CSI Jar & Container Guides · Diameter & Wick
The wick follows the inside diameter; capacity follows the height. Build a range on one diameter band and one wick can often serve every size. Here is what that saves, what it does not, and which CSI jars already share a stated diameter.
27 → 15
launch test candles for a three-size range on one diameter band instead of three (worked example) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should I choose jars with similar diameters to cut wick sizes? Usually yes, for a single-wick range. At the same inside diameter the wick melts the same pool; height mostly changes how much wax there is and how long it burns. One diameter band across two or three capacities can often share one wick, after testing.

What does it actually save? Testing and complexity, not wick money. In our worked example, one band instead of three diameters cuts launch testing from 27 candles to 15 (₹2,651.25 of materials) and each new fragrance's checks from 6 candles to 3. Eco and Cotton Braided wicks cost the same per wick at every pack size, so the wick bill barely moves.

Will the same wick always work across heights? Not always. Treat it as a strong hypothesis and prove it with a burn-down in the tallest jar, where heat builds deepest. Fragrances can still need different wicks in the same jar.

Which CSI jars share a stated diameter? 19 in-stock listings state 7 cm (150 g, 200 ml and 300 g sizes), 8 state 6 cm (120 g and 130 g) and one states 10 cm (500 g and 700 g). Stated figures are outside or unlabelled, so measure the insides before you group them.
The short answer
The principle: the wick follows the inside diameter; capacity follows height. Hold the diameter, vary the height, and you vary capacity without changing the pool the wick must melt.
The business case: fewer brackets to launch, fewer checks per new fragrance, one wick to stock and reorder, fewer production mix-ups. Worked example: ₹2,651.25 less launch testing and ₹662.81 less per new fragrance.
The limits: very tall jars in the band, jars that need two wicks anyway, and oils that pull a different wick. Standardise the diameter; keep proving the wick.
The CSI shortlist: 7 cm band: Clear 150 g (h 8), Matte 200 ml (h 8), Green Iridescent 300 g (h 10). 6 cm band: Shiny 120 g (h 6.5), Shot Glass 130 g (h 8).
CSI's in-stock jars by stated diameter: three bands, many capacities Drawn to scale. Diameters are as listed (outer, "width" or unspecified), never inside. Capacities as listed, g or ml. 0 100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 5 cm 6 cm 7 cm 8 cm 9 cm 10 cm 11 cm Diameter as the listing states it Capacity as listed (g or ml) 6 cm band · 8 listings 7 cm band · 19 listings 10 cm · 1 listing 150 g jars (outer), h 8 Matte 200 ml (width), h 8 Green Iridescent 300 g, h 10 Apothecary 500 g Apothecary 700 g Heart velvet 50 g, h 4.3 capacity ×2 on one stated diameter Shot Glass 130 g, h 8 Shiny jars 120 g, h 6.5 A shared stated diameter is a shortlist, not a wick group: measure the inside of each before you group them. Tins, Salsa jars, votives and other listings with no stated diameter are left off.
Every in-stock CSI jar that states a diameter, plotted by what its listing says. Within the 7 cm column, stated capacity doubles from 150 g to 300 g: a whole range of sizes on one headline diameter. The catch is in the word "stated": outer, width or unlabelled, from different moulds. Measure the insides, then decide which jars really form one band.
Straight answer
I want to reduce the number of wick sizes in my business. Should I choose candle jars with similar diameters even if their capacities differ?
For a mostly single-wick range, yes: it is one of the simplest ways to run fewer wick sizes. A wick's main job is to melt a pool out to the glass, and the pool's size is set by the inside diameter. Hold that diameter and change the height, and you change capacity and burn time while the pool stays the same, so one wick can often serve a short, a medium and a tall jar. What you save is mostly testing and complexity: one bracket at launch instead of one per diameter, fewer check candles for every new fragrance, one wick to stock, and fewer chances to put the wrong wick in the wrong jar on a busy production day. What you do not save much of is wick money, because CSI's Eco and Cotton Braided wicks cost the same per wick at every pack size. Two conditions: measure the insides, because jars listed with the same diameter can differ inside; and prove the shared wick with a burn-down in the tallest jar of the band, because depth changes how heat builds near the bottom. Fragrances can still pull a different wick in the same jar, so keep a short check for every new oil.
One line: standardise the diameter, vary the height for capacity, prove one wick in the tallest jar, and your range needs fewer brackets, fewer checks and one wick on the shelf.
Try a 7 cm band before you commit a range to it. One Green Iridescent 300 g (₹150.00), a pack of 10 Clear 150 g jars (₹944.00) and a pack of 5 White Matte jars (₹354.00) put three stated capacities on one stated diameter on your bench, all in stock on 26 September 2026. Measure them first.
Start with the 300 g jar — ₹150.00

Why height changes capacity but not (usually) the wick

The wick sees a circle. The customer sees a jar. Only one of them cares about height.

Think about what the flame is doing. It melts a disc of wax, and a well-chosen wick melts that disc out to the glass in the first few hours of burning (3 to 4 hours is a common rule of thumb for the first burn). The disc's area depends on the inside diameter: π × r². Height is not in that formula. A jar twice as tall at the same inside diameter has the same disc to melt; it simply has twice as many centimetres of wax under it, so it burns for longer.

That is why a range built on one inside diameter can often share a wick across capacities. A 7 cm inside diameter gives a pool of about 38.5 cm², whether the jar holds 150 g or 300 g. Two jars of the same capacity but different diameters are the opposite case: same wax, different pool, usually different wicks, as the tall-narrow vs short-wide guide shows.

Why "usually" and not "always"

Height is not completely invisible to the wick. In a deeper jar, the flame spends more hours sitting further below the rim, the glass above the pool warms, and near the bottom the heat has more glass and less wax around it. A wick that is fine in an 8 cm jar can run a deeper pool or a hotter final third in a 10 cm jar. The test that settles it is a burn-down in the tallest jar of the band, not a first burn in the shortest.

Mistake: proving the wick in the 150 g jar and rolling it straight into the 300 g jar. Why it fails: the first burns will match; the last third of the taller jar is where they may not. Fix: bracket in the band, then burn the winner down in the tallest jar before you call the band proven.

The SKU maths: three diameters vs one band

Every extra diameter is another bracket at launch and another check for every fragrance you ever add.

Worked example: a maker launching three sizes, small (about 120 g), medium (150 to 200 g) and large (300 g or more). Range A picks the three sizes on looks, and they land on three different diameters. Range B picks three sizes that share one diameter band. The testing rules are our judgement: a nine-candle, three-rung bracket per diameter at launch; for range B, three confirmation candles in each other height; and for every new fragrance, two check candles per diameter (range A) or two in the band plus one burn-down in the tallest jar (range B). Each test candle is costed as a 150 g candle in a Clear 150 g jar with CSI 464, Jasmine and a C2 wick: ₹220.94, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Range A vs range B · worked example, our testing rules
Three sizes on three diameters, or three sizes on one band
Measure A: three diameters B: one band Difference
Wick brackets to launch 3 1 2 fewer
Launch test candles 27 (3 × 9) 15 (9 + 3 + 3) 12 fewer
Launch test materials ₹5,965.30 ₹3,314.06 ₹2,651.25 less
Check candles per new fragrance 6 3 3 fewer
Check materials per new fragrance ₹1,325.62 ₹662.81 ₹662.81 less
Ten new fragrances a year 60 candles 30 candles ₹6,628.12 less
Wick sizes on the shelf 3 (often more if one size needs two wicks) 1 2 fewer SKUs to reorder
Wick-to-jar pairings to get right on pour day 3 1 no pairing to get wrong

The money in the table is modest: ₹2,651.25 at launch and ₹662.81 per fragrance. The larger saving is time. Every bracket is a cure plus several burn sessions, weeks of bench time you cannot spend making stock; a range that launches on one bracket reaches the market sooner and adds fragrances faster. And every extra wick-to-jar pairing is a chance for a production error that only shows up in a customer's candle.

Fragrance still matters
One band does not mean one wick for every oil. Heavier or higher-load oils can need a step up in the same jar. Standardising the diameter makes each fragrance check smaller; it does not remove it. See whether different oils need different wicks in the same jar.

What it does not save: the wick bill

We would like to tell you that one wick size is cheaper per wick. On our own wicks, it mostly is not.

Eco C1 is ₹5.90 a wick and C2 ₹9.44 a wick at every pack size from 10 to 1,000; Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made is ₹12.00 a wick at every size from 10 to 1,000. Buying all your wicks as one size in larger packs does not lower the price per wick on any of them. It can even raise the bill, if the shared wick is a bigger rung than some jars would have needed:

300 candles, three sizes · CSI live pricing, 26 September 2026
Consolidating wick sizes does not cut the per-wick price on Eco or Cotton Braided wicks
Wicking plan Buy Price
Three wicks, one per jar size C1 / 100 + C2 / 100 + Cotton Braided / 100 ₹2,734.00
One wick, if the band proves on C2 3 × Thick (C2) / 100 ₹2,832.00 (₹98.00 more)
One wick, if the band needs Cotton Braided 3 × Pack of 100 ₹3,600.00

The exception on our store is the Performance Wooden Wicks: ₹59.00 a wick in a pack of 10 and ₹41.30 in a pack of 100, 30% less per wick. A wooden-wick range that consolidates onto that listing does get a volume price. The listing does not offer widths as variants, so ask on WhatsApp which width you are buying before you design a band around it.

What one wick size does save is held stock. Three wick sizes usually means three open packs: three 100-packs of C1, C2 and Cotton Braided are ₹2,734.00 sitting on a shelf, against ₹944.00 for one 100-pack of C2. The per-wick price is the same; the cash tied up and the risk of a size running out mid-batch are not.

Argued against our own interest: if someone tells you consolidating wicks will cut your wick bill, check the pack prices first. On our Eco and Cotton Braided wicks it will not. Make the case on testing, time and fewer errors, which are real, not on a wick discount that does not exist.

Building a band from CSI's range

Our catalogue already clusters on two headline diameters. The work is proving the insides agree.

Plotting every in-stock CSI jar that states a diameter (the diagram above) shows three columns. The 7 cm column is the deepest: 19 in-stock listings, from the 150 g apothecary jars through the 200 ml Matte family to the 300 g Green Iridescent jar. The 6 cm column has 8: seven Shiny 120 g colours (Black, Amber and Pink in packs of 1 or 5, the others singly) and the Shot Glass 130 g jar. The Apothecary Dome Lid jar stands alone at 10 cm, with 500 g (₹212.40) and 700 g (₹250.00) sizes described by one set of dimensions.

A 7 cm band from CSI's in-stock range · wording from the pages, verified 26 September 2026
Three stated capacities on one stated diameter, and what each listing leaves open
Jar Stated capacity Stated size Diameter wording Per jar Measure before grouping
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) 150 g Height 8 cm (also given with lid), rim 7, base 6.5 "outer" ₹94.40 Inside at pool height and base; thick walls
White Matte Glass Jar + sisters 200 ml Height 8, width 7 "width" ₹70.80 Inside; whether 200 ml is brim or fill
Green Iridescent Jar with Bamboo Lid - 300g 300 g Height 10, diameter 7 unlabelled ₹150.00 Inside; real fill weight at your line

On paper the three are one band. In practice, a thick-walled 7 cm-outside jar and a thin-walled one can differ by several millimetres inside, and 5 mm on a 7 cm jar is about 15% of the pool (the 5 mm guide). The capacities do not scale cleanly with height either: 150 g and 200 ml at the same 8 cm height, 300 g at 10 cm. Those are signs of different glass, bases and capacity definitions, and the reason the first step is always a calliper and a scale. How close insides must be to share a wick is a technical question with its own guide, the one-wick tolerance guide; how to measure the inside is the external-versus-internal guide.

Mistake: building a three-size range because three listings say "7 cm". Why it fails: "outer", "width" and an unlabelled "diameter" are three different measurements from three different moulds. Fix: buy a few of each, measure the inside at pool height, and group only the jars whose insides agree.

Where the one-band idea breaks

A good rule for a single-wick range. Four situations where it bends.

Very tall jars in the band. Adding capacity by height alone eventually gives a jar much taller than it is wide. Deep jars ask more of the last third: the flame sits low in a glass tube for hours. Our judgement: keep the band's tallest jar within a height you have proven with a burn-down, and treat anything taller as a new test, not a new SKU.

Wide luxury jars. At the wide end, one wick often stops being enough and the question becomes one, two or three wicks (the 1, 2 or 3 wicks guide). A wide band can still standardise, on a two-wick layout, but it is a different band.

Tapered or shouldered jars. A jar that narrows toward the base or has a shoulder has more than one relevant diameter. It can join a band only if its pool-height inside matches and its narrower bottom passes a burn-down.

Design variety. One diameter across a range can look repetitive on a shelf. Many brands vary finish, colour and lid instead of shape, which is where a family like the Matte, glossy and frosted jars helps: one inside, many looks, if the finishes burn the same in your tests.

When to keep a second band
If your range needs a small gift size, a second band (for example, CSI's 6 cm jars) is usually worth its extra bracket. Two bands and two wicks is still far simpler than five sizes on five diameters.

Proving a band: the test plan

One bracket, then confirmations. The tallest jar gets the last word.
1
Shortlist by stated diameterPick two or three jars whose listings share a diameter and whose heights give the capacities you want. Buy a few of each.
2
Measure the insides and weigh the fillsInside diameter at pool height, middle and base; water to your fill line; a test pour. Drop any jar whose inside clearly differs from the others.
3
Bracket once, in the middle jarNine candles, three rungs (for example C1, C2 and Cotton Braided), your production wax, load and heaviest oil. Pick the rung that reaches the glass in about 3 to 4 hours with a pool about 0.5 to 1 cm deep.
4
Confirm in the short jarThree candles on the chosen rung: two burn sessions each, compared with the middle jar's log.
5
Burn down in the tall jarThree candles on the chosen rung; burn one all the way to about 1 cm of wax left, in sessions, never unattended. If the final third runs hot or the pool deepens past about 1 cm, the tall jar leaves the band or gets its own wick.
6
Write the band specJars, inside diameters, fill weights, wick, wax, load. Every new jar or fragrance is checked against it, not re-bracketed from scratch.

That is the fifteen-candle plan behind range B. Running a whole collection of fragrances through it is the standardisation programme in the 10 to 20 fragrance consistency guide; building the range around jars you can keep buying is the jar-continuity guide.

Jars and wicks for a 7 cm band

Three jars that put 150 g, 200 ml and 300 g on one stated 7 cm diameter, one 6 cm option for a gift size, and the wick you are likely to standardise on. Chosen on stated wording, price and stock on 26 September 2026; CSI publishes no burn data, so the band is yours to prove.

1
7 cm band · the small size
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
States "150g fill capacity", "outer diameter 7cm" at the rim, a base of about 6.5 cm and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" (its wording). In a 7 cm band it is the short, lidded size. Two cautions for grouping: its listing calls it thick-walled in its structured data, so its inside may be narrower than the Matte jar's despite the same headline 7 cm; and its listed base (6.5 cm) is narrower than its rim, so the pool may shrink as it burns. Coloured versions (Black, Red, Pink, Orange) are ₹107.00 a jar; Amber is out of stock. Limitation: measure the inside before assuming it groups with the rest.

7 cm band · the middle size, many finishes
White Matte Glass Jar
States "a fill weight of 200 ml" and "Height 8 cm width 7 cm"; "withstand high heat" with no figure. Its value to a one-band range is choice: the same size and price in 13 in-stock matte, glossy and frosted listings on 26 September 2026, so one wick decision can cover many looks, subject to checking that the finishes do not change the burn (frosted coatings can react to heat differently; test). Pink Matte, Frosted Brown and Orange Frosted are out of stock. Limitation: the same 8 cm height as the 150 g jar, so it adds a look, not a capacity step, unless its inside is wider.

7 cm band · the tall, large size
Green Iridescent Jar with Bamboo Lid - 300g
States "Capacity - 300g", "Diameter - 7cm" and "Height - 10cm", and little else: no heat claim, and "diameter" is not labelled inside or outside. It is the obvious large size for a 7 cm band: double the stated capacity of the 150 g jar on the same stated diameter. That doubling from only 2 cm more height does not add up on paper, which is the point: the listings are not comparable until you measure and weigh them. It is also the jar where the shared wick must prove itself in the final third, because it is the deepest. Limitation: sold singly; the White Iridescent 300g is out of stock.

6 cm band · two capacities
Shot Glass Jar (Pack of 6) 130gram
States "Height - 8cm", "Diameter - 6cm" and "Fill Capacity - 130gram"; the Shiny glass jars state "6 cm diameter, 6.5 cm height" and "Capacity: 120 gm". So a 6 cm band has a short and a taller jar whose stated capacities differ by only 10 g, another reason to weigh rather than trust. The listing title says a pack of 6, but its handle and description say five: that is ₹48.00 or ₹57.60 a jar, so confirm the count on WhatsApp. The page says its "sturdy design ensures safe, stylish burning", which is the page's claim, not a heat rating. Limitation: a second band means a second wick decision.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
A one-band range usually ends up on one or two wick sizes, bought in 500s or 1,000s. The honest part: Eco wicks cost ₹5.90 (C1) and ₹9.44 (C2) a wick at every pack size from 10 to 1,000, and Cotton Braided is ₹12.00 at every size, so consolidating wick sizes saves nothing per wick on these. The saving is elsewhere: fewer tests, fewer open packs, fewer mix-ups. The page states no jar-size range; the band bracket decides which rung it is. Limitation: two sizes on this listing; if the band needs a bigger rung, it is on another page.
Pack Price Per wick What it covers
Thin (C1) / 500 ₹2,950.00 ₹5.90 500 candles on the band wick
Thick (C2) / 500 ₹4,720.00 ₹9.44 500 candles on the band wick
Thick (C2) / 1000 ₹9,440.00 ₹9.44 a season on one wick
Thick (C2) / 10 ₹94.40 ₹9.44 the bracket, before any of the above
Same per-wick price at 10 as at 1,000: buy the bracket first. Buy C1/C2 — from ₹59.00
When the right purchase is nothing: if your current range already sits on two or three diameters that sell well, do not replace jars customers like just to save a bracket. Apply the band rule to the next sizes you add.
Diwali is 8 November 2026, 43 days from 26 September 2026. Too soon to prove a new band and launch it, but time enough to add a size to a band you have already proven, with a confirmation burn-down. The CSI principle
Standardise the diameter, vary the height, prove the wick in the tallest jar.
One band means one bracket, smaller fragrance checks and one wick on the shelf. It does not mean a cheaper wick, and it never means skipping the burn-down.
"Fewer wick sizes is a design decision you make at the jar shelf, not the wick shelf."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars and wicks named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you that consolidating onto one of our Eco or Cotton Braided wicks will not lower the per-wick price, that our "7 cm" listings use three different kinds of measurement, and that one of them may be a pack of 5 or 6.

Every price and per-jar or per-wick figure was verified on CSI's live store on 26 September 2026; every pack in a pick table is in stock on that date, and out-of-stock variants are named. Listing counts come from reading every CSI container listing; dimension and capacity wording is quoted from the pages.

Range A and range B, the testing rules and the per-candle cost are a worked example; the band approach, its limits and the fifteen-candle plan are editorial judgement; full pool in 3 to 4 hours, 0.5 to 1 cm pool depth and stopping with about 1 cm left are common rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same wick for different sized candle jars?
Often, if the jars share an inside diameter and differ mainly in height. The pool the wick must melt is the same; height changes capacity and burn time. Prove it with a burn-down in the tallest jar, and measure the insides first.
Does a taller candle jar need a bigger wick?
Not usually for the pool, which depends on diameter. But a deeper jar can run hotter or deeper in its last third, so a wick proven in a short jar needs a burn-down in the tall one before you rely on it.
How can a candle business reduce the number of wick sizes?
Choose jars on one inside-diameter band and vary height for capacity. In our worked example, three sizes on one band need 15 launch test candles instead of 27, and 3 check candles per new fragrance instead of 6.
Is it cheaper to buy one wick size in bulk?
Not on CSI's Eco (C1 ₹5.90, C2 ₹9.44) or Cotton Braided (₹12.00) wicks: the price per wick is the same at every pack size. The Performance Wooden Wicks are the exception, 30% less per wick at 100 than at 10.
Which CSI candle jars have the same diameter?
19 in-stock listings state 7 cm (the 150 g jars, the 200 ml Matte family and the 300 g Green Iridescent jar) and 8 state 6 cm (Shiny 120 g jars and the Shot Glass 130 g jar). These are outer, width or unlabelled figures; measure the insides before grouping.
Do different fragrances need different wicks even in the same jar?
Sometimes. Heavier oils or higher loads can need a step up. A one-diameter range makes each fragrance check smaller (two or three candles), but it does not remove it.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Bamboo Wick Holder, Black Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 gram) (Deliveries Starting 5th Dec), Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for Jar / Container Candles, Tin Containers for Candle Making - 85 & 135g, White Matte Votive Jar 70 gram. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the container advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Jinal Monil, Biny Abraham, Subhankar Roy, Sakshi Jain. The reviews from Ashwini, Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

Non-price figures: listing counts by stated diameter (19 at 7 cm, 8 at 6 cm, 1 at 10 cm, in stock) come from reading every CSI container listing on 26 September 2026; stated diameters are outer, width or unlabelled. The test candle is a 150 g candle at 8% (12 g oil + 138 g wax); range A and B and their testing rules are a worked example and editorial judgement. Full pool in 3 to 4 hours, 0.5 to 1 cm pool depth and stopping with about 1 cm left are rules of thumb. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST.
