My Wax Costs ₹650 Per Kg and Oud Fragrance Costs ₹5,000 Per Kg — What Is the Raw-Material Cost of a 200 g Candle at 6%, 8% and 10% Fragrance Load?
Aktie
How much is each step worth? ₹20.00 for every two points, because two points of 200 g is 4 g of oil and 4 g at your ₹5,000.00/kg is ₹20.00. From 6% to 10% is ₹40.00, which is 20.4% of the 6% candle. On this page a 200 g candle means 200 g of wax, so the jar receives 212 g, 216 g or 220 g.
Can I go above 10% on this pairing? Not on the published figures. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states a maximum of 13% of total wax weight, but the Woody Oud Fragrance Oil page states soy candle use at 6–10% of total wax weight, and where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower figure governs. On this pairing 10% is the top of the range, not a starting point.
What would the same three rows cost in CSI materials? ₹180.07, ₹198.20 and ₹216.32 at September 2026 pricing, using Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599.00/kg, Woody Oud Fragrance Oil at ₹4.53/g and the same ₹5.90 wick. The step there is ₹18.13 rather than ₹20.00, because the oil is cheaper per gram.
The three rows, and the one line that moves
Before the arithmetic, the reading. A fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight — that is how Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states its maximum and how Woody Oud Fragrance Oil states its soy range — so “a 200 g candle” in a load question means 200 g of wax with the oil added on top. This page carries that reading throughout: 200 g of wax in every row. The jar therefore receives 212 g at 6%, 216 g at 8% and 220 g at 10%, which is an 8 g spread and worth checking against your own vessel before you assume one jar takes all three.
Now the money. Your wax at ₹650.00 a kilogram makes 200 g cost ₹130.00, and that figure is the same in all three rows. A wick — Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90, live CSI pricing, because your question did not name one — is also the same in all three rows. Your vessel, whatever it costs, is the same in all three rows. So the entire difference between a 6% candle and a 10% candle is 8 g of oud, and at your ₹5,000.00 a kilogram that is ₹40.00.
| Load | Oil | Wax at your ₹650.00/kg | Oud at your ₹5,000.00/kg | Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | Materials | Step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 12 g | ₹130.00 | ₹60.00 | ₹5.90 | ₹195.90 | — |
| 8% | 16 g | ₹130.00 | ₹80.00 | ₹5.90 | ₹215.90 | +₹20.00 |
| 10% | 20 g | ₹130.00 | ₹100.00 | ₹5.90 | ₹235.90 | +₹20.00 |
| Fill in the jar | 212 g / 216 g / 220 g | 200 g of wax throughout | — | — | — | — |
| Your vessel | 1 | — | — | — | your figure | no change |
There is a second way to read the same table that is more useful when you are comparing products rather than loads. Express the oud as a share of the scented wax: it is 31.6% of the mixture cost at 6%, 38.1% at 8% and 43.5% at 10%. Past about 8% on an oil this expensive you are no longer making a wax candle with fragrance in it; you are making a fragrance product carried in wax, and it should be priced like one. That is a positioning fact rather than a formulation one, and it is the reason a premium oriental range can carry a higher shelf price honestly.
Cost per gram, and why the 10% candle is dearer twice over
Divide each row by what actually goes in the jar and a second effect appears. At 6% the candle holds 212 g and costs ₹0.92 a gram of finished candle. At 8% it holds 216 g at ₹1.00 a gram. At 10% it holds 220 g at ₹1.07 a gram. The per-gram rate rises even though you are adding grams, because the grams you are adding are the expensive ones. A customer holding two of your candles cannot see that; a costing sheet that reports only totals cannot see it either.
This is the figure to carry into a pricing conversation, because it is the only one that survives a change of jar size. If you sell a 200 g wax pour at 8% and a smaller one at the same load, both are ₹1.00 a gram of finished candle before the vessel, and the difference in their material cost is purely the vessel and the grams. Keep one rate per load, labelled with its load and its date, and re-derive it only when a price or a load changes.
| Load | Fill in the jar | Scented wax cost | Per gram of finished candle | Oud as a share of the mixture |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 212 g | ₹190.00 | ₹0.92/g | 31.58% |
| 8% | 216 g | ₹210.00 | ₹1.00/g | 38.10% |
| 10% | 220 g | ₹230.00 | ₹1.07/g | 43.48% |
Running the three rows on your own rates
Which published figure caps the top row
A load has two published constraints and makers routinely read only one of them. The wax has a stated maximum: the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states up to 13% of total wax weight. The oil has a stated range: the Woody Oud Fragrance Oil page states 6–10% of total wax weight for soy candles, and 6–8% for paraffin. Where the two differ, the lower figure governs. On this pairing the oil is the binding constraint, so your 10% row sits exactly on the limit of the published range and there is no headroom above it — even though the wax page would allow another three points on a different oil.
It is worth saying plainly what these two published numbers are. They are the formulation maximums the manufacturers state on their own product pages — not a rule imposed from outside the trade, and not a promise about how a candle will perform. MSDS and IFRA documentation is available on request through WhatsApp, and the Woody Oud Fragrance Oil page does not publish a numeric flash point, so no flash point is quoted here — where a page does not publish a figure, this series says so rather than estimating one.
| Source | What the page states | Applies to | Effect on this candle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Up to 13% of total wax weight | The wax, whatever oil you use | Would allow all three rows and more |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil | Soy 6–10% of total wax weight; paraffin 6–8% | The oil, whatever wax you use | Caps this candle at 10% |
| The governing figure | The lower of the two | Every pairing | 10% of wax weight, or 20 g on 200 g |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil cure | 48 to 72 hours for best scent throw | Burn testing | The earliest an honest comparison can be made |
The same three rows on materials you can buy today
Your rates are yours and may be good ones. Here is the identical exercise — 200 g of wax, three loads, one wick — run on live CSI stock in September 2026. The wax is Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, bought as the 1 kg pack at ₹599.00, which is ₹599.00 a kilogram. The fragrance is Woody Oud Fragrance Oil, bought as the 1 kg pack at ₹4,531.20, which is ₹4.53 a gram. The wick is the same Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90.
| Load | Oil | Your materials | CSI materials | Difference | CSI step |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 12 g | ₹195.90 | ₹180.07 | ₹15.83 lower | — |
| 8% | 16 g | ₹215.90 | ₹198.20 | ₹17.70 lower | +₹18.13 |
| 10% | 20 g | ₹235.90 | ₹216.32 | ₹19.58 lower | +₹18.12 |
| Wax line | 200 g | ₹130.00 | ₹119.80 | ₹10.20 lower | no change |
| Per gram of finished candle at 8% | 216 g | ₹1.00/g | ₹0.92/g | — | — |
Read the two columns as two separate decisions, because that is what they are. The rate decision is worth ₹10.20 on the wax and ₹7.50 on the oil at 8%, so ₹17.70 a candle in total. The load decision — whether your candle needs 10% or performs at 8% — is worth ₹20.00 a candle on your own materials, and it costs nothing to investigate beyond three test pours and a cure. If you only have the appetite for one experiment this month, run the load test. It is the larger number and it is the one that also tells you something about your product.
A second honest point about the CSI column: its step is smaller, at ₹18.13 rather than ₹20.00, purely because Woody Oud Fragrance Oil is cheaper per gram than your ₹5,000.00/kg oud. A cheaper oil makes load increases cheaper, which is exactly how makers drift upward without noticing. The published range does not widen because the oil got cheaper — it is still 6–10% of total wax weight — so hold the ceiling where the page puts it and let the burn test, not the price per gram, decide where inside it you sit.
Pack sizes, parcels, and what is not in the figure
Once the load is settled, the next instinct is a bigger pack. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the rate per kilogram barely moves across the ladder, and not in the direction you would expect: 500 g works out at ₹598.00 a kilogram, the 1 kg and 5 kg packs at ₹599.00, and the 10 kg pack at ₹599.90. The whole spread across the ladder is ₹1.90 a kilogram, which on 200 g of wax is under half a rupee. Across CSI's wax range most grades are the same rate at every pack size, so treat pack choice as a question about parcels and storage, not about rate.
Woody Oud Fragrance Oil does have a ladder and it is entirely at the bottom: ₹6.21 a gram at 15 gm, ₹5.43 at 50 gm, then ₹4.53 at 100 gm, 500 gm and 1 kg alike. Moving from the trial 15 gm size to the 100 gm takes ₹26.94 off a 16 g dose and moving from 50 gm to 100 gm takes ₹14.35; beyond 100 gm the rate does not change, so the kilogram buys you convenience and a single parcel rather than a better rate. At 16 g a candle a kilogram of this oud is 62.5 candles of one scent — 83.3 at 6% and 50 at 10% — which is the real question to ask before committing.
| Product and pack | Pack price | Rate | In one candle at 8% | Candles it covers at 8% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 500 g | ₹299.00 | ₹598.00/kg | ₹119.60 | 2.5 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg | ₹599.00 | ₹599.00/kg | ₹119.80 | 5 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 5 kg | ₹2,995.00 | ₹599.00/kg | ₹119.80 | 25 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 10 kg | ₹5,999.00 | ₹599.90/kg | ₹119.98 | 50 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 15 gm | ₹93.22 | ₹6.21/g | ₹99.43 | 0.94 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 50 gm | ₹271.40 | ₹5.43/g | ₹86.85 | 3.13 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 100 gm | ₹453.12 | ₹4.53/g | ₹72.50 | 6.25 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 500 gm | ₹2,265.60 | ₹4.53/g | ₹72.50 | 31.25 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 1 kg | ₹4,531.20 | ₹4.53/g | ₹72.50 | 62.5 |
Finally, the blanks. Three of the four lines in this candle are priced above; the fourth, your vessel, is yours because your question does not name it, and it is the same figure in every row. Everything below is not a CSI product at all, which means no honest number for it exists here. Total your sheet as materials from CSI plus your own costs, and never put a typical figure in a blank — the live guide to wax, fragrance, wick, jar and packaging cost per candle walks the rest of the bill.
| Line | Why it is blank | Your figure |
|---|---|---|
| Vessel | A CSI product, but yours is not named — and it is identical in all three rows | — |
| Lid or cap | A CSI product where you use one, and not every candle has one | — |
| Label and printing | Not a CSI product | — |
| Outer box, mailer, void fill | Not a CSI product | — |
| Ribbon, tags, tissue | Not a CSI product | — |
| Courier to your own customer | CSI publishes rates for delivering to you, not for your outbound parcels | — |
| Payment gateway or marketplace fee | Not a CSI product and varies by platform | — |
| Electricity, gas and melting time | Not a CSI product | — |
| Your labour, per candle | Not a CSI product, and the line most makers leave at zero | — |
| Wastage allowance | An assumption, not a measurement — set your own percentage after a batch | — |
| Materials on your rates at 8% | Wax, oud and wick | ₹215.90 |
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells the wax and the fragrance on this page, and the page still says the obvious thing: the cheapest change available to you is not a supplier change. Moving from 10% to 8% takes ₹20.00 off your candle. Moving your whole purchase to the CSI pairing at the same 8% takes ₹17.70 off it. Find out first whether your oud actually needs 10% — an oriental this heavy is often heard perfectly well lower down its range — and only then shop the rate. Reducing a load you have not burn-tested at is not a saving either; it is an untested candle.
Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance load is quoted throughout as a percentage of wax weight, which is how the CSI product pages state it. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page states a maximum fragrance load of 13% of total wax weight; the Woody Oud Fragrance Oil page states soy candle use at 6–10% of total wax weight and a 48–72 hour cure before burn testing; where the two differ the lower figure governs, which puts the top row of this page at the limit of the published range rather than above it. Each of those numbers is a formulation maximum stated by the manufacturer on its own product page, and MSDS and IFRA documentation is available on request. The ₹650.00/kg and ₹5,000.00/kg are your figures, carried unrounded and never presented as CSI prices. Zero wastage is assumed, which is an assumption and not a measurement. Shipping is quoted only as a published flat band by weight as at September 2026; labels, boxes, courier to your own customer, gateway fees, labour, electricity and rent are not CSI products and are left blank.

Figures verified September 2026 (CSI live pricing). The reader's figures, used exactly as given in the question and never presented as CSI prices: wax ₹650.00 per kg, oud fragrance oil ₹5,000.00 per kg, one 200 g candle, loads of 6%, 8% and 10%. Series convention: fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight. This page carries the reading where 200 g is the wax, so the oil is 12 g, 16 g and 20 g and the jar receives 212 g, 216 g and 220 g; the alternative reading (200 g of finished fill) is given in the FAQ. Live CSI prices, September 2026, taxes included. Wax: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 500 g ₹299.00 (₹598.00/kg), 1 kg ₹599.00 (₹599.00/kg), 5 kg ₹2,995.00 (₹599.00/kg), 10 kg ₹5,999.00 (₹599.90/kg); the page states a maximum fragrance load of 13% of total wax weight, excellent adhesion to glass and container surfaces, and a chunk form. Fragrance: Woody Oud Fragrance Oil 15 gm ₹93.22 (₹6.21/g), 50 gm ₹271.40 (₹5.43/g), 100 gm ₹453.12 (₹4.53/g), 500 gm ₹2,265.60 (₹4.53/g), 1 kg ₹4,531.20 (₹4.53/g); the page states an oriental, woody, exotic family, soy candle use at 6–10% of total wax weight, paraffin at 6–8%, and a cure of 48 to 72 hours; it publishes no numeric flash point, so none is quoted here. Where the wax maximum and the oil range differ, the lower figure governs. Wick: Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 100 for ₹590.00 (₹5.90 each, the same rate at the 20, 50, 500 and 1000 packs); Thick (C2) ₹9.44 each. Shipping: the 1 kg wax pack stores a packed weight of 1.0 kg, the 5 kg pack 5.0 kg and the 1 kg oil pack 1.5 kg; the cheapest published bands covering those weights in September 2026 are ₹110.00, ₹450.00 and ₹180.00 on Standard Shipping, and the band covering the 1 kg wax and 1 kg oil together is ₹270.00. Rates are published flat bands as at September 2026 and can change. Published order-value discount codes quoted: HAPPY5 5% over ₹5,000, BIZWIZ8 8% over ₹12,000, YAY10 10% over ₹20,000; these are order-value discounts, not quantity breaks. Illustrative and assumed: the vessel is left as a blank throughout and is identical in all three rows; the page assumes zero wastage, which is an assumption and not measured data; the 14–21 day cure guidance is general practice for soy container candles rather than a CSI statement. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
