CSI Wick Buying · Sizing Up on Evidence
A candle that never reaches the edge earns a bigger wick only when three candles over three burns keep a ring that has stopped shrinking. Then buy six of the next rung, or pairs if you are already on Cotton Braided.

Eco C1 20 + C2 10: the double-arm order when Cotton Braided still leaves a ring · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
My candle never reaches the jar edge, even after repeated burns. What evidence says I should test the next wick size up? Three candles from the same pour, three valid burns each, and at burn 3 a ring that is still there (2 mm or more, our threshold) and stopped shrinking (less than 1 mm smaller than at burn 2), after you have ruled out centring, trim, draughts and cure. All three candles, not one.

How many of the next size should I buy? Six per configuration: three to confirm and three for a full-life replicate from a second pour. From C1, that is an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40). From C2, a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00). Both packs cover six with four spare.

I'm already on Cotton Braided. What next? CSI has no bigger sized, tabbed single wick, so the next order is a double-wick arm: three candles on two C1 and three on two C2, from a C1 20-pack and a C2 10-pack (₹212.40), plus holders.

What if the ring is still getting smaller? Keep burning and buy nothing. A ring that closes by a millimetre or more per burn hasn't finished telling you anything.
The short answer
Release: 3 candles × burns 1–3, every session long enough (about 3–4 hours at 8 cm, judgement), ring ≥ 2 mm at burn 3 and shrinking less than 1 mm from burn 2, on all three. Then buy.
Count: confirm 3 + replicate 3 = 6 of the next rung. On a single wick, the smallest pack covers it.
Top of the range: already on Cotton Braided? Order pairs, 2 × C1 and 2 × C2, three candles each: ₹212.40 of wicks, ₹500.00 for ten Steel Wick Holders, or ₹250.00 for five plus one improvised.
The honest limit: 8 cm is your jar, not a CSI listing; CSI's tabbed singles stop at Cotton Braided; and the tabbed packs cost the same per wick at every size.
Never reaches the edge: the log that releases the order Worked example: your jar, 8.0 cm inside (CSI lists none at 8 cm), 200 g at 8% Gilli Mitti in CSI 464, three candles on Cotton Braided. Rings measured at four points after each burn and averaged. Views drawn to scale. Not CSI burn data. Burn 1 Burn 2 Burn 3 Candle A Cotton Braided ring 6 mm ring 5 mm ring 5 mm Candle B Cotton Braided ring 7 mm ring 6 mm ring 6 mm Candle C Cotton Braided ring 6 mm ring 5 mm ring 5 mm Release check burn 3: 5 mm (≥ 2 mm) 2 → 3: 0 mm shrink (< 1 mm) not shrinking: counts burn 3: 6 mm (≥ 2 mm) 2 → 3: 0 mm shrink (< 1 mm) not shrinking: counts burn 3: 5 mm (≥ 2 mm) 2 → 3: 0 mm shrink (< 1 mm) not shrinking: counts 3.5 cm The next arm two wicks, to scale 2 × C1 and 2 × C2, 3 candles each 25.13 cm² per wick 2.25 cm wick to wall C1 20 + C2 10 = ₹212.40 + holders ₹50.00 each All three candles, three valid burns, ring ≥ 2 mm and shrinking < 1 mm from burn 2 to 3: buy the next arm. Thresholds are our judgement. A 5 mm ring in this jar leaves 23.4% of the surface unmelted; 6 mm leaves 27.8%. If any ring is still closing by a millimetre or more per burn, keep burning instead: that candle has not finished telling you.
Left: a worked-example ring log for three Cotton Braided candles in an 8.0 cm inside jar, drawn to scale. The grey pool shrinks the white ring by only a millimetre from burn 1 to 2 and not at all from burn 2 to 3, on all three candles. That pattern, and not one candle's first burn, is what releases a purchase. Right: the arm you buy next when the wick is already CSI's top tabbed single, two wicks 3.5 cm apart. The spacing is a starting point for testing, not a rule.
Straight answer
My candle never reaches the jar edge even after repeated burns. What evidence would indicate I should test the next wick size up?
The evidence is a pattern, not a single burn. Pour three candles together. Burn each of them three times in still air, with the wick centred and trimmed to about 5–6 mm, for sessions long enough for the jar (roughly 3–4 hours at 8 cm, our judgement). After every burn, measure the ring at four points. You have the evidence when, on all three candles, the ring at burn 3 is still at least about 2 mm and is less than 1 mm smaller than at burn 2. Those thresholds are our judgement, chosen because they show up in a photo and a ruler. At that point, buy six of the next rung: three to confirm and three for a full-life replicate from a second pour. From Eco C1 that is a C2 10-pack (₹94.40); from C2, a Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00). If you are already on Cotton Braided, the largest sized, tabbed single wick CSI lists, the order switches to a double-wick arm: two C1 and two C2, three candles each, from a C1 20-pack and a C2 10-pack (₹212.40), with holders. If any ring is still closing, buy nothing yet and keep burning.
One line: three candles, three burns, a ring that has stopped shrinking; then six of the next rung, or pairs if you are already on Cotton Braided.
The size-up order from Cotton Braided: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) + Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) + Steel Wick Holders. All in stock on 1 October 2026.
Eco C1/C2 — from ₹94.40

The release threshold, condition by condition

"Never reaches the edge" is a claim about three candles and three burns. Make it on less and you are buying on a hunch.

Each condition below rules out a cause that isn't the wick. If one fails, the purchase isn't released. That isn't because the wick is fine; it's because you don't yet know. The thresholds are our judgement, labelled, and readable with a ruler and a photo.

Release threshold for a next-rung purchase · our judgement, labelled
Every condition must hold on all three candles · rules of thumb are labelled as such
Condition What it rules out If it fails
1 · Three candles, one pour A single bad tab, air pocket or jar Pour two more before deciding
2 · Free checks passed: wick centred, trimmed to about 5–6 mm, still air, cure done Off-centre wicks, short flames, draughts, an unfinished cure Fix and restart the count at burn 1
3 · Every session long enough: about 3–4 hours at 8 cm (judgement; rule of thumb about 3.2 hours) Short sessions that never let the pool finish That burn doesn't count
4 · Ring at burn 3 is 2 mm or more, measured at four points Rings too thin to matter Read the catch-up post: it may be acceptable
5 · Ring shrank less than 1 mm from burn 2 to burn 3 A ring that is still closing Keep burning; buy nothing yet
6 · The same on all three candles One odd candle Re-pour three; check the odd one's centring

In the worked example, the three Cotton Braided candles in an 8.0 cm inside jar log rings of 6, 5 and 5 mm (A), 7, 6 and 6 mm (B) and 6, 5 and 5 mm (C). A 5 mm ring in this jar leaves 23.4% of the surface unmelted, and 6 mm leaves 27.8%. That is wax the customer pays for and never smells. Every condition holds, so the purchase is released.

Two neighbouring cases look similar but don't release anything. A candle that reaches the glass only near the four-hour mark but burns cleanly is a session-length question, not automatically an undersized wick; the 8 cm nearly-four-hours post sets out how to judge it against how long customers actually burn. And a wide jar whose ring is shrinking slowly, burn over burn, belongs to a continue-or-change gate rather than a purchase; the 10 cm four-hours post lays that gate out, including running the next rung in parallel. This page owns what you buy once the evidence is in.

Mistake: sizing up after one candle's third burn. Why it fails: one candle's ring can come from its own tab sitting 3 mm off centre. The next rung then over-wicks the other two, and you've bought the wrong pack. Fix: wait for all three, or pour more. And if the hub's advice was followed, the next rung is already in your drawer (keep the next rung on hand), so waiting for evidence costs no shipping time.

The next-rung order, by the wick you are on now

The evidence tells you to go up. Where "up" goes depends on where you are standing.

CSI's sized, tabbed rungs run C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided, with no size in between and none above. So the purchase that the threshold releases is one of three orders. All are costed at the worked example's 200 g fill (16 g Gilli Mitti + 184 g CSI 464, load as a percentage of total weight) and exclude your jars.

Cotton Braided Holders for the pairs 6 double jars poured together Steel Wick Holder pack of 10 (or 5 + one improvised) ₹500.00 (₹250.00) ₹50.00 reusable

Across every row, the wick is the cheap part. A two-C2 candle in this worked example is ₹255.60 in materials before the jar, and 56.1% of that is the Gilli Mitti. So when you size up, the real cost is the candles you pour around the new wick. Keep the counts tight.

Don't buy the big pack: not the C2 100 (₹944.00), not the Cotton Braided 100 (₹1,200.00). The threshold tells you which direction to test, not which wick will pass the full life, and these packs cost exactly what the same wicks cost in a 10. Argued against our own interest: six wicks is the test. The 100 comes after approval, sized by the formula below.

Why six of the next rung: confirm three, replicate three

Three candles tell you the next rung works. Three more, from another pour, tell you it wasn't luck.

The first three candles of the new rung are poured beside the evidence: same wax lot, same oil bottle, same jar batch. They are screened at burn 3 and, if they lead, burned to about 1 cm left. That is the full-life gate in the series approval rule. The second three come from a separate pour on another day, burned the same way. Our reasoning, labelled as judgement: a wick approved on one pour has only been tested against that pour's temperature, mixing and jar lot. A second pour costs three candles and catches the batch that would otherwise surprise you in production.

That is why the count is six, and why the smallest pack still covers it. A C2 10-pack holds six with four spare; so does a Cotton Braided 10-pack. With CSI's flat per-wick pricing, there is nothing to gain from a bigger pack and a shelf to fill if the step fails.

Confirm three show… Replicate three show… Decision Next purchase
Reach the glass by burn 2–3, clean full life The same Approved for this jar, wax, oil and load Production, by the formula

Reach the glass, but run hot or deep in the final third — The answer may sit between two rungs Pairs of the lower rung, or ask us
Still leave a ring — Step again The next row of the buy list
Keep the losers' wicks
The wicks left in each pack after a test are your retained samples. If a later production batch behaves differently, you can burn a retained wick from the approval pack beside a new one. That is cheaper than any lab, and it only works if you didn't throw the pack away.

Already on Cotton Braided: the double-arm order

CSI doesn't sell a bigger single tabbed wick than Cotton Braided. When it isn't enough, the honest next step is two wicks.

Cotton Braided's page describes it for candles "exceeding 8 cm". An 8.0 cm inside jar is right on that line, so a ring on Cotton Braided here isn't a contradiction; it's the boundary. Above Cotton Braided, CSI lists unsized cut-to-length braid (the Braided Wick Roll and Eco Braided Wicks) and one wooden wick with no widths. None of those is a known step up; they are different constructions, which belong in a type-swap test (the tall-flame type-swap post). The known step up is a pair.

Why two arms rather than one? Two C1 and two C2 bracket the double-wick answer from both sides. Two C1 might be too little heat, and two C2 too much, in a jar where one Cotton Braided was just short. Testing both in one pour finds the pair that sits between them, with a documented fail on at least one side. The geometry, which is arithmetic rather than a burn prediction:

Single vs double in an 8.0 cm inside jar · geometry, declared
π r² on the inside diameter · spacing is a starting point for testing (judgement), not a rule
Configuration Surface per wick Wick to wall Wick cost per candle
One Cotton Braided, centred 50.27 cm² 4.0 cm ₹12.00
Two C1, 3.5 cm apart on a diameter 25.13 cm² 2.25 cm ₹11.80
Two C2, 3.5 cm apart on a diameter 25.13 cm² 2.25 cm ₹18.88

Two C1 cost ₹0.20 less per candle than one Cotton Braided; two C2 cost ₹6.88 more. The spacing is where pairs most often go wrong, and it is a method in its own right: the double-wick spacing post covers it, and the 8.5 cm double-arm post weighs one bigger wick against two smaller ones at the design stage. The 9 cm case, where a single wick falls just short, has its own after-failure list in the 9 cm pairs-and-braid post. Here the point is the order: two packs and a set of holders.

Holders. Each double jar needs its pair held upright until the wax sets, so the holder count is the number of double jars you pour at once. Six jars poured together means six holders: a Steel Wick Holder pack of 10 (₹500.00), or a pack of 5 (₹250.00) plus two sticks and tape for the sixth. The page says the holder fits jars "up to 9 cm wide"; your jar is about 8.7 cm outside on our wall assumption. Its three holes are in a line and their spacing isn't stated, so measure before you rely on them. How many holders production needs is the fixture-count post.

Don't buy yet: the second C2 10-pack. The confirm stage uses six C2 and the 10-pack holds ten. Only if two C2 wins do you need six more for the replicate, 2 more than you have. Buy that pack then (₹94.40). If two C1 wins, the C1 20-pack already covers both stages with 8 to spare.

The double-arm bill: candles, grams, rupees

Six confirm candles now, three replicate candles later. Buy the oil for nine, because it is the thing you can't top up cheaply.
1
Re-measure the jarInside diameter at the rim, middle and base of three jars from the batch you will sell in. An 8 cm figure read off the outside is not 8 cm inside; see external versus internal diameter.
2
Pour six from one potSix candles: 96 g of Gilli Mitti and 1,104 g of CSI 464, mixed once. Three on two C1, three on two C2, every pair set 3.5 cm apart in a holder.
3
Burn alongside the Cotton Braided candlesSame room, same sessions, same log: rings at four points, pool depth, flame height for each wick. Pairs can lean together as the pool deepens; watch the centre between them.
4
Screen at burn 3Keep the arm that reaches the glass without a deep centre pool or tall flames. If both reach the glass, the gentler pair (two C1) usually deserves the full life first (judgement).
5
Pour the replicate threeOn a different day, from fresh melt, 48 g of oil, same pair, same spacing. Burn all six of the winning configuration to about 1 cm left.
6
Judge heat by eyeTwo flames put more heat into the glass than one. Watch flame-to-glass distance in the final third; never judge the glass by touch. CSI lists no non-contact thermometer.

From nothing, the double arm costs ₹3,071.20 in cash (wick packs, ten holders, 150 g of oil, 2 kg of wax), or ₹712.40 if you already have the oil and wax. With five holders and an improvised sixth, the wick-and-holder part drops to ₹462.40. Every figure excludes your jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Don't buy the 500 g of oil: Gilli Mitti is flat at ₹8.96 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so the 500 g (₹4,480.00) saves nothing per gram. It costs ₹3,136.00 more than 100 g + 50 g and leaves 356 g in the bottle before you know whether pairs work in this jar. Argued against our own interest: buy the 500 g when the pair is approved and you are pouring for sale.

After approval: what a pair costs in production

Two wicks double the wick line. They don't double the candle's cost, but they do change the order maths.

When all six candles of one pair pass the full life, size the order from your production: wicks to buy = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance). With two wicks per candle, the count doubles. The 5% allowance is our worked-example figure.

Production worked example · 120 candles a month · two C2 approved

What the pair adds 120 candles ₹825.60 a month ₹6.88 a candle
Holders one per jar in each pour ₹250.00 for a five-jar pour reusable; see the fixture-count post

Reorder point = daily use × your lead time + safety stock. At 252 wicks a month, about 8.4 a day; with a 7-day lead time and five days of safety stock (your figures; CSI publishes no lead times or stock depth), reorder at about 101 wicks. Count in wicks, not candles: running out of the second wick stops a double-wick line just as surely as running out of the first.

Going from one large wick to two smaller ones on a product you already sell is a change, and it needs more than a melt-pool check: heat, soot and burn time all move. The one-large-to-two-small change-control post lists what to revalidate. If the pair later runs deep, the double-wick deep-pool post covers the retest buy.

Don't jump to the 1,000-pack: at 252 a month, a C2 1,000-pack (₹9,440.00) is nearly four months of stock at the same ₹9.44 a wick as the 10-pack, and a change of jar batch or oil can send a double-wick candle back to testing faster than a single. Buy a month plus safety stock.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
When Cotton Braided, CSI's top tabbed single rung, still leaves a ring, the next step is two wicks, and C1 and C2 are the two pairs CSI's range can make. The page describes wicks of "natural fibers like cotton and paper" and states no length, width or jar range in the text we captured. Stock on 1 October 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock, so the C1 20-pack is the smallest; every C2 pack is in stock. Flat per wick at every pack (₹5.90 C1, ₹9.44 C2). Argued against our own interest: buy the C2 10 now, and a second 10 only if two C2 wins the confirm stage. That keeps ₹94.40 in your pocket until the candles have earned it.

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
The wick in the worked example, and the next rung if you are on C2. The page says "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", with "preventing tunneling" as the page's own claim, and "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm". An 8 cm inside diameter is right on its stated line, so it can fail here without contradicting anything; the page sets a starting point, not a promise. Limitation: it is the largest sized, tabbed single wick CSI lists. If it leaves a ring that doesn't shrink, there is no bigger single to buy from us; that is when the order becomes a pair.

The oil this page is costed on. The page states "The recommended fragrance load is 6-10% for candles", so 8% sits inside it and inside CSI 464's 10%; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight. Notes as listed: "fresh rain, soft soil, natural patchouli, damp woods, and light musk". The page describes it as "IFRA-certified"; that is the page's wording, and documentation is on request on WhatsApp. In the text we captured it states no cure time and no wick advice. Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026, flat at ₹8.96 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg. Limitation: at that price, a test candle's oil (₹143.36) costs far more than its wicks, so every extra arm is mostly an oil decision.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The worked example's wax. The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C", and claims "excellent glass adhesion" for single-pour container candles. Pour the double arm from the same lot as the Cotton Braided candles if you still have it. Price is flat at ₹0.51 a gram from 1 kg to 10 kg.

Skip for this order: Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10), one listing with no widths, so not a size step; the Eco Candle Wicks Loose, whose page describes it for "2 inch diameters", far below this jar; and the Bamboo Wick Holder (₹118.00 for 5) for the pairs, because its page, in the text we captured, describes holding "your wick" and says nothing about two-wick layouts or jar sizes.

Diwali is 8 November 2026. A double arm poured in the first week of October can be screened by mid-month; the replicate and the full lives take the rest. Send us your ring log, inside diameter and target count on WhatsApp, and we will quote the approved pair, holders and oil with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.
WhatsApp the size-up order
The CSI principle
Size up on a pattern, not a burn.
Three candles, three valid burns and a ring that has stopped shrinking release six of the next rung. At the top of CSI's singles, the next rung is a pair.
"A ring that is still closing is still talking. Buy when it stops."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, holders, oil and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy nothing while a ring is closing, to buy six wicks rather than a hundred, to delay the second C2 pack until it is needed, that our tabbed singles stop at Cotton Braided, that our holder's hole spacing isn't stated, and that we list no 8 cm jar.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The release thresholds (2 mm, 1 mm, three candles), the confirm-plus-replicate count, the 8.0 cm inside diameter, the 0.35 cm wall, the 3.5 cm spacing, the ring log, the 120-candle month and the 5% allowance are our judgement or worked examples. Session lengths and melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb, not CSI data, and CSI publishes no wick-performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my candle never melt to the edge of the jar?
If the wick is centred and trimmed, the air is still, the sessions are long enough and three candles all keep a ring that stops shrinking, the wick is most likely too small for the jar, wax and oil. Fewer candles or burns than that and other causes are still in play.
How do I know when to go up a wick size?
Our threshold: on all three test candles, the ring at burn 3 is still 2 mm or more and shrank less than 1 mm from burn 2. Then test six of the next rung: three to confirm, three from a second pour.
What is bigger than a Cotton Braided wick at CSI?
No sized, tabbed single. Cotton Braided is the top of CSI's tabbed range. The next tested step is two wicks, two C1 or two C2, in a holder. The braided rolls and the wooden wick are different constructions, not known steps up.
How many test wicks should I buy when sizing up?
Six per configuration: three confirm candles and three replicate candles. The smallest CSI packs cover it: C2 10 (₹94.40) or Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00). For pairs, a C1 20 and a C2 10 (₹212.40).
Is a double wick better for an 8 cm jar?
Not automatically. An 8 cm inside jar is 50.27 cm² for one wick, or 25.13 cm² each for two. Use two only when the largest single you can buy still leaves a ring on the evidence above, and test both a gentler and a stronger pair.
How many wick holders do I need for double-wick candles?
One per double jar poured at the same time, because each stays on until the wax sets. Six jars in one pour need six: a Steel Wick Holder pack of 10 (₹500.00) or a pack of 5 plus one improvised holder.
Never reaches the edge
Three candles, three burns, a ring that stopped shrinking: then six of the next rung, or pairs from ₹212.40.
Log the rings, check the six conditions, and buy only the smallest pack that covers confirm and replicate. Send us your ring log and inside diameter on WhatsApp and we will check the order before you pay.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on wick symptoms → purchase decisions (5541–5560). It sets the evidence threshold that releases a next-rung purchase when a candle never reaches the edge, the confirm-plus-replicate count and smallest packs for each starting rung, the switch to a double-wick order when the wick is already Cotton Braided, the costed double-arm bill and the production order for a pair.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 8.0 cm inside diameter is the reader's jar (CSI lists no jar at 8 cm); the 8.7 cm outside figure uses a labelled 0.35 cm wall; pool area = π r² on the inside radius; two wicks on a diameter at spacing s sit r − s/2 from the wall. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Gilli Mitti 6–10%): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Session lengths and melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. The release thresholds, ring log, spacing, 120-candle month, lead time and 5% allowance are worked examples and editorial judgement. Costs exclude jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
