CSI Collection Buying · Masculine in Soy
Woods, resins and patchouli are soy-friendly because they live in the base. They also take longer to show what they can do. Here are five heavy CSI oils, their stated loads, the ceiling that governs, and a 14-day test.
10%
the governing load for all five oils in CSI 464, CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Do woody and resinous oils work in soy wax? Yes, and they are among the easier families for soy, because most of their scent sits in the base notes rather than in the volatile top. What they need is patience: a longer cure before you judge them, and a test that compares loads rather than assuming more is better.

What is the maximum load? The lower of two numbers: the wax maker's ceiling (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%) and the oil page's stated candle maximum. All five oils on this page stop at 10%, so 10% is your limit in every one of those waxes.

How long should I cure a woody soy candle? None of the five oil pages states a cure. Common practice is at least 48–72 hours, longer for soy. For heavy bases we cold-sniff at day 3, burn at day 7 and burn again at day 14 before deciding.

What should I buy to test? 50 g each of Sandalwood, Vetiver, Palo Santo, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud (₹1,694.30). Each 50 g covers three loads in CSI 464 plus one comparison candle in CSI 468.
The short answer
The oils: Sandalwood (creamy wood), Vetiver (smoky root), Palo Santo (resinous wood with incense), Gilli Mitti (earthy patchouli) and Dark Vanilla Oud (resin and amber).
The ceiling: 10% for all five in CSI 464, CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: the oil pages' maximum is the lower figure, so the chunks' 13% is headroom you cannot use.
The cure: judge at day 7 and day 14, not day 2. Vetiver especially.
The test: 6%, 8% and 10% in CSI 464, plus 8% in CSI 468, per oil. 20 candles, ₹5,979.10 all in.
Heavy oils in soy: judge them on a 14-day clock Our test schedule for woods, resins, oud and patchouli in soy. None of the five oil pages states a cure. Day 0 Day 3 Day 7 Day 14 decision window for heavy bases POUR Same wax, same temperatures, same day for all loads. Label oil, load, wax, wick. COLD SNIFF Lids off, blind. Tops show early; woods and resin may still be quiet. Do not decide yet. FIRST BURN 2–3 hours, one at a time. Doorway at 30 and 60 min. Note melt pool, soot, base at end. SECOND BURN Repeat day-7 test on the same jars. Compare notes. Keep the lowest load that passes. When each family is fairly judged (editorial judgement) Palo Santo, Dark Vanilla Oud: top notes present; day 7 is fair Sandalwood, Gilli Mitti: creamy / earthy bases; day 7, confirm day 14 Vetiver: smoky root; judge at day 14, not before Common practice: cure at least 48–72 hours, longer for soy. Temperatures: follow each wax page (CSI 464 melt and pour 80–90°C; CSI 468 pour 58–60°C).
A 14-day schedule for judging heavy masculine oils in soy. The dates are our test method, not an oil-page instruction: none of the five oil pages states a cure time. The point is to avoid judging a vetiver or sandalwood candle on the day its top notes are loudest and its base has not settled.
Straight answer
Which heavy masculine fragrance oils work in soy wax, what load can I use, and how do I test them properly?
Sandalwood, Vetiver, Palo Santo, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud all state a candle load of up to 10% on their CSI pages, and three of them (Sandalwood, Vetiver, Palo Santo) say so specifically for soy, with 6% for paraffin. That makes 10% your ceiling in any of CSI's container soy waxes, including the ones rated to 13%. Pour each oil at 6%, 8% and 10% in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, add one 8% candle in Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 for comparison, cure them all together, and judge at day 7 and again at day 14. Heavy woods and resins often seem quiet at day 2 or 3; deciding then is an easy way to overdose them. Keep the lowest load that passes both burns.
One line: in soy, heavy masculine oils reward time more than load, so buy 50 g, pour three loads, and wait two weeks before you decide.
The wax these oils were matched to. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 per kilogram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike (₹0.51/g at 10 kg), melt and pour 80–90°C, up to 10% load, exactly the top of all five oils' stated ranges.

How woody and resinous oils behave in soy

Soy is kind to base notes and hard on top notes. Masculine oils are mostly base.

A fragrance oil is a blend of materials that evaporate at different speeds. The fast ones (citrus, mint, light green notes) give the first impression and fade first; the slow ones (woods, resins, musks, patchouli, vanilla, oud accords) arrive later and stay. Soy wax is a softer, denser wax than paraffin, and in our experience and the common experience of soy makers, it tends to hold back a little of the brightness while giving slow base notes time to come through on a melt pool. That is judgement, not measurement: CSI has no throw data for these oils. But it explains why the woody and resinous families are forgiving in soy and why citrus-led masculine oils can disappoint.

What that means for the five oils here

Look at where each page puts the weight. Sandalwood is described as "single-note", "warm, creamy", "smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone": all base. Vetiver is "smoky, woody, and grounding with subtle green and sweet undertones": base with a green edge. Palo Santo is "Earthy palo santo with soft citrus, warm amber, and a touch of incense": one light top note over a resinous body. Gilli Mitti lists "fresh rain, soft soil, natural patchouli, damp woods, and light musk": patchouli and woods doing most of the work. Dark Vanilla Oud opens "with vanilla and spicy cardamom", deepens "into exotic oud and deep amber" and settles "into warm musk and woody cedar": the most complete pyramid of the five, and the only one with a clear spiced top.

Throw in soy: what to expect, and what not to promise

Heavy oils in soy usually give a steady, close-to-medium throw that builds over the burn rather than a burst in the first ten minutes. That suits a study, a bedroom or a gift candle better than a big open-plan room. If a customer wants a candle that fills a hall, the question moves from soy behaviour to oil structure, load and wick, which is the ground covered in Strong Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candles. On this page we stay with soy: how to get these oils to perform at a load you can defend, and how to tell when they have.

Argued against our own interest: soy is not the "strongest" wax for any fragrance family, and we will not tell you it is. If maximum throw at minimum cost is the only goal, the oil page wording gives you a hint: Sandalwood, Vetiver and Palo Santo state up to 10% for soy and up to 6% for paraffin. Our reading of those figures, not a page statement, is that soy asks for more oil to do the same job. People choose soy for how it burns, how it looks and what their customers ask for, and that is a sound reason to choose it. Frosting and surface finish are cosmetic questions and do not change these oils' scent, so we leave them aside here.

Two ceilings: the wax and the oil

A 13% wax does not make a 10% oil into a 13% oil.

Every candle has two maximum loads: the one the wax maker states for the wax, and the one the oil page states for candles. The lower of the two governs. Both are formulation limits, not regulatory limits, and neither is a target. For these five oils the oil figure is 10%, so it is the governing figure in every wax CSI rates for container candles.

CSI soy waxes against the five oils · 24 September 2026
Which ceiling governs, and what the wax costs per gram at its largest size
Wax Wax page ceiling Oil pages' candle maximum Governing load Per gram (largest size)
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%; melt and pour 80–90°C 10% 10% ₹0.51 (10 kg ₹5,074.00)
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 up to 13%; pour 58–60°C 10% 10% ₹0.64 (10 kg ₹6,370.00)
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13% 10% 10% ₹0.60 (10 kg ₹5,999.00)
Eco Soy CSI 400 not stated on the page 10% unknown: ask first ₹0.40 (5 kg ₹1,996.00)
Natural Soy Pearl Wax not stated on the page 10% unknown: ask first ₹0.42 (10 kg ₹4,248.00)

CSI 464's stated ceiling and these oils' stated maximum are the same number, which makes it the simplest wax to work in: there is only one limit to remember. CSI 468 and the chunks have headroom these oils cannot use, so do not pay for them on that basis; choose them for how they pour and look. Eco Soy CSI 400 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax are cheaper per gram, but their pages state no fragrance ceiling. Ask on WhatsApp before you rely on either at 10%.

Paraffin and blends
Three of the five pages give a separate paraffin figure: "up to 6%" for Sandalwood, Vetiver and Palo Santo. If you run a soy-paraffin blend, the pages do not say which figure applies; in our judgement, start from the paraffin figure and work up only if the burn test is clean.

Five heavy oils for soy, with stated loads

Chosen for the soy question, not as a range shortlist (the masculine hub, Buy Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Making, does that job). All five state a candle load; all five are heavy in the base; all five are in stock in the 50 g you need for testing on 24 September 2026. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8%.

1
creamy wood · single note · the easy one
Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
The page states "Recommended load up to 10% for soy, up to 6% for paraffin" and describes a "warm, creamy, luxurious single-note sandalwood fragrance oil with a smooth woody aroma and subtle earthy undertone". With no top note to lose, it is, in our judgement, the most predictable of the five in soy, and the best one to learn the cure schedule on. Limitation: its creaminess reads soft; in soy at 6% it can come across as faint in a large room. That is a load question for your burn test, not a reason to jump to 10%.

Oil per candle at 1 kg price: ₹45.24 at 6%, ₹60.32 at 8%, ₹75.40 at 10%. Buy Sandalwood
2
smoky root · late developer
Vetiver Fragrance Oil
"Smoky, woody, and grounding with subtle green and sweet undertones", described on the page as "IFRA-certified" (that is its wording; documents on request) and stated at "Up to 10% for soy wax candles ... Up to 6% for paraffin wax candles". In our experience vetiver is the family most often misjudged in soy: quiet at day 3, noticeably fuller by day 14. Limitation: the 1 kg is out of stock on 24 September 2026, and the 15 g is 77% dearer per gram than the 50 g. If it passes, 500 g is your bulk size for now; ask about the 1 kg.

3
resinous wood · incense edge
Palo Santo Fragrance Oil
"Earthy palo santo with soft citrus, warm amber, and a touch of incense", stated at "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". The soft citrus top is the lightest element and the first to fade; the resin and amber carry the burn. It is the oil for a "study" or "evening" candle that should smell like wood smoke without being smoky. Limitation: palo santo is associated with ritual and incense, which some customers love and some find too temple-like for a men's candle. Blind-test it.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹106.20 ₹7.08 1
50 gm ₹300.90 ₹6.02 4
100 gm ₹601.80 ₹6.02 8

Flat ₹6.02/g from 50 g to 1 kg: ₹72.22 of oil per 8% candle at any of those sizes. Buy Palo Santo
4
earthy patchouli · petrichor
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli)
The page states "The recommended fragrance load is 6-10% for candles", calls it "IFRA-certified" and describes "fresh rain, soft soil, natural patchouli, damp woods, and light musk. Evokes petrichor - the scent of rain on dry earth." It is earthy rather than classically masculine, but patchouli and damp woods make it a natural monsoon candle for a men's range. A verified 5-star buyer called the "Gilli Mitti and Pumpkin Spice scents" "amazing and authentic". Limitation: it is priced flat at ₹8.96 per gram from 50 g to 1 kg, the dearest of the five at every size from 50 g up, so every extra percentage point costs: 10% instead of 8% adds ₹26.88 of oil per candle.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹140.00 ₹9.33 1
50 gm ₹448.00 ₹8.96 4
100 gm ₹896.00 ₹8.96 8

1 kg ₹8,960.00 ₹8.96 83
Oil per 8% candle at any size from 50 g: ₹107.52. Buy Gilli Mitti
5
resin and amber oud · the sweet heavy
Dark Vanilla Oud
"Opening with vanilla and spicy cardamom, deepening into exotic oud and deep amber, and settling into warm musk and woody cedar". The page states "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles" and uses the words "IFRA-certified". Of the five it has the most top and the most sweetness, so in soy it will show earlier than the others: fair to judge at day 7. Limitation: vanilla can darken and read sweeter at higher loads; if 10% smells like dessert, 8% is your answer. The 1 kg is 11.1% cheaper per gram than the 50 g, and the 500 g costs the same per gram as the 1 kg.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹105.02 ₹7.00 1
50 gm ₹320.00 ₹6.40 4

500 gm ₹2,845.00 ₹5.69 41
1 kg ₹5,691.00 ₹5.69 83

Cure time: why heavy bases need longer

A two-day-old vetiver candle tells you about day two. It does not tell you what you are selling.

Cure is the time between pouring and the candle smelling the way it will for its customer. In soy it is commonly given as at least 48–72 hours, with longer being common practice. None of these five oil pages states a cure time (among CSI's oil pages, only Bergamot Amber and Apple Cinnamon state one, 48–72 hours, and neither is in this test), so what follows is judgement from how these families usually behave.

Why the heavy families are slower

Woods, resins and patchouli are the slowest-moving parts of a blend, in the bottle and on a melt pool. In a fresh candle, whatever light elements the oil has (Palo Santo's "soft citrus", Dark Vanilla Oud's "spicy cardamom", Vetiver's "subtle green") are more noticeable at first; the base takes longer to settle into balance with them. If you judge too early you tend to see a weak base and raise the load, then find at day 14 that the 10% candle is heavy and the 8% one was right.

A cure schedule that avoids that mistake

Cure checkpoints for heavy oils in soy · editorial judgement
What to check at each point, and what not to conclude
Day Check Safe conclusion Unsafe conclusion
0 Pour all loads same day, same temperatures None yet "It smells strong in the jug"
3 Blind cold sniff, lids off Obvious dislikes can go "Too weak, raise the load"
7 First burn, 2–3 hours, one at a time Ranking of loads for Palo Santo and Dark Vanilla Oud Final verdict on Vetiver
14 Second burn on the same jars Lowest passing load for all five None: this is the decision point
Keep the day-3 notes
Write down what you smelled at day 3 even though you will not act on it. The difference between day 3 and day 14 on your own notes is the best evidence you will have for how long to hold stock before selling. If your Sandalwood barely changes but your Vetiver changes a lot, cure them differently in production.

The 20-candle soy test plan

Four candles per oil: 6%, 8% and 10% in CSI 464, and 8% in CSI 468 as a wax comparison. That uses 48 g of each 50 g bottle (9 + 12 + 15 + 12). You need a scale reading to 1 g and a thermometer; the basket below includes one.

1
Weigh load as a share of total weightFor a 150 g candle: 6% is 9 g oil + 141 g wax; 8% is 12 g + 138 g; 10% is 15 g + 135 g. Weigh oil directly into the pouring jug on the scale. Volume measures are not accurate enough for heavy, viscous oils.
2
Follow each wax page's temperatures exactlyCSI 464: melt and pour 80–90°C, as stated on its page. CSI 468: pour 58–60°C, as stated on its page. Use the pen thermometer and keep every CSI 464 candle at the same temperature, every CSI 468 candle at the same temperature.
3
Stir longer than feels necessaryHeavy oils are dense; stir gently but thoroughly so the oil is evenly through the wax before pouring. Uneven mixing shows up as a candle that throws unevenly, and you will blame the oil.
4
Use the same wick across each oil's candlesStart with Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) in all 20. A C1 is a starting point, not a prescription; if the 8% melt pool has not reached the edge after two to three hours, retest with a Thick (C2). Changing wick and load at the same time teaches you nothing.
5
Cure all 20 together, away from sunLids on, room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Follow the day 3 / 7 / 14 schedule above.
6
Burn one candle per sessionSame room, door closed, two to three hours. Record doorway scent at 30 and 60 minutes, melt pool at 2 hours, soot or mushrooming, and whether the base is still noticeable 15 minutes after blow-out.
7
Decide at day 14: lowest passing load, then the waxFor each oil, keep the lowest load that passed both burns. Then compare the CSI 464 and CSI 468 candles at 8%: if you cannot tell them apart, choose the wax on price and handling. Launch and reorder planning sits in I Want a Masculine Candle Collection — Which Woody, Oud, Amber and Fresh Fragrance Oils Should I Sample?.

What the wax choice costs per candle

Between soy waxes, the rupees per candle are small. The load decision is bigger.

Wax in one 150 g candle at 8% (138 g), at each wax's 10 kg price: ₹70.02 in CSI 464, ₹82.79 in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, ₹87.91 in CSI 468. The coconut-soy blend costs ₹17.88 more per candle than CSI 464, and is 26% dearer per gram at 10 kg.

Now compare that with load. On Sandalwood at the 1 kg price, going from 8% to 10% adds ₹15.08 of oil per candle; on Gilli Mitti it adds ₹26.88. The load you choose moves the cost by about as much as the wax you choose, or more, and the day-14 test is what tells you whether that extra oil is doing anything.

Sandalwood in CSI 468 ₹60.32 ₹87.91 ₹94.40 + ₹5.90 ₹248.53
Gilli Mitti in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹107.52 ₹82.79 ₹94.40 + ₹5.90 ₹290.61

We sell all three waxes. For these five oils, the 13% ceiling of CSI 468 and the chunks is not a reason to buy them; choose them if you prefer how they pour, set and look in your jars. The per-gram wholesale picture for masculine oils, including where 1 kg does not save, is in Masculine Candle Fragrance Oils Wholesale in India.

Mistake: raising the load to fix a weak day-3 candle. Fix: wait for day 7 and day 14 first. If the 10% candle is still weak at day 14, the next thing to change is the wick or the oil, not a load above the page maximum. Going past 10% on these oils puts you outside what their pages state, whatever the wax allows.
Pouring for winter? Christmas is 25 December 2026, and winter (roughly December to February, colder in North India) is the natural season for heavy woody candles. Work back from a two-week cure: finish testing by late October, pour production by the end of November. Ask on WhatsApp for 500 g oil and 10 kg CSI 464 with a GST invoice.

The CSI principle
Give heavy oils time before you give them more load.
In soy, a woody base that seems weak at day three is often right at day fourteen. The cheapest fix for a quiet candle is a calendar, not a kilogram.
"Judge a vetiver candle when your customer will, two weeks after it was poured, not the morning after."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, waxes, jars, wicks and thermometer named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you not to buy our 13% waxes for extra load these oils cannot use, and not to push past the oil page's maximum.

Every price and per-gram figure was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes (Vetiver 1 kg; Sacred Sandal Ember 100 g and 1 kg) are flagged as out of stock on that date. Candle loads, notes and IFRA wording are quoted from each product page, and wax ceilings and temperatures from each wax page; where a page states no ceiling or cure, we say so.

How families behave in soy, the 14-day schedule and the test method are our judgement; CSI has no throw measurements for these oils. Bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documents are available on request on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Test 6%, 8% and 10% of total candle weight. For a 150 g candle that is 9 g, 12 g and 15 g of oil. For Sandalwood, Vetiver, Palo Santo, Gilli Mitti and Dark Vanilla Oud, the pages' maximum is 10%, which is also CSI 464's ceiling.
How long to cure a soy candle with sandalwood or vetiver fragrance?
Neither CSI page states a cure. At least 48–72 hours is common practice, longer for soy. We judge heavy woods at day 7 and again at day 14, and vetiver not before day 14.
Can I use 13% fragrance in coconut soy wax?
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 states up to 13%, but the oil page's maximum also applies and the lower figure governs. For the five oils here that is 10%. Only go higher with an oil whose own page states a higher candle load.
Why does my woody soy candle smell weak?
Often because it was judged too early, or the wick is not reaching a full melt pool. Wait for day 7 and day 14, check the melt pool at two hours, and change one thing at a time. Stronger-structured oils and wick adjustment are covered in the strong masculine guide.
Which soy wax is best for masculine candles?
For oils capped at 10%, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is the simplest: its ceiling matches the oil pages and it costs ₹0.51/g at 10 kg. CSI 468 costs ₹17.88 more per 8% candle; test both at 8% and pick on handling and finish.
Is vetiver fragrance oil available in 1 kg?
Not on 24 September 2026: Vetiver 1 kg is out of stock. The 500 g (₹2,900.00, ₹5.80/g) is in stock. Ask on WhatsApp for a restock date.

About this guide: the soy wax page of CSI's masculine cluster. It covers how heavy woody and resinous oils behave in soy, the two-ceilings rule, cure timing and a 20-candle test. It does not cover maximising throw or wick sizing for dense oils, which belong to the strong masculine guide.

Non-price figures: candle maths assume a 150 g candle with load as a percentage of total weight (8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax); candle counts are floor(grams ÷ 12). Wax ceilings and temperatures as stated on the wax pages: CSI 464 melt and pour 80–90°C, up to 10%; CSI 468 pour 58–60°C, up to 13%; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%; Eco Soy CSI 400 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax state no ceiling. Ceilings are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Oil loads, notes and IFRA wording are quoted from product pages.
