Candle fragrance oil in India is sold by weight, from a 15 g tester to a 1 kg production pack. The bottle price tells you almost nothing on its own. This page turns every CSI pack into a price per gram and then into a price per candle, which is the only number a candle business can set a selling price against.
₹95.98
fragrance oil inside one 200 g candle at an 8% load, at the median 1 kg price of ₹5,999.00 · range ₹45.31 to ₹384.90 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much does candle fragrance oil cost in India? At CSI, ₹68.44 for the cheapest 15 g and ₹2,832.00 for the cheapest 1 kg. The median 100 g is ₹629.00 and the median 1 kg is ₹5,999.00. Inspired-by perfume profiles sit at the top, with one 1 kg at ₹24,056.00.

What is the price per gram? Between ₹2.83 and ₹24.06 a gram at 1 kg. The median oil works out at about ₹6.00 a gram at 1 kg and ₹6.29 at 100 g.

How much fragrance oil goes into one candle, and what does it cost? A 200 g candle at an 8% load holds 16 g of oil. At the median price that is ₹95.98 of fragrance per candle. The cheapest oil costs ₹45.31 per candle and the dearest ₹384.90. See price per candle.

Is a bigger pack cheaper? Mostly not above 100 g. For 52 of the 91 oils that list both sizes, 1 kg costs within 1% of the 100 g per gram. The real saving is moving up from 15 g, which carries a median 23.1% premium. Details in price per gram.
The short answer
Pack prices: 15 g ₹68.44–₹199.00 · 50 g ₹170.00–₹1,203.00 · 100 g ₹300.00–₹2,406.00 · 1 kg ₹2,832.00–₹24,056.00, all in-stock sizes.
Per candle: 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8%: ₹45.31 (cheapest) · ₹95.98 (median) · ₹384.90 (dearest). Full material cost ₹232.23–₹571.81 with wax, wick and jar.
Price breaks: The reliable step is 15 g → 50 g/100 g. Above that, most oils are priced flat per gram, and 24 oils show a 1 kg saving of 5% or more. Wholesale pricing covers quotes beyond the listed packs.

The CSI price ladder — median price per gram by pack size, and what it costs inside one 200 g candle ₹7.08/g ₹6.84/g ₹6.29/g ₹5.56/g ₹6.00/g 15 g · median ₹106.20 50 g · median ₹342.20 100 g · median ₹629.00 500 g · median ₹2,781.50 1 kg · median ₹5,999.00 51 oils in stock 81 oils in stock 79 oils in stock 64 oils in stock 73 oils in stock Taller bar = dearer per gram. The only reliable step is 15 g → 50/100 g.
Medians are taken across whichever oils are in stock at each size, so the bars are not one oil moving up the ladder. The pattern holds oil by oil, though: 15 g is the only size that reliably costs more per gram. From 50 g upward the line is almost flat, and the small dip at 500 g reflects which oils offer that size rather than a discount.
Straight answer
How much does candle fragrance oil cost in India, and how should a candle maker read the price?
At CSI the Fragrance Oils collection lists 93 oils, and 86 have at least one size in stock. A 15 g tester costs ₹68.44 to ₹199.00, a 100 g ₹300.00 to ₹2,406.00 and a 1 kg ₹2,832.00 to ₹24,056.00. The median 1 kg is ₹5,999.00. The bottle price is not the number to plan with, though. Convert it to price per gram (₹2.83 to ₹24.06 at 1 kg), then to price per candle. A 200 g container candle at an 8% load holds 16 g of oil, so the median oil puts ₹95.98 of fragrance into each candle, the cheapest ₹45.31 and the dearest ₹384.90. That spread, not the headline bottle price, decides your margin. Most makers also assume the kilo is the cheap way to buy. On the listed catalogue it usually is not: 52 of 91 oils cost the same per gram at 1 kg as at 100 g, and the reliable saving is moving up from the 15 g tester. So test in 15 g, produce from 100 g or 1 kg depending on volume, and use the wholesale route when you need more than the listed packs.
One line: work out the fragrance cost per candle first — ₹45 or ₹385 matters more than whether a bottle costs ₹300 or ₹3,000.
The cheapest way to find out which price tier your brand needs is three 15 g testers from three tiers: British Rose at ₹94.40, Lavender at ₹105.02 and Dark Vanilla at ₹130.00. That is ₹329.42 for 45 g, enough for three 200 g test candles at 7.5% or nine 50 g test pots at 10%.

The price ladder, 15 g to 1 kg

Fragrance oil is priced like a spice, not like a solvent. You pay for the formula, and the bottle size mostly changes how many candles you can make before reordering.

CSI lists oils in up to five sizes: 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg. Not every oil comes in every size. Fifty-one oils offer an in-stock 15 g. Newer and inspired-by oils often start at 50 g or 100 g, and a few, like Smoked Rose Royale and Sultan's Smoke, start at 100 g. The table below prices every size across the in-stock catalogue so you can see the whole range before looking at any single oil.

In-stock sizes only · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
What each pack size costs across the collection
Pack Oils in stock Cheapest Median Dearest Median ₹/g
15 g 51 ₹68.44 — Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹106.20 ₹199.00 — Tangerine ₹7.08
50 g 81 ₹170.00 — Citrus Lemon ₹342.20 ₹1,203.00 — Club De Nuit Intense Inspired ₹6.84
100 g 79 ₹300.00 — Citrus Lemon ₹629.00 ₹2,406.00 — Club De Nuit Intense Inspired ₹6.29
500 g 64 ₹1,420.00 — Citrus Lemon ₹2,781.50 ₹5,999.00 — Tangerine ₹5.56
1 kg 73 ₹2,832.00 — Citrus Lemon ₹5,999.00 ₹24,056.00 — Club De Nuit Intense Inspired ₹6.00

Two things stand out. The range inside each size is wide: roughly eightfold at 1 kg, from ₹2,832.00 to ₹24,056.00. The median per gram barely moves once you pass 15 g, from ₹6.84 at 50 g to ₹6.00 at 1 kg. Which oil you choose has far more effect on price than which pack size you choose. For the per-kilo view, including where each oil sits against the median, go to candle fragrance oil price per kg in India.

Read the stock line before you plan
Seven oils in the collection have no size in stock on the pull date, and several others are missing a size (for example, the Vetiver 1 kg and the Chocolate Fudge 100 g). A price you cannot buy is not a price. Check the product page before you build a costing around an oil, and ask on WhatsApp for a restock date if you need that specific scent.

Price per gram — where the break really is

Dividing each pack price by its weight gives a price per gram, and that number exposes where the ladder bends. Here are three oils from three price tiers, each available in all five sizes:

Price per gram, same oil, every size
Three tiers, five sizes — the bend is at the bottom
Oil 15 g 50 g 100 g 500 g 1 kg
British Rose ₹6.29/g ₹4.25/g ₹3.42/g ₹3.19/g ₹3.07/g
Lavender ₹7.00/g ₹5.40/g ₹5.40/g ₹5.24/g ₹5.22/g
Dark Vanilla ₹8.67/g ₹8.20/g ₹7.90/g ₹7.68/g ₹7.65/g

Across the catalogue the pattern is consistent. Of the 55 oils that list both a 15 g and a 100 g, the 15 g carries a median 23.1% premium per gram. Between 50 g and 100 g the median difference is zero, and 52 of 86 oils sit within 1%. Between 100 g and 1 kg, 52 of 91 oils are within 1%, and only 24 show a 1 kg saving of 5% or more. The biggest of those is Citronella at 62.3%, followed by Honeydew Melon at 22.0% and Mango Coconut at 20.7%. A few oils run the other way: the 1 kg of Love Spell costs fractionally more per gram than its 100 g.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more 1 kg packs if we told you the kilo is always the smart buy. On our own listed prices it usually is not. For most oils, ten 100 g bottles cost within a rupee or two of one 1 kg. The kilo buys you stock security and fewer reorders, which matters once a scent is a proven seller. It does not buy a lower rate. If an oil is still unproven, the 100 g is the cheaper risk. Buy the kilo when you know you will use it, not to save money you will not save.
The mistake that looks like thrift. Buying everything in 15 g to "keep costs down" is the most expensive way to buy fragrance by the gram. At 16 g a candle, Lavender poured from 15 g testers costs ₹112.02 of oil per candle, against ₹86.40 from the 100 g. That is ₹25.62 more on every candle. Use 15 g to test. Once a scent passes, move it to 100 g at least. Where to Buy Fragrance Oils in Small Quantities for a Candle Business covers the small-quantity route in full.

Price per candle

Customers never see your cost per gram. They see a candle and a price tag, so that is the unit to cost in.

The working example throughout this cluster is a 200 g container candle at an 8% fragrance load: 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. Wax is Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599.00 a kilo (₹110.22 for 184 g). The wick is an Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 at ₹5.90 and the jar a White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80. That gives a fixed base of ₹186.92 before any fragrance. The oil is then added on top, priced at its 1 kg rate:

200 g candle · 8% load · 16 g oil · oil priced at its 1 kg rate
What the fragrance adds to one candle
Oil (1 kg price) ₹/g Oil per candle Material cost per candle Oil's share
Citrus Lemon (₹2,832.00) ₹2.83 ₹45.31 ₹232.23 19.5%
British Rose (₹3,068.00) ₹3.07 ₹49.09 ₹236.00 20.8%
Lavender (₹5,221.00) ₹5.22 ₹83.54 ₹270.45 30.9%
Median in-stock 1 kg (₹5,999.00) ₹6.00 ₹95.98 ₹282.90 33.9%
Dark Vanilla (₹7,646.00) ₹7.65 ₹122.34 ₹309.25 39.6%
Club De Nuit Intense Inspired (₹24,056.00) ₹24.06 ₹384.90 ₹571.81 67.3%

Material cost here means oil, wax, wick and jar only. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST, which you add in your own costing. The point of the table is the last column. With a value oil, fragrance is about a fifth of what the candle costs to make. With the median oil it is about a third, and with a designer-inspired oil it is two-thirds. Two candles that look identical on the shelf can have material costs ₹339.58 apart, and that gap is almost entirely fragrance.

Load sensitivity · same 200 g candle, median ₹5,999.00 / kg oil
What 6%, 8% and 10% do to the cost
Load Oil Wax Oil cost Material cost per candle
6% 12 g 188 g ₹71.99 ₹261.30
8% 16 g 184 g ₹95.98 ₹282.90
10% 20 g 180 g ₹119.98 ₹304.50

Each two-point step in load moves the median candle by about ₹21.60. Load is a performance decision before it is a cost decision. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%. Those are the wax maker's stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits, and more oil than the candle can burn cleanly does not buy more scent. For the quantity side of the same maths — how many kilos a production run needs — see How to Calculate Bulk Fragrance Oil Requirements for Candle Manufacturing.

Why one oil costs eight times another

Every fragrance oil is a formula: a blend of aroma materials in a carrier. Some profiles are cheap to build and some are not, and the catalogue shows it clearly. Sorting the 73 oils in stock at 1 kg into price bands gives this:

In-stock 1 kg packs · 73 oils · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026

₹3.50–₹5.00 21 Fresh Strawberries ₹3,540.00 · Orchard Pear ₹3,738.00 · Roasted Coffee ₹3,738.00 · Jasmine ₹3,923.00 · Mango Coconut ₹3,964.00

Fresh, fruity and simple citrus profiles cluster at the bottom. Rich gourmands, resinous woods and Indian florals sit in the middle-upper bands. Oils modelled on well-known perfumes sit at the top. Price does not measure how well an oil throws in your wax. A ₹3.07-a-gram rose and a ₹7.65-a-gram vanilla are doing different jobs, and both can perform well. The questions to ask are what your customer will pay for the finished candle and which tier protects your margin at that price. Fragrances for a small brand and for a premium brand work through that decision.

Inspired-by oils are priced as a category of their own
Oils modelled on well-known perfumes are listed under the store's own names, for example the BBW Inspired and Fine Perfume Fragrances collections. They carry the highest per-gram prices in the catalogue, from about ₹9 to ₹24 a gram at 1 kg. Cost one into a candle before you commit a launch to it. At 8% in a 200 g candle, 16 g of the dearest works out at ₹384.90 of fragrance alone.
The CSI principle
Price the candle, not the bottle.
A ₹300 bottle and a ₹3,000 bottle tell you nothing until you know how many candles each makes and at what load. Convert every quote to ₹ per gram, then to ₹ per candle, and then compare suppliers. Comparing bottle prices is how makers overpay for cheap-looking small packs and walk past a premium oil their margin could easily carry.

Buying at the right price

The ladder tells you how to buy, not only what to pay. For a business the sequence below keeps money out of unproven stock without paying the tester premium on proven sellers.

1
Test in 15 g, or the smallest size listed15 g scents one 200 g candle at 7.5% or three 50 g test pots at 10%. Buy it for every scent you are considering. Where an oil starts at 50 g, as many inspired-by oils do, that is its tester. Where to Buy Small Fragrance Oil Samples for Candle Testing covers the tester route.
2
Cost the winners per candle before you scaleRun each shortlisted oil through the per-candle table above. Anything that pushes material cost past what your selling price can carry drops out now, before you have bought a kilo of it.
3
Move proven scents to 100 gThis is where the tester premium disappears. For most oils, 100 g costs the same per gram as 1 kg, and it scents 6.25 candles at 16 g each. You pay kilo rates without kilo risk.
4
Move to 1 kg when reorder frequency, not price, demands itIf you are reordering a scent more than once a month, the 1 kg saves time and protects against stockouts. Check whether the oil is one of the 24 with a real 1 kg saving, such as British Rose at 10.3% or Jasmine at 8.8%. If it is, the kilo also saves money.
5
Ask for a quote beyond the listed packsFor several kilos of one oil, or a mixed production order, message CSI on WhatsApp for a quote. No volume discount figure is published, so do not assume one, and ask. Candle Fragrance Oil Wholesale Price in India and Where to Buy Candle Fragrance Oils at Wholesale Prices in India explain how that route works.
6
Ask for the paperwork with the orderGST invoice, MSDS and IFRA documentation are available on request. Ask at the time of ordering, not when a retail buyer or gifting client asks you for them.

Here are three oils that show the three buying situations: a value oil with a real kilo saving, a best-seller priced flat above 50 g, and a premium gourmand where the fragrance is most of the candle's cost.

When the cheapest price costs more

The cheapest gram of oil is the one that does its job at the lowest load in your wax. The lowest bottle price does not guarantee that.

Price per candle assumes the load is fixed. In practice makers raise the load when a candle seems weak, and that quietly changes the price. A median oil at 10% costs ₹119.98 per candle, more than Dark Vanilla at 8%. Before you blame an oil and push its load, check the wick and the cure. A pool that never reaches the glass releases far less scent at any load, and a candle tested at two days is not the candle your customer will burn. Get those right first, then decide whether the oil is worth its price.

The reverse also happens. A maker switches to a cheaper oil to save ₹40 a candle, customers notice, and the repeat orders stop. Test any price-driven switch in a side-by-side burn before it reaches a customer. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page about price, the convenient advice for us would be to push the 1 kg pack as the smart buy. Our own listed prices say otherwise for most oils, so this page says so, names the 24 oils where the kilo does save money, and names the few where it costs slightly more.

Every oil and wax price on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026 across all 93 products in the Fragrance Oils collection. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are flagged rather than priced as buyable. Per-gram, per-candle and median figures are plain arithmetic on those prices and are shown to two decimals so you can check them.

The 200 g candle, the 8% load and the per-candle base are working assumptions for comparison, not a recipe. Your wax, jar and load decide your real figures. At CSI, in-stock sizes run from ₹68.44 for 15 g (Eucalyptus Spearmint) to ₹24,056.00 for 1 kg (Club De Nuit Intense Inspired). The median 100 g is ₹629.00 and the median 1 kg is ₹5,999.00. Per gram, 1 kg packs range from ₹2.83 to ₹24.06. The full table is in the price ladder.
How much does fragrance oil cost per candle?
For a 200 g candle at an 8% load (16 g of oil), ₹45.31 with the cheapest oil, ₹95.98 at the median and ₹384.90 with the dearest, all at 1 kg rates. Add wax, wick and jar (₹186.92 in our example) for material cost. Labour, packaging, freight and GST are extra.
Is 1 kg fragrance oil cheaper than 100 g?
Usually not per gram. For 52 of the 91 oils that list both sizes, the 1 kg is within 1% of the 100 g per gram. Twenty-four oils show a saving of 5% or more, including Citronella, Honeydew Melon, Mango Coconut, Verbena and British Rose. The dependable saving is moving up from 15 g, which carries a median 23.1% premium per gram.
Why are some fragrance oils so much more expensive?
The price reflects the formula. On CSI's catalogue, fresh, fruity and citrus profiles sit at the bottom (under ₹3.50 a gram at 1 kg). Gourmands, woods and Indian florals sit in the middle and upper bands. Oils modelled on well-known perfumes sit at the top (₹9 to ₹24 a gram). A higher price is not a promise of better throw, so test every oil in your own wax.
What is the cheapest fragrance oil for candle making?
By in-stock 1 kg price, Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832.00, then Citronella at ₹2,891.00, and British Rose and Eucalyptus Spearmint at ₹3,068.00 each. By smallest pack, Eucalyptus Spearmint 15 g at ₹68.44.
