"For candle making and new beginner this is very helpful, i came to know about them from Sosa candle, Sonal guide us in youtube about product materials and everything she suggested this, I trusted her and gave a try, and it is authentic product and other materials too. Sometimes it happens that all materials didnt reach me, they take the responsibility and send me. The team is co-operative in nature and friendly too. If i ordered liquid colors or fragrance that too packed so well that there is no leakage also my packaged item where misplaced by delivery boy i guess (i didn't remember properly) they sent it again they took all that responsibility that gains the trust. Only i felt little costly during checkout when its kg amount calculated (ho sakhe todha kam kar do,haha). Overall had great experience with them. Thankyou so much 👍😊"

Same "size", new supplier, much larger flame. Wick names are each maker's own labels, and the construction underneath can differ a lot. Treat the new wick as a new formula: bracket three candidates against your old wick, in one pot, to the end of the jar.

Eco C1 20 + C2 10: a CSI bracket for jars up to about 8 cm · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
I changed cotton wick supplier and the flame got much larger. Can "similar" wick sizes really behave differently? Yes, and often. Wick size names are each maker's own labels; there is no shared scale between suppliers. Two wicks both called "size 2", "medium" or "C2" can differ in braid, thickness, core, coating and tab, and any of those can change the flame.

So what is the new wick? For your candle, a new formula. Treat the switch the way you treated your first wick choice: a bracket of candidates burned to the end, not a one-for-one swap by name.

What does the test look like? One pot of today's mix, 12 candles: three CSI rungs × three candles, plus three controls on your old supplier's wick if you have any left. The controls prove the formula itself hasn't changed. Trim all to 5–6 mm, cure to a fixed age, burn in 4-hour sessions to the end, judge each third.

What do I buy? For jars up to about 8 cm, the Eco C1 20-pack and C2 10-pack (₹212.40). CSI's pages state no size chart for C1 or C2, so we won't tell you which one matches your old wick; your bracket will.
The short answer
Why it happened: wick names don't travel between makers. Construction (braid pattern, ply count and thickness, any core, priming wax or coating, tab neck height, pre-cut length) varies by maker, and a wick that draws more fuel gives a larger flame.
What it means: the supplier change is a formula change. Nothing about the old wick's approval carries over to the new one except your jar, wax, oil and load data.
The test: bracket three candidates from the new range around the burn you want, three candles each, with old-wick controls from the same pot, to the end of the jar, judged by third.
Honest limit: CSI's range is short (C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided, no half-sizes, one wooden width), and our C1/C2 pages state no size specification. Bracket them; don't map them.
New supplier, new wick: the requalification plan Worked example in days from wicks in hand. Your cure, burn rate and fill set the real dates. 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 day Measure 10 of each wick Pour 12 candles 9 CSI + 3 old Cure to a fixed test age day 7 Burns: top third Burns: middle third Burns: bottom third to about 1 cm Apply the approval rule Order production wicks by the month Dashed line: no bulk order before every candle passes every third. The 12 candles, all from one pot of today's mix Old supplier's wick 3 · the control CSI rung 1 3 · e.g. C2 CSI rung 2 3 · e.g. C1 CSI rung 3 3 · e.g. C1 pair
A worked-example schedule for requalifying a candle after a wick supplier change, counted in days from the day the new wicks arrive. All 12 candles come from one pot: nine on three CSI rungs and three controls on the old supplier's wick. Curing to a fixed test age (day 7 here) and burning to the end take about two weeks at the worked-example 7 g an hour; the dashed line is the bulk-order gate. CSI publishes no delivery times, so add your own before day 0.
Straight answer
I changed from one cotton wick supplier to another and the flame became much larger. Can supposedly similar wick sizes behave differently?
Yes. "Similar size" usually means a similar name, and wick names are not a standard: each maker sizes and labels its own range. Under the name, the construction can differ in ways you can't see on a product page: the braid pattern and how tightly it is woven, the number and thickness of plies, whether there is a core, the priming wax or coating, how the fibre was treated, the tab's neck height and the pre-cut length. Any one of those can make a wick draw more fuel, and more fuel is a larger flame. So treat the new wick as a new formula: keep your jar, wax, oil and load, and re-earn the wick's approval with a bracket of three candidates from the new range, three candles each, plus controls on your old wick from the same pot, burned in 4-hour sessions to the end and judged by third. If you are moving to CSI: our C1 and C2 pages state no size specification, so we can't honestly tell you which one equals your old wick. The bracket can. And if your old supplier's wick still worked and is still available, going back to it is a legitimate answer.
One line: wick names are not sizes; bracket three candidates from the new range against your old wick in one pot, and burn them to the end before you buy in bulk.
The bracket, priced: jars up to about 8 cm, Eco C1 20 + C2 10 (₹212.40); jars wider than 8 cm, C2 10 + Cotton Braided 10 (₹214.40). All in stock on 7 October 2026; the C1 10-pack is not.
Eco Candle Wicks — from ₹94.40

Why wick size names don't travel between makers

A wick name is a shelf label. The burn is the specification.

Wick makers number, letter or describe their sizes for their own range: numbers, letter-number codes, "thin" and "thick", a jar diameter, or a wax type. Those labels sort wicks within one maker's range; they don't place them on a shared scale. Two makers' "number 2" are related only by the digit. Even a diameter on a page ("for 2 inch jars") describes the maker's test candle, not yours.

What a wick label tells you, and what it doesn't
CSI examples are page wording from the text we captured · tendencies are common observations, not CSI test data
Label type CSI example Tells you Doesn't tell you
Letter-number code Eco "Thin (C1)", "Thick (C2)" Order within the range: C2 is the thicker of the two Any size on another maker's scale; length, width, braid
Jar diameter Eco Candle Wicks Loose: "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters" The maker's intended jar size How it burns with your wax, oil, load and jar shape
Diameter threshold Cotton Braided: "large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" Where the maker positions it Whether your 9 cm jar needs it or a pair of smaller wicks
General use Eco Braided Wicks: "the perfect solution for large diameter container jars" Intended category Any size at all; it is cut to length
Construction words Eco: "natural fibers like cotton and paper"; Cotton Braided: "thick, braided construction" Broad material and type Ply count, core, coating, how much fuel it draws

The construction differences that hide under a name

Braid pattern and tightness: flat, square and round braids carry fuel and curl differently, and a tighter weave draws differently from a loose one. Plies and thickness: more or thicker yarns commonly draw more fuel. Core: some wicks have a core (commonly paper or cotton) that stiffens them and changes the burn. Priming and coating: wicks are usually primed with wax; a different priming wax, or an added coating, changes lighting and burn. Fibre treatment: some makers treat fibres to control how the wick burns; pages rarely say. Tab neck and pre-cut length: these change where the flame stops at the end and how much wick stands above the wax at first light. All of these are general tendencies; none can be read off a product listing, ours included.

That is why the question isn't "which of their sizes equals my old one?" but "which of their wicks burns my candle correctly?" The first has no answer; the second has a test. For a deeper look at how nominal sizes compare across wick series, see two series with similar nominal sizes; the full list of what a wick change makes you re-earn is the wick-change hub.

Safety first, plainly: a "much larger" flame after a wick swap is a reason to stop selling that combination today, not after the next batch. Hold stock poured with the new wick until it passes. During tests, stop any session where the flame smokes or reaches towards the glass, and never judge glass by touch: use your own non-contact thermometer at marked points (CSI lists none; our Pen Thermometer is for wax). No wick, from us or anyone, makes a candle "safe" by its name.

Construction or conditions: the causes ranked

Most of this is the wick. Rule out the two free things first.
Cause ranking · new supplier's "same size" cotton wick, much larger flame
Conditions and process (P) vs the wick itself (W) · ranked by likelihood and cost to test (judgement) · common observations, not CSI data · ₹ from CSI live pricing, 7 October 2026
Cause What you'd see Discriminating test Fix Cost
1. Construction draws more fuel (W) Larger flame from hour one at the same trim; deeper pool, faster wax use, maybe more carbon Old wick vs new wick in candles from one pot, same trim, same session Bracket the new range; take the rung that passes ₹212.40 (C1 20 + C2 10)
2. Longer pre-cut length (P) Tall first flame that settles after a 5–6 mm trim Measure exposed wick on finished candles; trim and re-burn Trim to a fixed height at finishing Nothing, or a cutter from ₹177.00
3. Coating or priming (W) Lights faster, burns brighter or taller; may soot early Shows up in test 1; a visible sheen or stiffness difference on the bench As cause 1: the burn decides As cause 1
4. Tab neck or crimp (W) Normal at the top; different end-of-life behaviour Carry the bracket to the end of the jar Judge the bottom third separately Included in the bracket
5. Test conditions changed (P) Old-wick controls are also larger than they used to be Old-wick controls in the same session Still air, recorded room, fixed cure age Nothing
6. Centring or seating (P) Lean, one-sided pool, flame near one wall Look down the jar; check tab adhesion Centring bars or a setting tool From ₹118.00

The old-wick controls do the heavy lifting for causes 5 and 1 at once: if your old wick still burns as it always did in today's mix, the formula and the room haven't changed, and the difference is the new wick. If you have no old wicks left, you lose that control; run the bracket anyway and compare against your written records from the original approval. How to log flame height and set an equivalence band for a replacement wick is the subject of the larger-flame-after-a-brand-change post; this post doesn't repeat it.

The bracket: choosing the rungs without a size chart

Anchor on the burn you approved, not on the name you used to buy.

Your old wick's approved burn is the target: its flame height, pool time and depth, and end-of-life from your records. Pick three rungs from the new range that should straddle it: one you expect to be a little weak, one about right, one a little strong. The new wick's flame is "much larger", so start lower in the new range than its name suggests. In CSI's range that usually means:

Starting brackets in CSI's range · a starting point, not a mapping
Jar widths are the reader's own · CSI lists no jar at 7.5, 8, 8.5 or 9 cm, and no listing states an internal diameter · the burn decides
Your jar Rung 1 Rung 2 Rung 3 Buy
Up to about 8 cm C1 C2 C1 pair (if C1 tunnels and C2 is too strong) C1 20 + C2 10 = ₹212.40
Wider than about 8 cm C2 Cotton Braided C2 pair or C1 pair C2 10 + CB 10 = ₹214.40; with C1 for pairs, ₹332.40
Neither Eco rung behaves Braided Wick Roll, cut to length — — ₹706.82 (100 tabs)

Three things to keep in mind. The C1 pair costs ₹2.36 more per candle than one C2, and needs a holder that keeps two wicks at a fixed spacing (the Wick Centering Device has one hole). Cotton Braided is a different construction, positioned by its page for candles "exceeding 8 cm"; it is not a bigger Eco wick. And there is no sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2 or between C2 and Cotton Braided. If your bracket lands in one of those gaps, tell us on WhatsApp and we will say plainly that we don't stock the step, rather than sell you the nearest rung.

Don't map by name, in either direction. If you are leaving CSI for another supplier, our "C2" tells them nothing; send them your burn record instead. If you are coming to CSI, your old "size 2" tells us nothing about C1 or C2. And don't swap the whole production line on one evening's burn: one good top third proves nothing about the bottom third, which is where tab and construction differences often show.

The requalification plan and the approval rule

Twelve candles, one pot, two weeks. Then you know.
1
Look before you pourTen wicks of the old and ten of each new candidate on white paper, photographed with a ruler: length, tab neck, width, braid, sheen. It won't predict the burn, but it records what you bought.
2
Pour 12 candles from one pot200 g at 8% each (16 g oil + 184 g wax, load on total weight), 2,208 g wax and 192 g oil in all, identical jars, same pour temperature (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"). Three on the old wick, three on each CSI rung. Centre every wick; label the bases.
3
Cure to a fixed ageMany oil pages state 48–72 hours for soy as a minimum; a fixed test age (day 7 in the worked example) makes this test comparable with every future one.
4
Burn in 4-hour sessions, all togetherStill air, trimmed to 5–6 mm, spaced apart. Log flame height at 1, 2, 3 and 4 h, pool depth at 4 h, mushroom, smoke, and grams lost per session. At a worked-example 7 g an hour, a 200 g candle needs about 7 sessions to a 1 cm floor.
5
Judge each third separatelyTop, middle and bottom. A new wick's tab or construction can behave well high in the jar and differently near the base.
6
Decide on day 15, not beforeApply the rule below. Then, and only then, order production wicks, and update your batch sheet with the new wick's name, supplier and order number.
The approval rule (in-house, labelled)
A rung is approved when all three candles meet every written limit (flame inside your band, 2.5–5 cm being a common starting point, with little growth; no visible smoke; pool reaching the glass from burn two and no deeper than about 1.5 cm; glass within your own written limit by non-contact thermometer; finishing with about 1 cm of wax) in the top, middle and bottom thirds, and is no worse than your old wick's controls on any of them. One failing reading fails the rung. This is a protocol you set before burn 1, not an industry standard. If you sell several fragrances in this jar, one approval is not enough: the wick-change hub linked above sets out how far a wick change reaches across a range.

The CSI buy list and the production step

A short range is easy to bracket. It also has gaps you should know about before you start.

CSI's sized, tabbed wicks are three rungs: C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided. Our other wicks (the Braided Wick Roll, Eco Braided Wicks by the metre, the Eco Candle Wicks Loose) are cut-to-length constructions, not intermediate sizes, and there is one Performance Wooden Wick listing with no width options. That is the whole range. If your old supplier offered ten sizes and your candle sat between two of ours, we may not have your step; we would rather you know that now.

Argued against our own interest: if your old supplier's wick worked and you changed only for price or convenience, compare the cost of a full requalification (candles, weeks, and the risk of a gap in our range) with simply going back. Sometimes the cheapest wick is the one you already approved. And because C1, C2 and Cotton Braided cost the same per wick at every pack size, there is no bulk discount on our side to justify switching before the bracket passes.

The step to production quantity

When a rung passes: production wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + a defect allowance). Worked example, labelled: 400 single-wick candles a month moving to the approved wick, 2% allowance, is 408 wicks. If C2 passed: 4 × 100 + 10 = 410 C2 for ₹3,870.40. If C1 passed: 4 × 100 + 20 = 420 C1 for ₹2,478.00 (with the 10-pack out of stock, the 20-pack is the smallest top-up). Keep ten wicks of the first lot as your reference (why that matters for the next lot), and if you move to wholesale quantities, write down the exact listing and specification you approved (requesting the same specification at 5,000 pieces). CSI publishes no lead times; ask on WhatsApp before you set a reorder point.

Don't buy 1,000 of the new wick because the first burn looked fine. Our 1,000-packs (₹5,900.00 C1, ₹9,440.00 C2, ₹12,000.00 Cotton Braided) cost exactly the same per wick as the small packs. The only thing a big early order buys is risk. Pass three candles to the end, then buy by the month.
Switching wicks before Diwali? Diwali is 8 November 2026, 32 days from 7 October 2026. The worked-example plan needs about 15 days from wicks in hand, plus delivery. If a festive batch depends on the new wick, pour the bracket the day the wicks arrive and send us your production count on WhatsApp as soon as a rung passes, with a GST invoice.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1) and Thick (C2)
If you are switching to CSI, this is where most brackets start. Know what the page does and doesn't tell you: it says the wicks are "crafted from natural fibers like cotton and paper" and sold as Thin (C1) and Thick (C2); in the text we captured it states no length, width, braid or jar-diameter range. So "C2" is our name, not a size on anyone else's scale, and your old supplier's "size 2" or "medium" does not map onto it. Bracket both. C1 is ₹5.90 and C2 ₹9.44 a wick at every pack. Limitation: no sized, tabbed wick between them; the C1 10-pack is out of stock on 7 October 2026.

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
A different construction rather than "a bigger C2": the page describes a "thick, braided construction", "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", with "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm". Put it in the bracket only if your jar is wider than about 8 cm or your old wick was used in wide jars. In a narrower jar, a new supplier's wick that already burns too large plus this rung is the wrong direction. ₹12.00 a wick at every pack. Argued against our own interest: for most 7–8 cm jars you do not need this pack at all.

Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs (61 meters)
Braided cotton on a spool with 100 tabs: the page describes "a long spool of braided cotton wick" that you "cut the wick to the desired length". It is one construction with no size options, so it is not a half-step between C1 and C2; it is a different wick to bracket if neither Eco rung behaves. The tabs, not the wick, limit the count: 100 tabbed wicks at ₹7.07 each. Limitation: you crimp the tabs yourself, which adds a variable (tab height and crimp) that pre-tabbed wicks don't have; keep it consistent.

Candle Wick Cutter | Candle Wick Trimmer
New suppliers often ship wicks at a different length, and whatever stands above the wax at first light sets the first flame. Trimming every candle in the bracket to the same 5–6 mm before each burn takes length out of the comparison, so only construction is left. The page says "Clean cuts: Effortlessly trim wicks to the perfect length for an even burn and minimal smoke" (the page's wording). Argued against our own interest: sharp scissors that reach your wick do this job; buy the ₹177.00 cutter only if they don't.

The CSI principle
A wick's name is a label. Its burn in your candle is the specification.
After a supplier change: bracket three rungs from the new range against your old wick in one pot, burn to the end, judge each third, and only then buy production quantities.
"Never ask which of our wicks equals your old one. Ask which of them burns your candle correctly, and let twelve candles answer."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks and tools named here, not finished candles. This page still tells you that our C1 and C2 pages state no size specification, that our range has no half-sizes, that bigger packs cost no less per wick, and that going back to a wick you already approved can be the right answer.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026, with stock checked per pack: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock and is not offered; every other item priced here is in stock. Page wording is quoted and attributed: "natural fibers like cotton and paper" and "minimal soot or smoke" (Eco), "thick, braided construction" and "exceeding 8 cm" (Cotton Braided), "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters" (Loose).

Construction differences between makers are general tendencies, not CSI test data. The schedule, the 7 g/h rate, the day-7 test age, the 400-a-month order and the 2% allowance are labelled worked examples or judgement; the flame band, pool depth and 1 cm floor are rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

Are wick sizes the same between different brands?
No. Each maker names and sizes its own range, and construction (braid, plies, core, coating, tab) differs underneath the name. Two wicks with similar names can burn very differently in the same candle.
Why is my new wick burning with a bigger flame?
Most often because its construction draws more fuel than your old one; sometimes because it was pre-cut longer. Trim both to 5–6 mm and burn old against new in candles from one pot to separate the two.
What CSI wick is equivalent to my old supplier's size?
We can't honestly say: our C1 and C2 pages state no size specification. Bracket them instead: for jars up to about 8 cm, C1, C2 and a C1 pair, three candles each, beside your old wick. The C1 20-pack and C2 10-pack cost ₹212.40 together.
Do I need to retest my candles if I change wick supplier?
Yes. A new wick is a formula change: flame, pool, mushroom, soot, glass heat, burn rate and end-of-life all have to be re-earned on full-life candles, and in each fragrance group you sell.
How many candles do I need to test a new wick brand?
At least three per candidate; with three candidates and three controls on your old wick, twelve, all from one pot and burned to the end. One good burn is not approval.
Is a thicker wick always a bigger flame?
Commonly, but not always: braid, core and coating also change how much fuel a wick draws. That is exactly why names and appearances can mislead, and why the burn decides.
New wick supplier, much larger flame
Bracket the new range against your old wick, in one pot, to the end of the jar.
For jars up to about 8 cm the bracket costs ₹212.40 in CSI wicks (C1 20 + C2 10). Tell us your old wick and jar on WhatsApp and we will suggest where to start, and say plainly where our range has gaps.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Ceramic Jar for Candle Making, Complete Candle Making Course Kit for Beginners, Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles. Non-price figures: "changed supplier", "much larger" and "similar sizes" are the reader's (title). The 200 g test candle at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax, total-weight basis) is the series default, labelled. Jar widths in the bracket table are the reader's own; CSI lists no jar at 7.5, 8, 8.5 or 9 cm. The schedule, 7 g/h, day-7 test age, 400 candles a month and the 2% allowance are labelled worked examples. Trim 5–6 mm, the 2.5–5 cm flame band, about 1.5 cm pool depth and the 1 cm floor are common rules of thumb. Costs are materials only and exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
