Build a premium range from the Premium tier: oils priced at ₹6.50 to ₹9.00 a gram at their 1 kg listing. On 24 September 2026, 23 CSI oils in that tier had stock. A balanced six from it is Smoked Rose Royale, Neroli Signature Grade, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, Midnight Bakhoor Royale, Juicy Orange and Sage and Cedarwood: a signature rose, a light citrus-floral, an evening gourmand, a festive resin, a bright citrus and a calm wood. Premium brands often pour at a higher load; at 10% (20 g in a 200 g candle) these six put ₹158.04 of fragrance into each candle on average at 100 g prices, and material cost averages ₹342.56 before labour, packaging, freight and GST. The fragrance becomes the largest single cost in the candle, so the price has to carry it. Three things are worth reading from the table. Depth varies: most have every size in stock, but Sacred Sandal Ember was in stock only at 500 g on the pull date, and several start at 50 g or 100 g. Families are uneven: florals and woods dominate, with fewer citrus and fruity options. And prices within the band are close: the six chosen below span a little over ₹1.70 a gram at 1 kg, which keeps a premium range on one price list.
Two familiar names sit in this tier
Dark Vanilla (4th in the best-selling sort) and Gilli Mitti (15th) are both Premium-tier oils, and both appear in the best 10 as gift-line oils. Load and cost at the premium end
At the value end, raising the load is a cheap fix. At the premium end, every extra percentage point is a real line on the costing.
Premium brands often pour at a higher load than value brands, for a stronger hot throw. Two rules keep that honest. First, stay within the wax maker's stated maximum: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%. These are formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Second, more oil does not guarantee more scent; past the point the wick and melt pool can carry, it adds cost and can cause sooting or sweating. Test 8% and 10% side by side before you commit.

Each two-point rise in load adds 4 g of oil, which is ₹27.85 with Sage and Cedarwood and ₹35.96 with Coffee Vanilla Tobacco. The wax saved is 4 g, worth ₹2.40. So moving the premium six from 8% to 10% raises average material cost by about ₹29.21 a candle. 12% is possible in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks but not in CSI 464, and it only makes sense if your burn tests show it throws better, not just more expensively.
The load that hides a wick problem. A premium candle that seems weak is often under-wicked, not under-scented. Before you pay for a higher load, check that the melt pool reaches the glass within the first long burn. A correct wick at 8% often out-throws a wrong wick at 12%, at a lower cost.
Costing it into a premium price
A premium brand sets its selling price first and makes sure the candle can carry it. The table below shows the premium six at 10% as a share of three illustrative selling prices. These prices are examples to show the arithmetic, not recommendations: your market, packaging and channel decide your price. Two observations. At the lowest example price, materials take close to half the price, which leaves little for everything else a premium brand spends money on — a gift box, a printed label, a better jar. At the highest, they are a little under 30%. The oil itself, at ₹158.04 on average, is the biggest single material line. That is why the tier and the load are pricing decisions, not only scent decisions. Argued against our own interest, plainly. A premium brand does not need the dearest oils we sell. Lavender, at ₹108.00 a candle at 10% from 100 g, can sit in a premium range if your burn tests and customers say it belongs there, and it frees margin for the jar and box that customers also pay for. The Premium tier is a sensible home for a premium brand's oils, not a rule that every one must come from it.
Testing premium oils
Testing a premium range costs more than testing a starter range, for a simple reason: many Premium-tier oils have no 15 g size. In the six above, Smoked Rose Royale and Midnight Bakhoor Royale start at 100 g, and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco and Sage and Cedarwood at 50 g. Testing all six at their smallest in-stock size costs ₹2,660.00. The upside is that a 100 g test bottle is also a production size, so nothing is wasted if the oil passes.

There is no single answer, but premium ranges usually sit in a higher price tier. On CSI's catalogue the Premium tier (₹6.50–₹9.00 a gram at 1 kg) had 23 oils in stock on 24 September 2026, including Smoked Rose Royale, Neroli Signature Grade, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, Midnight Bakhoor Royale, Dark Vanilla and White Royal Oud.
What fragrance load should a luxury or premium candle use?
Whatever throws best in your burn tests, within the wax's stated maximum: up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and 10% for CSI 464. Many premium brands test at 8% and 10%. A higher load only helps if the wick can burn it cleanly.
How much does fragrance cost in a premium candle?

Are expensive fragrance oils better for candles?
