CSI Scent Search · Clean Cotton
CSI does not list a Clean Cotton fragrance oil. Cotton is soft, musky and close to the skin, and the nearest CSI oils are soft florals with musk bases. Here is which ones, what they cost, and a test that shows whether any of them can carry a cotton name.

five soft-to-clean oils × 50 g for a cotton knockout test · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Does CSI sell a Clean Cotton fragrance oil? No. On 24 September 2026 there is no oil in the CSI catalogue named or described as clean cotton, cotton blossom or fresh cotton. The only "cotton" product CSI lists is a wick.

What is a clean cotton scent, as a fragrance? The softer, closer cousin of fresh linen: mostly white musk and a powdery softness, with pale florals such as freesia or lily and only a little citrus or air. It smells like warm, just-dried sheets rather than a breeze.

What is the nearest CSI option? There is no single match. The oils nearest the soft, musky, lightly floral cotton zone are Japanese Cherry Blossom, the perfume-grade Pomegranate Splash listing (white musk, water lily, freesia) and Love Spell (the one oil in this test whose page says "powdery"), with Cucumber Green Tea as a clean-musk control.

How do I choose? Run a knockout test: pour all five at 8%, compare in pairs with one question ("which smells more like clean cotton sheets?"), and let the winner earn a cotton-style name.
The short answer
Plainly: no Clean Cotton oil is listed at CSI as of 24 September 2026.
What cotton needs: white musk, a powdery softness and pale florals. CSI oils state those parts separately; none states all of them with nothing sweet on top.
Nearest options: Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹270.00, 50 g), Pomegranate Splash perfume-grade (₹192.00, 50 g), Love Spell (₹249.00, 50 g), Jasmine (₹230.00, 50 g).
The risk: soft oils drift sweet. Every nearest option opens with fruit or blossom, so the test is whether the musk wins by the time the candle is lit.
Where "clean cotton" sits, and which CSI oils are near it Placement is our judgement from each page's stated notes, not a measurement. Filled dot = page states a candle load. CLEAN COTTON ZONE (no CSI oil at its centre) linen, for contrast ← airy, outdoors close, skin-soft → AIR ↔ SKIN BRIGHT ↔ POWDERY bright powdery Blue Ocean Verbena Cucumber Green Tea Lavender Pomegranate Splash* Jasmine Japanese Cherry Blossom Love Spell * Perfume-grade listing: its page gives perfume rates, not a candle load. Hollow dot = no candle load stated. No CSI oil sits in the middle of the zone: cotton accords usually lean on white musk and powder, and no CSI page states "clean cotton". Love Spell is the only oil on this map whose page uses the word "powdery".
A cotton accord sits close to the skin and towards the powdery side; linen sits airier and brighter. CSI's aquatic and citrus oils cluster top left, far from cotton. The soft florals and the one "powdery" page sit nearest the cotton zone, but none sits in its centre.
Straight answer
I want clean cotton candles. Does CSI sell a Clean Cotton fragrance oil, and what is the closest thing?
CSI does not list a Clean Cotton fragrance oil as of 24 September 2026. Cotton accords are built on white musk and a powdery softness with pale florals, and CSI's fresh range leans the other way, towards air, sea, citrus and green. The oils that sit closest to cotton are soft florals with musk bases: Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹270.00 for 50 g; "rose and jasmine heart, grounded by warm sandalwood and musk"), the perfume-grade Pomegranate Splash listing (₹192.00 for 50 g; "water lily, freesia, and peony" drying to "white musk, light woods, and amber"), Love Spell (₹249.00; "white musk and powdery vanilla") and Jasmine (₹230.00; "slightly musky"). Each opens with fruit or blossom that a cotton accord does not have, so none is a like-for-like swap. Test all four against Cucumber Green Tea as a clean control in a knockout, and ask on WhatsApp if a true cotton oil is essential.
One line: no cotton oil at CSI; the nearest options are soft florals with musk bases, and your job is to find the one where the musk, not the fruit, is what people notice.
Cheapest white-musk oil in this test. Pomegranate Splash (perfume-grade listing) is ₹192.00 for 50 g (₹3.84 per gram): water lily, freesia and peony over white musk and light woods. Its page gives perfume rates, not a candle load, so stay within your wax's ceiling.
Buy Pomegranate Splash 50 g — ₹192.00

What a cotton accord is made of

Cotton does not smell of much. "Clean cotton" smells of what happened to it: washing, drying, folding, and a warm cupboard.

Like linen, clean cotton is a perfumer's style, not a natural material. We checked the full CSI catalogue on 24 September 2026 and no fragrance oil is titled or described as cotton; the only item with "cotton" in its name is Cotton Braided Wicks. So instead of a product, this section gives you the recipe that cotton accords usually follow, so you can judge any substitute on paper first.

Inside a clean cotton accord · general perfumery practice
Five usual parts, and where CSI has them
Part What it does Typical materials CSI page that states something similar
White musk (the core) Warm, skin-soft "clean" that lasts Clean or white musks Pomegranate Splash (perfume-grade): "white musk"; Love Spell: "white musk"; Cucumber Green Tea: "Clean musk"; Japanese Cherry Blossom: "musk"
Powder The dry, cosy, "folded towel" softness Iris, heliotrope, soft vanilla Love Spell: "powdery vanilla" (Mogra states "slightly powdery" but is out of stock)
Pale florals Freshness without a named flower Freesia, lily, lily of the valley, light jasmine Pomegranate Splash: "water lily, freesia, and peony"; Jasmine: "slightly musky"; Japanese Cherry Blossom: "soft pink petals"
A little brightness Stops it going heavy Aldehydes, a trace of citrus None states aldehydes; Cucumber Green Tea states "hints of lemon"
A soft base Holds it together through the burn Light woods, soft amber Pomegranate Splash: "light woods, and amber"; Japanese Cherry Blossom: "warm sandalwood"

The short version of how cotton differs from its neighbours: cotton is softer and closer than linen, with more musk and powder and less air and citrus, and quieter than laundry, which is brighter and soapier. The airy linen story, and the nearest oils for it, are on Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making; the three-way comparison and blending are on Fresh Laundry Fragrance Oil for Candles. Here we stay on the soft side.

Honest gap: no CSI oil states the full cotton structure with nothing on top. Every in-stock oil we found that has the musk and softness also opens with fruit or blossom; in this test that means cherry, pomegranate, peach and apple. That is the one fact that shapes everything below. If your brand needs a cotton candle that smells of nothing but clean sheets, ask us on WhatsApp before you plan the launch around a substitute.

The five nearest options, soft to clean

Ordered from softest to cleanest by our reading of each page's stated notes. We rank on the cotton parts each page states, whether a candle load is stated, price per gram and stock on 24 September 2026; there are no throw measurements behind this. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil).

1
soft floral musk · closest overall
Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Oil
In our reading, the best balance of soft floral and musk among these five for a cotton-style candle. Stated notes: "sweet cherry and soft pink petals opening into a rose and jasmine heart, grounded by warm sandalwood and musk". The page states "6-13% for candles", the highest stated range of the five, but the lower of your wax's ceiling and the oil's maximum governs (see the next section). Who it is for: a cotton candle that leans pretty and bedroom-soft. Limitation: "sweet cherry" in the opening. At the high end of its range the cherry is what people may notice first, so compare 6% with 8% carefully.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹104.00 ₹6.93 1
50 g ₹270.00 ₹5.40 4
100 g ₹500.00 ₹5.00 8
500 g ₹2,500.00 ₹5.00 41
1 kg ₹4,842.00 ₹4.84 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹64.80 at 50 g, ₹58.10 at 1 kg (10.3% cheaper per gram). Buy Japanese Cherry Blossom
2
watery floral · white musk base · perfume-grade
Pomegranate Splash
On paper, the closest stated structure to cotton after the opening: "Opens with juicy pomegranate, red berries, and bright mandarin, moves into a watery-floral heart of water lily, freesia, and peony, and dries down to white musk, light woods, and amber". Freesia, lily and white musk are classic cotton materials. This is the perfume-grade listing; its page quotes rates of up to 25% for extrait, 20% for EDP/EDT and 15% for solid perfume, which are not candle loads, and it states no candle load, so work inside your wax's ceiling and test at 6% and 8%. The page says "IFRA compliant, phthalate-free, skin-safe" (page wording). Be careful at checkout: CSI also lists a different "Pomegranate Splash Fragrance Oil" whose notes end in "soft musk and sugar crystals" and cost ₹249.00 for 50 g; the one described here is ₹192.00. Limitation: a juicy fruit opening, and flat pricing (₹3.84 per gram at every size), so no bulk saving.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50 g ₹192.00 ₹3.84 4
100 g ₹384.00 ₹3.84 8
1 kg ₹3,843.00 ₹3.84 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹46.08 at 50 g, ₹46.12 at 1 kg. Buy Pomegranate Splash 50 g
3
powdery musk · the one "powdery" page in this test
Love Spell Fragrance Oil
The one oil in this test whose page uses the word cotton accords are known for (elsewhere in the catalogue "powdery" appears only in a leather-style listing and in Mogra, which is out of stock): "Opens with peach, cherry blossom, and red apple. Settles into jasmine, lilac, and soft rose. Melts into white musk and powdery vanilla." The page states "High throw in soy wax at 8-10%" and "IFRA Certified" (page wording). Who it is for: a cosier, sweeter cotton, the "warm from the dryer" end. Limitations: the fruit opening is the fullest of the five, and its pricing runs oddly: the 500 g (₹5.00 per gram) is dearer per gram than both the 100 g (₹4.49) and the 1 kg (₹4.50). Five 100 g bottles cost ₹2,245.00, which is ₹254.00 less than one 500 g.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50 g ₹249.00 ₹4.98 4
100 g ₹449.00 ₹4.49 8
500 g ₹2,499.00 ₹5.00 41
1 kg ₹4,499.00 ₹4.50 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹53.88 at 100 g, ₹59.98 at 500 g. Buy Love Spell
4
white floral · slightly musky
Jasmine Fragrance Oil
A single-flower option for makers whose idea of cotton is "white flowers on clean sheets". The page describes it as "sweet, floral, and slightly musky with a timeless luxurious aroma" and states "Recommended load up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin". Its advantage over the three above: no fruit. Its disadvantage: jasmine is a named, recognisable flower, and "sweet" is in its description. Pricing is friendly in bulk, with the 1 kg 14.7% cheaper per gram than the 50 g. One published review of it on CSI is four stars from an unverified buyer who had not yet poured it, so treat that as a comment on the bottle, not the candle.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹103.00 ₹6.87 1
50 g ₹230.00 ₹4.60 4
100 g ₹430.00 ₹4.30 8
500 g ₹1,961.00 ₹3.92 41
1 kg ₹3,923.00 ₹3.92 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹55.20 at 50 g, ₹47.08 at 1 kg. Buy Jasmine
5
clean musk · the control
Cucumber Green Tea
Not a cotton oil, and not meant to win. It is in the test because its base is stated as "Clean musk, light woods" with "Delicate jasmine, hints of lemon" in the heart, so it shows your testers what clean musk smells like with no fruit on top. If testers prefer it to all four soft options, your customers' idea of cotton is cleaner than soft, and the airier routes on Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making may suit you better. The load is worded "8-10% fragrance oil per pound of wax"; we apply it as a percentage of total weight. Limitation: the cucumber and green tea top reads spa, not sheets.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 g ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 g ₹176.41 ₹3.53 4
100 g ₹352.82 ₹3.53 8
500 g ₹1,663.80 ₹3.33 41
1 kg ₹3,327.60 ₹3.33 83
The cheapest oil here: ₹42.34 per 8% candle at 50 g. Buy Cucumber Green Tea

Soft or clean oils we left out of the cotton test
Oil Stated notes that looked promising Why it is not in the five
Neroli Signature Grade "White Musk, Soft Woods, Amber"; "Light White Florals" Perfume-grade; page gives "Best as EDP (18–22%)", no candle load; ₹7.98 per gram at 50 g, more than double Pomegranate Splash. A good sniff, a costly test.
British Rose Fragrance Oil "fresh, dewy rose petals with subtle green undertones and a soft floral finish" Reads as rose, a named flower, with no musk stated.
Lavender Fragrance Oil "soft musk base" Lavender leads; it belongs to the linen-cupboard story on Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making.
Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil "musk", "lily of the valley" Sea salt and ozone put it at the airy end of the map, far from cotton.
Mogra Fragrance Oil "slightly powdery", "Soft musk", "creamy white florals" Out of stock on 24 September 2026 (₹642.00 for 100 g when available). Do not plan around it.

Two ceilings: why one oil's 13% depends on your wax

Japanese Cherry Blossom is the only oil in the cotton five whose page states a maximum above 10%: "6-13% for candles". Whether you can use that 13% depends on the wax. The rule is simple: the lower of the wax maker's stated maximum and the oil page's stated maximum governs. Both are formulation limits, not regulatory ones.

Wax choice for soft, musky oils · stated ceilings
What each CSI container wax allows with Japanese Cherry Blossom
Wax Wax page ceiling Governing maximum with Japanese Cherry Blossom 1 kg price (per gram) Page handling note
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10% 10% ₹507.40 (₹0.51) Melt and pour 80–90°C
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13% 13% ₹599.00 (₹0.60) —
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 up to 13% 13% ₹650.00 (₹0.65) Pour 58–60°C

For the other four, the ceiling question never arises: Love Spell and Jasmine state 10% maximums, and Pomegranate Splash states no candle load at all, so the wax's ceiling is the only limit. Being allowed 13% is not a reason to use it. Soft, musky oils are the ones most likely to turn cloying at a high load, and 13% of a 150 g candle is 19.5 g of oil: ₹94.42 of Japanese Cherry Blossom at the 1 kg price, against ₹72.63 at 10%. That extra ₹21.79 per candle only makes sense if your 13% candle beats your 10% candle in a blind burn.

Our suggestion for a cotton test
Pour the knockout below in one wax, so wax is not a variable. CSI 464 (₹1,014.80 for 2 kg) is the cheapest and caps everything at 10%, which is where soft oils are usually tested anyway. If Japanese Cherry Blossom wins at 10% and you want to try higher, repeat it alone in CSI 468 (₹1,300.00 for 2 kg) or the Chunks (₹1,198.00) at 10%, 11.5% and 13%.

The knockout test for a cotton substitute

One question, asked in pairs, until one candle is left.

Soft oils are hard to score on a 1–5 scale: they all smell "nice", and the scores bunch together. A knockout, where testers only ever choose between two candles, separates them faster and needs fewer people. Here is the method we would use for cotton.

1
Pour five at one loadAll five oils at 8% in 150 g jars: 12 g of oil and 138 g of wax each. One load keeps the first round fair; you find the best load for the winner later.
2
Cure for a weekNone of the five pages states a cure time. At least 48–72 hours, and longer for soy, is common practice; for musk-heavy oils we would wait the full seven days, because musk bases are slow to show.
3
Ask one question, in pairsHide the labels. Give a tester two candles and ask only: "Which smells more like clean cotton sheets?" Not "which do you like?", which rewards the sweetest. The loser is out.
4
Run the bracketPair 1 against 2 and 3 against 4, with Cucumber Green Tea waiting. Winners meet; the last winner meets Cucumber Green Tea. Repeat with three or four testers and count wins.
5
Burn the champion at three loadsPour the winner at 6%, 8% and 10% (within the ceiling for your wax). Burn one at a time for two to three hours and ask the same question from the doorway. Keep the lowest load that still reads as clean cotton.
6
Check the control resultIf Cucumber Green Tea beat every soft oil, your testers want clean more than soft. That is useful: it means a cotton name may not suit your customers at all.

The first round needs five oils at 50 g (₹1,117.41), 2 kg of CSI 464 (₹1,014.80), a pack of 10 Clear Glass Jars with Golden Lid (150 gram) (₹944.00), 10 C1 wicks (₹59.00) and wick stickers (₹100.00): ₹3,235.21 in all, with jars left for the champion's three-load pour. On a tighter budget, the three most distinct options, Japanese Cherry Blossom, Pomegranate Splash and Cucumber Green Tea, cost ₹638.41 at 50 g.

Mistake: asking testers which candle they like best. Fix: liking and matching are different questions. The sweetest, fruitiest oil usually wins "which do you like?", then disappoints the customer who bought a "cotton" candle. Ask the matching question every time.

The sweetness trap

Every soft option in this guide carries some sweetness: cherry, pomegranate, peach, "sweet" jasmine, "powdery vanilla". Cotton accords are not sweet. Three ways to keep a substitute on the clean side of that line:

Load lower than you think

Fruit and vanilla notes tend to become more obvious as load rises. If 6% and 8% both pass the doorway test, keep 6%. It is also cheaper: 3 g less Japanese Cherry Blossom per candle.

Let it cure longer

Fruity tops are loudest in a fresh candle; musk bases take longer to show. A candle that reads "fruity" at day 3 may read softer at day 7 or later, so judge at day 7 at the earliest.

Pair it with a clean-musk oil

A soft oil combined with a cleaner one at a total load within the ceiling can pull the sweetness back. How to blend two oils, at what ratios and how to test the blend, is laid out on Fresh Laundry Fragrance Oil for Candles.

Argued against our own interest: the easy sale would be to call Love Spell or Japanese Cherry Blossom "our clean cotton". They are good oils; they are not cotton oils, and their pages do not say they are. If your testers keep saying "fruity" at 6%, stop there. A pleasant soft-floral candle with an honest name will sell better than a "cotton" candle that smells of cherries.

Where cotton-style candles fit a range

In our judgement, cotton-style scents do best where "fresh" would feel too cold: bedrooms, guest rooms, wardrobes, and winter. Winter in India runs roughly December to February, colder in the North and milder in the South; a soft, musky clean is a natural winter partner for the citrus and aquatic candles that lead in summer. Soft cotton-style candles also sit well in wedding return gifts and in Christmas (25 December 2026) boxes as the one gentle, non-spicy option. How they fit a five-scent clean line is covered in Best Clean Fragrances for a Candle Collection, and premium vessel and soy choices in Luxury Clean Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles.

A cotton-style candle, costed · worked example
Material cost per 150 g candle at 8%, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST
Line Pomegranate Splash (perfume-grade) Japanese Cherry Blossom
Oil, 12 g at 50 g price ₹46.08 ₹64.80
Wax, 138 g CSI 464 at 1 kg price ₹70.02 ₹70.02
Clear 150 g jar, pack of 10 ₹94.40 ₹94.40
C1 wick ₹5.90 ₹5.90
Total ₹216.40 ₹235.12

For a soft, cotton look, a White Matte Glass Jar is ₹70.80 each in the pack of 10 (₹708.00); its page gives dimensions (height 8 cm, width 7 cm) rather than a fill weight, so weigh a full jar before you cost it. The wick in any new vessel needs its own melt-pool test; start from the Candle Wicks collection rather than assuming C1 carries over.

Cotton-style candles for Christmas, 25 December 2026? That is 92 days from our price check: enough for the knockout, a three-load pour of the winner and a production run. Japanese Cherry Blossom 500 g is ₹2,500.00 (41 candles at 8%); CSI 468 is ₹3,185.00 for 5 kg if you want the 13% headroom. Ask on WhatsApp for a quote and GST invoice.

The CSI principle
Match first, like second.
A substitute is judged by how close it gets to what the customer expects, not by how pleasant it is. Pleasant and wrong is still wrong on a label that says cotton.
"We do not sell a clean cotton oil. We sell soft florals with musk bases, and a way to find out which one your customers will accept as cotton, or none."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells every oil, wax and jar named here and does not sell finished candles. This page opens by telling cotton searchers we do not have what they searched for, and it recommends a clean control oil that may show them they do not need a cotton scent at all.

The catalogue search, every price and every per-gram figure were checked on CSI's live store on 24 September 2026. All five test oils were in stock at every listed size on that date. Notes, candle loads, perfume rates and IFRA or phthalate wording are quoted from each product page; where a page states no candle load, we say so.

The cotton accord model is general perfumery practice; the positioning map, rankings and knockout method are our judgement, not measurements. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Clean cotton fragrance oil for candles in India, where to buy?
CSI does not list a clean cotton fragrance oil as of 24 September 2026. The nearest CSI options are soft florals with musk bases, such as Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹270.00 for 50 g) and the perfume-grade Pomegranate Splash (₹192.00 for 50 g). Ask CSI on WhatsApp if a cotton oil is planned.
What does clean cotton smell like in a candle?
Soft and close rather than airy: mostly white musk and a powdery softness, pale florals such as freesia or lily, and only a little brightness. Think warm, just-dried sheets. Fresh linen is airier and brighter; fresh laundry is soapier.
Which fragrance oil has a white musk note for candles?
Several CSI pages state white musk, mostly under fruit or citrus tops (Juicy Orange, Tangerine and Royal Apricot among them). For a cotton-style candle the most relevant are the perfume-grade Pomegranate Splash ("white musk, light woods, and amber" under a watery-floral heart) and Love Spell ("white musk and powdery vanilla"). CSI does not list a stand-alone musk oil.
Can I use perfume-grade fragrance oil in candles?
Perfume-grade pages such as Pomegranate Splash quote perfume rates (up to 25%, 20% and 15%), which are not candle loads, and state no candle load. If you test one in a candle, stay within your wax's stated ceiling (10% for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464), start at 6% and 8%, and burn-test before selling.
How much Japanese Cherry Blossom fragrance oil per candle?
Its page states 6–13% for candles. The lower of that and your wax's ceiling governs: 10% in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 13% in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks or Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468. In a 150 g candle, 8% is 12 g. Test 6%, 8% and 10% before trying higher.
Why does my soft floral candle smell too sweet?
Fruit and vanilla notes tend to become more obvious at higher loads and in a freshly poured candle. Try a lower load, cure for at least a week before judging, and compare against a clean-musk oil such as Cucumber Green Tea to see how far the sweetness has drifted.

Non-price figures: candle maths assume a 150 g candle with load as a percentage of total weight (8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax; 13% = 19.5 g); candle counts are floor(grams ÷ 12). Wax ceilings as stated by the wax pages: CSI 464 up to 10%, Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%; these are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Perfume rates quoted from perfume-grade pages are not candle loads. The cotton accord model is general perfumery practice; the positioning map and rankings are editorial judgement. Per-candle costs are worked examples and exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Christmas (25 December 2026) is a calendar date; winter is approximate.
