There is no single best fragrance oil for soy. There is a best oil for your wax, your price point and your customer, and you only find it by testing. This page gives you the short list, the prices and the test that settles it.
₹560.50
six 15 g testers, one from each main scent family, all near the top of CSI's best-selling sort · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What are the best fragrance oils for soy candles? The ones that pass a burn test in your soy wax at a load inside its ceiling. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so no honest supplier list can rank them for you. Start with one oil per family: Lavender, British Rose, Roasted Coffee, Blue Ocean, Sandalwood and Citrus Lemon. All sit near the top of CSI's best-selling sort. Six 15 g testers cost ₹560.50.

How much fragrance oil can soy wax hold? It depends on the wax. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13%. CSI 464 is rated up to 10%. Those are the wax maker's formulation limits, not legal limits. No ceiling is published here for Natural Soy Pearl, so check its product page. Most makers start at 8%.

How much does fragrance cost per soy candle? A 200 g candle at 8% takes 16 g of oil. At 100 g prices that is ₹48.00 with Citrus Lemon, ₹86.40 with Lavender and ₹147.04 with Santal Noir. See the priced shortlist.

Do expensive oils work better in soy? Not by default. Price tracks the formula, not performance in your wax. A ₹3.42-a-gram rose and a ₹7.90-a-gram vanilla do different jobs. Pick the tier your selling price can carry, then test inside it.
The short answer
Wax first: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: ₹599.00 / kg, up to 13%. CSI 464: ₹507.40 / kg, up to 10%. Natural Soy Pearl: ₹450.00 / kg (₹424.80 / kg from 5 kg), no ceiling in this data.
Tiers: Of 79 oils in stock at 100 g: 16 value (under ₹4.50/g), 21 core, 28 premium, 14 top tier (₹9.00/g and up). One 200 g candle at 8% carries ₹48.00 to ₹384.96 of oil.
Test: Six 15 g testers, two 85 g tins per oil (Chunks vs CSI 464 at 8%), 6.8 g oil per tin. Full test bench with tools ₹2,305.50, or ₹1,597.50 without scale and thermometer.

Tiers are our own grouping by price per gram at the 100 g size, the size most makers produce from. The bars count in-stock oils only. Price tier describes cost, not scent strength: CSI has not published throw measurements for any oil, so every tier needs its own test in your wax.
Straight answer
Which fragrance oils are best for soy candle making in India, and how should you choose them?
Choose the wax before the oil. CSI sells three soy waxes for containers: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (rated up to 13% fragrance), CSI 464 (up to 10%) and Natural Soy Pearl (no ceiling in this data). That ceiling sets how far you can push any oil. Then choose by family (floral, gourmand, woody, fresh, citrus, fruity) and by price tier. Of the 79 oils in stock at 100 g, 16 cost under ₹4.50 a gram and 14 cost ₹9.00 or more, so the oil can add anything from ₹48.00 to ₹384.96 to a 200 g candle at 8%. We have not published throw measurements, so no list, ours included, can call one oil "best" in soy. What works is a short test. Buy six 15 g testers, one per family, for ₹560.50. Pour each into two 85 g tins, one in Chunks and one in CSI 464, cure them, burn them side by side and keep the winners. The rest of this cluster goes deeper: strong oils for soy, hot throw and 6–8% loads.
One line: the best soy oil is the one that wins a side-by-side burn in your wax at a load you can afford — test six before you buy one kilo.
Start with the six-family tester set: Lavender ₹105.02, British Rose ₹94.40, Roasted Coffee ₹93.22, Blue Ocean ₹93.22, Sandalwood ₹93.22 and Citrus Lemon ₹81.42, all 15 g. That is ₹560.50 for 90 g of oil, enough for twelve 85 g test tins at 8% with 8.4 g to spare.

Start with the soy wax, not the oil

An oil does not have a load. A wax does. Pick the wax first, and its ceiling tells you how much room each oil gets.

Makers usually ask which oil to buy before they have settled the wax. That is backwards. The same oil at the same load can behave differently in two soy blends, because each blend binds and releases fragrance in its own way. More importantly for your costing, each wax has its own stated maximum fragrance load. It is the wax maker's formulation limit, the point beyond which the blend may not hold the oil well. In general candle-making practice, going past it is linked to oil seeping to the surface (sweating), poor burn and wasted fragrance. It is not a regulatory limit, and it is not a target.

The base cost adds an Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 at ₹5.90 and a White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 to the wax. Before any fragrance goes in, the three waxes are ₹27.42 apart per candle. Across a 100-candle run that is ₹2,741.60, which is less than the gap between two oils in the same family. That is the first lesson of soy costing. Wax choice matters for performance, finish and load room. It hardly matters for margin. Oil choice does.

The practical difference is headroom. Chunks give you up to 13%, so if an oil feels quiet at 8% you can test 10% and even 12% while staying inside the rating. CSI 464 stops at 10%, so a quiet oil there has two points of room at most before you need a different oil or a different wax. For Natural Soy Pearl we quote no ceiling in this series. Check the product page or ask us on WhatsApp for the wax maker's figure, and treat 6–10% only as a labelled starting range for tests, not as a specification. Fragrance oils for soy at 6–8% works through the load maths in full.

Coconut soy is a different cluster
CSI also sells Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 from ₹325.00 for 500 g. It is a coconut blend, and no fragrance ceiling is quoted for it in this data. If that is your wax, read Best Fragrance Oils for Coconut Soy Candles instead. Its recommendations are built for that blend.

Families and price tiers

Build a range like a menu: one of each course, at prices your customer will pay. Do not pick twelve vanillas because the first one sold.

A soy range needs coverage more than it needs depth. Customers choose a candle by scent family first (floral, gourmand, woody, fresh, citrus, fruity), and a range that covers four or five families gives every buyer something. Within each family, you then choose a price tier. The tier decides how much of the candle's cost is fragrance. The family decides who buys it.

We grouped the 79 oils in stock at 100 g on 24 September 2026 into four tiers by price per gram. These are our own working bands for costing, not a quality grade. Value oils cost under ₹4.50 a gram and include British Rose at ₹3.42, Roasted Coffee at ₹3.90 and Citrus Lemon at ₹3.00. Core oils cost ₹4.50 to ₹5.99, where Lavender, Sandalwood and Blue Ocean sit. Premium oils cost ₹6.00 to ₹8.99 and include Dark Vanilla, Raat Ki Rani and White Royal Oud. Top-tier oils, mostly perfume-inspired profiles, cost ₹9.00 a gram and up.

Read the table from right to left. If your finished soy candle retails at an entry price, a value or core oil keeps fragrance near a quarter of material cost. If it sells as a gift or luxury piece, the premium and top tiers are affordable and help justify the price. Premium fragrance oils for luxury soy candles covers that end of the range. Most first ranges do well with a mix: two value oils to anchor the price list, two or three core oils for the bestsellers, and one premium oil as the hero.

Families also behave differently in soy, and here we have to be careful. CSI has not published throw data for any oil, so nothing below is a measured result. In general practice, soy makers often find fresh, minty and citrus profiles open quickly in the room, gourmands and vanillas read warm and close, and woods and ouds read as depth rather than volume. Treat that as a reason to test each family on its own terms, not as a ranking. A woody oil that seems quiet on a cold sniff may be exactly right once the pool is full.

The range that is all one family. The first oil that sells gets reordered, then a second vanilla joins it, then a third. Six months later the range is five gourmands and one lavender, and every customer who does not want sweet walks past. Fix it at the planning stage: one oil per family in your first test, and a rule that no family holds more than a third of your range until the numbers say otherwise.

A priced shortlist of 14 oils

Here is a starting shortlist across seven families and all four tiers. Every oil is in stock at 100 g and, except where noted, at 15 g on the pull date. The last column is the fragrance cost of one 200 g soy candle at 8% (16 g), priced at the 100 g rate, which is the size most small soy brands produce from. This is a shortlist to test, not a ranking.

Shortlist · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026 · 16 g per candle at the 100 g rate

Fresh Strawberries Fruity Value ₹113.28 ₹3.78 ₹60.42
Santal Noir Woody, top tier Top ₹166.00 ₹9.19 ₹147.04

Six of these, Lavender, British Rose, Roasted Coffee, Blue Ocean, Sandalwood and Citrus Lemon, sit in the first seven places of the collection's best-selling sort. That tells you they are bought often. It does not tell you they perform best in soy, and we do not claim it. What it does tell you is that they are the safest first test: well understood profiles, fully stocked in every size, and priced in the bottom two tiers.

The other eight add range. Japanese Cherry Blossom and Raat Ki Rani give you a light floral and an Indian night-flower. Cinnamon Vanilla covers the festive season, with Diwali on 8 November. Dark Vanilla, White Royal Oud and Santal Noir are your premium heroes. Cucumber Green Tea and Fresh Strawberries give a clean and a fruity option at value prices. Check the size you will actually reorder
An oil that is in stock at 15 g but missing at 100 g or 1 kg is a poor choice for a hero scent. On the pull date, for example, the Vetiver 1 kg and the Chocolate Fudge 100 g were out of stock. Before a scent goes into your range, check its production size on the product page, and ask on WhatsApp for a restock date if it is missing. Buying oils for soy candles covers stock checks in detail.

The two-wax tester plan

Fifteen grams answers two questions at once: does this oil work in soy, and which of your soy waxes does it prefer?

The plan uses the Golden Aluminium Tin, which holds 85 g, as a small, cheap test vessel at ₹30.00 each. At 8%, an 85 g tin takes 6.8 g of oil and 78.2 g of wax. Two tins per oil use 13.6 g, leaving 1.4 g of each 15 g tester for a sniff strip or a top-up. Six oils fill twelve tins, one pack. Each wax needs 469.2 g, or 492.7 g with a 5% allowance for pour loss (a working assumption), so one 500 g bag of each wax covers it.

1
Weigh, never pour by eyeTare each tin, then weigh 78.2 g of melted wax and 6.8 g of oil. A 0.1 g error at this scale moves the load by about 0.1 percentage points, so use a proper scale such as the Candle Making Weighing Scale.
2
Label by oil and waxMark the base of every tin: oil, wax (Chunks or 464), load and pour date. Six oils in two waxes look identical once set. An unlabelled test is a wasted test.
3
Use the same wick and the same method in every tinPut an Eco Thin C1 wick in every tin, and add oil at the same temperature using the Pen Thermometer. Wick size for a given diameter is not published here, so if a tin tunnels or smokes, note it and ask us on WhatsApp. The comparison is only fair if everything except the oil and wax is constant.
4
Cure before judgingSoy candles are commonly left to cure before a hot-throw test. Many makers wait a week to two weeks. Pick one cure time and use it for every tin. Judging on day two tells you about day two, not about the candle your customer burns.
5
Burn in pairs, score on a sheetBurn the Chunks tin and the 464 tin of the same oil in the same room at the same time, then swap rooms. Score cold throw, throw at one hour, throw at three hours and any sweating, soot or tunnelling. Best hot throw in soy has a full scoring sheet.
6
Keep two or three, then scale the size, not the listWinners move to 100 g, which costs kilo rates per gram for most oils. Losers are dropped, not pushed to a higher load. Strong fragrance oils for soy explains when a higher load is worth testing and when it is not.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more oil if we told you our best-sellers are the best soy oils and you should buy them in 500 g. We cannot say that. We have not measured throw for any oil, in any wax, and the best-selling sort shows what people buy, not what works in your soy blend and jar. Spend ₹560.50 on six testers first. If four of them fail in your wax, you have saved the price of four 100 g bottles and learned something no supplier can tell you.

What each oil costs inside a soy candle

Once an oil passes the test, cost it into the finished candle. The table uses the default 200 g container candle at 8%: 16 g of oil, 184 g of wax, an Eco Thin C1 wick and a White Matte Glass Jar. The oil is priced at its 100 g rate. The same four oils run across all three soy waxes, so you can see how much, or how little, the wax changes the result.

200 g candle · 8% · 16 g oil at the 100 g rate · wick ₹5.90 + jar ₹70.80
Material cost per soy candle, by oil and wax
Oil Oil cost In Soy Wax Chunks In CSI 464 In Natural Soy Pearl (1 kg)
British Rose (₹3.42/g at 100 g) ₹54.75 ₹241.67 ₹224.81 ₹214.25
Lavender (₹5.40/g at 100 g) ₹86.40 ₹273.32 ₹256.46 ₹245.90
Dark Vanilla (₹7.90/g at 100 g) ₹126.40 ₹313.32 ₹296.46 ₹285.90
Santal Noir (₹9.19/g at 100 g) ₹147.04 ₹333.96 ₹317.10 ₹306.54

Material cost here means oil, wax, wick and jar only. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST. Moving from Chunks to Pearl saves ₹27.42 a candle. Moving from British Rose to Santal Noir adds ₹92.29. The oil is the lever. The wax is the setting you choose for burn quality and load room, and you should choose it for that reason.

Two more numbers for planning. Natural Soy Pearl drops to ₹2,124.00 for 5 kg, ₹424.80 a kilo and the only soy wax here with a bulk break (5.6%). That brings its wax cost to ₹78.16 a candle. Chunks and CSI 464 are priced flat per kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg, so buying 10 kg of either secures supply, not a lower rate. Bulk fragrance oils for soy manufacturers plans kilos against each wax's ceiling, and wholesale for soy candle businesses covers quotes beyond the listed packs.

Gourmands are commonly among the families soy makers test first for a warm room scent. Test it against Dark Vanilla to see whether your customers pay the difference.

Woods often read as depth rather than volume, so judge it at the three-hour mark, not on the cold sniff.

Without the scale and thermometer, the bench costs ₹1,597.50. That is roughly the price of three 100 g bottles of core-tier oil. The test protects you from the most expensive mistake in soy candle making: buying production quantities of an oil before you know how it burns in your wax. Leftover wax (up to about 30 g of each after the test) and eight spare wicks carry into your first production candles.

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. A soy candle poured in mid-October has its cure time before festive gifting starts. That leaves about three weeks to test, choose and order. Where soy makers go wrong with fragrance

Most weak soy candles are not weak oils. They are good oils in the wrong wax, at the wrong load, judged too early.

The first mistake is raising the load to fix a weak candle. If a candle is quiet, check the wick and melt pool first, then the cure time. A pool that never reaches the jar edge releases far less scent at any load. Going from 8% to 10% in a 200 g candle adds 4 g of oil, ₹21.60 with Lavender, to every candle, and it does nothing if the wick is the problem. In CSI 464 it also takes you to the wax's ceiling.

The second is testing on the day of pouring. Soy is commonly given time to cure, and a cold sniff on day one is not the product. The third is testing one oil at a time. A side-by-side comparison is the only fair one, because your nose adapts. The fourth is skipping the paperwork. If you sell to retailers, gifting clients or export, you will be asked for an MSDS and an IFRA certificate for each oil. Ask for them on WhatsApp when you order, not when the buyer asks. We never quote an individual oil's IFRA percentage or flash point on these pages, because those figures belong on the certificate, and the certificate is what you show your buyer.

The fifth is costing at tester prices. A 15 g Lavender costs ₹7.00 a gram. The 100 g costs ₹5.40. If you price your candle from the tester, you will overprice it. If you then produce from testers to "keep stock small", you will pay a premium on every candle. Test in 15 g, produce from 100 g, and only move to 1 kg when your reorders call for it. Buying 1 kg for soy sets out when a kilo pays and when it does not, and where to buy professional oils for soy is the supplier checklist.

The CSI principle
Wax sets the ceiling, family sets the buyer, tier sets the margin — the burn test sets the range.
Every other decision in soy candle fragrance follows from those four. Choose the wax for its load room and finish. Cover the families your customers shop by. Pick the tier your selling price can carry. Then let a side-by-side burn in that wax, at a load inside its rating, decide which oils stay.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page titled "best fragrance oils", the easy line for us would be a ranked list of our best-sellers. We have not measured throw for any oil in any wax, so this page gives you a method, a priced shortlist and a test instead of a ranking.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Tin and wick prices come from the 24–25 September pull, and the White Matte Glass Jar, scale and thermometer prices were verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are shown as out of stock. Per-gram and per-candle figures are arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check them.

Fragrance-load ceilings (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%, CSI 464 up to 10%) are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. No ceiling is quoted here for Natural Soy Pearl. The 200 g candle, 8% load, 85 g test tin, 5% pour allowance and cure guidance are working assumptions for comparison, not a recipe. Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil is best for soy wax candles?
There is no honest single answer, because CSI has not published throw measurements for any oil. Choose one oil per family, test each at 8% in your soy wax, cure, and burn side by side. Good starting points near the top of the best-selling sort are Lavender, British Rose, Roasted Coffee, Blue Ocean, Sandalwood and Citrus Lemon. Six 15 g testers cost ₹560.50.
How much fragrance oil should I add to soy wax?
Stay inside the wax's stated maximum: up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and up to 10% for CSI 464. Most makers start at 8%, which is 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle. For Natural Soy Pearl, check the product page for the maker's figure. Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles at 6–8% Fragrance Load has the maths for 6%, 7% and 8%.
Which soy wax holds the most fragrance oil?
Of the soy waxes with a published figure in this series, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks has the higher rating, up to 13%, against up to 10% for CSI 464. A higher ceiling gives you room to test. It does not mean you should run at the ceiling.
Can I use the same fragrance oils for soy and paraffin candles?
Usually the same candle fragrance oils are sold for both, but performance differs by wax, so test each oil in each wax. Best Fragrance Oils for Paraffin Candle Making covers paraffin, and I Want to Make Soy Candles, Wax Melts and Mould Candles — Can I Use the Same Fragrance Oils for All Three? covers using one set of oils across candle types.
How much fragrance oil do I need for 10 soy candles?
At 200 g and 8%, 160 g of oil and 1,840 g of wax, plus 3–5% for pour loss as a working assumption. That is two 100 g bottles of one oil, which leaves 40 g, enough to cover the pour allowance with room to spare. For Lavender the 50 g and 100 g cost the same ₹5.40 a gram, so buy whichever combination gets you past 168 g.
Do you have a soy candle fragrance sample pack?
No. CSI does not sell a fragrance sample pack or discovery set. You build your own from the 15 g sizes, which 51 oils offer in stock, or 50 g where an oil starts there. We are happy to help you choose on WhatsApp.
