Commercial Fragrance · Strong Wax Melts
Every melt buyer wants "strong". Nobody — including us — can promise it from a product page, because strength in a warmer depends on your wax, your load, your cure and the customer's room as much as on the oil. What we can give you is an honest shortlist, the levers that matter, and a cheap way to find your strongest oil in your own wax.
₹62.96
oil for a two-load strength screen of Eucalyptus Spearmint — six 10 g melts at 10% and six at 13% (13.80 g from one 15 g tester) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which fragrance oils are strongest in wax melts? We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so we will not rank them. Oils worth testing first: Cinnamon, Spicy Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Apple Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lemongrass and Lime, Gilli Mitti, Vanilla Bean and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco — reasons in the candidate list.

What makes a wax melt strong? A load inside the wax's stated ceiling, a full melt in the warmer, proper cure time, the oil's own formulation, the melt size against the warmer dish, and the room. Only the first three and the melt size are fully yours to control.

Will adding more fragrance oil make my melts stronger? Up to a point, and never past the wax's ceiling: 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 10% on CSI 464. Past the ceiling the wax may not hold the oil. Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts covers finding the load that actually performs.

How do I test which oil is strongest? Pour six illustrative 10 g melts at 10% and six at 13% on Chunks — 13.80 g of oil, which one 15 g tester covers. Cure, then warm them side by side in one warmer and one room. Which Fragrance Oils Give the Strongest Throw in Wax Melts? has the full matrix and scoring sheet.
The short answer
Candidates: Spice (Cinnamon, Spicy Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Apple Cinnamon), mint (Eucalyptus Spearmint), sharp citrus-herbal (Lemongrass and Lime), earthy (Gilli Mitti), gourmand (Vanilla Bean, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco). Worth testing — not ranked.
Levers: Load within the ceiling (Chunks 13%, CSI 464 10%), full melt, cure time, melt size, oil choice. No melt-specific wax is listed; confirm the maximum for any other wax.
Screen: Six melts at 10% + six at 13% = 13.80 g of oil per candidate. All nine candidates screened for ₹1,325.58 in testers.
What makes a wax melt smell strong — and which of it you control Bar length is a teaching order, not a measurement. CSI has not published throw measurements for any oil. Load, inside the ceiling Full melt in the warmer Cure time Oil formulation Melt size vs warmer dish Room size & airflow you set it · Chunks ≤13% customer's warmer; test in yours you set it · rest before judging choice of oil · test it you set it · weigh a cavity customer's room More oil past the wax's ceiling is not on this chart: it is not a lever, it is a fault.
The order of the bars is a way of explaining where makers usually find strength, not a measured weighting. The load bar stops at the wax's stated ceiling — 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and 10% for CSI 464 — because above that, extra oil is a formulation fault rather than a way to add scent.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils make the strongest wax melts?
No honest supplier can answer that from a price list, and we have not published throw measurements for any oil. Strength in a warmer comes from several things at once: a load inside the wax's stated ceiling (13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 10% on CSI 464), a full melt, enough cure time, the oil's own formulation, the size of the melt against the warmer dish, and the customer's room. What we can do is give you candidates worth testing first, with reasons. Spice oils such as Cinnamon, Spicy Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice, mint in Eucalyptus Spearmint, the sharp citrus-herbal Lemongrass and Lime, earthy Gilli Mitti and gourmands like Vanilla Bean are families commonly chosen for noticeable melts. Screen each at 10% and 13% on Chunks — 13.80 g of oil, one 15 g tester — then warm them side by side. The oil that wins in your wax is your strong oil.
One line: strength is found in your warmer, not on a product page — screen candidates at two loads inside the ceiling and let the test decide.
Screen three families for ₹291.16: Cinnamon ₹106.20, Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹68.44 and Lemongrass and Lime ₹116.52. Each 15 g covers six melts at 10% and six at 13%, with 1.20 g spare. Add Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 500 g (₹299.00) for the 318.60 g of wax.

What "strong" means in a melt

Customers use one word for three different things. Separate them and half the confusion about "weak" melts disappears.

Cold strength is what the melt smells like in the pack, before it is warmed. It sells the melt at a market stall or in a gift box, and it is the easiest to judge — open the clamshell and sniff. Hot strength is what fills the room once the wax is liquid in a warmer; it decides whether the customer comes back. Staying power is how long a melt keeps scenting before it fades and needs replacing; it decides how good value the customer thinks your pack is. An oil can do well on one and poorly on another, so decide which one your customer is paying for before you test.

For most melt sellers, hot strength is the one that earns repeat orders, and it is also the one that depends most on things outside the bottle. That is why the rest of this page spends as long on the levers as on the oils. A strong oil in a melt that has not cured, or in a warmer that never fully melts it, will lose to an ordinary oil poured and cured properly.

Write the three words on your test sheet
Score cold, hot and staying power separately for every candidate. A single "strength" score hides the oil that smells wonderful in the pack and fades in twenty minutes — the most common source of disappointed melt customers.

What actually drives strength

Here are the six levers, what each one does, and whether CSI's published data can help you with it. Most of them are general candle-making practice, and they are phrased that way: things to test, not measured CSI results.

General melt-making practice · CSI data where it exists
The six levers behind a strong melt
Lever What it does Who controls it What CSI publishes
Load More oil can mean more scent — up to what the wax can hold You Ceilings: Chunks 13%, CSI 464 10%. No other wax's maximum is published here.
Full melt Scent releases from liquid wax; a half-melted melt under-performs Customer's warmer Nothing — warmers are not in CSI's price list
Cure time Soy commonly needs days for oil and wax to settle before judging You No cure times published; test your own
Oil formulation Different oils behave differently in the same wax Your choice of oil No throw measurements for any oil
Melt size vs dish Too little wax in a big dish thins fast; too much may not fully melt You (mould choice) Cavity weights not published — weigh one
Room Scent that fills a bedroom can vanish in an open-plan hall Customer Nothing

Two of these deserve a closer look. Wax choice sets the ceiling. CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax. Of the waxes it does list, only Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (13%) and CSI 464 (10%) have a published fragrance ceiling, and both are container waxes. If you plan to melt on Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Soy Pillar Wax, paraffin, beeswax or Soy Butter Wax, ask CSI on WhatsApp for the stated maximum before testing high loads.

Cure time is the lever most often skipped. In general practice, soy wax continues to settle for days after it sets, and oils often smell sharper or flatter in the first day than they will a week later. Judge a strength test the afternoon you poured it and you are measuring impatience. Pour, label, wait, then warm — the same number of days for every candidate.

The weak-melt diagnosis most makers get wrong. A melt smells faint, so the next batch gets more oil. The real cause is often that the melt was judged too early, or warmed in a dish too large for it, or poured into a wax that was already at its ceiling. Before you change the load, change one thing at a time: wait longer, try a smaller dish or a second melt, and check the load against the ceiling. Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts walks through the load side in full.

Nine oils worth testing first

This is a shortlist, not a leaderboard. Every reason given is a reason to test — none is a measurement.

The oils below are chosen for reasons we can state honestly: they belong to families commonly chosen by makers for noticeable melts (spice, mint, sharp citrus-herbal, earthy, rich gourmand), some sit near the top of CSI's best-selling sort, and all are in stock at their test size on the pull date. The last column costs the two-load screen described below — six illustrative 10 g melts at 10% and six at 13%, 13.80 g of oil — at the test pack's per-gram price.

Candidates for a strong melt · not ranked · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Worth testing first, and why
Oil Family Why it is worth a test Test pack Oil for the screen (13.80 g)
Cinnamon Warm spice Cinnamon is a family commonly chosen by makers for a room-filling melt; real 1 kg saving (10.0%) 15 g ₹106.20 ₹97.70
Spicy Cinnamon Hot spice A sharper cinnamon — useful as a head-to-head against plain Cinnamon 15 g ₹116.00 ₹106.72
Pumpkin Spice Festive spice Spice blends suit the October–November season; 1 kg saving 10.0% 15 g ₹106.20 ₹97.70
Apple Cinnamon Fruit + spice Near the top of CSI's best-selling sort; spice over fruit 15 g ₹93.22 ₹85.76
Eucalyptus Spearmint Mint / eucalyptus Mint and eucalyptus are commonly chosen for a sharp, noticeable melt; cheapest 15 g in the collection 15 g ₹68.44 ₹62.96
Lemongrass and Lime Sharp citrus-herbal Lemongrass is often chosen where plain citrus feels light; 1 kg saving 11.9% 15 g ₹116.52 ₹107.20
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) Earthy / patchouli Near the top of the best-selling sort; a deep base note, premium tier 15 g ₹140.00 ₹128.80
Vanilla Bean Gourmand vanilla Sweet gourmands are a common melt staple; premium tier 15 g ₹130.00 ₹119.60
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco Rich gourmand A layered coffee–vanilla–tobacco profile; no 15 g, so the 50 g is the tester 50 g ₹449.00 ₹123.92

Buying every test pack costs ₹1,325.58. You do not need all nine. Pick one or two per family that fit your range: if you sell festive melts, screen the three spice oils against each other; if you sell bathroom melts, screen Eucalyptus Spearmint against Lemongrass and Lime. Head-to-heads inside one family teach you more than one oil from everywhere.

Notice what is not on the list. Soft florals, light fruits and powdery profiles are lovely melts, and many sell well — the family shortlist includes several. They are simply not the families makers usually reach for when the brief is "make it fill the room". If one of them turns out to be your strongest in testing, believe the test, not the list.

1
Warm spice · real 1 kg saving
Cinnamon Fragrance Oil
Cinnamon belongs to a family commonly chosen for festive, room-filling melts, and it is one of the oils where scaling up saves money: the 1 kg is 10.0% cheaper per gram than the 100 g. Screen it against Spicy Cinnamon to see which spice profile your customers prefer.
Pack Price Per gram 10 g melts at 13%

2
Sharp citrus-herbal · 1 kg saving 11.9%
Lemongrass and Lime Fragrance Oil
Where plain citrus can feel light in a warmer, lemongrass is often chosen for a sharper edge. At ₹5.90/g at 100 g and ₹5.20/g at 1 kg, it has one of the larger kilo savings in the collection. Test it against Eucalyptus Spearmint for a fresh line.

Gourmand vanilla · premium tier
Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil
Sweet gourmands are a melt staple, and a vanilla is the obvious control in any strength test — if a new oil cannot beat your vanilla, it probably does not belong in a "strong" line. At ₹7.90/g it is premium, but in a 10 g melt at 13% that is ₹10.27 of oil.

The two-load strength screen

A full throw test — several warmers, timed sniff points, blind scorers — is worth doing once you have a shortlist, and Which Fragrance Oils Give the Strongest Throw in Wax Melts? sets it out properly. Before that, a quick screen tells you which candidates deserve the full test. It uses one 15 g tester per oil and two loads on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: a comfortable 10% and the 13% ceiling.

1
Weigh one cavity of your mouldOur screen assumes an illustrative 10 g melt. If your cavity holds more or less, scale the grams. At 13% in a 10 g melt: 1.3 g of oil and 8.7 g of wax.
2
Make two small batches per oilBatch A, six melts at 10%: 60 g total, 6.0 g oil + 54.0 g wax. Batch B, six melts at 13%: 60 g total, 7.8 g oil + 52.2 g wax. That is 13.80 g of oil from a 15 g tester, with 1.20 g to spare.
3
Label everything before it setsOil, load, date. Unlabelled melts from a screen are useless the moment they leave the mould.
4
Cure every batch the same number of daysIn general practice, a few days to a week for soy. Whatever you choose, keep it identical across candidates.
5
Score cold, then hotSniff each in its pack first. Then warm one melt of each at a time in the same warmer, in the same room, and note what you smell from the doorway after 15 and 45 minutes. Air the room between oils.
6
Keep two, drop the restCarry the two strongest oils — and the load at which each did best — into the full matrix. If 13% did not beat 10% for an oil, keep it at 10%: you have just saved 0.3 g of oil on every melt.

That last point is the quiet value of the screen. Makers often assume the ceiling is the strongest load. For some oils in some waxes, a lower load performs as well, and the only way to know is to pour both. Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts extends the screen into a full load ladder once you know which oil you are keeping.

What strength costs

Going from 10% to 13% on Chunks adds 0.3 g of oil and removes 0.3 g of wax from each 10 g melt. Because oil costs several times more than wax per gram, the melt gets dearer. Here is the difference for five candidates at their 100 g rates, per melt and per hundred melts:

10 g melt on Chunks (₹0.60/g) · oil at 100 g rate
The price of three extra points of load
Oil Oil ₹/g Melt at 10% Melt at 13% Extra per melt Extra per 100 melts
Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹3.54/g ₹8.93 ₹9.81 ₹0.88 ₹88.23
Cinnamon ₹5.90/g ₹11.29 ₹12.88 ₹1.59 ₹159.03
Lemongrass and Lime ₹5.90/g ₹11.29 ₹12.88 ₹1.59 ₹159.03
Vanilla Bean ₹7.90/g ₹13.29 ₹15.48 ₹2.19 ₹219.03
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) ₹8.96/g ₹14.35 ₹16.86 ₹2.51 ₹250.83

The extra is small per melt — from ₹0.88 for Eucalyptus Spearmint to ₹2.51 for Gilli Mitti — and it only earns its keep if the screen shows 13% genuinely beating 10% for that oil. If it does not, you are paying for oil the customer cannot smell. Across a thousand melts, Cinnamon at 13% instead of 10% costs ₹1,590.30 more in materials.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The easy sale is to tell you that strong melts need our dearest oils at the highest load. We have no data showing that premium oils throw harder in melts, and the load ceiling is a maximum, not a target. If Eucalyptus Spearmint at 10% wins your screen, it is the strongest melt you can make, and it is also one of the cheapest. Buy what wins, at the load that wins.
Festive melts sell on strength. With Diwali on 8 November 2026, a spice line needs to be screened, cured and packed by late October. Tell us which candidates you want to screen and your likely volumes, and we will quote oils, Chunks and melt containers together, with GST invoicing and IFRA documentation.

The CSI principle
Strong is a result, not a product attribute.
No oil is strong on its own. It is strong in a wax, at a load, after a cure, in a warmer, in a room. Control the parts you can, screen the oils you are curious about, and trust your own warmer over anyone's list — including ours.

If you are building a whole range rather than one strong line, start from Best Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts in India. If you need the exact grams per melt at every load, How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Wax Melts? has them. And if your strongest oil turns into your best seller, Buy 1 Kg Fragrance Oil for Commercial Wax Melt Making shows when its kilo is worth buying.

The strongest oil is the one that wins in your warmer. Everything else is a guess.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished melts. A page titled "strong fragrance oils" is an invitation to invent a ranking and sell the top of it. We have not measured throw for any oil, so we have not ranked them. The candidates here are chosen for stated reasons, and the screen is designed so your own results decide.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Every candidate is in stock at its test size on that date. Screen costs, per-melt costs and the 10%-to-13% differences are arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals. "Near the top of the best-selling sort" refers to the Fragrance Oils collection's best-selling order on the pull date — not sales data.

Statements about cure time, full melts, warmer dishes and room size are general candle-making practice to test, not CSI measurements. The 13% (Chunks) and 10% (CSI 464) ceilings are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits; no ceiling is published here for other waxes. For IFRA certificates, MSDS or help choosing candidates, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What is the strongest fragrance oil for wax melts?
There is no published measurement that ranks oils by melt strength, and we will not invent one. Families commonly chosen for noticeable melts include spice (Cinnamon, Spicy Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice), mint (Eucalyptus Spearmint), sharp citrus-herbal (Lemongrass and Lime) and rich gourmands (Vanilla Bean). Screen them in your own wax and warmer.
Why do my wax melts have no scent when melted?
Common causes, in general practice: judged before curing, a warmer that does not fully melt the wax, a melt too small for the dish, or a room too large. Check those before changing the oil or load. And check the load is within the wax's ceiling — 13% on Chunks, 10% on CSI 464.
How can I make my wax melts stronger?
Let them cure, test at two loads inside the ceiling (for example 10% and 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks), compare in the same warmer and room, and try a few oils from different families. Never exceed the wax's stated maximum.
Is 13% fragrance oil too much for wax melts?
On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 13% is the wax maker's stated maximum, so it is the limit, not a target. On CSI 464 the maximum is 10%, so 13% would be too much. For other waxes, confirm the maximum before going that high.
Do expensive fragrance oils make stronger wax melts?
Not as far as any published data shows. Price reflects the formula, not measured throw. A value oil like Eucalyptus Spearmint (₹3.54 a gram at 100 g) may win your screen. Test before assuming.
What wax holds the most fragrance for melts?
Of CSI's waxes, only two publish a ceiling: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%. Both are container waxes; CSI does not list a wax sold specifically as melt wax. For any other wax, ask CSI for its stated maximum.
