The masculine per-gram ladder, 15 g to 1 kg

Fourteen candle-grade and near-candle-grade masculine oils CSI lists, at every size, divided out to rupees per gram on 24 September 2026. The last column tells you whether the oil page states a candle load; if it does not, you work inside your wax's own ceiling. Three oils in that table are not strictly candle-first listings: Saffron Cedarwood states no candle load, and the Mahogany Teakwood listing is a brand-inspired name (that is CSI's product listing name; the oil is an interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the brand, and the brand stays off your label) even though its page does state "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%". Gilli Mitti is earthy rather than strictly masculine, but we include it as masculine-adjacent because its flat pricing is worth knowing.

Where 1 kg saves money, and where it does not

Sort the ladder by shape and four patterns appear. They are facts about the price list on 24 September 2026; we do not speculate why they are priced that way, and pricing can change, so confirm on WhatsApp before a large order.

Pattern 1 · Steep ladders: bulk genuinely saves

Eucalyptus Spearmint falls from ₹4.56 at 15 g to ₹3.07 at 1 kg, 33% cheaper; bought as twenty 50 g bottles, a kilogram would cost ₹1,180.00 more than the 1 kg. Vetiver falls from ₹7.08 at 50 g to ₹5.80 at 500 g (18.1%), but the 1 kg is out of stock on 24 September 2026, so 500 g is your bulk size for now (ask about the 1 kg). Dark Vanilla Oud falls 11.1% from 50 g to 1 kg, with the 500 g already at the 1 kg price: two 500 g packs cost ₹5,690.00, against ₹5,691.00 for one kilogram.

Pattern 2 · Floor at 100 g: bulk saves nothing past it

Woody Oud drops 16.5% from 50 g to 100 g, then holds at ₹4.53 to 1 kg. Sandalwood drops 7.4% to ₹5.03 at 100 g and holds. White Royal Oud holds at ₹8.10 from 100 g. On these three the only reason to buy a kilogram is convenience: fewer bottles, one batch number. Ask on WhatsApp whether a 1 kg order ships as one container or several.

Pattern 3 · Flat: size changes nothing

The Mahogany Teakwood listing is ₹8.80 per gram at 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg. Gilli Mitti is ₹8.96 from 50 g upward. Palo Santo is ₹6.02 from 50 g upward. For flat oils, buy what you will use in the next two or three months and no more, because the kilogram carries risk without any saving.

Pattern 4 · Inverted: the kilogram costs more

Sage and Cedarwood and Saffron Cedarwood are both ₹2,584.20 for 500 g (₹5.17/g) and ₹6,867.60 for 1 kg (₹6.87/g): the kilogram is 33% dearer per gram. Two 500 g packs cost ₹5,168.40, ₹1,699.20 less than one kilogram. Blue Ocean edges the other way too: ₹4.94 at 50 g, ₹4.96 at 1 kg. Wax has a ladder too. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹0.51 per gram at 1 kg and ₹0.51 at 10 kg: flat. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹0.60 per gram at 1 kg (₹599.00) and ₹0.60 at 10 kg (₹5,999.00): also no saving. Buy wax in the bag size that suits your storage, not for a discount that is not there.

The 1 kg gap: candle-grade against perfume-grade

CSI lists a group of perfume-grade masculine oils, several named after well-known fragrances. Their pages quote usage rates of up to 25% for extrait, 20% for EDP/EDT and 15% for solid perfumes and balms. Those are perfume rates, not candle loads, and none of these pages states a candle load. The listings below use CSI's own product listing names; each oil is CSI's interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with any of the brands named, and none of those names belongs on your candle label.

Two groups hide in that table. The brand-inspired perfume listings sold in 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg are priced flat: the kilogram costs exactly twenty times the 50 g, give or take a rupee. The fine-perfume listings sold from 100 g do fall at 1 kg: the fougère listing is 10.9% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g, and at ₹7.12 it undercuts four candle-grade oils at 1 kg: White Royal Oud, Coffee Vanilla Tobacco, the Mahogany Teakwood listing (by ₹1,680.00 per kilogram) and Gilli Mitti. That is the most surprising number on this page, and the reason to check the ladder rather than assume "perfume-grade means expensive".

Put wax back in and the picture is sharper. Oil plus wax for one 150 g candle at 8%, with CSI 464 at the 10 kg price, is ₹124.40 with Woody Oud, ₹178.98 with the icy aquatic inspired oil and ₹358.69 with the smoky chypre inspired oil. Across 250 candles the icy aquatic premium alone is ₹13,646.40. Jar, wick, labour, freight, packaging and GST come on top of all three.

Six oils to price for bulk

These six are chosen for what their price ladders do, not as a first-order shortlist (that is Buy Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Making). Four candle-grade oils with ladders worth understanding, and two perfume-grade listings that show the two ways perfume-grade is priced. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8%.

When perfume-grade makes sense in a candle

Argued against our own interest: most masculine candle ranges do not need a single perfume-grade oil. The candle-grade oils state a candle load, cost less, and get cheaper with volume. That said, there are four situations where the premium is rational, and one where it never is. 1 · When nothing candle-grade covers the style

Leather is the clear case: CSI's only leather-style oil is perfume-grade, with only 50 g in stock. If leather is essential, you pay ₹160.08 of oil per candle for it. Smoky birch and a certain style of sweet amber are the other gaps where an inspired listing may be the only route.

2 · When your price absorbs it

A rule of thumb we use, and it is judgement, not a law: if the extra oil cost is under about 5% of your retail price, the customer will not feel it. ₹54.59 of extra oil is under 5% of a candle that retails above about ₹1,091.71; ₹234.30 needs a candle above ₹4,685.95. If your candle sells below those figures, the premium comes straight out of your margin.

3 · As an accent over a candle-grade base

Worked example, not a recipe: 9 g Woody Oud plus 3 g of the icy aquatic inspired oil, still 12 g in total in a 150 g candle (8%), costs ₹68.02 of oil at 1 kg prices, only ₹13.65 more than straight Woody Oud. Whether the blend works is for your burn test to decide. Keep the total load inside the lower of your wax ceiling and the candle-grade oil's stated maximum, and remember the perfume-grade page gives no candle figure of its own.

4 · For short runs of a limited edition

Because the inspired listings are flat per gram, a 50 g bottle costs the same per gram as a kilogram. For a 20-candle edition, perfume-grade loses nothing at small volume, while a candle-grade oil bought at 50 g loses its bulk saving. The gap narrows at small runs.

Never · to borrow a brand name

An inspired oil does not give you any right to a perfume's name. Do not put the brand, the fragrance name or "dupe" on your candle, box, listing or ads. CSI's listing names are CSI's product names; your customer-facing name is yours to invent.
