How Do I Develop a 100 g Reed Diffuser Trial Formula, Test Several Fragrance Loads, Confirm Safety and Compatibility, Then Scale It to 25 kg for Wholesale Production?
Share
How do I test loads? One 100 g trial per load (10/15/20/25%), each giving a capped clarity bottle, a reeded bottle and a retained sample: ₹2,618.84. Then confirm the lowest passing load: ₹2,703.68.
Why a 1 kg bridge? It measures your density, checks mixing uniformity and validates against a fresh 100 g control before the 25 kg order: ₹4,615.80.
What does 25 kg need? At 20%: 5,000 g oil + 20,000 g base — 40 × 500 ml at an example 1.00 g/ml with no margin, so buy 41. See stage 5.
The whole route on one page
This page is the capstone of the section on fragrance percentages and formula calculations. Each of the nineteen posts before it answers one part of the route in depth; this one puts them in order, with the gate that decides whether you move on. The example throughout is a sandalwood diffuser for wholesale: Sandalwood in Pure Performance Base — the one CSI base sold in 100 g as well as 500 ml, which makes it the natural trial base — scaled to 25 kg. The winning load used for the scale-up arithmetic is 20%, an example; your trials set the real figure.
| Stage | Question it answers | Gate to pass | CSI materials | Owned in depth by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 · Documents | May this oil be used at my intended loads in a reed diffuser? | IFRA certificate in hand; Category 10A limit read; ceiling = lower of 30% and the limit | ₹0 | 7949, 7957 |
| 1 · 100 g trials | Which loads stay clear, and roughly where does the room score pass? | At least one load clear through 7 days and near your standard | ₹2,618.84 | 7942, 7944 |
| 2 · Confirm the load | Is the lowest passing load really enough? | Lowest passing load clears the standard on a second panel; cost per day checked | ₹2,703.68 | 7955, 7959 |
| 3 · Safety & compatibility | Is the product safe to sell and ship as made? | Cool-night and leak checks pass; reeds acceptable; IFRA margin set; labels drafted | ₹0 | 7957 |
| 4 · 1 kg bridge | Does the formula behave the same at batch scale? | Uniform densities; three batch bottles inside the spread of three fresh-control bottles | ₹4,615.80 | 7953, 7958 |
| 5 · 25 kg production | How much do I buy and how do I make it? | Released batch record; base bottles weighed; sub-batches validated | ₹69,094.00 | 7951, 7952 |
Two pillars sit around this route: how much fragrance oil to add to 100 ml of base (this section's pillar) explains the load convention every stage relies on, and which reed diffuser base to buy in India covers choosing the base before stage 1. If you are still deciding between ready-made bases and individual solvents, read Augeo-type bases, DPG and alcohol formulas first.
Stage 0: documents before materials
The cheapest stage is the one most makers skip. Before you weigh a gram, get the oil's IFRA certificate and MSDS and read them. CSI publishes no IFRA percentage for any oil on its product pages, and this page states none; the certificate is the only source. Reed diffusers are listed under Category 10A in current IFRA amendments, as commonly summarised by suppliers' IFRA guides — confirm the category description on your certificate. Your formula's ceiling is then the lower of the base page's 30% and that limit. For the base, CSI does not publish composition, density, viscosity or flash point; ask whether an SDS or technical data sheet is available, and do not assume one will be.
| Document or fact | Source | What you take from it | If missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oil's IFRA certificate | CSI on WhatsApp | Category 10A limit; IFRA amendment; product name match | Stop. Do not develop a load you may not be able to sell |
| Oil's MSDS | CSI on WhatsApp | Handling, storage and transport information | Request it before you hold kilograms |
| Base SDS or technical data sheet | Ask CSI whether one is available | Whatever it states; nothing is published on the page | Record that it was requested; treat base claims as untested |
| Base page statements | The product page | 10–30% range, 20% recommended, 24–48 h rest, families | — |
| Your house standard | You | Room, visit time, distance, scale, pass score | Write it before stage 1 |
Stage 1: the 100 g trials
A 100 g trial is the smallest batch that gives you enough liquid for a clarity bottle, a reeded bottle and a retained sample, and is still large enough to weigh accurately on a scale stepping in whole grams. Make one 100 g trial per load: oil = 100 g × load, base = the rest. Fill two 45 ml portions of the Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle 50 ml — one capped for clarity, one with 6 black fibre reeds for a first room screen — and keep the remaining 10 g capped as the retained reference. The rungs here are 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%; add 30% only if the certificate allows it and you have a reason to look that high.
| Trial | Oil | Base | Clear 0 h / 24–48 h / 7 d / cool night | Density (g per 100 ml) | Room score day 3 / 7 | g/day (reeded) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| T10 | 10 g | 90 g | ___ / ___ / ___ / ___ | ___ | ___ / ___ | ___ |
| T15 | 15 g | 85 g | ___ / ___ / ___ / ___ | ___ | ___ / ___ | ___ |
| T20 | 20 g | 80 g | ___ / ___ / ___ / ___ | ___ | ___ / ___ | ___ |
| T25 | 25 g | 75 g | ___ / ___ / ___ / ___ | ___ | ___ / ___ | ___ |
Two buying notes. Stage 1 needs 330 g of base: one 500 ml bottle of Pure Performance (₹1,099.00) is cheaper than four 100 g packs (₹1,300.00) for any base density above 0.676 g/ml, and leaves base for stage 2. And it needs 70 g of oil — Sandalwood in 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g costs ₹457.84, less than a single 100 g pack. If sandalwood clouds at the higher rungs, the base page the series assigns to woody families is Longevity Base; test it at the failing load as a separate arm, as the heavy oud, amber and sandalwood post describes.
Stage 2: confirm the lowest passing load
Stage 1 tells you where the pass probably is. Stage 2 makes sure. Take the lowest load that looked like it passed — 20% in this example — and the next rung up, and run each at three reeded bottles and one capped bottle, from fresh blends made from the same lots. Fix everything else: fill weight, reed count and pack, holding area, scoring room and panel. Weigh daily; score blind on fixed days; project grams per day from the later days, not the first. Then apply the economic test from the most economical percentage: the higher load is worth choosing only if it passes where the lower one fails, or uses enough less liquid per day to pay for itself.
| Arm | Bottles | Oil per bottle | Base per bottle | Gate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20% (lowest passing, example) | 3 reeded + 1 capped | 9.00 g | 36.00 g | Clears the standard on a second panel; capped bottle clear at 7 days |
| 25% (next rung) | 3 reeded + 1 capped | 11.25 g | 33.75 g | Chosen only if 20% fails or 25% wins on cost per day |
Stage 3: safety and compatibility before scale
Stage 3 costs nothing new: it uses the stage 2 bottles and your paperwork. Its purpose is to catch the problems that only matter once you sell in volume. Each line below is a working practice, not a standard — no published standard exists for most of them — and none of it replaces advice on the rules in the markets where you sell.
| Check | How | Pass line (your house rule) |
|---|---|---|
| IFRA margin | Set the production target below the certificate's Category 10A limit by your batch's weighing margin | Written on the formula record |
| Clarity after a cool night | Capped bottle in a cool room overnight; check on white and black card | No haze, layering, droplets or sediment |
| Leak and cap check | Capped, filled bottle laid on its side on paper for a day (example duration) | No liquid on the paper; cap and neck dry |
| Reed condition | Photograph reeds at day 7 and later; note colour and stickiness | No change you would not accept in a customer's home |
| Handling and storage | Read the oil's MSDS; store sealed, labelled, away from heat and flame | Storage area matches the MSDS |
| Label and warnings | Draft the label; check the rules in each market you sell into | Reviewed by someone who knows those rules |
The leak check matters more for wholesale than for gifts: a pallet of bottles laid on their sides in a courier van is a different test from a bottle on your shelf. CSI does not publish whether the Gold bottle includes a reducer or stopper, or its neck size; test the closure you will actually ship. For a fuller quality list, the reed diffuser QC checklist covers clarity, strength, reeds, leakage, stability and packaging, and a cloudy blend after mixing covers what to do when the cool-night check fails.
Stage 4: the 1 kg bridge batch
Going straight from 100 g to 25 kg is a 250-fold jump. A 1 kg bridge batch tests the three things that change with scale — the density that converts grams to millilitres, mixing uniformity in a bigger vessel, and whether the larger batch behaves like the trial — for ₹4,615.80. Mix 200 g of oil and 800 g of base at 20%; on the same day, mix a fresh 100 g control from the same lots. After the rest, weigh 100 ml from the top, middle and bottom of the 1 kg vessel; matching densities mean it is uniform. Fill three bottles from the control and one each from the top, middle and bottom samples, and run them for 7 days.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sandalwood | 220 g (batch + control) | 2 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | ₹1,191.80 |
| Pure Performance Base | 880 g | 2 × 500 ml | ₹2,198.00 |
| Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle 50 ml | 6 validation bottles | 1 pack of 10 | ₹826.00 |
| black fibre reeds | 6 × 6 | 1 × pack of 50 | ₹400.00 |
| Stage 4 total | ₹4,615.80 |
Two numbers come out of stage 4 that stage 5 cannot do without: your measured blend density, and a measured base density from weighing a full and an empty 500 ml bottle. With them, the 25 kg order is a calculation rather than an estimate. The gate is simple: uniform densities, all bottles clear, and the three batch bottles inside the spread of the three control bottles on density, grams per day and room score. Scaling a 100 g trial to a 10 kg batch runs this stage in depth; density and bottle yield shows how the density sets the bottle count.
Stage 5: the 25 kg production batch
At 20% by weight, 25 kg of finished liquid is 5,000 g of fragrance oil and 20,000 g of base — the approved percentage multiplied by the batch weight, never the trial's grams multiplied by 250. The base is sold in 500 ml bottles with no published density, so the number of bottles depends on stage 4's measurement. CSI lists no 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg base pack; a 25 kg batch is a count of 500 ml bottles at listed prices, and larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp with no published volume discount.
| Base density (example) | Volume | 500 ml bottles | Spare | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.95 g/ml | 21,053 ml | 43 | 425 g | ₹47,257.00 |
| 1.00 g/ml | 20,000 ml | 40 | 0 g | ₹43,960.00 |
| 1.05 g/ml | 19,048 ml | 39 | 475 g | ₹42,861.00 |
At exactly 1.00 g/ml, 40 bottles hold exactly 20,000 g — no margin — so buy 41. The oil is 5 × 1 kg of Sandalwood (₹25,134.00); ten 500 g packs cost the same, ₹25,134.00, because Sandalwood is priced at ₹5.03 per gram at 500 g and 1 kg alike. Per-gram breaks above 100 g are rare on CSI's listed catalogue; buying bigger buys stock security, not a lower rate.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Performance Base | 20,000 g | 40 × 500 ml | ₹43,960.00 |
| Pure Performance Base — safety bottle | drainage, lighter lot | 1 × 500 ml | ₹1,099.00 |
| Sandalwood | 5,000 g | 5 × 1 kg | ₹25,134.00 |
| Liquid, 25 kg | ₹70,193.00 with the safety bottle | ||
| Gold Reed Diffuser Bottle 120 ml | 245 bottles at 100 ml fill | 25 packs of 10 | ₹26,550.00 |
| black fibre reeds | 245 × 8 | 3 × pack of 500 + 4 × pack of 100 + 1 × pack of 50 + 1 × pack of 25 | ₹15,836.00 |
| Bottle and fill | Bottles | Liquid per bottle | Bottle each |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold 120 ml (100 ml fill) | 245 | ₹276.38 | ₹106.20 |
| Gold 120 ml (110 ml fill) | 222 | ₹304.01 | ₹106.20 |
| Gold 50 ml (45 ml fill) | 544 | ₹124.37 | ₹82.60 |
At production rates the liquid costs ₹2.76 per gram — ₹276.38 for a 100 ml fill at the example density — and a finished 120 ml Gold bottle with 8 black reeds is ₹446.58 in CSI materials, before labels, boxes, courier, labour and GST. The cost-per-bottle post breaks that down line by line, the 100-bottle order shows the allowance stack for a fixed bottle count, and monthly wholesale requirements turns a released 25 kg formula into a rolling buying plan. If you are weighing whether to buy 25 kg of base at all, 1 kg, 5 kg or 25 kg of base and 500 g samples before a 25 kg order cover that decision.
The timeline, and what does not fit before Diwali
Today is 14 October 2026; Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November, 25 days away. The route can be compressed by overlapping stages, but not by skipping holds. The schedule below is the fastest honest version, with stage 2 started as soon as stage 1's 48-hour checks look promising.
| Step | Starts day | Ends day | What it cannot shorten |
|---|---|---|---|
| Certificates + documents | 0 | 1 | — |
| Stage 1 mix + 24–48 h rest | 1 | 3 | The 24–48 h rest the base pages ask for |
| Stage 1 7-day hold + room screen | 3 | 10 | The 7-day hold |
| Stage 2 confirmation (overlaps) | 5 | 12 | — |
| Stage 4 1 kg bridge + rest + 7-day validation | 10 | 19 | The 24–48 h rest the base pages ask for |
| Stage 5 25 kg mix + rest | 19 | 21 | The 24–48 h rest the base pages ask for |
| Fill, pack, dispatch | 21 | 25 | Courier time to your customers |
That schedule ends on Diwali itself, which is too late for most deliveries, and it includes no 30-day performance test. So the honest conclusion is that a fully gated 25 kg wholesale batch does not fit before Diwali 2026. What can fit is stages 0 to 2, the safety checks, and the stage 4 bridge batch released as a small first production run by about day 19 — enough for a limited Diwali range sold on its fragrance and clarity, not on a number of weeks. Make the 25 kg after Diwali for the November–February wedding season, and run the 30-day test alongside the first production so that later batches can carry a life claim. The 30-day performance test sets it out. If any gate fails, the honest answer is a smaller Diwali run from the stage 4 formula, or a later launch.

The four other section hubs pick up where this route touches their ground. Starting out: raw materials and the first base is the beginner hub, which base to buy the base-selection hub and pillar, weak diffusers and diagnosis the troubleshooting hub, and starting a business with ₹10,000 the business hub. The other capstones are the complete 100 ml process, selecting a commercial base, fixing a weak diffuser systematically and starting a profitable reed diffuser business; making a 100 ml diffuser without alcohol is the hands-on pillar.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. The page tells you to spend ₹9,938.32 on development before a ₹69,094.00 order, that you do not need to make your largest batch to keep a formula released, that no 30-day life test fits before Diwali, and that CSI publishes no IFRA percentage, density or diffuser performance for any base or oil.
Diffuser base, reed, bottle, beaker, scale and mixer prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 14 October 2026. Fragrance-oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 14 October 2026. Every gram, millilitre, pack count, per-bottle cost and kit total on this page is computed and shown to two decimals so you can check it; ml ↔ g conversions use labelled example densities with a ±5% sensitivity, because no density is published for any CSI base or oil.
Bottle counts per arm, rest and hold checkpoints, weighing schedules, room-scoring scales, filling-loss allowances and pass lines are labelled working practices, not industry standards — none is published for reed diffusers. The 20% winning load, the 1.00 g/ml density, the 45 ml development fills, the 6 and 8 reed counts, the 2% transfer loss, the 10 kg vessel, the leak-check duration and the timeline are labelled examples. Pure Performance — neutral, for all families, 20% recommended, typical 75% base + 25% fragrance, example 75 ml + 25 ml for 100 ml at 25%; Longevity — oriental, woody, resinous, spicy and gourmand, avoid light florals, citrus and aquatics, "heavy oils like oud can cloud at maximum load in some bases"; Lift — floral, citrus, green and fruity; Depth — chypre, leather, smoky and rich gourmand; Softness — soft florals, powdery/musky and light gourmand. CSI HyperDiffusion Base™ (₹1,499.00) is out of stock. Reed page: length 20.3 cm and "6–8 reeds" for a standard 50–100 ml bottle; reed diameter not published. Gold bottle: neck diameter, fill line and any reducer not published. CSI publishes no composition, density, viscosity, evaporation rate, flash point or shelf life for any diffuser base, no density or IFRA percentage for any fragrance oil, and no diffuser throw, consumption or longevity data for any base, oil or reed. Every density on this page is a labelled example, every load above the page range is excluded, and every pass line is the reader's labelled house standard.
