CSI Wick Buying · One Jar Diameter
Standardising on one jar shrinks the wick shelf, but not for the reason most makers expect. CSI's tabbed wicks are flat per wick, so the saving is fewer builds and fewer safety floors, and fragrance still needs two rungs.
3 → 2
wick SKUs before and after standardising four jars into the 150 g Clear Glass Jar (worked example) · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Will standardising on one jar diameter cut the wick sizes I stock? Usually by one or two, not more. CSI sells three sized, tabbed wicks (Eco C1, Eco C2, Cotton Braided), so a multi-jar business buying them stocks at most three tabbed SKUs to begin with. In our worked example, four jars and six wick builds on three SKUs become one jar, two builds and two SKUs.

Where is the saving, then? In stock you no longer have to hold, not in price. Safety stock falls from ₹2,211.88 to ₹1,534.00 (worked example), mostly because a low-volume SKU's minimum floor disappears. Average wick stock held falls by about ₹1,191.28.

Does a bigger, simpler order get a lower per-wick price? No. Eco C1 is ₹5.90 and Eco C2 ₹9.44 a wick in every pack from 20 to 1,000, Cotton Braided ₹12.00. Pack size changes cash on the shelf, not unit cost.

Can one diameter run on one wick? Rarely. Fragrance still sets the rung: in the worked example light oils approve on C1 and heavy oils on C2 in the same 150 g jar. Standardising the jar cannot standardise the oils.
The short answer
SKUs: 3 → 2 in the worked example (four jars → the 150 g Clear Glass Jar); builds 6 → 2; wicks a month 675 → 600, because double-wicked 10 cm candles go.
Money: safety stock ₹2,211.88 → ₹1,534.00; average stock held down ₹1,191.28; per-wick prices unchanged. The monthly wick spend drops ₹818.30, but that is the product getting smaller, not wicks getting cheaper.
Before you switch: every oil that moves into the standard jar needs its own screen and full-life pass on its group's wick. Worked example: four oils × three candles, ₹4,195.10 with wicks from stock.
After: order by formula; the C2 500-pack (₹4,720.00) becomes roughly a month plus safety stock, the same ₹9.44 a wick as the 10-pack.
What one jar does to the wick shelf: lower peaks, a lower floor Idealised: steady use, each monthly order lands as stock reaches its safety level. Worked example, 600 candles a month; safety = 10 days of use or 50 wicks per SKU; CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. Wick value only. 0 3,000 6,000 9,000 month 1 month 2 month 3 rupees peak before: ₹8,147.48 → after: ₹6,442.80 → safety floors: before ₹2,211.88 (solid grey line), after ₹1,534.00 (dotted line) before: 4 jars, 3 SKUs, average held ₹5,179.68 after: 1 jar, 2 SKUs, average ₹3,988.40 Jars 4 → 1 Wick builds 6 → 2 Wick SKUs 3 → 2 Wicks a month 675 → 600 Per-wick price same → same C1 stays ₹5.90 and C2 ₹9.44 a wick in every pack. The shelf shrinks because builds and safety floors disappear, not because wicks got cheaper. Excludes jars, oil, wax, labour, freight, packaging and GST.
An idealised wick shelf over three months. Each tooth is a month: the order lands, stock falls with use, and the next order lands at the safety floor. After standardising, both the peak and the floor drop: ₹8,147.48 → ₹6,442.80 at the peak, ₹2,211.88 → ₹1,534.00 at the floor. The count strip shows why: one jar, two builds, two SKUs. The per-wick price is the same before and after. Worked example at CSI live prices on 1 October 2026; wick value only.
Straight answer
I want to standardise my candle business around one jar diameter. Can that significantly reduce the number of wick sizes I need to stock?
It reduces them, but rarely "significantly" when you buy from CSI, because the starting number is already small: CSI's tabbed wicks are Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided, plus pairs of C1 or C2, so a four-jar business on CSI wicks stocks at most three sized, tabbed SKUs to begin with (the one wooden-wick listing aside). In our worked example (Black Shiny 6 cm, the 150 g Clear Glass Jar, your own 8.5 cm jar and the Apothecary 10 cm, 600 candles a month), moving everything into the 150 g jar takes wick SKUs from 3 to 2 and wick builds from 6 to 2. The money saving is in what you hold, not what you pay: safety stock falls from ₹2,211.88 to ₹1,534.00, mostly because Cotton Braided's minimum stock floor disappears, and the price per wick does not change, since C1, C2 and Cotton Braided are flat per wick in every pack. And one diameter still needs two wicks, because heavy oils commonly need a step up from light ones. The real case for standardising is simpler ordering and fewer approvals to maintain; the wick shelf is a small part of it.
One line: one jar turns three wick SKUs into two and six approvals into two; it does not make a single wick cheaper.
The standard jar and its two wicks: Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) (₹944.00 for 10, ₹1,888.00 for 20), Eco C1 (from ₹118.00 for 20; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) and Eco C2 (from ₹94.40 for 10). Every other size in stock on 1 October 2026.

The before-and-after stock sheet

Count SKUs, builds and floors before you count savings. The answer is in the counting.

A worked example makes the trade visible. The business pours 600 candles a month across four jars and two oil groups, light (florals, herbals, citrus) and heavy (vanilla, coffee, oud, resins). The approved builds below are illustrative test results, chosen to show what standardising does to stock; they are not the wicks these jars need in your wax. The 8.5 cm jar is your own: CSI lists no jar at 8.5 cm.

Before · four jars, six builds · worked example, a month
Pool area on assumed inside diameters (0.35 cm wall where the page gives an outside figure) · builds illustrative · declared

Total 6 builds · 3 SKUs 600 C1 305 · C2 320 · Cotton Braided 50 = 675

After standardising, all 600 candles go into the 150 g Clear Glass Jar: 300 light-oil candles on C1 and 300 heavy-oil candles on C2 (again illustrative; the migration test below is how you earn those approvals). Here is the stock sheet side by side.

Average wick stock held (idealised) ₹5,179.68 ₹3,988.40
Price per wick C1 ₹5.90 · C2 ₹9.44 · Cotton Braided ₹12.00 unchanged

Monthly packs: before, C1 needs 320.25 (3 × 100 + 2 × 20 = 340), C2 336 (3 × 100 + 2 × 20 = 340) and Cotton Braided 52.5 (50 + 10 = 60); after, each SKU needs 315 (3 × 100 + 20 = 320). All of it excludes jars, oil, wax, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Whether the jar side of the business (lids, fills, labels, cartons) simplifies too is complexity arithmetic, worked through in the one-8 cm-jar complexity post; this page stays on the wick shelf.

Why the per-wick price does not move

We would like to tell you a simpler shelf means cheaper wicks. Our own price list says otherwise.

Every tabbed wick in the worked example is priced flat per wick across packs: Eco C1 ₹5.90 from the 20-pack to the 1,000-pack (the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026), Eco C2 ₹9.44 from the 10-pack to the 1,000-pack, Cotton Braided ₹12.00 from 10 to 1,000. Consolidating volume onto fewer SKUs lets you buy bigger packs, and bigger packs cost exactly what the same count costs in small ones.

So the monthly wick spend falling from ₹5,420.30 to ₹4,602.00 (₹818.30 a month) needs reading carefully. None of it is price. It comes from builds: 75 Apothecary candles on two C2 (₹18.88 of wick each) become single-wick 150 g candles, and the Cotton Braided build disappears. Average wick cost per candle goes from ₹9.03 to ₹7.67 because the candle is smaller, not because the wick got cheaper. You are also selling less wax and oil per candle; compare products like for like before you call that a saving.

Mistake: standardising "to get bulk pricing on wicks". Why it fails: there is no bulk price on C1, C2 or Cotton Braided at CSI; the 500-pack is the 10-pack multiplied. Fix: standardise for the reasons that hold up (fewer approvals, fewer safety floors, one order rhythm), and if per-unit price matters, ask us on WhatsApp about volume, rather than assuming the pack list contains a discount. Argued against our own interest: buying the 1,000-pack after standardising earns you nothing per wick.

The alternative route to fewer wicks keeps several jars but chooses them at one diameter band, so capacity changes with height rather than width; that business case is the similar-diameters post. And if you would rather keep your jars and trim wicks instead, the audit for consolidating SKUs without forcing oils onto the wrong wick is the SKU-reduction audit.

Safety stock: where the real saving sits

Safety stock is the cushion you keep for a late delivery or a busy week. The worked example uses a simple rule (our judgement): ten days of use per SKU, but never fewer than 50 wicks, enough for a production batch and a retest. That floor is where small SKUs cost you. Cotton Braided at 50 a month needs only 17 wicks of cover by the ten-day rule, but the floor holds 50; ₹396.00 of Cotton Braided sits on the shelf only because the SKU exists.

Safety stock by SKU · before vs after · worked example
max(10 days of use rounded up, 50 wicks) per SKU · flat per-wick prices · declared
SKU Before: wicks Before: value After: wicks After: value
Eco C1 102 ₹601.80 100 ₹590.00
Eco C2 107 ₹1,010.08 100 ₹944.00
Cotton Braided 50 (floor) ₹600.00 dropped none
Total 259 ₹2,211.88 200 ₹1,534.00

The release is ₹677.88, and the biggest single piece is Cotton Braided's floor. Days-based safety stock barely moves when total volume stays at 600 candles: C1 and C2 simply carry what Cotton Braided used to. That is the honest shape of the saving: fewer floors, not less cover. Add the order cycle and average wick stock held falls from about ₹5,179.68 to ₹3,988.40, roughly ₹1,191.28 less cash sitting in wicks. Real, and small next to what the same 600 candles hold in oil and wax.

The saving that does not show in rupees
Six approved builds are six things that can drift: a new jar batch, a new oil lot or a hot summer can send any of them back to the ladder. Two builds are two. The test budget you no longer spend re-confirming four jars is usually worth more than the safety stock, and it is the part of standardising nobody puts on a spreadsheet.

One jar, still two wicks: fragrance sets the floor

A standard jar fixes the diameter. It does nothing to the oil.

Even in a single jar, the wick is chosen for jar × wax × oil × load, and the oil part does not go away. Heavier and vanillin-rich oils (vanilla, coffee, oud, some resins) are commonly linked to needing a larger wick or to more carbon on the wick than light florals and herbals: a tendency, not a law, and CSI publishes no wick data for any oil. That is why the worked example ends at two SKUs, not one.

How few can you get to? One wick for every oil happens only when your oils behave alike in that jar, and the only way to know is to screen them. Two behaviour groups is the common landing point; a third appears when one oil fails both group wicks, and in a 150 g jar the next step above C2 is Cotton Braided, whose page describes it for "large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", a long way above a 6.3 cm inside diameter. If a very heavy oil needs more than C2 here, the honest options are a lower load within the page range, a different oil, or a wick CSI does not list: ask us on WhatsApp before you add a SKU for one oil. How to run a house standard with two groups and an admission test for new oils is the behaviour-group standard post.

How many wicks one jar can still need
After standardising on one diameter · our judgement, labelled
Your oils in the standard jar Wick SKUs What it costs to know
All behave alike on one wick 1 Every oil screened on that wick, three candles to full life for each representative
Light and heavy groups split (worked example) 2 Group representatives bracketed; each other oil admitted by screen
One oil fails both group wicks 3, or drop the oil A third bracket for one oil; weigh its sales against a new SKU and floor

Which oils in a range need their own build is the subject of the next cluster: five fragrances in one 200 g jar and lavender fine, vanilla tunnels cover exactly that question.

The migration test order

Standardising is a jar change for every oil that used to live in another jar, and each of those oils needs its own approval in the standard jar. In the worked example the business sells ten oils; six were already approved in the 150 g jar, four move in from the other jars: two light (Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lemongrass and Lime) and two heavy (Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, Palo Santo). Group assignments are our judgement until the screens confirm them.

Total cash 12 candles ₹4,195.10 with wicks from stock; ₹4,407.50 from nothing

The 14 g left in each 50 g bottle is one more candle, not a re-pour of three; if a screen needs repeating, buy another 50 g of that oil only. Notice what the test does not include: a full ladder for each oil. The group wicks were already bracketed in this jar when its first oils were approved, so new oils are admitted by screen on the group wick and a full-life pass; an oil that fails the screen gets its own bracket. That is the two-group standard doing its job.

1
List oils by where they live nowAlready approved in the standard jar, or moving in. Only the movers need test candles.
2
Assign each mover a groupLight or heavy, on its stated notes and page details (vanillin, base notes). This is a starting guess; the screen corrects it.
3
Pour three candles per mover on the group wickSame wax bag, load and pour method. CSI 464 states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; the jar states "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C", so pour at 80–85°C.
4
Cure, then screen at burn 3The Eucalyptus Spearmint page says "Cure time is 48-72 hours for soy wax"; many makers wait about a week. Ring at the glass, flame, soot, carbon.
5
Burn the passes to about 1 cm leftAll three candles of an oil must finish the full life. Judge flame distance from the glass by eye near the bottom; never touch the glass to judge heat.
6
Retire the old jars' stock lastRun down Cotton Braided and the old jars only after every mover has passed. Until then, the old builds are your fallback.
Don't buy yet: not the C2 500-pack and not a 20-pack of standard jars "for production", until the four movers pass. If Coffee Vanilla Tobacco or Palo Santo fails C2 in the 150 g jar, your heavy group may need a different answer, and a pre-bought 500 C2 waits on a decision you have not made. Argued against our own interest: the migration test needs one pack of jars and four 50 g bottles; the bigger orders come after.

After the switch: the production order and the 500-pack question

Once every oil has an approval in the standard jar, production follows the formula from the cluster hub: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), here 300 × 1 × 1.05 = 315 of each SKU, rounded to 3 × 100 + 20 = 320 (₹1,888.00 for C1, ₹3,020.80 for C2).

Now the C2 500-pack. At ₹4,720.00 it is ₹9.44 a wick, exactly the 10-pack's price. Before standardising, C2 ran at 320 a month split across three jars, and a 500-pack was 1.6 months of a wick whose demand depended on three products. After, C2 runs at 300 a month on one product; a month plus safety stock is 415 wicks, so the 500-pack is roughly a month plus cover (1.7 months of use). That is the first point at which it is a defensible buy: one pack instead of four, and no price penalty for it. It is still not a saving, and it is still exposed to change: a new jar batch or a different heavy oil re-opens the approval.

Reorder point for C2 after the switch: 10 a day × a 10-day order-to-bench time + 100 safety stock = reorder at 200 wicks. The 10 days is your figure: CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp before a big run. Per-SKU reorder points at higher volume are the 500-candles-a-month reorder post; a business still running several jars should read the three-jar stock map instead, because there the stock is the union of approvals, not one jar's two wicks.

Don't buy the 1,000-pack because you only stock two wicks now: at 300 a month the C2 1,000-pack (₹9,440.00) is more than three months of stock at the same ₹9.44 a wick. Simpler ordering is the point of standardising; three months of one SKU on the shelf is the opposite of simple when the next approval change comes. Argued against our own interest: a month plus safety stock, reordered on the formula, is enough.

If, after standardising, a supplier change or a "slightly different" new jar batch arrives, the narrower jar range makes it cheap to check: two builds to confirm, not six. A jar that turns out 5 mm wider gets a two-arm confirm order; a wick from another supplier is a new wick, and the side-by-side it needs is the supplier-switch post.

What to buy to standardise, and what to skip

Five items: the standard jar, its two wicks, two of the four oils moving in, and the wax the approvals are made in, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil counts use 12 g per 150 g candle and 16 g per 200 g candle.

Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
The worked example's standard jar, and a reasonable one to standardise on because a single listing covers a 150 g candle with a stated heat limit. The page gives "Height 8cm, outer diameter 7cm", a base diameter of about 6.5 cm, "150g fill capacity" and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C". On our 0.35 cm wall, that is about 6.3 cm inside at the rim (31.17 cm²) and 5.8 cm near the base (26.42 cm²): a slight taper, so test through the full life. With CSI 464 (pour 80–90°C) pour at 80–85°C in this jar; the lower limit governs. Limitation: the page calls it both "curved silhouette" and straight-sided in different places; measure your batch.

After standardising, the worked example runs light oils on C1 and heavy oils on C2: two SKUs, both on this listing. The page describes "natural fibers like cotton and paper" that "pair perfectly with soy wax" and, in the text we captured, states no length, width or jar range, so the split comes from tests in your jar. Stock on 1 October 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock; every other pack is in. Per wick: ₹5.90 C1 and ₹9.44 C2 at every pack size, including the 500. Argued against our own interest: standardising does not earn you a lower per-wick price from us; it earns you fewer packs to count.

One of the four oils in the migration test, standing in for the heavy group. The page lists "fresh brewed coffee and cocoa top notes, a vanilla cream and tonka bean heart, and a tobacco leaf, amber, and soft musk base" and states "Recommended load - candles: 7-9% soy wax (strong throw at lower loads)", so 8% sits inside its range and CSI 464's 10% (8.70% of wax weight). It is priced close to flat per gram (₹8.98 at 50 g, ₹8.60 at 1 kg) and has no 15 g size, so the 50 g is the smallest test bottle. Limitation: coffee and vanilla notes are commonly linked to needing a wick step, a tendency; the screen on C2 decides.

The page says "Recommended fragrance load up to 10% for soy wax, up to 6% for paraffin", "No vanillin - zero risk of discoloration" (the page's claim; vanillin is one cause of discolouration, not the only one) and "Cure time is 48-72 hours for soy wax". Every size is in stock on 1 October 2026, and per gram it falls from ₹4.56 at 15 g to ₹3.07 at 1 kg. Limitation: CSI publishes no wick data for any oil; the light/heavy grouping is our judgement until your C1 screen confirms it.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
Standardise the wax with the jar, or the jar standard means little. The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; price is flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg, so the 10 kg is no cheaper per gram than the 1 kg, only cheaper than the 500 g. Every approval in the standard jar is an approval in this wax; a later wax change re-opens them.
Pack Price Per unit What it covers here
1 kg ₹507.40 ₹0.51 per g two bags cover the migration test with 344 g left
5 kg · 10 kg ₹2,537.00 · ₹5,074.00 ₹0.51 per g production; flat per gram from 1 kg
500 g ₹260.00 ₹0.52 per g dearer per gram than 1 kg

Skip once you have standardised: Cotton Braided Wicks (₹120.00 for 10) unless a heavy oil fails C2 in the standard jar, since its page describes it for jars "exceeding 8 cm"; the Steel Wick Holder (₹250.00 for 5), with no double-wicked candles left; and Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10), a third material, not a third rung.

Standardising before Diwali (8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026)? Keep the old jars running through the season and migrate after it: four movers need a cure and a full life each, and a mid-season switch puts every one of them on a deadline. If you migrate now, send us your monthly candles per group and we will quote jars and wicks together with a GST invoice and dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Standardise for fewer approvals, not cheaper wicks.
One jar took the worked example from six builds to two and three SKUs to two, and released ₹677.88 of safety stock. The price per wick did not move, and fragrance still needed two rungs.
"One jar makes the wick shelf shorter. It does not make the wick list empty."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jar, wicks, oils and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that standardising earns no per-wick discount on our flat-priced tabbed wicks, that it usually removes only one or two wick SKUs, not to buy our 500- or 1,000-packs before the migration test passes, and that we list no jar at 8.5 cm.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Jar, wick, oil and wax wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The four-jar business, the six builds, the oil groups, the 600-candle month, the safety-stock rule (10 days or 50 wicks), the 5% allowance, the 10-day lead time and the 0.35 cm wall are worked examples or our judgement; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Does using one jar size reduce the number of wick sizes I need?
Usually by one or two. In our worked example four jars on three CSI wick SKUs became one jar on two. The jar fixes the diameter; your oils still split into groups that commonly need different wicks.
Will I save money on wicks by standardising my candle jars?
A little, through stock you no longer hold: safety stock fell from ₹2,211.88 to ₹1,534.00 in our example. Not through price: CSI's Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick in every pack.
Can I use one wick for every fragrance if all my candles use the same jar?
Only if every oil passes on it. Heavier oils such as vanilla, coffee and oud commonly need a step up from light florals in the same jar, so two wicks, light and heavy, each approved by full-life tests, is a common landing point (our judgement).
Do I need to retest my fragrances when I switch everything to one jar?
Every oil that was not already approved in that jar, yes: three candles on its group's wick, screened and burned to the end. Oils already approved in the standard jar carry over.
Is a 500-pack of wicks worth buying for a small candle business?
Only when it is roughly a month plus safety stock of an approved wick. It costs the same per wick as the 10-pack, so it saves nothing; it just means fewer packs. In our example that point arrived only after standardising.
Which CSI jar is good to standardise on?
That is a product decision, but the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) is one candidate: a 150 g fill, "outer diameter 7cm" and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" on one listing, ₹944.00 for 10. Measure your batch's inside diameter before you test.
Standardising on one jar
Fewer builds, fewer floors, the same price per wick.
Migrate oil by oil with three-candle screens on their group wicks, approve on the full life, then order two SKUs by formula. Send us your monthly candles per group on WhatsApp and we will quote jars and wicks together.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on jar diameter → wick testing (5501–5520) in the series on wick purchase × jar × wax × fragrance. It covers what standardising on one jar diameter does to wick inventory: SKUs, builds, monthly pack outlay and safety stock before and after, why CSI's flat per-wick pricing means the saving is fewer floors and simpler ordering rather than unit price, why fragrance still sets two rungs, the migration test order, and the production order and C2 500-pack decision after the switch.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram), Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles, Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Soy Pillar Wax (Specially made for Pillar and Designer Candles). Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). Inside diameters assume a 0.35 cm wall on page outside figures; the 8.5 cm jar is the reader's; pool area = π r². The four-jar business, builds and oil groups are illustrative; the safety-stock rule, 5% allowance, 600-candle month, 10-day lead time and the idealised sawtooth (orders land at the safety floor) are worked examples and judgement. Ceilings as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Coffee Vanilla Tobacco 7–9% soy; Eucalyptus Spearmint up to 10% soy): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Costs exclude jars, oil, wax, labour, freight, packaging and GST unless stated. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
