CSI does not sell a fragrance starter pack for candle making. You do not need one. Decide how many candles your first batch will be, split them across your scents, and buy exactly the oil they need from the sizes that are listed. For 20 candles that is simpler, and cheaper, than it sounds.

fragrance oil per candle in a five-scent, 20-candle starter plan · 50 g + 15 g of each oil, ₹1,797.26 in total · 200 g candles at 8% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Does CSI sell a fragrance oil starter pack? No. There is no fragrance starter pack, combo or sample pack on the store. You build one from single oils in the listed sizes. CSI will help you put it together and quote it on WhatsApp.

How much fragrance oil do I need for my first 20 candles? At 200 g per candle and an 8% load, 16 g per candle, 320 g in total. Split across five scents, that is 64 g each, which a 50 g bottle plus a 15 g bottle (65 g) covers exactly.

What does a 20-candle starter pack cost? Oil alone: ₹1,797.26 for five scents. With 4 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 50 wicks and 20 jars: ₹5,904.26. Add ₹826.00 if you also need a scale, thermometer and centring devices.

Is it better to buy more scents or more of each? For a first batch, more scents. Five scents at four candles each cost ₹1,797.26 in oil. Four scents at five candles each cost ₹1,927.48 if you buy 100 g of each. See three ways to split 20.
The short answer
Plainly: CSI sells no fragrance starter pack. A starter pack is built from single oils, sized to the candles you plan to make.
20 candles: 320 g of oil at 16 g per 200 g candle. Five scents × (50 g + 15 g) = ₹1,797.26. Four scents × 100 g = ₹1,927.48. Two scents × (100 g + 50 g + 15 g) = ₹1,717.22.
Whole pack: Oils ₹1,797.26 + wax (4 × 1 kg) ₹2,396.00 + Eco Thin C1 wicks (50) ₹295.00 + White Matte jars (20) ₹1,416.00 = ₹5,904.26. Tools are extra; the starter-kit bill prices them.
Your first 20 candles, planned before you buy a single bottle Five scents × four candles. Outlined = the one you burn yourself first; filled = the three you give or sell. Cherry Blossom 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹374.00 · 64 g used Apple Cinnamon 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹330.40 · 64 g used Mango Coconut 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹343.22 · 64 g used Woody Oud 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹364.62 · 64 g used Bergamot Amber 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹385.02 · 64 g used 20 candles × 16 g = 320 g of oil · 325 g bought for ₹1,797.26 · oil per candle ₹89.86 Plus 4 kg wax, 50 wicks, 20 jars: first-20 pack ₹5,904.26 before tools
The first candle of each scent is the one you burn yourself. The other three go to friends, family or first customers for feedback. Each scent uses 64 g of its 65 g, so every bottle is finished with 1 g left. That is a thin margin; if you expect to spill or re-pour, see the 100 g option in the layouts table.
Straight answer
Is there a fragrance oil starter pack for candle making, and how much should a beginner buy?
CSI does not sell a fragrance oil starter pack, and it lists no combo, sample pack or discovery set either. A beginner does not need one. Decide how many candles your first batch will be, then buy exactly the oil those candles use. For 20 container candles of 200 g at an 8% load, that is 16 g per candle and 320 g in total. Split across five scents, each scent needs 64 g, and CSI's sizes cover that neatly: one 50 g bottle plus one 15 g bottle is 65 g. Using Japanese Cherry Blossom, Apple Cinnamon, Mango Coconut, Woody Oud and Bergamot Amber, the oil for all 20 candles costs ₹1,797.26, or ₹89.86 a candle. Add 4 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 50 wicks and 20 jars and the whole pack is ₹5,904.26 before tools. Burn the first candle of each scent yourself and give the other three away for feedback. By candle twenty you will know which scents to buy again in 100 g.
One line: decide the candles first — 20 candles is 320 g of oil, and the bottles follow from that.
The five-scent plan uses one 50 g and one 15 g of each oil: Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹374.00, Apple Cinnamon ₹330.40, Mango Coconut ₹343.22, Woody Oud ₹364.62 and Bergamot Amber ₹385.02. That is ₹1,797.26 for 325 g of oil, enough for 20 candles of 200 g at 8%.

Why plan in candles, not bottles

Every beginner asks which bottles to buy. The better question is how many candles you are going to make. The bottles follow from the answer.

Start with the fact: CSI does not sell a fragrance starter pack. There is no pre-packed set of oils for beginners, and no fragrance combo or sample pack. What CSI lists is 93 fragrance oils, 86 of them with some size in stock, each sold singly from 15 g upward. So a starter pack is something you assemble. That sounds like more work than buying a box, but it means the pack matches your first batch instead of a guess about it.

Twenty candles is a good first batch. It is enough to try several scents properly and to hand candles to people who will tell you the truth about them. It is small enough that a mistake — a wick too thin, a jar that sweats, a scent nobody likes — costs a few hundred rupees rather than a few thousand. Twenty is also a number that divides cleanly: five scents of four, four of five, or two of ten. Each split tells you something different, and each needs a different set of bottles.

Candle maths · 200 g candle · three fragrance loads
How much oil 20 candles need
Load Oil per candle Wax per candle Oil for 20 Wax for 20
6% 12 g 188 g 240 g 3,760 g
8% 16 g 184 g 320 g 3,680 g
10% 20 g 180 g 400 g 3,600 g

This page works at 8%, which sits comfortably inside the wax maker's stated maximum for both CSI soy waxes: up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and up to 10% for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464. Those are formulation limits, not regulatory ones. If you want to test at 10%, the oil for 20 candles rises to 400 g, and every bottle in the plans below needs to step up. Plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns as a working assumption.

Three ways to split 20 candles

The same 20 candles can be split three sensible ways. The table prices each one with real in-stock oils. In every case the grams bought are at least the grams needed; the difference is how many scents you learn about and how much oil is left over.

20 candles · 200 g · 8% · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Five × four, four × five, two × ten
Split Scents Oil needed per scent Bought per scent Oil bill Oil per candle Left over
5 × 4 Cherry Blossom, Apple Cinnamon, Mango Coconut, Woody Oud, Bergamot Amber 64 g 50 g + 15 g = 65 g ₹1,797.26 ₹89.86 1 g per scent
4 × 5 The first four of those 80 g 100 g ₹1,927.48 ₹96.37 20 g per scent (1.25 candles)
2 × 10 Cherry Blossom, Mango Coconut 160 g 100 g + 50 g + 15 g = 165 g ₹1,717.22 ₹85.86 5 g per scent

The two-scent split is the cheapest oil bill, ₹1,717.22, and the five-scent split costs only ₹80.04 more. For that difference you learn about three more scents. The four-scent split costs the most, ₹1,927.48, but it is the only one with a real safety margin: 20 g of each oil left, enough for another candle and a test pot. It is also the only layout that pays no 15 g premium at all.

Why not ten scents of two? It is tempting: ten scents sounds like a range. But two candles per scent is one to burn and one to give away. You learn whether you like the scent, but not whether other people do. And ten scents means ten 50 g bottles (32 g needed, 50 g bought) with 18 g of each left over, or 180 g of oil in odd bottles on your shelf. For ten scents, test at 15 g first. 10 Fragrance Oil Combo for Candle Making plans a ten-oil combo properly.
The CSI principle
Count the candles, then buy the bottles.
Twenty candles at 16 g is 320 g of oil. Every sensible starter pack is some split of that number. Decide the split first, and the right bottle sizes almost choose themselves.

The 65 g trick, oil by oil

Four candles need 64 g. CSI's two smallest sizes add up to 65 g. That is the whole trick.

For oils that list both a 15 g and a 50 g in stock, one of each covers four 200 g candles at 8% with a gram to spare. That is usually cheaper than buying the 100 g and leaving 36 g unused. Here is the comparison for the five scents in the plan, and a third option, two 15 g bottles plus the 50 g, for anyone who wants five candles.

Five scents · every combination that reaches four or five candles · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
50 g + 15 g against 100 g
Oil 15 g 50 g 50 g + 15 g (65 g) 50 g + 2 × 15 g (80 g) 100 g
Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹104.00 ₹270.00 ₹374.00 ₹478.00 ₹500.00
Apple Cinnamon ₹93.22 ₹237.18 ₹330.40 ₹423.62 ₹474.36
Mango Coconut ₹93.22 ₹250.00 ₹343.22 ₹436.44 ₹500.00
Woody Oud ₹93.22 ₹271.40 ₹364.62 ₹457.84 ₹453.12
Bergamot Amber ₹105.02 ₹280.00 ₹385.02 ₹490.04 ₹560.00

For four candles, 50 g + 15 g is the cheapest route for all five oils. For five candles, the answer changes oil by oil. Japanese Cherry Blossom, Apple Cinnamon, Mango Coconut and Bergamot Amber are cheaper as 50 g + two 15 g than as a 100 g, though the 100 g leaves you 20 g spare. Woody Oud is the exception: its 100 g, at ₹453.12, is cheaper than 50 g + two 15 g (₹457.84) and gives you 20 g more. The reason is that Woody Oud's price per gram falls from ₹5.43 at 50 g to ₹4.53 at 100 g, a bigger step than most oils make.

Check the per-gram step before you choose
Across the catalogue, 50 g and 100 g are priced the same per gram for most oils: 52 of 86 are within 1%. For those, the 65 g trick wins whenever you need exactly four candles. For the oils where 100 g is noticeably cheaper per gram than 50 g, such as Woody Oud, Fresh Strawberries or British Rose, the 100 g often wins once you need five. Divide before you decide.

The oil cost that ends up in each candle is what matters for pricing. Here it is for all five scents, both at the 65 g purchase price (what you actually pay for this first batch) and at the 50 g rate (what the oil is worth per gram once you reorder at 50 g or 100 g).

200 g candle · 8% · wax ₹0.60/g · wick ₹5.90 · jar ₹70.80
Material cost of one candle in the first batch
Oil Oil per candle (65 g bought, 4 candles) Material cost this batch Material cost at the 50 g rate
Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹93.50 ₹280.42 ₹273.32
Apple Cinnamon ₹82.60 ₹269.52 ₹262.81
Mango Coconut ₹85.81 ₹272.72 ₹266.92
Woody Oud ₹91.16 ₹278.07 ₹273.76
Bergamot Amber ₹96.25 ₹283.17 ₹276.52

The difference between the two columns is the 15 g premium, spread over four candles: between ₹4.31 and ₹7.10 a candle. That is the price of starting small. Material cost here is oil, 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹110.22), one Eco Thin C1 wick and one White Matte Glass Jar. It excludes labour, packaging, freight and GST.

The whole 20-candle pack

Oil is only part of the first order. Here is everything the 20 candles use, from the same store, with each line rounded up to a whole listed pack.

Oil and wax: CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026 · wicks and jars: verified 10 September 2026
The first-20 pack, line by line
Line What to buy Needed Bought Line total
Fragrance oil Five scents, 50 g + 15 g each 320 g 325 g ₹1,797.26
Wax Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg × 4 3,680 g (about 3,864 g with 5%) 4,000 g ₹2,396.00
Wicks Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1, pack of 50 20 50 ₹295.00
Jars White Matte Glass Jar, pack of 5 × 4 20 20 ₹1,416.00
Pack total ₹5,904.26
Optional tools Wick Centering Device (5), Weighing Scale, Pen Thermometer ₹826.00
Pack with tools ₹6,730.26

A few choices in that bill are worth explaining. The wax is four 1 kg bags rather than one 5 kg bag. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹599.00 a kilo at 1 kg and at 5 kg, so the 5 kg bag (₹2,995.00) buys nothing but an extra kilo you may not use yet. If you prefer Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilo, four 1 kg bags cost ₹2,029.60, which saves ₹366.40; it is rated up to 10% fragrance load, which covers 8%. The wicks are a pack of 50, not two packs of 10, because the spare 30 are what you use for test pots and re-pours. The jars are exactly 20.

Divided across 20 candles, the pack works out at ₹295.21 a candle, a little more than the material cost in the table above because you buy 320 g of wax and 30 wicks you do not use in this batch. They carry forward. If you are also buying tools, Candle Fragrance Oil Starter Kit in India prices a full starter bill including a scale and thermometer.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The easy advice for us would be to tell a beginner to buy 100 g of each oil "to be safe". For four candles per scent it is the wrong buy: you pay between ₹88.50 and ₹174.98 more per scent (see the table above) and keep 36 g of oil you have no plan for. Buy the 50 g + 15 g, pour your four candles, and spend that money on 100 g of the scent people actually ask for. We would rather sell you the reorder than the leftover.
Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. If your first 20 candles are festive gifts, a pour this week leaves time for a two-week cure and a round of feedback before the festive rush. Send CSI the pack list and it will be checked for stock and quoted as one order, with a GST invoice on request.

Using the pack: test, then sell

A starter pack only earns its cost if the 20 candles teach you something. Pour them in an order that lets them.

1
Pour one candle of each scent firstFive candles, one per scent, poured at 16 g of oil in 184 g of wax. Weigh the oil every time; do not pour by eye. Keep a note of the date, the wax temperature when you added the oil, and the pour temperature.
2
Cure, then burn them yourselfSoy candles usually improve with a longer cure. Burn each one for a few hours at a time, noting the melt pool, the flame and how far the scent travels. These five are your test candles, not your products.
3
Fix the wick before you blame the oilIf a candle tunnels or smokes, it is usually the wick size for that jar, not the fragrance. Use the spare wicks from the 50-pack to re-test. Fragrance Oil Testing Kit for Candle Makers covers a simple testing routine.
4
Pour the remaining fifteenThree more candles of each scent, with any wick change you made. Label every jar with the scent and the date.
5
Give them to people who will be honestFriends who buy candles, colleagues, a local shop owner. Ask two questions: would you buy this, and at what price? Write the answers down by scent.
6
Decide which scents move to 100 gUsually one or two scents stand out. Those become your first 100 g reorders. The rest you either drop or re-test later.

Here are the two oils from the plan that show the two sizing decisions most clearly.

1
Floral · 65 g trick works cleanly
Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Oil
A soft floral that sits in the middle of the price range. Its 50 g and 15 g together cost ₹374.00 for four candles, against ₹500.00 for the 100 g. When it earns a reorder, the 100 g is ₹5.00 a gram and the 1 kg ₹4.84.

Apple Cinnamon Fragrance Oil
The cheapest scent in the five-scent plan at ₹330.40 for 65 g. From 50 g upward it is priced flat at ₹4.74 a gram, so there is no reason to buy bigger than you need until it proves itself.
Pack Price Per gram Candles at 16 g

After candle twenty

The starter pack is not the product. The reorder is.

Once the feedback is in, the second order is easy to plan. Move the winning scents to 100 g, which for most oils costs the same per gram as a kilo and makes 6.25 candles. If Japanese Cherry Blossom and Mango Coconut both do well, 100 g of each costs ₹1,000.00 and makes 12.5 candles. Keep one new scent in each order at 15 g, so your range keeps learning. Complete Candle Fragrance Oil Starter Collection for New Brands sets out a reorder plan for a launch range, and Which Candle Fragrance Oils Should I Always Keep in Stock? discusses which scents are worth keeping in stock.

If you are thinking beyond twenty candles already, the quantity maths is the same, just bigger. How Much Fragrance Oil Do I Need for 100 Candles? works through 100 candles, and I Have ₹5,000 to Buy Fragrance Oils for My New Candle Business — Which Fragrances and Quantities Should I Start With? plans a first ₹5,000 of fragrance for a new business. For combos built around specific goals, Best Fragrance Oil Combo for Beginners focuses on the most forgiving, low-cost oils for beginners, and 5 Fragrance Oil Combo for Candle Making picks one oil from each scent family.

Everything in the pack is on one store. Fragrance Oils for the five scents, Candle Wax for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹599.00 / kg) or CSI 464 (₹507.40 / kg), Candle Wicks for Eco Thin C1 (₹295.00 / 50) and Containers for White Matte Glass Jars (₹354.00 / 5).
Twenty candles is 320 g of oil. Start there, and the bottles take care of themselves.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We do not sell a fragrance starter pack, and this page says so first. It then shows a beginner how to buy the smallest amount of oil that makes 20 real candles, even where that means buying less than a 100 g bottle.

Oil and wax prices on this page come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are not offered. Every total, per-gram figure and per-candle cost is plain arithmetic on those prices, to two decimals, so you can check it.

The 20-candle batch, the 200 g candle, the 8% load and the 5% wax allowance are working assumptions for planning, not a recipe. The 65 g plan leaves only 1 g per scent; if you expect spills or re-pours, step up a size. Frequently asked questions

What is the best fragrance oil starter pack for candle making?
CSI does not sell one, so build it to your first batch. For 20 candles of 200 g at 8%, five scents at 50 g + 15 g each cover four candles per scent. With Japanese Cherry Blossom, Apple Cinnamon, Mango Coconut, Woody Oud and Bergamot Amber the oil costs ₹1,797.26.
How much fragrance oil for 20 candles?
At 200 g per candle: 240 g at 6%, 320 g at 8% and 400 g at 10%. Add 3–5% for pour loss and test burns as a working assumption.
How many candles does 50 g of fragrance oil make?
At 16 g per 200 g candle (8%), 50 g makes 3.12 candles. Add a 15 g bottle and 65 g makes four with 1 g to spare. A 100 g makes 6.25.
How much wax do I need for 20 candles?
184 g per 200 g candle at 8%, so 3,680 g for 20, about 3,864 g with a 5% allowance. Four 1 kg bags of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹2,396.00; the same weight of CSI 464 costs ₹2,029.60.
Should a beginner buy 15 g or 100 g of fragrance oil?
15 g to test a scent you are unsure of, 100 g for a scent you already know you will use. 15 g carries a median 23.1% per-gram premium over 100 g, so do not use it for production. Best Fragrance Oil Combo for Beginners goes further on beginner choices.
What does a candle making starter pack cost in India?
