Fragrance Oil Supplier for Candle Businesses in Mumbai: what should you know?
A Mumbai candle business needs GST invoices, IFRA certificates and MSDS from its supplier, a short core range held at depth, and a costing for every order. CSI provides the documents on request. For the example order — 300 × 180 g tin — the core materials come to ₹48,388 before vessel, packaging, labour, freight and GST.
One line: documents, consistency and a costed quote are what separate a candle business from a candle hobby.
Core oil for a Mumbai range: Blue Ocean, ₹4,956.00 per kg.

The paperwork a Mumbai candle business needs from its oil supplier

A business buyer needs three things a hobbyist does not: documents, consistency and a cost that holds for a whole order.
Documents
What to collect and keep
Document Why How
GST invoice Input tax credit; clean books On request at order
IFRA certificate Shows the oil's safe use level; corporate buyers ask On WhatsApp request, per oil
MSDS / SDS Handling and storage data; some venues and insurers ask On WhatsApp request, per oil
Batch record (yours) Lets you trace a complaint to a batch Your own log: oil, bottle date, load, wax, wick
Price record (yours) Keeps your quote honest when oil prices change Save the product page price on the day you buy

Because CSI and Mumbai are both in Maharashtra, a GST invoice for a Mumbai delivery is an intra-state invoice, split into CGST and SGST. Share your GSTIN when you order so the invoice matches your registration.

Designing a core range you can supply every month

A candle business in Mumbai — where demand leans towards corporate and client gifting, café and restaurant retail, weddings, and a large base of home-studio sellers on Instagram — is better served by five or six core oils held at depth than by twenty held thinly. Our suggested core for Mumbai: Blue Ocean, Lemongrass and Lime, Sandalwood, Roasted Coffee, Jasmine, Woody Oud.

1
Core (always in stock)Two or three best-sellers held by the kilogram.
2
SeasonalTwo or three oils brought in for the calendar — Ganesh Chaturthi has just passed; the next big buying window is the Navratri–Diwali run, followed by year-end corporate gifting.
3
ExperimentalOne or two oils at 50–100 g, tested before they earn a place in the core.
4
Review quarterlyDrop what does not sell; promote what does.

Costing an order before you quote it

Example: a Bandra café that wants a house candle for its counter, 300 × 180 g tin. At 8% each candle needs 14.4 g of oil and 166 g of wax.

Worked costing (example)
300 candles, core materials only
Line Per candle × 300
Fragrance oil (Blue Ocean, 1 kg price) ₹71.37 ₹21,410
Wax (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes)) ₹84.03 ₹25,208
Wick (Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1)) ₹5.90 ₹1,770
Core materials ₹161.29 ₹48,388

That excludes the vessel, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST, which usually add more than the materials above. Quote from the full unit cost. How to price candles in India in 2026 covers the rest.

Consistency is the business requirement. Keep one batch of oil for one order where you can — buy the whole order's oil at once — and log the bottle date on every batch. If a customer ever reports a difference, your log tells you whether it was the oil, the load or the wick.

A Mumbai business, worked through

Café or restaurant with a house candle. One signature scent that matches the menu and a reorder every few months. Consistency matters more than range.

Say that buyer pours 300 candles of 180 g. At 8% each candle takes 14.4 g of oil, so the run needs 4.32 kg — about 4.3 kg in total, split across however many scents the run carries. If it were all Roasted Coffee, the oil would cost about ₹16,148 at the 1 kg price.

Example buyer · Mumbai
Café or restaurant with a house candle: three oils, costed
Oil 1 kg Oil per 180 g candle Candles per kg Oil for 300 (single scent)
Roasted Coffee ₹3,738.00 ₹53.83 69 ₹16,148.16
Vanilla Bean ₹7,646.00 ₹110.10 69 ₹33,030.72
Dark Vanilla ₹7,646.00 ₹110.10 69 ₹33,030.72

A second Mumbai buyer: home-studio seller shipping across mumbai. Small runs, many scents, fast Instagram turnover. Keep most oils at 100 g and only the top seller at 1 kg; a 150 g tin is a popular gifting size. For 120 candles of 150 g at 8%, the oil comes to 1.44 kg — with Blue Ocean at ₹4,956.00 per kg, about ₹7,137.

What Mumbai changes about running a candle business

Mumbai is coastal and humid for most of the year, with one of the heaviest south-west monsoons of any Indian metro from June to September and a mild, short winter. Humidity, not heat, is Mumbai's issue. Fragrance oil does not absorb moisture, but wicks, labels and cartons do — so a Mumbai studio buying oil by the kilogram should also be storing wicks and packaging sealed through the monsoon.

Mumbai through the year
Three seasons, three different jobs for a Mumbai maker
Months Conditions What to do
March–May Hot and very humid pre-monsoon Keep finished stock off sun-facing walls; test your load for sweating before a summer run.
June–September Heavy south-west monsoon Seal wicks, labels and cartons; wrap outer cartons for courier handovers in the rain.
October–February Warm, drier, short mild winter The best pouring and shipping window of the year — and it coincides with Diwali and year-end gifting.

Mumbai buyers often mean the whole MMR: a studio in Thane and a corporate client in Nariman Point are both 'Mumbai' orders. Give us the delivery pin code when you ask about timing.

Space is the constraint most Mumbai studios mention. A kilogram of oil takes up very little room; forty kilograms of wax and three hundred jars do not. Plan oil around the jar and wax you can physically store, not the other way round.

A coastal, humid city rewards fresh and aquatic profiles in summer and warmer woods in the October–February season. That suggests a two-season range rather than one year-round list.

Mild temperatures mean soy sets predictably; the risk is warm, humid rooms pushing a heavily loaded candle to sweat. Stay at or below the wax maker's stated maximum. Ganesh Chaturthi has just passed; the next big buying window is the Navratri–Diwali run, followed by year-end corporate gifting.

Argue against interest
A short range sells more than a long one.
Twenty thinly stocked scents look impressive and sell unevenly. Five at depth are easier to keep in stock, price and reorder.
Documents, consistency and a costed quote.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. CSI is based in Pune and ships to Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and the wider MMR — order online, delivered to your door. We publish every pack price, so the per-gram and per-candle figures here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger pack is not cheaper.

Every price here is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing takes precedence. Items out of stock on that pull are marked rather than offered.

Assumptions: Candle maths use an illustrative 8% fragrance load by weight (16 g of oil and 184 g of wax in a 200 g candle), which is within the stated range of every oil on this page that publishes one; "per candle" material costs include oil, wax and wick only and exclude the vessel, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Worked examples (e.g. "a Bandra café that wants a house candle for its counter") are illustrations, not customers. Per-gram comparisons use listed prices only.

Calendar: Navratri begins 11 October 2026; Dussehra 20 October 2026; Dhanteras 6 November 2026; Diwali 8 November 2026; Christmas 25 December 2026.
