CSI Wick Buying · 10% to 8%
Taking oil out does not keep the old wick approved: it changes the candle. Re-confirm your current wick at 8%, try the rung below in the same pour, and let monthly volume decide whether the cheaper wick pays back.

Quick answers — read this first
I reduced fragrance from 10% to 8%. Do I need to repeat wick testing? Yes, a short confirm, not a full ladder. Your wick was approved for a 10% candle; an 8% candle burns a different fuel, and less oil can make the same wick burn bigger. Pour three candles on your current wick and three on the rung below it, and burn them to the end.

Why the rung below? Because the change may have earned you a cheaper wick. In our worked example (British Rose, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, a 200 ml Salsa Amber jar) the current wick is C2; if C1 now passes, every candle costs ₹3.54 less in wick, in every pack size.

What do I buy? An Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock), 100 g of British Rose (₹342.20) and 1 kg of Chunks (₹599.00) if you are short: ₹1,059.20, C2 from your stock.

Is the C1 arm worth it? Its three candles, jars included, cost ₹574.88. At ₹3.54 a candle that is repaid after 163 candles on C1: 1.6 months at 100 a month, 0.8 at 200. If you will make fewer than 163 more of this candle, skip the C1 arm.
The short answer
Retest? A confirm, yes: your 10% approval does not cover an 8% candle, and the safer-sounding direction can still change the burn.
Order: current wick × 3 (C2, from stock) + one rung down × 3 (C1, 20-pack ₹118.00), 72 g of oil, 828 g of wax, six jars.
Payback: the C1 arm costs ₹574.88; it pays back after 163 candles at ₹3.54 each. The whole six-candle order, ₹1,160.38, after 328.
Then: approve whichever wick finishes all three candles cleanly; if both do, the cheaper one wins on money, the cleaner final third wins on judgement.
When does testing a cheaper wick pay for itself? C1 instead of C2 saves ₹3.54 a candle (flat per wick). Lines: cumulative saving by month if C1 passes at 8%. Worked example: 150 g British Rose in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 200 ml Salsa Amber jar. CSI prices, 1 October 2026. 0 300 600 900 1,200 1,500 1,800 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 months on C1 after approval cumulative saving, rupees C1 arm ₹574.88 whole order ₹1,160.38 50 a month 100 a month 200 a month Open circles: the month the C1 arm is repaid (0.8 at 200 a month, 1.6 at 100, 3.2 at 50). The C2 arm is not optional: a lower load can change how the old wick burns, so it needs its own confirm whatever C1 does. Only the C1 arm is a bet. Test candles costed with their jars; production saving excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. Worked example.
Each line is the cumulative wick saving if C1 replaces C2 after the 10% → 8% change, at three production volumes. The dashed horizontal line is what the three C1 test candles cost, jars included; the solid line is the whole six-candle confirm order. The open circles mark when the C1 arm has paid for itself. The C2 arm is drawn into the whole-order line because it is not optional: the old wick needs re-confirming at the new load whatever C1 does. Worked example at CSI prices on 1 October 2026.
Straight answer
I reduced fragrance from 10% to 8%. Should I repeat wick testing even though the jar and wax have not changed?
Yes, but it is a confirm, not a new ladder. The jar and wax data still stand; the wick approval does not, because it was earned on a 10% candle. Taking 3 g of oil out of every 150 g candle changes the fuel, and a wick that was well matched at 10% can burn hotter or taller at 8% (a tendency, not a certainty). So pour three candles on your current wick to re-confirm it, and three on the rung below, because a lower load may let a cheaper wick pass. In our worked example the current wick is C2, the rung below is C1, and C1 is ₹3.54 a candle cheaper in every pack. The six candles cost ₹1,160.38 with their jars. The C1 arm alone (₹574.88) pays for itself after 163 candles on C1; at 100 candles a month that is about 1.6 months. Approve whichever wick finishes all three candles cleanly to the bottom of the jar.
One line: re-confirm the old wick at 8%, try the rung below alongside it, and let monthly volume tell you whether the cheaper wick was worth testing.
The confirm order: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; 10-pack out of stock on 1 October 2026), British Rose 100 g (₹342.20) and, if you are short, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg (₹599.00). Your C2 and jars from stock. Every item listed is in stock.
Eco C1 — ₹118.00 for 20

Why a lower load still needs a confirm

Less oil sounds like less risk. For the wick, it is a different candle.

Moving a 150 g candle from 10% to 8% takes the oil from 15 g to 12 g, 20% less, and puts 3 g of wax in its place. The fill line does not move. What the wick draws does change. Higher loads commonly make a flame smaller or sootier; take oil out and the same wick may now run a deeper pool or a taller flame, especially in the final third, where heat tends to build. It may also be fine. The only way to know is to burn it: which is why the C2 arm is not optional. The flame-height mechanics are the 6%-to-10% flame post; this page is about what the change lets you buy.

What carries over after 10% → 8%, and what does not
Same jar, same wax, same oil · only the load changed
Evidence Still valid? Purchase consequence
Jar dimensions, fill line, wax behaviour Yes No new jar type, no new wax
Ceiling check Yes, with more room Chunks' 13% and British Rose's 10% both cover 8% easily (8.70% of wax)
C2 approved at 10% No Three C2 at 8%, from stock
"C1 was too small" Only at 10% Three C1 at 8%: the cheaper-wick bet
Throw judgement No Re-judge at 8%; that is a separate decision from the wick

Ceilings are generous here. Chunks' page states "up to 13% fragrance load capacity" and its FAQ "13% of total wax weight"; 10% of the candle was 11.11% of the wax, inside that either way, and 8% is 8.70%. British Rose states "up to 10% soy", so your old candle sat at the oil's own limit. Where the basis of a ceiling really matters (a 10% candle in a wax capped at 10%) is the unscented-versus-10% post. And if you are changing the load across a whole collection rather than one candle, use the collection-wide load-change plan, not this page.

Mistake: assuming a lower load can only make a candle "safer" and carrying on with the 10% wick untested. Why it fails: the old wick now has more wax and less oil to burn; commonly that shows as a bigger flame or a deeper pool late in the jar, exactly where you stopped looking. Fix: three candles on the old wick at 8%, burned to about 1 cm left. If the pool runs deep near the bottom, read the deep-pool-near-the-bottom post before you decide.

The confirm order: two arms, six candles

Three to re-earn the old approval, three to try for a cheaper one. Nothing else changes.

The worked example jar is CSI's 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar, whose page says "Pairs well with C2 Eco Wicks". It gives no diameter, so we make no geometry claim about it; measure your own. Its capacity is 200 ml; candle-maker rules of thumb put wax to the brim at roughly 0.86–0.9 times the water weight (172 g to 180 g), and your fill line sits below the brim, so we use a labelled 150 g fill. Weigh your own fill once and keep it.

One 100 g bottle leaves 28 g after six candles: two candles' worth, not a full re-poured cell. If you want a three-candle re-pour in reserve, add a 50 g (₹554.60 for both, leaving 78 g). Per candle in the test, at the 100 g oil price: C2 ₹133.17, C1 ₹129.63, excluding the jar.

2

5
Watch the final third hardestPool depth (about 0.5–1 cm is a commonly cited target), flame height, carbon on the wick and how close the flame sits to the glass: by eye, or with a non-contact thermometer (CSI lists none), never by touch.
Don't buy the C1 50-pack for the test: it is ₹295.00 for wicks the test does not need, at the same ₹5.90 per wick as the 20-pack. Argued against our own interest: buy the 20 now. If C1 passes and you make about 45 candles a month, the 50-pack is your first production order; if C1 fails, you are left with 17 spare C1 rather than 47.

What this confirm deliberately leaves out

A confirm is the smallest test that can still say no. Everything else stays in the cupboard.

It is tempting to treat any change as a reason to run the whole ladder again. For a load reduction that is money spent on a direction the change does not point in. Less oil does not commonly make a candle need a bigger wick, so the rung above your current one has little to tell you. Here is what each extra arm would cost against what it could change.

Confirm vs bigger tests after 10% → 8% · test prices, jars included
British Rose at ₹3.42/g · Chunks at ₹0.60/g · Salsa Amber at ₹62.00 a jar · all figures declared
Test Candles Consumed What it can tell you Our view
Two candles per arm 4 ₹773.58 Direction, not a decision: one odd candle splits the vote False economy
This confirm: C2 × 3 + C1 × 3 6 ₹1,160.38 Whether the old wick still passes, and whether a cheaper one now does The right size
Add Cotton Braided × 3 +3 +₹593.18 Whether an even bigger wick also works at a lower load: almost never the question Skip; a Cotton Braided 10-pack is ₹120.00 you do not need
Full three-rung re-ladder 9 ₹1,753.55 Everything above, plus noise Only if the jar or wax also changed

Three candles per arm is the floor because one candle can fail for reasons unrelated to the wick (an off-centre tab, a draught, an air pocket), and with three, one odd candle is outvoted. If your jar or wax changed at the same time as the load, this is no longer a confirm: go back to the full three-rung ladder in the cluster hub. And if you have no 10% candles left to compare against, the optional control in step 2 is the cheapest way to see what the change did.

Why not test C1 alone and save the C2 candles?
Because if C1 fails you still have no approval for the product you are pouring tomorrow. The C2 arm is what lets you keep selling while the cheaper wick is on trial. Skip it and a C1 failure leaves you with neither wick confirmed at 8%.

Payback: when the cheaper-wick arm earns its keep

The saving is small per candle and certain once approved. The test is a fixed cost. Volume decides.

Split the confirm order in two. The C2 arm (₹585.50 with jars) is the price of keeping your current product safely approved at 8%; you pay it whatever happens. The C1 arm (₹574.88) is a bet: it costs that whether C1 passes or not, and it only pays back if C1 wins. If it does, each candle saves ₹3.54, flat, in every pack. On top sits the saving you already chose: 3 g less oil per candle is ₹9.20 at the 1 kg price, ₹7.41 net of the wax that replaces it.

Payback of the confirm order if C1 passes · worked examples
Saving = candles × ₹3.54 · C1 arm ₹574.88, whole order ₹1,160.38, jars included · all figures declared
Candles a month Wick saving a month A year C1 arm repaid in Whole order repaid in
50 ₹177.00 ₹2,124.00 3.2 months 6.6 months
100 ₹354.00 ₹4,248.00 1.6 months 3.3 months
200 ₹708.00 ₹8,496.00 0.8 months 1.6 months
500 ₹1,770.00 ₹21,240.00 0.3 months 0.7 months

Read it as a rule of thumb (our judgement): the C1 arm repays once 163 candles have been made on C1. At 100 a month that is a couple of months; at 50 a month about 3.2. So pour it for any line you expect to keep for a season or longer, and skip it for a one-off batch or a line you are about to retire. A C1 that passes can save ₹8,496.00 a year at 200 candles a month. The same logic is how CSI's wick prices work against you in the other direction: going up a rung costs the same ₹3.54 a candle for ever, which is why the 6%-to-9% post asks whether a load rise is worth it at all.

Materials per candle at production prices
10% on C2: ₹136.32. 8% on C2: ₹128.92. 8% on C1: ₹125.38. Oil at ₹3.07/g (1 kg), Chunks at ₹0.60/g. These exclude your jar, labour, freight, packaging and GST; they are worked examples, not quotes.

Reading the result and what each one buys

Four possible outcomes, four different orders. Only one of them needs anything new.

Screen at burn 3, approve only on the full life, three candles out of three: the gates are set out in the cluster hub's approval rule.

Confirm result → purchase (our judgement, labelled)
Three candles per arm, burned to about 1 cm left · production follows only a full-life pass
Result at 8% Decision What you buy next
C1 passes all three; C2 runs a deeper pool or taller flame late Move to C1 C1 by the formula below; C2 stock moves to other lines
Both pass cleanly to the end Your choice: C1 saves ₹3.54 a candle C1 if the final third looks at least as calm as C2; otherwise stay on C2 and buy nothing
C2 passes; C1 rings or drowns Stay on C2 Nothing new; the 17 spare C1 serve lighter oils or 6 cm jars
C2 runs hot late; C1 rings Between rungs at 8% Stop and check centring and session length; then ask us; a different load or oil may sit better on one of them
Mistake: moving production to C1 after one good C1 candle because "it's cheaper". Why it fails: the saving is ₹3.54 a candle; a C1 that drowns in the final third costs you a returned candle and a customer. Fix: all three C1 candles to the end. The saving is the same whether you switch this week or in three weeks. If the cheaper wick also turns a powerful candle into a calmer one, the throw trade-off is the keep-throw, cut-power post.

Switching production to the new wick

An approved switch is a purchasing event: a new SKU in, an old one winding down.

If C1 wins, size the order from production: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), with 5% as our worked-example allowance. At 100 candles a month that is 105 C1 a month: a 100-pack and a 20-pack (₹708.00) or two 50s and a 20 (₹708.00), 120 wicks either way, the same ₹5.90 per wick. The same month on C2 would have been ₹991.20 (₹1,038.40 in packs); on C1 it is ₹619.50, ₹4,460.40 a year less.

Reorder point = daily use × your lead time + safety stock: at 3.5 a day, a 14-day order-to-bench time (your figure; CSI dispatches from Pune and publishes no lead times or stock depth) and a week of cover, reorder at about 74 C1. The C2 you still hold (say 80 wicks, ₹755.20) is not waste: move it to lines still approved on C2. How to wind down the larger wick when a product moves down a rung is the wick-down transition post; if this one oil is now the only C1 line in your range, whether to stock C1 for it at all is the odd-one-out SKU post.

Don't jump to the C1 1,000-pack: at 105 a month it is 9.5 months of stock at ₹5.90 a wick, the same as the 20-pack. A month plus safety stock is enough, and it keeps you free to change again. Argued against our own interest: we would rather sell you 120 wicks a month for a year than 1,000 you might not use.

What to buy, and what you already own

Five items, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Candle counts use 12 g of oil per 150 g candle at 8%.

It also claims "Clean burning with minimal soot" (its wording). The text we captured states no melt or pour temperature: follow your existing process, unchanged, so the only variable is the load. 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
Used here because its page names a wick: "Pairs well with C2 Eco Wicks". That is a starting rung for an unstated load and oil, not an approval, and at 8% it is exactly the claim this test checks. The page gives a 200 ml capacity and a 63 mm lug cap but no diameter or height, and its heat wording is general ("withstands the heat of hot wax without cracking or warping"), with no figure. Amber glass hides some discolouration. The text calls the jar "Upcycled", so ask us about batch consistency before testing in it. CSI's clear 200 ml Salsa is a separate listing at a different price.

A six-candle confirm poured in the first days of October, cured and burned in daily 3–4 hour sessions, can finish before then if nothing needs re-pouring; if it does not finish, pour Diwali stock on the wick you already have approved at a load you have already approved, not on a half-read confirm. The CSI principle
A load change down is still a change.
Re-confirm the wick you have at the new load, try the rung below in the same pour, and let your monthly volume decide whether the cheaper wick was worth the three candles.

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, wax, oil and jars named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to move to our cheaper wick if it passes, to buy the 20-pack rather than the 50 for the test, and that bigger wick packs save nothing per wick.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged where it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Wax, oil, jar and wick wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, including the Salsa jar's dimensions and the Chunks' temperatures, we say so.

The 150 g fill, the confirm design, the payback thresholds, the 5% allowance, the volumes and the 14-day lead time are our judgement or worked examples; pool-depth and flame figures are commonly cited rules of thumb, not CSI data; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to retest my wick if I lower the fragrance load?
A short confirm, yes. Less oil changes the fuel, and the same wick can burn hotter or deeper at a lower load. Three candles on your current wick at the new load, burned to the end, re-earn the approval.
Can I use a smaller wick if I use less fragrance?
Sometimes. A lower load can let the next wick down pass, which is why the confirm adds three candles on the rung below. With CSI wicks, C1 instead of C2 saves ₹3.54 a candle in every pack size, but only after all three C1 candles finish cleanly.
How much fragrance is 8% in a 150 g candle?
12 g of oil and 138 g of wax, with load as a percentage of total candle weight. At 10% it was 15 g of oil and 135 g of wax.
Is it worth retesting to save a few rupees on wicks?
It depends on volume. The three-candle C1 arm costs ₹574.88 with jars and pays back after 163 candles at ₹3.54 each: about 1.6 months at 100 candles a month, 3.2 at 50.
What wick goes with the 200 ml Salsa jar?
The coloured 200 ml Salsa pages say "Pairs well with C2 Eco Wicks". Treat that as a starting rung, not an approval: the right wick depends on your wax, oil and load, so test C2 and the rung either side.
Do bigger packs of C1 wicks cost less per wick?
No. Eco C1 is ₹5.90 a wick in every in-stock pack (20 to 1,000); C2 is ₹9.44. A bigger pack only changes the cash you lay out.
Your 10% → 8% confirm order
Eco C1 20 + British Rose 100 g + Chunks 1 kg = ₹1,059.20, with your C2 from stock.
Three candles on the old wick, three on the rung below, one pour, burned to the end. Approve the wick that passes all three; if both pass, the cheaper one pays for the test. Send us your setup on WhatsApp and we will check the order before you pay.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance changing wick behaviour (5521–5540). It covers what to retest after a 10% → 8% load reduction in the same jar and wax: why the old approval lapses, a six-candle confirm order (current wick and one rung down), the payback of the cheaper-wick arm against monthly volume, a result-to-purchase table and the switch to production.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — British Rose Fragrance Oil, Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for Jar / Container Candles. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Sakshi Jain, Kaushiki Satarkar, Arshad Shaikh, Jinal Patel. Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 10% = 15 g + 135 g; at 8% = 12 g + 138 g). Ceilings as the pages state (Chunks up to 13%, FAQ "13% of total wax weight"; British Rose up to 10% soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. The 150 g fill in a 200 ml jar, the 0.86–0.9 conversion (a rule of thumb), the confirm design, payback thresholds, 5% allowance, volumes and lead time are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST; test-candle costs include jars where stated. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
