Ten litres of finished diffuser at 20% is eight litres of base — if your blend and base both weigh 1.00 g per ml. They might not, and the difference is three units of 500 ml. Here is the sum, the allowances and the weigh-in that makes it exact.

Lift Base for 100 × 100 ml at 20% with 2 retained, 3 spare and 2% transfer allowance · ₹19,782.00 · 1.00 g/ml example · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much base for 100 × 100 ml at 20%? 8,000 ml for exactly 100 bottles at an example 1.00 g/ml; 18 × 500 ml (₹19,782.00) with allowances.

Why might it be different? If your blend and base densities differ, the base volume moves: 16 to 19 units across 0.95–1.05 g/ml examples. CSI publishes no density — weigh 100 ml of each.

And the oil? 2,142.0 g of Orchard Pear with the same allowances — 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g, ₹8,096.00.

What first? One 500 ml and a four-bottle pilot (₹4,244.00 with tools). See the pilot.
The short answer
Answer: 100 × 100 ml = 10,000 ml; × density × 0.80 ÷ base density = base ml. At an example 1.00 g/ml that is 8,000 ml, or 18 × 500 ml of Lift Base with allowances (₹19,782.00).
Why: The load is a share of the blend's weight, base is sold by volume, and no CSI base or oil has a published density — so the conversion needs your own weigh-in.
Method: Weigh 100 ml of base and 100 ml of a 20% blend, re-run the sum, add retained samples, spares and transfer loss, round up to 500 ml, and pilot one batch-mixed jug against a beaker control.

Straight answer
How much reed diffuser base should I buy to manufacture 100 bottles of 100 ml each at 20% fragrance load?
8,000 ml of base for exactly 100 bottles — if your blend and base both weigh 1.00 g per ml — and 18 units of 500 ml once you add sensible allowances. The sum: 100 × 100 ml = 10,000 ml of finished liquid; × the blend's density = 10,000 g; × 80% = 8,000 g of base; ÷ the base's density = 8,000 ml. Add 2 retained samples, 3 spares and a 2% transfer loss (working assumptions) and you need 8,568.0 ml — 18 × 500 ml of Lift Base, ₹19,782.00. CSI publishes no density for any base or oil, and across 0.95–1.05 g/ml examples the order moves between 16 and 19 units, so buy one 500 ml first, weigh 100 ml of base and of your 20% blend, then order the rest. The oil is 2,142.0 g of Orchard Pear (₹8,096.00).
One line: ten litres finished, eight litres of base by example — weigh your two densities before you order the other seventeen units.
About 18 × 500 ml of base — ₹19,782.00 of Lift Base — for 100 bottles of 100 ml at 20%, with two retained samples, three spares and a 2% transfer allowance, at an example density of 1.00 g/ml. Buy one 500 ml first and measure your densities: the 4-bottle pilot is ₹4,244.00 with scale, beaker and mixer.
See Lift Base

The sum, in four lines

Ten litres of finished diffuser, eight-tenths of it base. The only hard part is the word "litres".

100 bottles × 100 ml is 10,000 ml of finished liquid. At 20% fragrance load, 80% of that is base — but CSI's base pages state the load as a share of the total blend, and the honest way to hit a share exactly is by weight. So the calculation runs through grams: millilitres of finished liquid × the blend's density gives grams; × 0.80 gives grams of base; ÷ the base's own density turns that back into the millilitres you buy. CSI lists Lift Base — and every other base except Pure Performance's 100 g — only in 500 ml, so the last step is rounding up to whole 500 ml units.

Mixing one bottle is the method pillar how to make a 100 ml reed diffuser with fragrance oil and a ready-made base; choosing 20% is the load pillar how much fragrance oil to add; and turning orders like this into a business is the pillar how to start a profitable reed diffuser business in India. This page is only the quantity.

Reader's figures: 100 bottles × 100 ml at 20% · example density 1.00 g/ml for blend and base · CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026
Base for 100 × 100 ml at 20%, step by step
Step Calculation Result
Finished liquid 100 × 100 ml 10,000 ml
Finished weight 10,000 ml × 1.00 g/ml (example) 10,000 g
Base by weight 10,000 g × 80% 8,000 g
Base by volume 8,000 g ÷ 1.00 g/ml (example) 8,000 ml
Allowances (working assumptions) +2 retained, +3 spare bottles, +2% transfer loss 8,568.0 ml
500 ml units 8,568.0 ml ÷ 500, rounded up 18 × 500 ml
Cost 18 × ₹1,099.00 ₹19,782.00
Left over 9000 − 8,568.0 ml 432.0 ml

So the clean answer with example densities is 8,000 ml of base for exactly 100 bottles, and 18 units of 500 ml once you allow for retained samples, spares and what stays behind in jugs and funnels. Those allowances are labelled working assumptions, not standards; change them to match your own process. The 432.0 ml left over is not waste — it is your first retest or the start of the next batch.

The CSI principle
The load is a share of weight. The base is sold by volume. Density is the bridge — and it is yours to measure.
CSI publishes no density for any base or oil. One weigh-in of 100 ml of each, before you order, is the difference between a correct order and a guess.

Why density decides between 15 and 18 units

If your blend and your base weighed exactly the same per millilitre, the volume recipe and the weight recipe would agree, and the answer would be 8,000 ml whatever the density. They do not have to. Fragrance oils vary, and a base can be lighter or heavier than the oil you put into it. Because 20% of the blend is oil, the blend's density sits between the two. The grid below shows what happens to the base you need for exactly 100 bottles when the two densities differ — every figure an example, none a measurement of Lift or Orchard Pear.

Base for exactly 100 × 100 ml at 20% (no allowances) · example densities only
Base millilitres by blend density and base density
Blend density → 0.95 g/ml 1.00 g/ml 1.05 g/ml
Base 0.95 g/ml 8,000 ml · 16 × 500 ml 8,421 ml · 17 × 500 ml 8,842 ml · 18 × 500 ml
Base 1.00 g/ml 7,600 ml · 16 × 500 ml 8,000 ml · 16 × 500 ml 8,400 ml · 17 × 500 ml
Base 1.05 g/ml 7,238 ml · 15 × 500 ml 7,619 ml · 16 × 500 ml 8,000 ml · 16 × 500 ml

Across that grid the same order runs from 7,238 ml to 8,842 ml — 15 to 18 units of 500 ml before allowances, a difference of ₹3,297.00. With allowances the range is 16 to 19 units. That is why this page starts with buying one 500 ml and weighing, not with an order for eighteen. Accounting for density when filling 100 ml bottles from 1 kg goes deeper on the conversion, and formulating by weight rather than volume explains the consistency case.

1
Weigh the empty beakerPut the Silicon Measuring Beaker 250 ml on the Weighing Scale and tare it. Check the scale's display steps — its resolution is not published. A scale that reads whole grams is fine for 100 ml.
2
Measure 100 ml of basePour Lift Base to the 100 ml mark at eye level, on a flat surface. Read the grams. That number ÷ 100 is the base density in g/ml. Pour it back.
3
Mix a 20% test blend and measure 100 ml of itBy weight: 20 g of Orchard Pear and 80 g of base, stirred fully. Pour to the 100 ml mark and weigh. That is your blend density.
4
Re-run the four-line sumFinished ml × blend density × 0.80 ÷ base density = base ml. Add your allowances and round up to 500 ml units.
5
Write both densities on the batch sheetRe-measure when you change base lot, oil or supplier. Choosing a base supplier covers lot-to-lot consistency.
The common mistake: ordering by the volume recipe. A maker reads "80 ml base + 20 ml oil" and orders 8,000 ml of base. If the oil is denser than the base, the finished blend is above 20% oil by weight; if lighter, below. Either way the formula has drifted from the one that was tested. Fix: weigh both densities once, order by weight, and fill by weight.

The full order for 100 bottles

Base is the question, but nobody fills a hundred bottles with base alone. Here is the rest of the order at the same example density and allowances, with Orchard Pear as the example oil — a fruity note, a family the Lift page names — the 120 ml Gold bottle (if you are not using your own 100 ml bottles) and 7 black fibre reeds per bottle.

Total ₹45,560.00
Without CSI bottles ₹33,878.00

At these rates the liquid in each bottle costs ₹250.60 — 20 g of Orchard Pear at the 1 kg rate and 80 g of Lift at the 500 ml rate. The base is the bigger share, which is why getting its quantity right matters more than rounding the oil. Orchard Pear's 1 kg costs ₹3.74 a gram against ₹3.80 in the 100 g, so the oil line is mostly 1 kg bottles. The full per-bottle cost sheet adds bottle and reeds, and the ₹799 margin post shows whether that cost fits your price.

One order or two?
Buying all 18 units at once keeps the base from one dispatch, which makes lot-to-lot differences less likely — though CSI does not publish lot or batch data, so you cannot assume it either. Buying 1 now and 17 after the pilot costs the same in total on listed prices and lets your measured densities set the second order. For quantities beyond what the listed packs make easy, ask on WhatsApp — larger quantities are quoted, and no volume discount is published.

Pilot before the hundred: one 500 ml, four bottles

A formula that worked in a beaker has not yet worked in a ten-litre jug. Prove the scale, not just the blend.

If you have already tested Orchard Pear at 20% in Lift in a few bottles, the open question is no longer whether the formula works — it is whether it still works when you make it ten times bigger, mix it with a different tool and pour it from a different vessel. The pilot answers that with one control and three bottles from a batch-mixed jug, and measures your two densities on the way.

Score the four blind on your written house scale, in the same room, door closed, fan off. P1–P3 pass if they stay as clear as C1 and their grams lost per day and room scores sit within the spread you would accept between two control bottles — decide that spread before you look. If P3 differs from P1, your mixing or filling is uneven; fix the process before you mix ten litres. Scaling a 100 g trial formula to a 10 kg batch and from 100 g trial to 25 kg production cover the scale-up in depth.

Most of the pilot carries forward. The 500 ml counts toward your 18: the pilot uses about 320 ml of base, close to the 400 ml the five allowance bottles were budgeted for, so if the pilot passes, treat its bottles as your retained samples and drop the spares — if you want both, add one unit. The six unused bottles, the spare reeds and the tools go into production.

Mixing ten litres without a machine

CSI's beakers are 100 ml and 250 ml — right for tests, too small for production. For 10,500 g of blend, mix in batches in a clean, dry, lidded glass or compatible container of your own (not a CSI item; check your supplier's compatibility guidance for fragrance materials). With example 1,000 g batches that is 11 batches. Weigh each batch's oil and base separately on the scale, mix with the CSI Pro Mixer (₹349.00), rest 24–48 hours as the base page says, and record a batch code on every bottle.

Example 1,000 g batch at 20% · by weight
One production batch
Ingredient Grams Bottles at 100 g
Orchard Pear 200 g 10
Lift Base 800 g
Batch 1,000 g

Batching has a second benefit: if one batch clouds or smells wrong, you lose ten bottles, not a hundred. Keep a retained sample from every batch — that is what the two retained bottles in the allowance are for. Making 1,000 diffusers a month without expensive machinery takes this further, and a reed diffuser quality-control checklist gives the release checks.

Order the base by weight, buy it in 500 ml units, and measure the two densities before the big order — not after.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The simplest sale for us is 19 units "to be safe". If your densities put you at 16, that is ₹3,297.00 of base sitting in your store room. Buy one, weigh, then order the number your own densities give you.
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. The easy answer is to round up to 19 units. This page shows the order can be as low as 16 depending on two densities CSI does not publish, sells you one 500 ml first so you can weigh them, and prices the pilot as the only true test cost.

Frequently asked questions

How much base do I need for 100 reed diffusers?
For 100 ml each at 20%, 8,000 ml if blend and base both weigh 1.00 g/ml — 18 × 500 ml with retained samples, spares and a 2% transfer allowance. Measure your densities to confirm.
How much fragrance oil for 100 reed diffusers at 20%?
2,000 g for exactly 100 bottles at an example 1.00 g/ml; 2,142.0 g with the same allowances.
Should I measure reed diffuser ingredients by weight or volume?
By weight. CSI's pages state the load as a share of the total blend, and no density is published for any base or oil, so a volume recipe can drift from the tested formula.
How do I find the density of a reed diffuser base?
Tare a measuring beaker on a scale, pour exactly 100 ml of base to the mark, and read the grams. Grams ÷ 100 = g/ml. Do the same for your mixed blend.
Does CSI sell reed diffuser base in 5 litre or 10 kg packs?
No. CSI lists its bases in 500 ml (and Pure Performance also in 100 g). Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount is published.
How much extra base should I buy for filling losses?

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The four-line sum, density grid, allowances, pilot and decision rule apply to any base and oil; the products named are CSI's.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Fragrance oils — CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026: Orchard Pear Fragrance Oil ₹105.02 / 15 g, ₹240.00 / 50 g, ₹380.00 / 100 g, ₹1,870.00 / 500 g, ₹3,738.00 / 1 kg.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the total blend by weight (oil g = batch g × L; base g = batch g × (1 − L)). Reader's figures: 100 bottles, 100 ml each, 20% load. Labelled examples: 1.00 g/ml for blend and base with 0.95/1.05 grid; 2 retained and 3 spare bottles; 2% transfer loss on liquids; 5% allowance in the pilot; 7 reeds per bottle; 1,000 g production batches in a non-CSI vessel. What CSI's base pages state (quoted as claims to test, not CSI test results): every base gives a 10% starting load, 20% recommended, 30% maximum, of total blend, and a 24–48 hour rest before bottling; Pure Performance adds a typical working blend of 75% base + 25% fragrance and the example "for a 100 ml finished diffuser at 25%: 75 ml base + 25 ml fragrance oil" (by volume); Longevity says to avoid light florals, fresh citrus and aquatics, and "if clouding occurs, reduce fragrance percentage and retest". The reed pages give a 20.3 cm length and "for a standard 50–100 ml diffuser bottle, 6–8 reeds"; reed diameter is not published. The bottle listing's text says "50 and 100ml" while its variants are 50 ml and 120 ml; neck size, fill line and any reducer are not published. CSI publishes no composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point or shelf life for any base, no IFRA percentage for any oil, and no diffusion, throw or longevity measurement for any base, oil or reed. Every ml-to-gram conversion here uses a labelled example density with ±5% sensitivity; every grams-per-day figure is a labelled example for the arithmetic, never a measurement. Material costs exclude labour, labels, boxes, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
