kit oil's page maximum). Label oil, load, wick and date on each jar before pouring. The wax page states melt and pour at 80–90°C; keep it identical for all fifteen.

Cure for a weekNone of the five oil pages states a cure time. At least 48–72 hours is common practice and longer is common for soy; test at day 3 and day 7 and judge on day 7.

Burn one candle per sessionSame room, door closed, two hours. Note the doorway scent at 30, 60 and 120 minutes, soot and melt pool. The C1 wick is a starting point; if the melt pool does not reach the glass edge, test a Thick (C2) wick from the Candle Wicks collection.

Choose the lowest load that passes, per oilFresh oils (Eucalyptus Spearmint, Verbena) may need 10%; the woods and florals often pass lower. Record the load; it becomes the kit's recipe.

Pour the 25 saleable candles and put them on sale togetherFive per scent, at each oil's chosen load, same jar, same label style. Selling them side by side is the test; selling them one at a time tells you about the week, not the scent.

Why 500 g and not 1 kg? On three of the five oils there is no per-gram reason to go bigger: Cucumber Green Tea (₹3.33), Lavender (₹5.24 against ₹5.22) and Sandalwood (₹5.03) cost the same or almost the same per gram at 500 g and 1 kg. On Eucalyptus Spearmint the 1 kg is 7.1% cheaper per gram than the 500 g, and on Verbena 4.8%; those two are the only oils where a kilogram is worth considering, and only if they were your top sellers in Kit 2. Buying each oil as a 1 kg instead of a 500 g would lower the cost of the 2.5 kg you actually use by a combined ₹245.50, and leave another 2.5 kg of unproved oil on your shelf. Mistake: buying Kit 3 with all five oils at 500 g when Kit 2 showed two scents barely sold. Fix: Kit 3 is a template, not a bundle. Buy 500 g of the three winners and 100 g of the others, or drop them. CSI sells every bottle separately, so a production kit that matches your sales is always possible.

The scent that makes the kit read "spa" at a sniff. The page describes "crisp eucalyptus with cool spearmint", states "Recommended fragrance load up to 10% for soy wax, up to 6% for paraffin", and describes the oil as "A refreshing, IFRA-certified eucalyptus spearmint fragrance oil". Its ladder falls at every size, to ₹3.07 per gram at 1 kg, the lowest per-gram price in the kit. Limitation: the page lists no base notes, so test it carefully at 8% and 10% before it goes into a production pour.

Cucumber Green Tea
The gift-friendly fresh scent in the kit. Stated notes: "Top Notes: Crisp cucumber, fresh green tea leaves | Heart Notes: Delicate jasmine, hints of lemon | Base Notes: Clean musk, light woods". The page says "we recommend using 8-10% fragrance oil per pound of wax"; treat that as 8–10% of total candle weight and stay within 10%. Its 50 g and 100 g cost the same per gram, and so do its 500 g and 1 kg. Limitation: no IFRA wording on the page, so request documents before selling to a spa or hotel client.

Verbena Fragrance Oil
The citrus lift, chosen for the kit over Lemongrass and Lime because it scales more cheaply: ₹4.72 per gram at 1 kg against ₹5.20. The page states "Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones" and "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". It earns its place when the Indian summer arrives (roughly April to June). Limitation: no base notes are named, so it may fade faster in a long burn than a citrus with a stated base; if your Kit 2 burns show that, swap it for Lemongrass and Lime (priced below).

Lavender Fragrance Oil
The evening scent, and in our judgement the spa scent customers recognise most easily. The page states "fresh lavender top notes, herbal green mid notes, and soft musk base", "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles", and describes the oil as "A strong, IFRA-certified lavender fragrance oil". It is also the spa oil with the most published CSI reviews. Limitation: it is the dearest oil in the production kit, and its ladder is nearly flat after 50 g (₹5.40 to ₹5.22 per gram), so bulk buys very little discount. Describe it by scent, never by effect.

Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
The warm end of the kit. The page describes a "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone" and states "Recommended load up to 10% for soy, up to 6% for paraffin". Chosen over Sage and Cedarwood for the kit because it is sold at 15 g and priced flat at ₹5.03 per gram from 100 g to 1 kg, so it costs the same per gram in Kit 2 as in Kit 3. Limitation: it is a single note with no herbal lift, so it reads warmer and less "spa" than sage and cedar.

For a business whose spa customers want a floral. The page states "Sweet, rich, and floral with creamy undertones" and "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". Two notes on the swaps. Sage and Cedarwood's 1 kg costs more per gram than its 500 g (₹6,867.60 against ₹2,584.20), so if you swap it in, keep buying it in 500 g packs and ask on WhatsApp before any kilogram. And the wax swap is the one we would not make for these five oils: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 allow up to 13%, but the lower of the two ceilings governs, and every kit oil's page stops at 10%. You would pay for headroom you cannot use.
Gaps the kit cannot fill
CSI does not list a white tea, bamboo, fresh linen or single-note peppermint oil on 24 September 2026, so no kit here includes one. Mogra and Rajnigandha, which some Indian spa lines use, are out of stock at every size on that date. What fragrance oils should be in a spa candle collection kit?
A cool aromatic, a fresh green, a citrus-herbal, a lavender and a wood. At CSI: Eucalyptus Spearmint, Cucumber Green Tea, Verbena, Lavender and Sandalwood, all with a stated candle load up to 10% and all in stock at every size from 15 g to 1 kg on 24 September 2026.
How much does it cost to start a spa candle collection in India?
At CSI live pricing: a sample kit for five test candles is ₹2,076.50; a launch kit for 40 candles is ₹9,967.90; a production kit for 205 candles is ₹49,169.20. All exclude freight and GST; tools, if you need them, add ₹1,239.00.
Does CSI sell a ready-made spa fragrance oil kit?
No. CSI sells each oil, wax, jar and wick separately, so these kits are carts you build yourself. The upside is that every line can be swapped or scaled to match what sells.
What is the cost per candle for a spa candle business?
Worked example, 150 g at 8% in CSI 464 with a clear jar and C1 wick: ₹244.90 at 15 g oil prices, ₹226.47 at 100 g, ₹222.77 at 500 g, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST. The jar is the largest single cost.
Should I buy 100 g or 500 g fragrance oils for my first spa collection?
100 g of each for a first launch: eight candles per scent, enough for a three-load test and five to sell. Move to 500 g only in the scents that sold. On Cucumber Green Tea, Lavender and Sandalwood the 500 g and 1 kg are close to the same per gram, so bigger bottles save little.
Can I use Lemongrass and Lime instead of Verbena in a spa kit?
Yes. Swapping Lemongrass and Lime for Verbena and Sage and Cedarwood for Sandalwood costs ₹193.52 more in the launch kit and ₹192.80 more in the production kit. Lemongrass and Lime has a stated cedar-musk base; Verbena is cheaper at 1 kg.
