CSI Wick Buying · 9 cm Jars
One wick tunnels, two run hot, and CSI has no tabbed wick in between. Fill the gap from the cheapest end: re-space what you own, step the pair down, try a mixed pair, then braid, then ask.
₹118.00
the only new wick pack most readers need: an Eco C1 20 for the step-down pair and the mixed pair · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
My 9 cm candle tunnels with one wick and runs too hot with two. What do I test next? Fill the gap in order of cost. First re-space the pair you already own (no purchase). Then step the pair down to 2 × C1 if the hot pair was 2 × C2 (a C1 20-pack, ₹118.00). Then a mixed C1 + C2 pair, labelled experimental. Then unsized Eco Braided cut to length (₹472.00 for 5 m).

What does that cost? Options A, B and C together are nine 300 g candles: ₹2,491.81 in materials. From an empty shelf the order is ₹3,289.00; if the C2 from your hot pair are still on hand, ₹3,194.60.

Does CSI sell a wick between Cotton Braided and two wicks? No. CSI's sized, tabbed wicks are C1, C2 and Cotton Braided, with nothing between them. If none of the options closes the gap, a finer step means asking us on WhatsApp or trying another supplier, and a new wick from anyone is a full retest.

Should I buy anything big yet? No. Nothing here is a production order. A gap is only closed when all three candles of one configuration pass a full-life burn.
The short answer
A, free: the same pair moved from 4.5 to 5.5 cm apart, three candles, wicks you own.
B, ₹118.00: 2 × C1 at the original spacing, three candles, from the C1 20-pack.
C, no extra pack: one C1 + one C2, experimental, three candles; D, ₹472.00: Eco Braided cut at a labelled 10 cm, three candles, tabs to confirm.
The honest limit: 9 cm is your jar (CSI lists none at that width), and CSI has no wick between its steps. The end of this list is a WhatsApp message, not a bigger order.
Tunnels on one, too hot on two: the gap-fillers, cheapest first Top views of a 9.0 cm INSIDE jar drawn to scale (0.62 px per mm). Bars: materials for three 300 g candles at 8% British Rose in CSI 468 (black), plus new wick cash if your shelf is empty (white). CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026. Worked example. A. Re-space the same pair 4.5 → 5.5 cm apart no new wicks (owned) ₹841.22 + no new pack B. Step the pair down: 2 × C1 if the hot pair was 2 × C2 C1 20: ₹118.00 ₹819.98 + ₹118.00 C. Mixed C1 + C2 (experimental) rides on the A and B packs no extra pack ₹830.60 + no new pack D. Eco Braided, cut 10 cm unsized; tabs: ask us 5 m roll: ₹472.00 ₹812.90 + ₹472.00 ? E. A finer step than CSI stocks WhatsApp us, or another supplier unknown: a new wick to qualify cost unknown until a supplier quotes; full retest needed C2 C1 braid old position (4.5 cm) Dot sizes mark the wick type only; CSI states no wick widths. The candles cost about the same in every option; the difference is the new wick cash and the question each one answers. Materials exclude your jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. 9 cm is your jar: CSI lists none at that width.
Five ways to fill the gap between a single wick that tunnels and a pair that runs hot in a 9 cm jar, drawn to scale and ranked by the new wick cash each needs. The black bars show that three test candles cost about the same whichever option you choose; the white segments show the only real difference, the pack you may have to buy. Option E has no bar because nobody can price a wick CSI does not stock. Dot sizes mark wick type only; CSI states no wick widths.
Straight answer
My 9 cm soy candle tunnels with one wick but burns too aggressively with two. What wick configurations should I test next?
Test the options that fill the gap in order of what they cost you. A: re-space the pair you already own, from 4.5 cm to a labelled 5.5 cm apart, three candles, no purchase. B: if the hot pair was 2 × C2, step down to 2 × C1, three candles, from a C1 20-pack (₹118.00). C: a mixed C1 + C2 pair, three candles, experimental, from the same packs. D: Eco Braided cut at a labelled 10 cm (₹9.44 a cut from the ₹472.00 5 m roll), three candles, unsized and with tabs to confirm. Pour A, B and C together in one batch of nine 300 g candles: ₹3,289.00 from nothing, ₹3,194.60 if your C2 are on the shelf. If none closes the gap, CSI has no finer step: E is a message to us or another supplier, and any new wick is a full retest. Buy production wicks only when all three candles of one configuration pass a full-life burn.
One line: the first gap-filler costs nothing, the second costs ₹118.00, and the last one is an honest "we don't stock that".
The gap-test wick order: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) for options B and C; an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) only if your shelf has fewer than 9 C2. All in stock.
Eco C1 20 — ₹118.00

Why the gap exists: CSI's steps are coarse at 9 cm

One wick is too little, two are too much. The answer is not always in between; sometimes it is in the spacing.

CSI's sized, tabbed wicks are three: Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided. In a 9 cm inside jar, one centred wick must melt 63.62 cm² alone, and each wick of a pair has 31.81 cm². Going from one Cotton Braided to two C2 roughly doubles the flames working on the same surface, with no tabbed step in between. That is a coarse jump, and at 9 cm it is easy to land on either side of it.

Before reading the ranked list, be sure both failures are real. The single should leave a ring at burn 3 with 3–4 hour sessions (the rough hour-per-2.5 cm rule gives about 3.6 hours for 9 cm), a centred wick and still air. "Too aggressive" on the pair should mean something you saw: a trimmed flame persistently past the commonly used 2.5–5 cm range, a pool well past 1 cm deep, mushrooming or soot, or flames leaning to the glass, judged by eye and never by touch. How to tell an in-between size from a spacing fault is the in-between wick post; this page owns what you buy once you know. If the single was short and you have not yet tried any pair, start with the 9 cm next-order post instead.

What you already know · worked example
9 cm inside · CSI 468 · 8% British Rose · 300 g fill · three candles per configuration
Configuration tested Per-wick area Burn-3 result What it tells the order
Cotton Braided, single 63.62 cm² ring of 2 mm or more on all three, calm flame too little heat; no bigger CSI single exists
2 × C2, 4.5 cm apart (2.25 cm to the glass) 31.81 cm² fast full pool, tall flames, pool past 1 cm too much heat at this spacing, or simply too big
Not yet tested — 2 × C1; C1 + C2; the same pair re-spaced; braid the gap-fillers below

If your 9 cm is the outside of the glass, the inside is about 8.3 cm on our 0.35 cm wall assumption (54.11 cm²), and a 2 × C2 running hot is less surprising. Measure inside edge to inside edge before you buy anything.

Don't buy yet if: the "hot" pair was judged on one candle, or on a burn longer than you would tell a customer to burn. Why: a 5-hour session can make a reasonable pair look aggressive. Argued against our own interest: re-burn the two remaining pair candles in 3–4 hour sessions before ordering a C1 pack; if they behave, you may have nothing to buy.

The ranked buy list, option by option

Rank by what you must buy, not by what sounds clever.

Each option is three 300 g candles at 8% (our labelled fill: 24 g of British Rose + 276 g of CSI 468 each), poured with the same wax, oil, load and jar batch as the candles that failed. The candles cost almost the same whichever wick goes in them, because a candle's oil and wax come to ₹261.53 before any wick: 68.6% wax and 31.4% oil at this fill.

D. Eco Braided, one 10 cm cut, centred 3 cuts 5 m roll, ₹472.00; tabs to confirm ₹9.44 ₹812.90 Does a different construction land between?
E. A finer step than CSI stocks — ask us; or another supplier — a full retest The honest end point

A: re-space the pair you own

Two flames close together can build one hot central pool that reads as "too much wick" when it is really "too close". Moving the pair from 4.5 cm to a labelled 5.5 cm apart takes each wick from 2.25 cm to 1.75 cm from the glass: the centre cools, and the flames come nearer the wall, so watch the glass by eye in the final third. The rule for reading it, and a full three-spacing ladder, is the spacing-alone post; the wall-side trade-off is the wicks-too-close-to-the-glass post. For the purchase it is simple: three candles of oil and wax, no new wicks if the hot pair's spares are on your shelf.

B: step the pair down

If the hot pair was 2 × C2, the next smaller CSI pair is 2 × C1. It also saves ₹7.08 a candle in wicks (₹11.80 against ₹18.88). If your hot pair was already 2 × C1, option B is not available: 2 × C1 is the smallest pair CSI's tabbed range can make, and a mixed pair would be bigger, not smaller. What remains is A (spacing), D (braid) and E.

Pour B at the original spacing
Change one thing per option. B keeps 4.5 cm so that, read against the hot 2 × C2, it answers only "smaller wicks?". A keeps the wicks and changes only the spacing. If you move both at once and it works, you will not know which change to keep.

One basket for options A, B and C

Nine candles, one pot, one afternoon. Three questions answered side by side.

Pour A, B and C together: same wax bag, same oil bottle, same day, same cure. Add D only if you want the braid answered in the same round.

Why three 100 g bottles: 100 + 100 + 50 g (₹896.80) leaves only 34 g, and a split result needs a three-candle re-pour of 72 g; three 100 g leave 84 g, which covers it. The wax is the same story: three bags leave 516 g, short of the 828 g a re-pour needs, so add a 500 g bag (₹325.00) only if an option splits. All nine candles burn ₹2,491.81 in materials before your jars, and every per-candle figure here excludes your jar, labour, freight, packaging and GST.

When the 500 g bottle is the honest buy
British Rose is one of the oils where size really does change the per-gram price: ₹3.42 at 100 g, ₹3.19 at 500 g, ₹3.07 at 1 kg. For a twelve-candle round (with the braid), four 100 g bottles (₹1,368.80) leave 112 g; the 500 g costs ₹224.20 more and leaves 212 g. If rose is already in your range, buy the 500 g. If this is a trial oil, buy the 100 g bottles.
Don't buy the big packs: not the C1 100, not the C2 100, not the 5 kg of wax. Every option here is three candles, and the price per wick is the same in every pack (₹5.90, ₹9.44). Argued against our own interest: the most likely result of this round is that one option leads and needs a full life to confirm; a big pack bought now is a bet on which one.

The mixed pair and the braid: experiments, labelled

Two options on this list are not on anyone's wick chart. That is why they are labelled, and why they come third and fourth.

C: one C1, one C2

A mixed pair puts a smaller and a larger flame in the same pool. In principle it sits between 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 in heat; in practice the two halves of the pool may melt unevenly, with the C2 side reaching the glass first. That is our judgement, not a measured behaviour, and it is why this option is experimental. Read each side separately at burn 3: ring width on the C1 side and the C2 side, pool depth on both. If the C2 side runs hot while the C1 side tunnels, you have learned that neither wick suits this jar, and the mixed pair is out. If both sides reach the glass calmly, it goes to a full-life test like any other configuration. It costs ₹15.34 a candle in wicks and no extra pack once A and B are bought.

D: Eco Braided, cut to length

CSI's Eco Braided Wicks are sold by the metre, unsized, for "large diameter container jars" in the page's words. A centred 10 cm cut (a labelled length; cut yours to clear your jar) costs ₹9.44 from the 5 m roll. Nobody can tell you whether it lands between Cotton Braided and a pair: the page states no braid size, which is the point of testing it. Adding D to the round costs ₹1,139.20 more in cash than A + B + C alone (the roll, a fourth 100 g bottle and a 500 g bag), ₹4,428.20 from nothing, and burns ₹812.90 in three candles. Its page does not mention tabs; the only tabs CSI lists come with the Braided Wick Roll (₹706.82, 100 tabs, ₹7.07 per tabbed wick), a different braid.

Don't buy the braid first: A costs nothing in wicks, B ₹118.00, C nothing extra. D is ₹472.00 of roll for three cuts, and 47 cuts wait in a drawer if A, B or C closes the gap. Argued against our own interest: order D only after A to C have been burned, or alongside them only if a deadline will not allow a second round.

The honest end point: when CSI has no step to sell

There is a point where the right answer is a wick we do not stock. We would rather say so than sell you another pack.

Suppose the re-spaced pair still runs hot, 2 × C1 still runs hot, the mixed pair melts unevenly and the braid tunnels. Then this jar, wax, oil and load sit between CSI's tabbed steps, and nothing else in CSI's range fills that space: no sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2, none between C2 and Cotton Braided, none above, and one wooden-wick listing with no widths. The non-wick levers (trim discipline, session length, fill height, load within the stated ceilings) are worth trying, and how to weigh them is the in-between options list. But a lever is not a wick.

Option E · what "ask on WhatsApp or another supplier" really costs
Our judgement, labelled · no CSI figures exist for wicks we don't stock
Route What it involves What it costs you
Ask CSI on WhatsApp Send inside diameter, wax, oil, load, and the A–D results A message; we will tell you plainly if we have nothing in between
Another supplier's intermediate wick A new wick, whatever its label; a full ladder and full life in your jar Their pack prices, a second shipment, and the test candles again
Change the jar or the oil instead A different diameter or a different oil changes which CSI step fits A new test of its own; see the new-jar post

A wick from another supplier is not "a C1.5". Even a wick sold under the same size label as one you know is a new wick until it passes in your jar (the supplier-switch post; and the equivalent-size claim covers why a supplier's "equivalent" needs a full-life check).

If a gap-filler wins: what production costs

The gap-filler you approve sets your wick bill for as long as the candle sells.

Price the winner before you fall in love with it. Per 1,000 candles, the wick bill for each configuration on this page:

Wick cost per 1,000 candles · flat per-wick pricing
Wicks per candle × 1,000 × price per wick · braid at a labelled 10 cm cut from 10 m rolls, tabs excluded · all figures declared
Configuration Per candle Per 1,000 candles Note
2 × C1 (B, or A if the pair was 2 × C1) ₹11.80 ₹11,800.00 the cheapest pair CSI's tabbed range makes
C1 + C2 (C) ₹15.34 ₹15,340.00 two SKUs to stock and two to place correctly
2 × C2 (A, re-spaced) ₹18.88 ₹18,880.00 the same pair at a new spacing
Eco Braided cut (D) ₹8.26 from 10 m ₹8,260.00 plus tabs, cutting and priming labour
For reference: Cotton Braided single ₹12.00 ₹12,000.00 the single that tunnelled

Then the usual step to quantity: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance). Worked example: 100 candles a month on 2 × C1 with a 5% allowance is 210 wicks, ₹1,239.00 a month, covered by two 100-packs and a 20-pack (₹1,298.00). Next to ₹7,363.20 of British Rose a month, the wick line is small. The formula and the approval gates are in the cluster hub; if the winning pair later digs a deep pool after several burns, read the deep-pool double-wick post before reordering.

1
Read burn 3 on all nineRing at four points (both sides for the mixed pair), pool depth, flame height against a ruler, soot. Keep the leading option burning.
2
Burn the leader to about 1 cm leftAll three candles. A pair that passes the top can still run hot in the final third; the two-zone scorecard reads that trade-off.
3
Approve one configurationJar, wax, oil, load, wick and spacing together. Write the spacing down in millimetres; it is part of the approval.
4
Fix the spacing for productionMeasure a Steel Wick Holder's outer holes; if they match, it gives every candle the same spacing. If not, a template and stickers.
5
Order a month plus safety stockBy the formula, from packs that add up to the count; the price per wick is the same in every pack.

How far down a test candle must burn before it counts is the acceptance-depth post.

What to buy for the gap test, and what to skip

Five items, in the order the gap test needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 24 g per 300 g candle and 12 g per 150 g candle.

wick · the step-down pair and the mixed pair
Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
C1 is the only new wick most readers in this spot need: two of them replace a hot 2 × C2, and one of them plus a C2 makes the experimental mixed pair. The page describes wicks of "natural fibers like cotton and paper" and, in the text we captured, states no length, width or jar range, so C1 is "smaller than C2" by name, not by a stated measurement. Stock on 1 October 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock; every other pack is in, flat per wick (₹5.90 C1, ₹9.44 C2). Argued against our own interest: if you still hold C2 from the hot pair, do not buy another C2 pack.

tool · a fixed spacing for production
Steel Wick Holder (Set of 5)
Useful at the end of this page, not the start. The page says "3-hole layout fits single, double, or triple wick setups" and "Fits most jar diameters (up to 9 cm wide)". The holes sit in a line and the text we captured states no spacing, so a holder gives you one spacing: whatever its outer holes measure. That makes it a poor tool for a spacing re-test, where you need 4.5 cm and 5.5 cm side by side, and a good one once the spacing is settled. A jar 9 cm inside is at or past the stated 9 cm. For the test, stickers through a paper template set any spacing for ₹100.00 a sheet of 40.

wick · unsized braid, cut to length · option D
Eco Braided Wicks (5 meter)
The one CSI option that is not a step on the C1–C2–Cotton Braided ladder. The page calls it "the perfect solution for large diameter container jars" and states no size or braid count, so nobody can tell you in advance whether a cut of it lands between Cotton Braided and a pair. That is exactly why it is a test, not a fix. At a labelled 10 cm cut, the 5 m gives fifty wicks at ₹9.44. The page does not mention tabs; ask us before you order. Braid is cheaper per metre in the 10 m roll than in the 5 m.

British Rose Fragrance Oil
The oil this page is costed on. Its listing describes "fresh, dewy rose petals with subtle green undertones and a soft floral finish" and states "candles (up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin)"; 8% is inside that and inside CSI 468's 13%, so the oil page's 10% is the governing ceiling. Lighter florals are commonly linked to burning more readily than dense gourmands, a tendency, and one reason a pair that suits vanilla can run hot with rose. Per gram it falls from ₹6.29 at 15 g to ₹3.07 at 1 kg, and the 500 g is noticeably cheaper per gram than the 100 g (₹3.19 against ₹3.42).

The worked example's wax. The page states "Melting Point 50°C – 53°C", "Pour Temperature 58°C – 60°C" and "Fragrance Load Up to 13%"; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside 13% on either reading. It claims "minimal frosting", "low soot output" and "Excellent hot and cold throw": page claims, not test results. Pour the gap test in the wax the hot pair was poured in; a wax change is a new test, not a gap-filler. The 5 kg is cheaper per gram (₹0.64) than the 1 kg (₹0.65).

Skip for this test: more Cotton Braided: it is the single that tunnelled, and CSI has none bigger. Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): one listing, no widths, so it cannot be "a bit smaller" or "a bit bigger" than anything; CSI does not sell a wider or narrower wooden wick. Eco Candle Wicks Loose: described for "2 inch diameters". And do not change wax or oil to fill a wick gap without saying so: that is a new test.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. Nine gap candles poured this week reach burn 3 within days, leaving the weeks after for the leader's full life. If you are still between steps after options A to D, message us before you buy anything else; we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Ask about a wick in between
The CSI principle
Fill the gap from the cheapest end, and know where our range stops.
Spacing costs nothing, a C1 pack costs ₹118.00, a braid roll ₹472.00. Past that, the honest answer is a wick we do not stock, and any new wick is a full retest.
"Between one wick that is too small and two that are too big, the first thing to move is the wicks, not your money."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, braid, holders, British Rose and CSI 468 named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still ranks a free option first, tells you not to buy a C2 pack you may already own, says plainly that CSI has no wick between its steps, and sends you to another supplier if that is where the answer is.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The worked-example history (Cotton Braided tunnelling, 2 × C2 hot at 4.5 cm), the 5.5 cm re-spacing, the mixed-pair reading, the 10 cm cut, the 300 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall, the allowance and the production figures are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool and flame benchmarks are commonly cited rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

Why does my candle tunnel with one wick but burn too hot with two?
Going from one wick to two is a big jump in heat, and in a 9 cm jar it is easy to land either side of it. Spacing can also make a pair look too big: two flames close together can build one hot central pool.
Can I use two different wick sizes in one candle?
You can test it. A C1 + C2 pair is an experiment: the two halves of the pool may melt unevenly. Read each side separately and approve it only if all three candles pass a full-life burn.
Is there a wick size between C2 and Cotton Braided?
Not at CSI. The sized, tabbed wicks are C1, C2 and Cotton Braided with nothing between them. Unsized Eco Braided cut to length is a different construction worth testing; for anything finer, ask us on WhatsApp or try another supplier.
Will moving my double wicks further apart make the candle less hot?
It can cool a hot centre, but it moves the flames nearer the glass. As a worked example, 4.5 cm to 5.5 cm apart takes each wick from 2.25 cm to 1.75 cm from the wall of a 9 cm inside jar. Test it; don't assume it.
How many candles do I need to test these options?
Three per option. Options A, B and C together are nine 300 g candles: 216 g of oil and 2,484 g of wax at 8%. A C1 20-pack covers B and C, and A uses the wicks you already have.
How much does a double wick candle cost in wicks per 1,000?
With CSI wicks, ₹11,800.00 for 2 × C1, ₹15,340.00 for C1 + C2 and ₹18,880.00 for 2 × C2, against ₹12,000.00 for one Cotton Braided. The price per wick is the same in every pack size.
Your gap test for a 9 cm jar
Re-space first, then 2 × C1, then the mixed pair: one C1 20-pack (₹118.00) covers the new wicks.
Pour nine 300 g candles in one batch, change one thing per option, read burn 3 and take the leader to the full life. If you are still between steps after that, ask us: we will tell you if we have nothing in between.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on jar diameter → wick testing (5501–5520) in the series on wick purchase × jar × wax × fragrance. This page answers one situation: a 9 cm soy candle that tunnels on one wick and runs too hot on two. It ranks the gap-fillers by what they cost (re-spacing, a smaller pair, a mixed pair, cut-to-length braid), gives one basket for the first three, and says where CSI's range ends.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — British Rose Fragrance Oil, Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Arshad Shaikh, Arminder Kaur, Monika Deep. Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (300 g at 8% = 24 g oil + 276 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 300 g fill, the 9 cm inside diameter and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius; wick-to-wall = r − s/2. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 468 up to 13%, pour 58–60°C; British Rose up to 10% in soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times, the 0.5–1 cm pool depth and the 2.5–5 cm flame range are commonly cited rules of thumb. The burn history, spacings, mixed-pair reading, 10 cm cut, 5% allowance and 100-candle month are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
