CSI Wick Buying · Lavender to Oud
Same load, same jar, same wax, different fuel: the lavender wick is a hypothesis for the oud, not an approval. Confirm it, and buy the next rung in the same box so a failed confirm costs three candles instead of another lead time.
₹789.42
Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g + 15 g + Eco C2 10: the one-shipment switch kit · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
I switched from lavender to a heavy oud at the same load. Will the same wick work? Don't assume it. Same load wording, same jar and same wax do not make the same fuel: heavier, resinous and vanilla-rich oils commonly need a wick step up or build more carbon. Confirm it with three candles, and pour three on the next rung up at the same time.

Why buy the bigger wick before I know I need it? Because a failed confirm otherwise costs a whole extra order cycle. In our worked example (a 10-day order-to-bench time, labelled), buying both arms together reads them by day 20; buying the oud first and the wick after a fail reaches the same point on day 40.

What is in the switch kit? Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g + 15 g (₹695.02) and an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40): ₹789.42 in one shipment, with your lavender C1 and CSI 464 from stock. Six 150 g candles at 8%, oil left for a three-candle re-pour.

What does the insurance cost if C1 passes? The three C2 candles, ₹450.78 in materials, and seven spare C2. Against 38 days to Diwali on 1 October 2026, twenty days is often worth more than that.
The short answer
Same wick? Unproven. A lavender approval covers lavender. Test the oud on the lavender wick and one rung up, three candles each, in one pour.
Kit: Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g + 15 g (₹695.02) + Eco C2 10 (₹94.40) = ₹789.42. C1 and wax from your lavender stock.
Why one shipment: a failed C1 confirm then costs no extra lead time, cure or screen: 20 days saved in the worked example.
Approve: all three candles of one arm to about 1 cm left; production wicks only after that.
One shipment or two: what a failed confirm costs in days Worked example from 1 October 2026: your order-to-bench time 10 days (yours may differ; CSI publishes none), cure 7 days, screen after 3 daily burns. Full-life burns follow every screen; they are the same length on both routes and are not drawn. day 0 day 7 day 14 day 21 day 28 day 35 day 42 day 49 Diwali, 8 Nov (day 38) One shipment oud + C2 together in transit pour 6, cure read both arms read by day 20 full-life burns start here Two shipments oud first, C2 later in transit pour 3, cure read C1 fails: order C2 in transit pour 3, cure read day 40 20 days lost: one more lead time, cure and screen The C2 arm costs ₹450.78 in materials if it turns out not to be needed. Twenty days is what it buys back. Worked example only: lead time, cure and burn schedule are labelled assumptions, not CSI figures.
Worked example from 1 October 2026: a 10-day order-to-bench time (your figure; CSI publishes none), a 7-day cure and three daily screening burns. Bought together, the C1 confirm and the C2 up-rung are read side by side by day 20. Bought one after the other, a failed confirm puts the up-rung's screen at day 40, after Diwali. Full-life burns follow the screen on both routes and take the same time, so they are left off.
Straight answer
I changed from lavender to a heavy oud fragrance at the same load. Should I automatically assume the same wick will work?
No. Your wick was approved for lavender at 8% in that jar and wax; an oud at 8% is a different fuel. Heavier, resinous and vanilla-rich oils commonly burn differently on the same wick (a smaller flame, more carbon on the wick, a slower pool), though not always, and nothing on a product page can tell you which way yours will go. So treat the switch as a confirm: three oud candles on the lavender wick. Then make the confirm cheap to fail. Buy the next rung up in the same shipment and pour three oud candles on it alongside. In our worked example the lavender wick is C1, the up-rung is C2, and the kit is Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g + 15 g and an Eco C2 10-pack, ₹789.42 in all. If C1 passes, the C2 candles cost you ₹450.78. If C1 fails, you have lost no time: the answer is already burning next to it.
One line: confirm the oud on the lavender wick, but put the next rung in the same box, because a failed confirm costs days, not rupees.
The switch kit, one shipment: Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g (₹590.00) + 15 g (₹105.02) and an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40). Every item is in stock on 1 October 2026. Need C1 too? The 20-pack is ₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock.

Same load, different fuel

Eight per cent of lavender and eight per cent of oud weigh the same. They do not burn the same.

Both CSI pages here say the same thing about load: Lavender "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles", Dark Vanilla Oud "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles". That shared wording is exactly why the assumption feels safe. But load wording describes how much oil the page expects in a candle, not how that oil burns. Dark Vanilla Oud's listed notes run from "vanilla and spicy cardamom" through "exotic oud and deep amber" to "warm musk and woody cedar": the heavier, resinous, vanilla-led end of the range that makers commonly find needs a wick adjustment. Lavender's ("fresh lavender top notes, herbal green mid notes, and soft musk base") sits at the lighter end. These are tendencies drawn from composition, not measurements; CSI publishes no composition and no wick data for any oil.

What carries over from the lavender approval
Jar, wax and load unchanged · only the oil changed · the full still-valid / must-retest matrix is in the 48xx hub
Evidence Carries over? In the kit
Jar inside diameter, fill, wax, pour temperature Yes Nothing new
Load against ceilings Yes: 8% is inside both pages and CSI 464 (8.70% of wax) Nothing new
C1 approved at 8% No: approved for lavender Three oud candles on C1
"C2 would be too big" Never tested with oud Three oud candles on C2
Throw, colour, cure behaviour No Judged on the same six candles

What changes and what does not when one fragrance replaces another, item by item, is the matrix in the fragrance-change hub. If your oud is already mushrooming on the lavender wick, the diagnosis (oil identity versus load, before any wick change) is the lavender-fine, oud-mushrooms post. Whether one up-rung can then serve every oud in your range is the oud-family rung post; this page buys for one oud.

What heavy oils commonly do on a lighter oil's wick
Watch for a flame that sits lower than the lavender candle's in the same session, a mushroom-shaped carbon head forming within an hour or two, soot on the glass rim, and a pool that is slower to reach the edge. Any one of them on all three C1 candles is a reason to follow the C2 arm. None of them is certain: some heavy oils burn perfectly well on a light oil's wick, which is why you confirm rather than assume either way.
Mistake: reading "6-10% for candles" on both pages as proof the oils are interchangeable on one wick. Why it fails: the load range says nothing about combustion. Two oils with identical wording can need different wicks in the same jar. Fix: treat every new oil as a confirm, however similar its page looks.

The switch kit, line by line

Six candles of oud, two wicks, one box, and enough oil left to redo a cell.

The worked example is your own jar at 7.5 cm inside. CSI has no in-stock jar at that size on 1 October 2026: the three listings that state 7.5 cm (a ceramic container and two bamboo-lid glass jars, all giving a width or an unspecified diameter, not an inside one) are out of stock. A 150 g fill at 8% (12 g of oil, 138 g of wax), poured in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, with lavender approved on C1. A 7.5 cm inside diameter is a 44.18 cm² pool; a very rough rule of thumb (an hour per 2.5 cm) puts a full first pool at about 3.0 hours.

Your 7.5 cm jars 6 (+3) your production jars yours — —
Kit cash oud + C2 in one shipment ₹789.42 from nothing, excl. jars: ₹1,922.22

Why 100 g + 15 g and not 100 g alone (₹684.40 with the wicks)? A single 100 g leaves 28 g after six candles: two candles, not a three-candle cell. The 15 g adds ₹105.02 and means a split cell can be re-poured from the same shipment. Two 50 g bottles (₹640.00) cost more for the same 100 g; 100 g + 50 g (₹910.00) leaves more than the re-pour needs. One test candle costs ₹146.72 on C1 and ₹150.26 on C2 in materials; the six consume ₹890.95, excluding jars.

Don't buy the oud in 500 g or 1 kg for the kit: the 500 g is ₹2,845.00. The per-gram drop from 100 g (₹5.90) to 500 g (₹5.69) is real, but after the kit you would hold 392 g of an oil whose wick you have not approved. Argued against our own interest: buy 100 g + 15 g now; and when you do scale up, two 500 g bottles are ₹1.00 cheaper than our 1 kg.

The real cost of a failed confirm is time

The extra wicks cost rupees. Waiting for them costs a lead time, a cure and a screen.

Here is the arithmetic the diagram draws, with labelled assumptions: an order-to-bench time of 10 days (yours; CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish delivery times, so ask us for a dispatch date), a 7-day cure (Dark Vanilla Oud's page states no cure time in the text we captured; many makers wait about a week before judging soy) and three daily 3–4 hour burns to reach a burn-3 screen.

One shipment vs two · worked example
10-day order-to-bench + 7-day cure + 3 screening burns per cycle · full-life burns identical on both routes · all figures declared
Route Bought up front If C1 passes If C1 fails Up-rung screened by
One shipment (this kit) ₹789.42 Approve C1; 7 spare C2; ₹450.78 of materials spent on the C2 arm C2 already read alongside day 20
Oud first, wick later ₹695.02 (oud only) Approve C1; nothing spare Order C2, wait, pour, cure, screen again day 40

So the up-front C2 arm is an insurance premium of about ₹450.78 in materials plus ₹94.40 of wicks, most of which you keep. What it insures against is 20 days in this example. On 1 October 2026, Diwali is 38 days away: on the one-shipment route both arms are read by day 20, leaving the rest of October for the leader's full-life burns; on the two-shipment route a failed confirm puts the up-rung's first read on day 40, two days after Diwali, with its full life still to run. A longer lead time widens the gap: with a four-week supplier, the logic in the four-week lead-time post applies to test wicks as much as to production stock.

How the gap grows with your lead time · worked examples
Each cycle = order-to-bench + 7-day cure + 3 screening burns · day counted from 1 October 2026 · lead times are yours, not CSI figures
Your order-to-bench time One shipment: both arms read by Two shipments, C1 fails: up-rung read by Second route's first read lands
3 days day 13 day 26 before Diwali (day 38)
5 days day 15 day 30 before Diwali (day 38)
10 days day 20 day 40 after Diwali (day 38)
20 days day 30 day 60 after Diwali (day 38)
28 days day 38 day 76 after Diwali (day 38)

At a three-day turnaround the second route still reads the up-rung before Diwali, though with little time left for its full life; from about ten days onwards it does not. The full-life burns that follow a screen need the same days on either route, so the table understates nothing: whatever the gap at the screen, it carries through to approval.

When two shipments are fine
No deadline, a short order-to-bench time, and a lavender line that keeps selling while you test: then buying the oud first and the wick only if needed saves ₹94.40 and three candles. The kit is for makers whose calendar is tighter than their budget.

Running the six candles

Change the oil, nothing else. The lavender line is your control for jar, wax and room.
1
Pour all six from one pot828 g of CSI 464 and 72 g of Dark Vanilla Oud, mixed once, poured at the temperature you use for lavender (the page states 80–90°C).
2
Label and keep a lavender candle beside themBases marked C1-a/b/c and C2-a/b/c. A lavender candle from current stock burned in the same session tells you whether a bad day is the room or the oud.
3
Cure all six togetherAbout a week is common practice before judging soy; keep them on one shelf.
4
Burn 3–4 hour sessions, trimmedAbout 5–6 mm before every burn, still air, full cool-down, within sight. Heavy oils commonly build carbon: note the wick head after each session.
5
Screen at burn 3, then follow the leaderRing width, pool depth, flame height, carbon, soot; near the bottom, how close the flame runs to the glass, judged by eye, never by touch.
One line on the batch sheet saves a retest later
Write down the oud's bottle size and order date, the wick pack each candle came from, the wax bag, pour temperature and cure dates. If a later oud order behaves differently on the approved wick, that sheet is what lets you compare like with like; lot questions for CSI go to WhatsApp, since CSI publishes no batch data.

After the screen: what each result buys

The kit already holds the next step for every likely result. That was the point of buying it together.

Approval follows the two-gate rule in the cluster hub: a screen at burn 3, then all three candles of one arm to about 1 cm left.

Result → purchase (our judgement, labelled)
Three oud candles per arm · production only after a full-life pass
At burn 3 Reading Purchase consequence
C1 reaches the glass cleanly; C2 runs a tall flame or deep pool The lavender wick carries the oud One wick for both lines; 7 C2 go to other tests
C1 rings or carbons heavily; C2 reaches the glass cleanly Oud needs the up-rung Burn C2 to the end, then a C2 production order for the oud line only
Both look clean Not decided Burn both to the end; the final third usually separates them
Only 1 or 2 of 3 pass in an arm Not decided Re-pour that arm from the kit: the 15 g is there for this
C2 still rings in a 7.5 cm jar Rule out other causes before a bigger wick Check centring and session length first; then ask us before buying a bigger wick
Mistake: moving the lavender line to C2 "to keep one wick". Why it fails: the lavender candle was approved on C1; on C2 it may run hot, and that would be a new, unapproved product. Fix: two lines, two approved wicks, until a lavender-on-C2 set has passed the full life. Whether the second wick is worth stocking for one oil, or whether the oud should run at a different load instead, is the stock-it-or-change-the-load post.

The oud line in production

Approval buys one line: this jar, CSI 464, Dark Vanilla Oud at 8%, one wick.

Size the order from production: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), with 5% as our worked-example allowance. At 120 oud candles a month on C2 that is 126 wicks (₹1,189.44), a 100 + 20 + 10 of C2 (₹1,227.20, 130 wicks), flat at ₹9.44 each. The oud is 1,440 g a month, ₹8,195.04 at the 1 kg per-gram price; buy it as 500 g bottles if you want the ₹1.00. Per candle at production prices, lavender on C1 costs ₹138.57; oud on C1 ₹144.21; oud on C2 ₹147.75, ₹9.18 more than the lavender candle, of which ₹3.54 is the wick and ₹5.64 the oil. The C2 step adds ₹424.80 a month at this volume.

Reorder point = daily use × your lead time + safety stock: about 4.2 wicks a day × 10 days + a week of cover puts it at about 71 C2. Set it separately from the C1 point for lavender. Reorder points for several wick sizes at once are the reorder-point post.

Don't buy the C2 1,000-pack because the oud passed: at 126 a month it is 7.9 months of stock at the same ₹9.44 per wick as the 10-pack, and the next oil you add may change the picture again. A month plus safety stock is enough.

What to buy, and what to leave

Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 12 g per 150 g candle at 8%. A cheaper oud for a later family test, Woody Oud, is ₹453.12 for 100 g; it is not in this kit.

In the text we captured it states no vanillin content and no cure time. Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026. Pricing fact: the 1 kg (₹5,691.00) costs ₹1.00 more than two 500 g bottles (₹5,690.00). Limitation: the one review on this oil is unverified and speaks to smell, not to burn.

If your lavender jar is 8 cm or wider and your lavender wick is already C2, Cotton Braided is your up-rung instead, and the kit is Cotton Braided 10 + the oud. Flat at ₹12.00 a wick.

The CSI principle
Buy the next rung with the new oil.
A new fragrance is a new fuel. Confirm it on the wick you have, but put the up-rung in the same box: a failed confirm should cost three candles, not another lead time.
"Same percentage, same jar, same wax. Different oil. That is a new candle."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, wicks and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to skip the bigger wick when you have no deadline, that our C2 20-pack is not needed for this kit, and that two 500 g bottles of this oud cost less than our 1 kg.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged where it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Oil, wax and wick wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, such as the oud's cure time and vanillin content, we say so.

The 7.5 cm jar (yours; CSI's three 7.5 cm listings are out of stock), 150 g fill, lead time, cure, screening schedule, 5% allowance and 120-candle month are labelled worked examples or our judgement; CSI publishes no delivery times and no wick-performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same wick for every fragrance at the same percentage?
Not without testing. The same load of a heavier oil, such as an oud or a vanilla, commonly burns differently from a light floral or herbal on the same wick. Confirm each new oil with three candles on your current wick.
Does oud fragrance need a bigger wick?
Often, but not always: resinous and vanilla-rich oils commonly need a step up or build more carbon. That is why the switch kit includes the next rung (C2 here) alongside the current one.
How much Dark Vanilla Oud do I need to test six candles?
At 8% in a 150 g candle, 12 g per candle: 72 g for six. A 100 g bottle plus a 15 g (₹695.02) covers the six and a three-candle re-pour.
Should I order test wicks and fragrance together?
If time matters, yes. In our worked example, ordering the up-rung with the oil means both are read by day 20; ordering it after a failed confirm pushes that to day 40.
What load does Dark Vanilla Oud recommend for candles?
The page says "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles". Your wax's own ceiling also applies: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states up to 10%.
Are bigger wick packs cheaper per wick?
Not for Eco C1, Eco C2 or Cotton Braided: ₹5.90, ₹9.44 and ₹12.00 a wick in every pack. Buy the pack that covers the test, then size production by the formula.
Your lavender-to-oud switch kit
Dark Vanilla Oud 100 g + 15 g + Eco C2 10 = ₹789.42, in one shipment.
Three oud candles on your lavender wick, three on the rung above, one pour, oil left for a re-pour. Approve the arm that finishes all three candles. Order on WhatsApp and we will confirm a dispatch date before you pay.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing wick behaviour (5521–5540). It covers switching a candle from lavender to a heavy oud at the same load: why the lavender approval does not carry over, a one-shipment switch kit (confirm on the current wick, up-rung arm, oud grams for six candles and a re-pour), the time a failed confirm costs on a two-shipment route, a result-to-purchase table and the oud line's production order.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Dark Vanilla Oud, Eco Candle Wicks, Lavender Fragrance Oil, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the wick-purchase advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Renam Dhoundiyal, Payal Patel, Anonymous, Judy Roy. The reviews from SUMAN BISHT, Ashwini are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.
