Buyer question · 1,000 scented tealights
Tealights are small, but a thousand of them is a production run. The oil quantity comes straight from two numbers — the fill weight of your cup and your load — and the order comes from rounding that quantity to CSI's pack sizes without overpaying. One caveat first: CSI does not list tealight cups or tealight wicks, so those are yours to source or to ask us about.
960 g
of fragrance oil for 1,000 tealights at a 12 g fill and 8% load, before a 3–5% allowance · 1,200 g at a 15 g fill · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil for 1,000 tealights? At 8%: 960 g for 12 g tealights and 1,200 g for 15 g tealights, before a 3–5% allowance. Both fill weights are illustrative — weigh your own cup. See the grams.

What should I actually order? For one scent at 12 g: one 1 kg covers 960 g plus a 4% allowance (Citrus Lemon ₹2,832.00). At 15 g: most oils need 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 50 g. See the order.

Does CSI sell tealight cups and wicks? No tealight cups or tealight wicks are listed on the pull date. Ask on WhatsApp whether CSI can supply them. Costs on this page exclude both.

Which wax for tealights? A container soy such as CSI 464 (up to 10% load, ₹507.40 a kilo). 1,000 × 12 g at 8% needs 11,040 g of wax: 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹5,841.40.
The short answer
Oil for 1,000: 12 g fill: 720 g (6%) · 960 g (8%) · 1,200 g (10%). 15 g fill: 900 g · 1,200 g · 1,500 g. Add 3–5% for pour loss and test burns.
Order: One scent, 12 g at 8%: 1 × 1 kg. Four scents × 250: about 250 g each — 2 × 100 g + 50 g for most oils, but one 500 g for Citronella, where the 500 g is cheaper than three 100 g.
Per tealight: 0.96 g of oil at 8% in a 12 g tealight: ₹2.72 with Citrus Lemon at 1 kg, ₹5.01 with Lavender. Cups and wicks not included.

Six scenarios for the same 1,000 tealights. Every bar is fill weight × load × 1,000. The 12 g and 15 g fills are illustrative — tealight cups vary, and CSI does not list one, so weigh a filled cup before you order. The 8% bars (960 g and 1,200 g) are the working figures used through this page.
Straight answer
I'm producing 1,000 scented tealights. How much fragrance oil should I order?
Multiply three numbers: fill weight × load × 1,000. For an illustrative 12 g tealight at 8% that is 0.96 g each, 960 g in all; for a 15 g tealight it is 1.2 g each, 1,200 g. Add a 3–5% allowance for pour loss and test burns. For one scent at 12 g, that makes the order simple: one 1 kg bottle, which covers 960 g with 40 g spare — with Citrus Lemon, the cheapest 1 kg in the catalogue, that is ₹2,832.00, or ₹2.83 of oil per tealight. At 15 g most oils need 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 50 g. If you split into four scents of 250, each needs about 250 g; watch the pack prices, because for some oils — Citronella most of all — the 500 g costs less than three 100 g bottles. The load ceiling depends on the wax: CSI 464 is rated up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%. CSI does not list tealight cups or tealight wicks, so weigh your own cup's fill before ordering and ask us on WhatsApp whether we can supply them.
One line: 12 g × 8% × 1,000 = 960 g — one 1 kg bottle, for one scent.
For one scent across 1,000 tealights of 12 g, one kilo does it. Citrus Lemon 1 kg ₹2,832.00 · Citronella 1 kg ₹2,891.00 · British Rose 1 kg ₹3,068.00 · Eucalyptus Spearmint 1 kg ₹3,068.00 — the four cheapest in-stock kilos in the catalogue, all with a real per-gram saving over their 100 g.

The grams: fill × load × 1,000

A tealight holds about a gram of fragrance. A thousand of them hold about a kilo. The rest is detail — but the detail decides your order.

Load is oil as a percentage of the finished weight. A 12 g tealight at 8% is 0.96 g of oil and 11.04 g of wax. Tealight cups vary in size, and CSI does not list a tealight cup, so we use two illustrative fills — 12 g and 15 g — and show 6%, 8% and 10% for each. Treat 8% as the working figure. With CSI 464, 10% is the wax maker's stated maximum; with Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the maximum is 13%. Those are formulation limits, not regulatory ones.

1,000 tealights · oil = fill × load · allowance 3% as a working assumption
How much oil 1,000 tealights need
Fill Load Oil per tealight Oil for 1,000 With 3% allowance Wax for 1,000
12 g fill (illustrative) 6% 0.72 g 720 g 742 g 11,280 g
12 g fill (illustrative) 8% 0.96 g 960 g 989 g 11,040 g
12 g fill (illustrative) 10% 1.20 g 1,200 g 1,236 g 10,800 g
15 g fill (illustrative) 6% 0.90 g 900 g 927 g 14,100 g
15 g fill (illustrative) 8% 1.20 g 1,200 g 1,236 g 13,800 g
15 g fill (illustrative) 10% 1.50 g 1,500 g 1,545 g 13,500 g

Two things follow. First, fill weight matters as much as load: moving from a 12 g to a 15 g cup adds 240 g of oil at 8%, the same as raising the 12 g tealight from 8% to 10%. Weigh a filled cup before you commit. Second, small candles do not need a higher load to be "worth it". A tealight has a small pool and a short burn, and it is commonly bought in quantity for ambience rather than to fill a room. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so test at 8% before you decide to go higher. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Tealight Candles? covers the tealight load question in depth.

Weigh the cup, not the catalogue
Fill one empty tealight cup with melted wax to your pour line, let it set and weigh it without the cup. That is your fill weight. A cup that holds 13.5 g instead of 12 g changes your 1,000-piece oil need by 120 g at 8% — the difference between one kilo and one kilo plus a 100 g.

Turning grams into an order

CSI sells oils in 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg, and not every oil in every size. The cheapest way to cover a quantity is not always the obvious one, because for most oils the per-gram price barely changes above 100 g, while for a few the kilo is much cheaper. The table below takes each scenario, adds a 3% allowance, and finds the cheapest combination of in-stock packs for five value oils. Where two combinations cost within half a percent of each other, it picks the one with fewer bottles.

One scent across 1,000 tealights at 8% · cheapest in-stock packs covering need + 3% · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
What to order for one scent
Oil 12 g tealights (988.8 g) 15 g tealights (1,236 g) Oil per 12 g tealight Oil per 15 g tealight
Citrus Lemon 1 × 1 kg · ₹2,832.00 1 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹3,602.00 ₹2.83 ₹3.60
Citronella 1 × 1 kg · ₹2,891.00 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g · ₹4,366.00 ₹2.89 ₹4.37
British Rose 1 × 1 kg · ₹3,068.00 1 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹3,964.80 ₹3.07 ₹3.96
Eucalyptus Spearmint 1 × 1 kg · ₹3,068.00 1 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹3,988.40 ₹3.07 ₹3.99
Lavender 1 × 1 kg · ₹5,221.00 1 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹6,571.00 ₹5.22 ₹6.57

For the 12 g run, every oil lands on a single 1 kg: 1,000 g covers 960 g with a 4.2% allowance. For the 15 g run the order depends on the oil. Most need the kilo plus 250 g in smaller packs. Citronella is the exception: its 500 g is priced so low that 1 kg + 500 g costs less than 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 50 g. The per-tealight oil cost ranges from under ₹3 for the value oils to over ₹5 for Lavender at 12 g.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. It would be easy to tell a 1,000-tealight maker to buy two kilos "to be safe". For a 12 g run at 8%, the second kilo is almost entirely spare — 1,040 g of oil you did not need, which at Lavender's price is ₹5,221.00 sitting on a shelf. Weigh your cup, run the maths, and buy one kilo plus whatever small pack closes the gap. If you run short on the day, a 100 g top-up is a smaller mistake than a surplus kilo.

The oil where the kilo really pays

For most oils, bigger bottles only buy convenience. For Citronella they buy a 62% lower price.

Across CSI's catalogue, 52 of the 91 oils that list both a 100 g and a 1 kg are within 1% of the same price per gram. Only 24 show a saving of 5% or more at the kilo. Citronella is the extreme case: ₹7.67 a gram at 100 g, ₹2.95 at 500 g and ₹2.89 at 1 kg. Ten 100 g bottles would cost ₹7,670.00; the 1 kg costs ₹2,891.00 — ₹4,779.00 less for the same oil. Citronella tealights are a common outdoor and monsoon product, which makes this more than a curiosity for a tealight maker.

Four scents instead of one

Many tealight sellers offer a mixed box. Splitting 1,000 tealights into four scents of 250 changes the order: each scent needs 240 g of oil at 12 g and 8%, and 250 g is an awkward quantity — too much for two 100 g bottles, well short of a 500 g. With a 3% allowance the cheapest in-stock packs are:

Four scents × 250 tealights · 12 g at 8% · need + 3% = 247.2 g each · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
The mixed-box order
Oil Needed Buy Bought Cost Oil per tealight
Citrus Lemon 240 g 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g 250 g ₹770.00 ₹3.08
Citronella 240 g 1 × 500 g 500 g ₹1,475.00 ₹5.90
British Rose 240 g 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g 250 g ₹896.80 ₹3.59
Lavender 240 g 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g 250 g ₹1,350.00 ₹5.40
Four scents 960 g ₹4,491.80 ₹4.49

The mixed box costs ₹4,491.80 in oil against ₹2,832.00 for 1,000 tealights in Citrus Lemon alone. Some of that is the scents themselves (Lavender costs more than Citrus Lemon), and some is the pack step. For a flat-priced oil like Lavender, 250 g in small packs costs close to the kilo rate (₹5.40 against ₹5.22 a gram). For value oils with a real kilo break it does not: Citrus Lemon works out at ₹3.08 a gram in small packs against ₹2.83 at 1 kg, British Rose ₹3.59 against ₹3.07. And for Citronella the pack step forces a 500 g that leaves 250 g spare. That spare is not wasted — it is the start of your next run — but it is cash tied up. For a deeper look at splitting a large order across scents, see I'm Making 500 Candles for Corporate Gifting — Should I Offer One Fragrance or Multiple Fragrances?.

The CSI principle
Round up to packs once, at the end.
Work out the grams each scent needs, add your allowance, then round each scent to the cheapest in-stock pack combination. Rounding every step along the way is how a 960 g need becomes a 2 kg order.

Wax — and the parts we don't list

A tealight in a cup is a small container candle, so a container soy is the natural wax. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is rated up to 10% and costs ₹507.40 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% at ₹599.00 a kilo. For 1,000 × 12 g at 8% you need 11,040 g of wax; with a 3% allowance the cheapest CSI 464 packs are 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g at ₹5,841.40, against ₹6,897.00 for the same weight of Chunks. At 15 g the CSI 464 need rises to 1 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹7,363.60.

Now the gaps. CSI does not list tealight cups, and does not list tealight wicks — the pre-tabbed short wicks made for tealight cups. The Eco and Cotton Braided wicks on our store are sold for container candles, and wick sizing is not published in our data, so whether any of them suits your cup is a burn-test question, not something we will assert. Ask on WhatsApp whether CSI can supply cups and wicks for your run. If you would rather make votives, CSI does list votive glass jars in black (₹35.40 each; the orange version is out of stock) — Best Fragrance Oils for Votive Candles covers votives.

The common mistake: ordering oil before the cups arrive. Tealight cups from different sources hold different weights. A maker orders oil for 12 g, receives 15 g cups, and runs 240 g short at 8%. Get a sample cup, weigh its fill, then order the oil.
1
Get one cup and one wickBefore ordering anything in bulk, get the exact cup and wick you will use. Weigh one filled cup.
2
Test one oil at 8% in 10 tealightsTen 12 g tealights at 8% need 9.6 g of oil — one 15 g tester. Burn them fully: check the flame, the pool and whether the cup gets too hot.
3
Calculate the gramsFill × load × 1,000, plus 3–5%. Do it per scent if you are mixing.
4
Round to packsUse the order tables above as a guide; check live stock on each size before you pay.
5
Order wax to matchWax = (fill − oil) × 1,000, plus the same allowance. CSI 464 is flat per kilo, so buy the pack sizes that are easiest to handle.
6
Pour in batches, same method every timeA thousand tealights are poured in rounds. Weigh oil and wax for every round, not once for the whole run.

Those totals cover oil and wax only. Cups, wicks, labour, packaging, freight and GST are all extra, and the cups and wicks in particular can be a large share of a tealight's cost — which is exactly why we will not guess them. Add a weighing scale (₹354.00) if you do not have one; at under a gram of oil per tealight, weighing each round matters.

Tealights move fastest around Diwali, 8 November 2026. A 1,000-piece run needs its oil and wax on the bench by mid-October. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We do not list tealight cups or tealight wicks, and this page says so rather than pricing products we do not sell. The oil and wax figures are ours; the cups and wicks are for you to source or ask us about.

Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; the votive jar price from the 25 September 2026 pull; the scale price is Blog 760's figure verified on 10 September 2026. Pack combinations were calculated from in-stock sizes only, choosing the cheapest option and, within 0.5%, the one with fewer bottles.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for 1000 tealights?
At 8%: 960 g for 12 g tealights and 1,200 g for 15 g tealights, plus a 3–5% allowance. At 6% it is 720 g and 900 g; at 10%, 1,200 g and 1,500 g. Weigh your cup's fill first.
How much fragrance oil goes in one tealight?
About a gram. A 12 g tealight at 8% holds 0.96 g of oil; a 15 g tealight holds 1.2 g.
What is the best fragrance load for tealights?
Use 8% as a working starting point and test. Stay within the wax's stated maximum: 10% for CSI 464, 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Small candles do not automatically need a higher load.
Is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg for tealights?
For most oils the 1 kg costs about the same per gram as the 100 g. For some it is much cheaper — Citronella is 62.3% cheaper per gram at 1 kg, Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.3% and British Rose 10.3%. For a 1,000-tealight run of one scent at 12 g, one kilo is also simply the right size.
Where can I buy tealight cups and wicks in India?
CSI does not list tealight cups or tealight wicks on the pull date. Ask CSI on WhatsApp whether they can be supplied for your run; otherwise source them separately and weigh a filled cup before ordering oil.
How much wax do I need for 1000 tealights?
For 12 g tealights at 8%, 11,040 g of wax; with a 3% allowance, 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 464 (₹5,841.40). For 15 g tealights, 13,800 g — 1 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (₹7,363.60).

Non-price figures and assumptions: The 12 g and 15 g tealight fills are illustrative. Oil = fill × load × quantity; wax = fill × quantity − oil. The 8% load and 3% allowance are working assumptions. No tealight cups, tealight wicks or three-wick jars were found in CSI's catalogue on the pull date; costings exclude cups, wicks, labour, packaging, freight and GST. Fragrance-load ceilings of up to 10% (CSI 464) and 13% (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. No throw measurements are published for any oil.
