I Want to Launch a Spa Candle Collection — Which 5–10 Fragrances Should I Test Before Buying in Bulk?
Aktie
Which ten? Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lavender, Cucumber Green Tea, Lemongrass and Lime, Sandalwood, Verbena, Blue Ocean, Ylang Ylang, Palo Santo and Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon (CSI's listing name for this oil; CSI is not affiliated with any brand of that name, so keep it off your labels) — ranked below on stated load, per-gram price, stock depth and role. All ten are in stock at every listed size on 24 September 2026.
What does testing cost? Round 1 (ten oils at 15 g, with wax, jars and wicks): ₹2,999.24. Round 2 (six survivors at 50 g, three loads each): ₹6,874.61 in the worked example. Both rounds: ₹9,873.85.
When do I buy bulk? Only for the three oils that survive both rounds, and only after a decision date you set in advance. For Eucalyptus Spearmint the 1 kg is 28% cheaper per gram than the 50 g, so that is a genuine bulk buy; for Blue Ocean, bigger is not cheaper at all.

Why a funnel beats a shortlist
Spa, as a candle style, is eucalyptus and mint, green tea and cucumber, lemongrass and verbena, soft florals and clean woods: fresh, green and quiet rather than sweet or smoky. The hub, Buy Spa Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India, explains the style and gives the shortlist; this page is for the buyer who has read it and now has to decide which of those scents deserve money, in what order.
The reason to test ten rather than five is that spa is the style where your own nose is least reliable. Fresh top notes — citrus, mint, green — are the first part of a fragrance a burning candle spends, so the oils that smell best from the bottle are often the ones that fade fastest in the room. How spa families behave in soy is covered in Luxury Spa Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles; the practical consequence is that you need more candidates going in, because more of them will fail on the burn. The reason to bulk only three is the opposite problem: spa scents overlap, and three strong, distinct scents sell better than six that customers cannot tell apart.
| Stage | Oils | Size | Candles poured | Spend | Question answered |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 10 | 15 g | 10 (one at 8%) | ₹2,999.24 | Does it belong in a spa line at all? |
| Round 2 | 6 | 50 g | 24 (6%, 8%, 10%, retest) | ₹6,874.61 | What is its lowest working load, and which role does it win? |
| Round 3 | 3 | 500 g / 1 kg | 100 / 250 / 500 | ₹24,330.46 / ₹59,629.26 / ₹118,265.40 | How much can I sell before the next order? |
| After launch | 3 (+1 rotating) | reorder packs | ongoing | per trigger | Reorder, upgrade to 1 kg, or retire? |
The ten to test, ranked
Ranked on what we can show: whether the product page states a candle load, per-gram price at 1 kg (the price you will pay if the oil survives), stock depth across sizes on 24 September 2026, and how distinct its role is from the others. Rank is test order and a prior, not a verdict: your burns decide. CSI has no throw measurements for these oils.
| # | Oil | Role | Stated candle load | 15 g | ₹/g at 1 kg | Stock | Why it is on the list |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil | cool mint-eucalyptus | up to 10% soy | ₹68.44 | ₹3.07 | all sizes in stock | cheapest per gram at 1 kg of the ten; page calls it IFRA-certified |
| 2 | Lavender Fragrance Oil | herbal floral | 6–10% candles | ₹105.02 | ₹5.22 | all sizes in stock | in our judgement, the spa family buyers most often expect |
| 3 | Cucumber Green Tea | green tea | "8-10% … per pound of wax" | ₹93.22 | ₹3.33 | all sizes in stock | the fresh-tea note; flat after 500 g |
| 4 | Lemongrass and Lime | citrus-herbal | 6–10% candles | ₹116.52 | ₹5.20 | all sizes in stock | ginger and cedar under the citrus: more structure than most |
| 5 | Sandalwood Fragrance Oil | soft wood | up to 10% soy | ₹93.22 | ₹5.03 | all sizes in stock | the base that makes a spa line feel finished |
| 6 | Verbena Fragrance Oil | citrus-herbal | up to 10% soy | ₹106.20 | ₹4.72 | all sizes in stock | lemony herbal; strong 1 kg saving |
| 7 | Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil | aquatic | up to 10% candles | ₹93.22 | ₹4.96 | all sizes in stock | sea-salt ozone; bigger is not cheaper per gram |
| 8 | Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil | rich floral | up to 10% soy | ₹106.20 | ₹5.31 | all sizes in stock | sweet, creamy floral for the evening treatment room |
| 9 | Palo Santo Fragrance Oil | resinous wood | up to 10% soy | ₹106.20 | ₹6.02 | all sizes in stock | earthy incense note; flat per gram from 50 g |
| 10 | Jasmine Coconut | creamy floral | not stated | ₹133.00 | ₹8.00 | all sizes in stock | coconut milk and jasmine sambac; no candle load stated |
Three pairs are deliberately on the list together because they do the same job differently: Lemongrass and Lime vs Verbena (citrus-herbal), Sandalwood vs Palo Santo (the wood base), and Ylang Ylang vs Jasmine Coconut (the floral). Round 2 keeps only one of each pair. Left off the ten, with reasons: Sage and Cedarwood has no 15 g, so it cannot enter a 15 g screen (test it in Round 2 if it is your wood preference); Neroli reads hotel reception more than treatment room, in our judgement; and Lavender Oud – Calm Meets Kingdom starts at 100 g for ₹1,200.00, is a perfume-grade listing with no candle load stated, and costs ₹12.00/g at 1 kg.

Round 1: the 15 g screen
Round 1 is deliberately crude. A 15 g bottle makes exactly one 150 g candle at 8% (12 g of oil), with 3 g left for a cold sniff from the bottle. You are not finding the best load yet; you are removing oils that would never sell in a spa line whatever the load. The screen uses Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — its page gives a pour temperature of 58–60°C and a maximum load of 13% — but every one of these oils with a stated load tops out at 10%, and the lower of the two ceilings governs, so 10% is your working ceiling throughout.
| Item | What you buy | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Ten spa oils | 15 g each (list above) | ₹1,021.24 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 1 kg + 500 g (1.38 kg needed) | ₹975.00 |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) | pack of 10 | ₹944.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 10 wicks | ₹59.00 |
| Round 1 total | 10 candles | ₹2,999.24 |
The Round 1 kill rules
Decide these before the parcel arrives. An oil leaves the funnel if any of the following is true.
| Rule | How you judge it | Typical casualty (our expectation, not data) |
|---|---|---|
| K1 · Wrong style | Two of three blind testers do not call it "spa", "fresh" or "clean" from the jar | Rich florals and aquatics |
| K2 · Flat hot | Doorway score below 3 of 5 at one hour, at 8% | Sharp top notes: citrus, mint |
| K3 · Gone at blow-out | Nothing left five minutes after the flame is out | Oils with light bases |
| K4 · Six-cap | If more than six survive, keep the six with the highest doorway scores | The weaker of each role pair |
K4 is what keeps Round 2 affordable. Six oils at 50 g, three loads each plus a retest, is 24 candles; eight would be 32, a third more wax, jars and time for a result you will cut anyway. The worked example below assumes Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lavender, Cucumber Green Tea, Lemongrass and Lime, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang survive. Your six will differ, and the costs move by a few hundred rupees at most.
Round 2: three loads for six survivors
Round 2 buys 50 g of each survivor: 9 g, 12 g and 15 g for the 6%, 8% and 10% candles, and 12 g for a retest at the winning load, which is 48 g. Now you are measuring, not screening.
| Item | What you buy | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹212.40 |
| Lavender Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹270.00 |
| Cucumber Green Tea | 50 g | ₹176.41 |
| Lemongrass and Lime | 50 g | ₹330.00 |
| Sandalwood Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹271.40 |
| Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹330.40 |
| Oils | 300 g | ₹1,590.61 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 3 × 1 kg + 500 g (3.3 kg needed) | ₹2,275.00 |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) | pack of 20 + pack of 10 | ₹2,832.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 20 + 10 wicks | ₹177.00 |
| Round 2 total | 24 candles + 6 spare jars | ₹6,874.61 |
The Round 2 keep rules
Three oils go forward. To be one of them, an oil must pass all of these, in order.
Round 3: bulk for three, at three scales
In the worked example the three survivors are Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lavender and Cucumber Green Tea, split 40% / 35% / 25%. Each is bought as the cheapest combination of in-stock 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg packs covering its grams. The three scales are 100 candles (a first season or a single studio order), 250 (a full launch) and 500 (a production run or a supply contract; batch maths for bigger spa orders is in Bulk Spa Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturers).
| Item | 100 candles | 250 candles | 500 candles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil | 40 candles · 500 g · ₹1,652.00 | 100 candles · 2 × 100 g + 1 kg · ₹3,776.00 | 200 candles · 4 × 100 g + 2 × 1 kg · ₹7,552.00 |
| Lavender Fragrance Oil | 35 candles · 500 g · ₹2,620.00 | 88 candles · 100 g + 1 kg · ₹5,761.00 | 175 candles · 100 g + 2 × 1 kg · ₹10,982.00 |
| Cucumber Green Tea | 25 candles · 3 × 100 g · ₹1,058.46 | 62 candles · 3 × 100 g + 500 g · ₹2,722.26 | 125 candles · 500 g + 1 kg · ₹4,991.40 |
| Oils | ₹5,330.46 | ₹12,259.26 | ₹23,525.40 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg · ₹8,970.00 | 3 × 10 kg + 5 kg · ₹22,295.00 | 7 × 10 kg · ₹44,590.00 |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) | 5 × 20 · ₹9,440.00 | 12 × 20 + 1 × 10 · ₹23,600.00 | 25 × 20 · ₹47,200.00 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 100 · ₹590.00 | 2 × 100 + 50 · ₹1,475.00 | 5 × 100 · ₹2,950.00 |
| Total | ₹24,330.46 | ₹59,629.26 | ₹118,265.40 |
| Per candle | ₹243.30 | ₹238.52 | ₹236.53 |
Where 1 kg pays in a spa line, and where it does not
Spa oils are unusual in this series: several have a real bulk discount. Across the ten, the 1 kg is 28% cheaper per gram than the 50 g for Eucalyptus Spearmint, 29% for Verbena, 21% for Lemongrass and Lime, 20% for Ylang Ylang, 6% for Cucumber Green Tea, 3% for Lavender and 7% for Sandalwood. Eucalyptus Spearmint even gets cheaper between 500 g and 1 kg: two 500 g packs cost ₹3,304.00 against ₹3,068.00 for the kilogram, ₹236.00 more, and the 1 kg is 7% cheaper per gram than the 500 g — ₹2.83 of oil per candle. Lavender saves ₹0.23 a candle at 1 kg over 500 g.
And where it does not: Blue Ocean gets fractionally dearer per gram as the pack grows (₹4.94 at 50 g, ₹4.96 at 1 kg). Palo Santo is flat at ₹6.02 from 50 g. Jasmine Coconut is flat at ₹8.00 from 100 g to 1 kg. Cucumber Green Tea and Lemongrass and Lime stop falling at 500 g. If one of those wins a role, stay in 100 g or 500 g packs and buy more often.
Worked example of the spread inside one spa line, at 8% in CSI 468 (₹87.91 of wax at ₹0.64/g), a 150 g clear jar (₹94.40) and a C1 wick (₹5.90): a Eucalyptus Spearmint candle at the 1 kg price costs ₹225.02 in materials; a Jasmine Coconut candle at the 100 g price costs ₹284.09. The ₹59.06 difference is all oil. Both exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. A frosted look (the Clear Frosted Glass Jar, pack of 10 ₹708.00, ₹70.80 each) is cheaper per jar, but its fill capacity is not stated in the listing, so weigh a water fill before you cost it. Premium spa vessels and per-candle cost are covered in Luxury Spa Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles; ready-priced spa kits in Spa Fragrance Oil Collection for Candle Businesses.
The dated calendar, from order to Christmas shelf
Assuming you order Round 1 on 28 September 2026 and it arrives by 3 October — confirm your dispatch date on WhatsApp and slide every date if needed — both rounds finish before Diwali and bulk production lands in time for Christmas and year-end gifting.
| Date | Do this | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Sep 2026 | Order Round 1 (ten × 15 g) and materials | — |
| 3 Oct | Pour ten candles at 8%; cure seven days | — |
| 10 Oct | Blind cold sniff with three testers | K1 applied |
| 11–15 Oct | Two burns a day, one room, doorway scores at 30 min, 1 h, 2 h | K2, K3 applied |
| 16 Oct | Apply K4; order Round 2 (six × 50 g) | Six survivors |
| 21 Oct | Pour 18 load candles (6%, 8%, 10%); cure seven days | — |
| 28 Oct–2 Nov | Burn three to four candles a day; pour retests on 29 Oct | Lowest working load per oil |
| 5 Nov | Burn retests; apply the keep rules; order Round 3 bulk | Three winners |
| 8 Nov | Diwali — use the week for labels and photography | — |
| 12 Nov | Production pour; seven-day cure | — |
| 19 Nov onward | Spa line on sale for Christmas (25 December 2026) and New Year gifting | Reorder triggers start |
Seven days of cure is our judgement for a fair comparison: these pages do not state a cure time, and at least 48–72 hours, longer for soy, is common practice. Score on day 3 as well as day 7 if you want to know how early you can ship. If you miss this window, the same calendar started in early February lands a spa launch in March, ahead of Indian summer (roughly April to June), when the cool end of the line — Eucalyptus Spearmint, Cucumber Green Tea — usually does its heaviest work.
After launch: reorder and re-test triggers
The funnel does not end at launch. Four triggers keep the line honest.
| Trigger | Fires when | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Reorder | Stock of an oil falls below three weeks of use (worked example: one week delivery, one week pour and cure, one week safety) | Order the pack that covers four to eight weeks |
| Upgrade to 1 kg | An oil uses more than 500 g a month and its 1 kg is cheaper per gram than its 500 g (true for Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lavender, Verbena and Ylang Ylang; not for Cucumber Green Tea, Lemongrass and Lime, Sandalwood, Palo Santo, Blue Ocean or Jasmine Coconut) | Switch the reorder pack to 1 kg |
| Retire | After eight weeks, an oil sells below half the line average | Sell through; do not reorder; promote the Round 2 runner-up for that role |
| Re-test | A season changes (summer from April, monsoon from June) or a customer asks for a scent you killed | Run a one-oil Round 2 at 50 g before adding it |
Keep your Round 2 score sheet: the runner-up in each role is your pre-tested replacement, and promoting it costs one 50 g retest, not a new funnel. If you also run a hotel-style line, the three-heroes launch plan in I'm Launching a Hotel-Inspired Candle Collection — Which Fragrance Oils Should I Buy First? uses the same scoring, and the question of how many floral, woody, fresh and gourmand scents a mixed luxury line needs is answered in I'm Building a 10-Fragrance Luxury Candle Collection — How Many Floral, Woody, Fresh and Gourmand Fragrances Should I Test?.
CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells every oil, wax, jar and wick named here, and does not sell finished candles. This plan asks you to buy 15 g of ten oils before 50 g of six, and bulk of three; it tells you which of our kilogram packs do not save money per gram and advises against the largest order until you have sales.
Every price, pack size and per-gram figure was checked on CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026. All ten test oils were in stock at every listed size on that date. Candle loads and notes are quoted from each product page; where a page states no candle load, we say so.
The ranking, kill and keep rules, the survivors in the worked example, the split, the seven-day cure and the calendar are editorial judgement, not test results; CSI has no throw measurements for these oils.
