Fresh Laundry Fragrance Oil for Candles
Share
How is "laundry" different from linen and cotton? Laundry is the loudest of the three: brighter, soapier, more citrus and floral, the smell of detergent and a wet wash. Linen is airier and sunlit; cotton is softer, musky and close to the skin.
What is the nearest CSI option? No single oil. The nearest route is a blend: Blue Ocean for the fresh-wash body with Citrus Lemon or Lavender for the detergent-bright or lavender-clean lift. Lemongrass and Lime and British Rose are the herbal and floral variations.
What is the one blending rule? The blend's total load must stay within the lower of the wax ceiling and the oils' stated maximums. At 8% in a 150 g candle, that is 12 g of oil in total, split between the oils, not 12 g of each.
Laundry vs linen vs cotton
We checked the CSI catalogue on 24 September 2026: no oil is named or described as fresh laundry, fresh linen or clean cotton. People often use the three words as if they meant the same thing. In fragrance they do not, and the difference decides which CSI oils get you closest. The linen and cotton answers each have their own page, Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making and Clean Cotton Fragrance Oil for Candle Making; this table is the map between them.
| Fresh laundry | Fresh linen | Clean cotton | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The moment | Detergent, the wash itself, a basket of wet clothes | Cloth drying outdoors in a breeze | Warm, folded sheets from the cupboard |
| Volume | Loudest, most "perfumed" | Medium, airy | Quietest, close |
| Usual top | Citrus, aldehydes, a soapy sparkle | Aldehydes, ozone, a little citrus | A trace of brightness only |
| Usual heart | Lavender, rose, lily, "clean" florals | Lily of the valley, lavender | Freesia, lily, soft florals |
| Usual base | Musk, sometimes a soft wood | Clean musk, pale wood | White musk and powder, the core |
| Nearest CSI approach | A two-oil blend: Blue Ocean with Citrus Lemon or Lavender | Blue Ocean alone, tested against a line-dried cloth | Soft florals with musk bases, tested in a knockout |

The practical consequence: laundry is the only one of the three where CSI's brightest, cheapest oils help rather than hurt. Citrus that would make a linen candle smell like a kitchen is exactly what gives a laundry candle its detergent lift. No CSI oil states aldehydes or a "soapy" note, which is the honest gap; the blends below get their brightness from citrus and their clean from lavender, lily and musk instead.
Five building blocks at CSI
These are chosen for the part each one can play in a laundry-style blend, not as stand-alone laundry oils; none of their pages describes them as laundry scents. All five pages state a candle maximum of 10% and all five were in stock at every listed size on 24 September 2026. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil) with the oil used alone.

Blending rules: one load, shared
Blending fragrance oils is ordinary candle practice, but it has one rule that catches beginners, and three that save money. None of them is exotic; all of them are easy to forget with two bottles open.
Rule 1: the total load stays within the lower ceiling
The ceiling for a blend is the lowest of: the wax maker's stated maximum and each blended oil's stated maximum. With Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (up to 10%) and these five oils (every page states a candle maximum of 10%), that is 10% of total candle weight, which is 15 g in a 150 g candle, shared between the oils. If you use Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 or Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, whose pages allow up to 13%, the blend is still capped at 10% by the oils. Ceilings are formulation limits, not regulatory ones, and a maximum is not a target.
Rule 2: fix the ratio by weight, then vary the load
Decide the ratio first (70 : 30, 60 : 40, 50 : 50), then pour that same blend at 6%, 8% and 10%. Changing ratio and load at the same time leaves you with candles you cannot compare. For Blend A at 8%, 70 : 30 of 12 g is 8.4 g Blue Ocean and 3.6 g Citrus Lemon; at 10% it is 10.5 g and 4.5 g.
Rule 3: pre-blend in a jar, not in the wax
Weigh the oils into a small clean glass jar, stir, lid it, and add the pre-blend to the wax by weight like a single oil. Adding two oils straight into the jug makes small weighing errors twice. Bamboo stirring sticks are ₹118.00 for 5.
Rule 4: cost the blend, not the bottles
A blend's oil cost is the weighted average of its parts. Blend A costs ₹53.74 per 8% candle at 50 g prices, less than Blue Ocean alone (₹59.28) because 30% of it is cheaper Citrus Lemon. Blend C costs ₹72.00, the most of the four, because both of its oils are dearer per gram.
| Blend | Ratio | 6% (9 g) | 8% (12 g) | 10% (15 g) | Oil cost at 8%, 50 g prices | Reads as, in our judgement |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A · Bright ocean wash | Blue Ocean 70 : Citrus Lemon 30 | 6.3 g + 2.7 g | 8.4 g + 3.6 g | 10.5 g + 4.5 g | ₹53.74 | Detergent-bright, fresh |
| B · Lavender wash | Lavender 60 : Blue Ocean 40 | 5.4 g + 3.6 g | 7.2 g + 4.8 g | 9 g + 6 g | ₹62.59 | Clean lavender, softer |
| C · Herbal soap | Lemongrass and Lime 50 : Lavender 50 | 4.5 g + 4.5 g | 6 g + 6 g | 7.5 g + 7.5 g | ₹72.00 | Soap-bar herbal |
| D · Floral fresh | British Rose 30 : Citrus Lemon 20 : Blue Ocean 50 | 2.7 + 1.8 + 4.5 g | 3.6 + 2.4 + 6 g | 4.5 + 3 + 7.5 g | ₹53.09 | Rose-and-clean wash |
Testing a laundry blend, step by step
The aim is to find one ratio and one load. We test in two stages, on paper strips first and in candles second, because strips are free and candles take a week.
The blend-test basket
The basket below covers the full version of the test: all four blends at three loads, twelve candles and 144 g of pre-blend. If your strip tests knock two blends out, you simply have oil to spare for the retest. Because Blue Ocean appears in Blends A, B and D, it is the oil you run out of first: across all four blends at three loads it needs 57.6 g, more than a 50 g bottle. So the basket buys Blue Ocean at 100 g (₹495.00, ₹248.00 more than the 50 g) and British Rose at 15 g (₹94.40), since Blend D uses only 10.8 g of it.
| Item | Size | Price | Why this size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil | 100 g | ₹495.00 | 57.6 g needed across Blends A, B and D |
| Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹170.00 | 18 g needed (A and D); the 15 g is too small |
| Lavender Fragrance Oil | 50 g | ₹270.00 | 39.6 g needed (B and C) |
| Lemongrass and Lime | 50 g | ₹330.00 | 18 g needed (C) |
| British Rose Fragrance Oil | 15 g | ₹94.40 | 10.8 g needed (D) |
| Oils subtotal | ₹1,359.40 | Five oils at 50 g each would be ₹1,229.40 and run short of Blue Ocean | |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 2 × 1 kg | ₹1,014.80 | 12 candles need about 1.66 kg |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) | Pack of 20 | ₹1,888.00 | 12 for the test, 8 for retests and the first pour |
| Eco Candle Wicks, Thin (C1) | 20 wicks | ₹118.00 | starting point only; check the melt pool |
| Bamboo Stirring Sticks | Pack of 5 | ₹118.00 | one per pre-blend |
| Candle Wick Stickers | 1 sheet, 40 | ₹100.00 | |
| Total | ₹4,598.20 | ₹383.18 per candle across 12 |
The jars and wicks are bought as 20 because the pack of 20 costs exactly twice the pack of 10, so the spare eight cost no more per jar and carry you into the first pour. The C1 wick is a starting point, not a prescription: blends behave like any other oil, and the right wick depends on the jar and the melt pool, so check the Candle Wicks collection if the pool has not reached the glass after two to three hours.
From a winning blend to a production batch
Once a blend passes, production is simple arithmetic. A batch of 41 candles of 150 g at 8% needs 492 g of pre-blend. For Blend A at 70 : 30, that is 344.4 g Blue Ocean and 147.6 g Citrus Lemon. Valued at 1 kg per-gram prices, the oil in that batch is ₹1,706.85 of Blue Ocean plus ₹418.00 of Citrus Lemon, ₹2,124.85 in all; in practice you would buy a 500 g pack of each (₹3,898.00) and have a little of both left. Per candle at 1 kg prices, Blend A carries ₹51.83 of oil and Blend B ₹61.38.
Worked example, Blend A at 8% in the 150 g clear jar: 12 g of blended oil at 50 g prices (₹53.74) + 138 g of CSI 464 at the 1 kg price (₹70.02) + one jar from the pack of 10 (₹94.40) + one C1 wick (₹5.90) = ₹224.06, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST. After Diwali, laundry-style candles have a second natural season in the southwest monsoon, roughly June to September, when clothes are slow to dry and "clean washing" is a smell people miss. CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells every oil, wax and accessory named here and does not sell finished candles. This page starts by telling laundry searchers we do not have a laundry oil, and recommends buying small amounts of several oils rather than a kilogram of one.
The catalogue search, every price and every per-gram figure were checked on CSI's live store on 24 September 2026. All five building-block oils were in stock at every listed size on that date. Notes, candle loads and IFRA or phthalate wording are quoted from each product page.
The laundry, linen and cotton descriptions are general fragrance practice; the blend recipes, ratios and "reads as" calls are our worked examples and judgement, not CSI formulas or measurements. Wax ceilings as stated by the wax pages: CSI 464 up to 10%, CSI 468 and Chunks up to 13%; these are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Blend recipes, ratios and production quantities are worked examples; the 492 g pre-blend value uses 1 kg per-gram prices as a reference, not a pack price.
