How Much Does It Cost to Make a 100 ml Reed Diffuser in India Using Wholesale Base, Fragrance Oil, Glass Bottle and Fibre Reeds?
Share
What moves it most? The oil. The same bottle runs from ₹440.68 with gardenia to ₹506.96 with vanilla bean. Each 5 points of lavender load adds ₹15.12.
Does buying 1 kg of oil help? A little: lavender at the 100 g rate makes the bottle ₹462.04, at the 1 kg rate ₹458.46. Most CSI oils are priced nearly linearly above 100 g.
What is not included? Labels, boxes, courier, labour and GST — CSI does not sell labels or diffuser boxes. See the packed-cost example.
The cost sheet for one 100 ml bottle
Here is the sheet for a specific, buildable product, so every number can be checked: 100 ml of finished liquid, 20% fragrance load (the load every CSI base page recommends), Softness Base — whose page names lavender among its soft florals — Lavender, one 120 ml Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle and 8 white fibre reeds. The base is priced at its only listed size, 500 ml. The oil is priced at the 1 kg rate, because that is the wholesale size a maker producing this bottle in numbers would buy. The reeds are priced from the 50-pack up, where white fibre reeds settle at ₹9.00 each.
This page owns the cost of one bottle. The 20% behind it is the subject of the load pillar how much fragrance oil to add to 100 ml of base, the base behind it of the base pillar which reed diffuser base to buy in India, and the whole journey — base, load, diffusion testing, cost per bottle and wholesale buying — of the business pillar how to start a profitable reed diffuser business in India.
| Line | Quantity | Rate | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lavender (1 kg rate) | 20 g | ₹5.22 per g (₹5,221.00 / 1 kg) | ₹104.42 |
| Softness Base (500 ml) | 80 g = 80 ml at 1.00 g/ml | ₹2.20 per ml (₹1,099.00 / 500 ml) | ₹175.84 |
| Liquid | 100 g | ₹280.26 | |
| Gold bottle 120 ml | 1 | ₹1,062.00 / pack of 10 | ₹106.20 |
| white fibre reeds | 8 | ₹9.00 each from 50 | ₹72.00 |
| CSI materials per bottle | ₹458.46 |
Two things in that table are not CSI prices and you must replace them with your own. First, the density. CSI publishes no density for any base or oil, so the sheet assumes the blend and the base both weigh 1.00 g per ml — an example, not a measurement. Weigh 100 ml of your own blend once in a Silicon Measuring Beaker 100 ml on a Weighing Scale and you have the real figure. If it is 0.95 g/ml, the bottle holds 95 g and costs ₹453.24; at 1.05 g/ml, 105 g and ₹463.68. Second, the fill. "120 ml" is the listing's size, not a fill line; filling it to 100 ml is your choice, and the neck size and fill line are not published.
How the fragrance load moves the cost
The bottle and reeds cost the same whatever you put in them, so the load only moves the liquid line — but it moves it every time. Lavender at the 1 kg rate costs ₹5.22 a gram; Softness Base at the 500 ml rate and the example density costs ₹2.20 a gram. Every gram of base you replace with oil adds the difference, ₹3.02.
| Load | Oil | Base | Liquid | Bottle + reeds | CSI materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15% | 15 g · ₹78.31 | 85 g · ₹186.83 | ₹265.14 | ₹178.20 | ₹443.34 |
| 20% | 20 g · ₹104.42 | 80 g · ₹175.84 | ₹280.26 | ₹178.20 | ₹458.46 |
| 25% | 25 g · ₹130.53 | 75 g · ₹164.85 | ₹295.38 | ₹178.20 | ₹473.57 |
| 30% | 30 g · ₹156.63 | 70 g · ₹153.86 | ₹310.49 | ₹178.20 | ₹488.69 |
So going from 20% to 25% costs ₹15.12 more per bottle, and going to the pages' 30% maximum costs ₹30.23 more. Whether that is worth paying is a performance question, not a cost question: a higher load is only worth its price if it passes the clarity hold and scores clearly higher in a blind room test. The IFRA limit for the specific oil in the reed-diffuser category also applies — reed diffusers are listed under IFRA Category 10A in current amendments, and the lower of that limit and the base's 30% wins. CSI publishes no IFRA percentage for any oil; ask on WhatsApp for lavender's certificate. How much fragrance oil to add to 100 ml of base is the pillar on choosing the load, and the saving per 1,000 bottles from 25% to 20% scales this table up.
A word on the base pages' own example. Pure Performance's page gives "for a 100 ml finished diffuser at 25%: 75 ml base + 25 ml fragrance oil" — a volume recipe. If oil and base had the same density, the volume and weight recipes would match. They are not published, so they may not. Weighing removes the question: 25 g of oil and 75 g of base is exactly 25% by weight, whatever each liquid weighs per ml. Formulating by weight rather than volume explains why that matters batch to batch.
The oil you choose is the biggest swing
| Oil | 1 kg price | Per g | Oil per bottle | CSI materials per bottle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gardenia | ₹4,332.00 | ₹4.33 | ₹86.64 | ₹440.68 |
| Lavender | ₹5,221.00 | ₹5.22 | ₹104.42 | ₹458.46 |
| Raat Ki Rani (Night-Blooming Jasmine) | ₹6,774.00 | ₹6.77 | ₹135.48 | ₹489.52 |
| Vanilla Bean | ₹7,646.00 | ₹7.65 | ₹152.92 | ₹506.96 |
From gardenia to vanilla bean the same bottle moves from ₹440.68 to ₹506.96. Gardenia and Raat Ki Rani are florals; vanilla bean sits closest to the "light gourmand (coconut milk, vanilla milk)" line on the Softness page. None of this says which smells better in a room — we have not published diffusion measurements for any oil — it says which one your price list must carry. If you sell several fragrances at one price, cost the dearest one, not the average. Launching five fragrances: one base or several deals with the range question.
Bulk buying the oil changes less than most makers expect. Lavender is ₹5.40 a gram in the 100 g and ₹5.22 in the 1 kg, so pricing this bottle at the test-size rate gives ₹462.04 rather than ₹458.46 — a ₹3.58 difference. Across CSI's catalogue, above 100 g most oils are priced almost linearly; the reliable step is from 15 g to 50 g or 100 g. Some oils do break at 1 kg — British Rose, Mango Coconut and Honeydew Melon among them — and a few cost fractionally more per gram in the 1 kg. Volume pricing beyond the listed packs is quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
| Cell | Formula | This page's lavender example |
|---|---|---|
| Fill (g) | fill ml × your measured density | 100 × 1.00 = 100 g |
| Oil (g) | fill g × load | 100 g × 20% = 20 g |
| Base (g) | fill g × (1 − load) | 100 g × 80% = 80 g |
| Oil cost | oil g × oil ₹/g | 20 g × ₹5.22 = ₹104.42 |
| Base cost | base g ÷ base density × base ₹/ml | 80 g ÷ 1.00 × ₹2.20 = ₹175.84 |
| Bottle + reeds | bottle ₹ + reeds × reed ₹ | ₹106.20 + 8 × ₹9.00 = ₹178.20 |
| CSI materials | sum | ₹458.46 |
Bottle and reeds: the fixed part of the cost
At ₹178.20, the bottle and reeds are 39% of this sheet. They do not get cheaper with load, and the bottle does not get cheaper with volume: every 120 ml Gold bottle costs ₹106.20 whether you buy one pack of ten or fifty. The listing text says "50 and 100ml" while the variants are 50 ml and 120 ml; quote the variant sizes and ask on WhatsApp whether a reducer is included, because the page does not say.
Reeds are where small choices add up. CSI sells fibre reeds, not rattan, in black and white, 20.3 cm long. White are ₹9.00 each from 50 and black ₹8.00; there is no further break above 50 for either. Switching this bottle to black reeds saves ₹8.00. Dropping from eight reeds to six saves ₹18.00 — but the reed pages say more reeds give stronger throw and faster use, so six reeds may also change how long the bottle lasts and how it smells. That is a test, not a saving. How many fibre reeds to test in a 100 ml bottle and fibre versus rattan reeds cover both.
| Change | Saves per bottle | What else it changes | Test needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| White → black reeds | ₹8.00 | Look only, as far as published data goes | Visual preference; weigh to confirm |
| 8 → 6 reeds | ₹18.00 | Page: fewer reeds = subtler, longer-lasting | Yes — weight loss and room score |
| 120 ml → 50 ml bottle | ₹23.60 on glass alone | A different, smaller product | It is a new SKU, not a saving |
| 25% → 20% load | ₹15.12 | Strength in the room | Yes — blind score at both loads |
From materials cost to a packed bottle
The CSI materials figure is the floor, not the cost of a product. A finished bottle carries a label, usually a box, often tissue or a reed sleeve, and a share of courier and labour. CSI does not sell labels or diffuser boxes, so we will not price them as fact. As a labelled example only: if your printer quotes ₹10.00 a label and your box costs ₹40.00, the packed bottle is ₹508.46 before labour, courier and GST. Use your own quotes.
That packed figure is the number your price has to cover, with room left for margin. How much room is a separate question with its own post: selling a 120 ml diffuser at ₹799 and working back to a maximum raw-material cost. If your base and oil come from somewhere else at per-kg prices, the per-kg liquid-cost method plugs straight into the same sheet, and comparing base prices per kg with density and yield shows how to put two suppliers on the same footing.
| If your bottle loses (example) | Days to empty | Liquid cost per day |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 g per day | 50 | ₹5.61 |
| 3.0 g per day | 33 | ₹8.41 |
| 4.0 g per day | 25 | ₹11.21 |
CSI publishes no evaporation or longevity figure for any base, oil or reed, so the three rates above are arithmetic examples, not predictions. Your own rate comes from weighing the filled bottle, with its reeds, on a fixed schedule. It matters to the cost sheet because a customer pays for days of fragrance, not millilitres: a cheaper bottle that empties twice as fast is not cheaper to own. The most economical fragrance percentage brings throw, life and cost together.
Verify the sheet in three bottles before you print a price
A cost sheet built on an example density and a load you have not tested is a draft. Three bottles turn it into a real one: they measure your density, confirm the 20% blend stays clear, and tell you whether 25% or a different reed colour changes anything you can smell — so you know whether the extra ₹15.12 is worth paying.
| Bottle | Load | Reeds | Compared with | Answers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| V1 — control | 20% | 8 white | — | Is the costed formula clear and acceptable? |
| V2 | 25% | 8 white | V1 | Is +₹15.12 a bottle worth it? |
| V3 | 20% | 8 black | V1 | Does reed colour change anything measurable? |
| Checkpoint | How | Pass |
|---|---|---|
| 0 h — straight after mixing | A clear glass, then the Gold bottle itself against a white card, then a black card | Clear, single phase, no streaks |
| 24 h and 48 h — the pages' rest period | Same cards, same light; tilt once and watch the walls | No haze, layering, droplets or sediment |
| 7 days — labelled working hold | Same cards; photograph beside the 0 h photo | Unchanged from 0 h |
| After a cool night | one night in the coolest room you have (labelled example) | Clear again at room temperature, nothing settled |
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Softness Base | 347 ml incl. 100 ml for the density weigh-in | 1 × 500 ml | ₹1,099.00 |
| Lavender | 68.25 g | 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g | ₹480.04 |
| Gold bottle 120 ml | 3 | 1 × pack of 10 | ₹1,062.00 |
| white fibre reeds | 16 | 1 × pack of 25 | ₹265.00 |
| Black fibre reeds | 8 | 1 × pack of 25 | ₹236.00 |
| Weighing Scale + 100 ml beaker | Density and mixing | 1 + 1 | ₹654.00 |
| Total | ₹3,796.04 | ||
| Without scale and beaker | ₹3,142.04 |
Most of the 500 ml of base and seven of the ten bottles are left for your next round — the kit is not a sunk cost. The 50 g of lavender is the smallest in-stock size that covers the three bottles with a 5% allowance.
The decision rule: what to buy after the sheet
| If this is true | It means | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Measured density differs from 1.00 g/ml | The example sheet is off | Re-cost with your density before quoting any price |
| V1 clear and acceptable, V2 not clearly stronger | 20% is your formula | Price at ₹458.46-ish materials; buy oil for 20% |
| V2 clearly stronger on two days and clear | 25% earns its cost | Price at ₹473.57-ish materials |
| V3 scores like V1 | Reed colour is a looks choice | Pick by look; black saves ₹8.00 |
| Any bottle cloudy | Load or pairing problem | Buy nothing more; step down or retest in another base |
| Your selling price minus packed cost leaves too little | The sheet is fine; the price is not | See the ₹799 margin post before buying stock |
Once the sheet is real, the wholesale order is arithmetic: bottles in tens, reeds in 50s or 500s, base in 500 ml units and oil in the size your sales will use. How much base for 100 bottles of 100 ml at 20% does that sum, 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg of base covers how much to hold, and the section hub starting a reed diffuser business with ₹10,000 shows the whole first purchase. The full business pillar is how to start a profitable reed diffuser business in India.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. A supplier's cost sheet usually flatters the bulk order. This one shows that the 1 kg of lavender saves only a few rupees a bottle against the 100 g, that the bottle does not get cheaper in bigger packs, and that the base's density — which CSI does not publish — must be measured before any price is real.
Diffuser base, reed, bottle and tool prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026. Fragrance-oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026. CSI HyperDiffusion Base™ is out of stock and appears only as such. Every gram split, unit count, per-bottle cost and kit total on this page is computed and shown to two decimals so you can check it.
Bottle counts per arm, hold times, fill volumes, example densities, example grams-per-day figures, scoring scales and allowances are labelled working practices or examples, not industry standards. The 100 ml fill, 1.00 g/ml density, 8 reeds, the ₹10.00 label and ₹40.00 box, and the 2–4 g/day weight-loss rates are labelled examples. Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the total blend by weight (oil g = batch g × L; base g = batch g × (1 − L)). Labelled examples: 100 ml finished liquid in the 120 ml bottle; 1.00 g/ml for blend and base, with 0.95 and 1.05 sensitivity; 8 reeds; label ₹10.00 and box ₹40.00 (non-CSI); 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 g/day for cost per day; 5% allowance in the kit. Per-bottle costs use the 500 ml base rate, the 1 kg oil rate and the 50-plus reed rate. What CSI's base pages state (quoted as claims to test, not CSI test results): every base gives a 10% starting load, 20% recommended, 30% maximum, of total blend, and a 24–48 hour rest before bottling; Pure Performance adds a typical working blend of 75% base + 25% fragrance and the example "for a 100 ml finished diffuser at 25%: 75 ml base + 25 ml fragrance oil" (by volume); Longevity says to avoid light florals, fresh citrus and aquatics, and "if clouding occurs, reduce fragrance percentage and retest". The reed pages give a 20.3 cm length and "for a standard 50–100 ml diffuser bottle, 6–8 reeds"; reed diameter is not published. The bottle listing's text says "50 and 100ml" while its variants are 50 ml and 120 ml; neck size, fill line and any reducer are not published. CSI publishes no composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point or shelf life for any base, no IFRA percentage for any oil, and no diffusion, throw or longevity measurement for any base, oil or reed. Every ml-to-gram conversion here uses a labelled example density with ±5% sensitivity; every grams-per-day figure is a labelled example for the arithmetic, never a measurement. Material costs exclude labour, labels, boxes, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
