CSI Collection Buying · Clean & Fresh
A clean collection is five different answers to what clean smells like. Here are the five CSI oils that fill the roles, how to check they do not blur together, and what the line costs to test and launch.
5 roles
opener, signature, air, cool, soft · one CSI oil each · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What are the best clean fragrances for a candle collection? Five, one per role: a bright opener (Verbena), a signature (Cucumber Green Tea), an air or water scent (Blue Ocean), a cool herbal (Eucalyptus Spearmint) and a soft landing (Lavender Fragrance Oil). Each states a candle load up to 10% on its page and is in stock at every size on 24 September 2026.

Why five and not three or eight? Five gives a customer a real choice across the clean family without two jars smelling alike. Fewer leaves gaps (no aquatic, no herbal); more starts to repeat itself with CSI's current fresh range.

What does the line cost to test? 50 g of each is ₹1,236.21, enough to pour every scent at 6%, 8% and 10% in 150 g jars.

What is missing? A "fresh laundry" scent. CSI lists no Fresh Linen, Clean Cotton or Laundry oil on 24 September 2026; the nearest substitutes and how to test them are in the sibling guides.
The short answer
The line: Opener (Verbena), Signature (Cucumber Green Tea), Air (Blue Ocean), Cool (Eucalyptus Spearmint), Soft (Lavender).
The rule: every scent must be recognisably different blind, and together they should cover sharp and soft, airy and grounded.
The launch: 500 g of the signature, 200 g of each of the others, 105 candles, ₹25,209.80 in materials (worked example, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST).
The alternates: Citrus Lemon or Lemongrass and Lime for the opener, Juicy Orange or Neroli for a warmer soft, Sage and Cedarwood as a sixth, grounded scent.
A clean line that covers the map Placed by the notes each CSI page states (editorial reading). Filled = the five-role line; open = alternates. AIRY · LIGHT BASE GROUNDED · MUSK / WOOD BASE SHARP citrus, mint SOFT floral, tea Verbena Eucalyptus Spearmint Blue Ocean Cucumber Green Tea Lavender Citrus Lemon Lemongrass and Lime Juicy Orange Neroli Sage and Cedarwood Rule of thumb: no more than two scents per quadrant, and none empty. The five picks reach all four quadrants. Positions are judgement from stated notes, not measurements. CSI product pages, verified 24 September 2026.
The five-role line spreads across all four quadrants of the clean family: Verbena sharp and airy, Eucalyptus Spearmint sharp but cooler and fuller, Cucumber Green Tea soft and light, Blue Ocean bright but carried by driftwood and musk, Lavender soft and grounded. The open circles are the alternates you can swap in without breaking the balance.
Straight answer
I want to launch a clean-scented candle collection. Which five CSI fragrances should it contain, and why those five?
Verbena as the bright opener (₹330.40 for 50 g), Cucumber Green Tea as the signature (₹176.41), Blue Ocean as the air-and-water scent (₹247.00), Eucalyptus Spearmint as the cool herbal (₹212.40) and Lavender as the soft landing (₹270.00): ₹1,236.21 for the set. Each has a job no other scent in the line does, so a customer smelling the five jars side by side finds five different ideas of clean, not five versions of lemon. All five pages state a candle maximum of 10%, all are in stock at every size on 24 September 2026, and the oil in one 8% candle ranges from ₹42.34 to ₹70.80 at 100 g prices, a gap of ₹28.46. That gap is small enough to price the whole line at one retail price if you want to.
One line: a clean collection is five different answers to "what does clean smell like": bright, green, watery, cool and soft.
Start with the signature: In our judgement, Cucumber Green Tea is the scent a clean line is most easily named and marketed around. 50 g is ₹176.41 (₹3.53 per gram), four candles at 8%; the 500 g for launch is ₹1,663.80, 41 candles.
Buy Cucumber Green Tea — ₹176.41

Five roles a clean line needs

A customer does not buy "a clean candle". They buy the one clean candle that is theirs, which means the other four have to be different enough to lose to it.

The commonest mistake in a clean collection is building it from the same idea five times: lemon, lemon-lime, lemongrass, verbena, citrus. On a shelf they blur together, and the customer who does not want citrus walks away with nothing. A line works when every scent does a different job. The hub page for this cluster, Buy Clean Fragrance Oils for Candle Making in India, defines what "clean" covers; this guide takes that family and turns it into a line with roles.

The five roles · with the CSI oil for each and a swap
Each role is a different customer, not a different strength of the same scent
Role Its job in the line Who it is for Pick Swap
1 · Opener The first jar people lift; says "fresh" in one second Kitchens, mornings, first-time buyers Verbena Citrus Lemon (cheaper), Lemongrass and Lime (fuller base)
2 · Signature The scent the line is named and photographed around The core customer; gifting Cucumber Green Tea No second green tea listed; this role has no swap
3 · Air Water, sea, open windows; for many people the most "clean" Bathrooms, bedrooms, summer Blue Ocean None with a stated candle load
4 · Cool Herbal, minty, alert Study, work-from-home, people who dislike sweetness Eucalyptus Spearmint Sage and Cedarwood (drier, woodier)
5 · Soft The gentle end; clean that leans floral and musky Evenings, bedrooms, people who find citrus sharp Lavender Neroli (brighter), Juicy Orange (warmer)

Two of the roles have no real swap in CSI's current catalogue. The signature has only one green-tea oil, and the air role has only one aquatic with a stated candle load. That is not a problem for a first line, but it means those two oils are the ones to watch for stock before you commit to a launch date.

Mistake: choosing five oils you personally love. Fix: choose one per role, then check you love each. If two of your favourites fill the same role, one of them belongs in a later line or a seasonal release, not in the core five.

The five oils, role by role

Chosen on role fit (from the notes each page states), a stated candle load, stock at every size on 24 September 2026, and cost. We have no throw or sales data and do not rank on either; the numbers below are the role order, not a quality order. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8% (12 g of oil).

1
role 1 · opener · citrus herbal
Verbena Fragrance Oil
The opener has to say "fresh" before the customer has finished lifting the lid, and verbena does it with more character than plain lemon. The page describes "Crisp lemony verbena with herbal undertones" and states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax Up to 6% for paraffin wax". The herbal edge links it to the cool role without duplicating it. Limitation: no base note is named, so it is the scent most likely to fade late in a burn; how to support a thin fresh oil is covered in Strong Fresh Fragrance Oils for Candle Making. If price matters more than character, Citrus Lemon fills the role at ₹36.00 of oil per candle.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹106.20 ₹7.08 1
50 gm ₹330.40 ₹6.61 4
100 gm ₹590.00 ₹5.90 8
500 gm ₹2,478.00 ₹4.96 41
1 kg ₹4,720.00 ₹4.72 83
The 100 g is 10.7% cheaper per gram than the 50 g; ₹70.80 of oil per 8% candle at 100 g. Buy Verbena
2
role 2 · signature · fresh green
Cucumber Green Tea
The signature is the scent your line is known for, so it needs a complete structure and a name customers already like. Stated notes: "Top Notes: Crisp cucumber, fresh green tea leaves | Heart Notes: Delicate jasmine, hints of lemon | Base Notes: Clean musk, light woods". The page says "we recommend using 8-10% fragrance oil per pound of wax"; we read that, as every load here, as a percentage of total candle weight. It is the least expensive oil in the line at 50 g and 100 g (Eucalyptus Spearmint undercuts it at 500 g and 1 kg). Limitation: "light woods" is a light base; in soy it needs a lidded cure to hold, and there is no second green-tea oil in the catalogue to switch to if it does not suit your wax.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹176.41 ₹3.53 4
100 gm ₹352.82 ₹3.53 8
500 gm ₹1,663.80 ₹3.33 41
1 kg ₹3,327.60 ₹3.33 83
Cheapest in the line: ₹42.34 of oil per 8% candle at 100 g. The 15 g is 76% dearer per gram than the 50 g. Buy Cucumber Green Tea
3
role 3 · air · fresh aquatic
Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil
The air role is the one many people picture when they say "clean": water, salt, wind. Stated notes: "sea salt and ozone top notes, jasmine and lily of the valley heart, and driftwood and musk base"; stated use "candles (up to 10%)"; the page calls it "a refreshing, phthalate-free aquatic fragrance oil" (page wording). The driftwood and musk give it more floor than the opener. Limitation: aquatics can read "bathroom product" rather than "candle" at high load, so it is the scent to judge most carefully at 8% versus 10%. It is also the only aquatic with a stated candle load in the range, so plan stock for it.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹247.00 ₹4.94 4
100 gm ₹495.00 ₹4.95 8
500 gm ₹2,478.00 ₹4.96 41
1 kg ₹4,956.00 ₹4.96 83
Per gram rises very slightly with size (₹4.94 at 50 g, ₹4.96 at 1 kg): no reason to buy big early. Buy Blue Ocean
4
role 4 · cool · herbal aromatic
Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil
The cool scent is for the customer who wants clean without sweetness or fruit. The page describes "crisp eucalyptus with cool spearmint", states "Recommended fragrance load up to 10% for soy wax, up to 6% for paraffin", and calls it "A refreshing, IFRA-certified eucalyptus spearmint fragrance oil" (page wording; documents on request). It is the most different-smelling scent in the line, which is exactly its job. Limitation: minty-eucalyptus scents divide people; in our judgement it will appeal to a narrower group than the signature, and pour fewer of it at launch.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹68.44 ₹4.56 1
50 gm ₹212.40 ₹4.25 4
100 gm ₹354.00 ₹3.54 8
500 gm ₹1,652.00 ₹3.30 41
1 kg ₹3,068.00 ₹3.07 83
Least expensive to buy in small sizes: 15 g ₹68.44; the 100 g is 16.7% cheaper per gram than the 50 g. Buy Eucalyptus Spearmint
5
role 5 · soft · herbal floral
Lavender Fragrance Oil
The soft landing gives the line a gentle end, for customers who find citrus and mint sharp. The page describes "fresh lavender top notes, herbal green mid notes, and soft musk base", states "Recommended fragrance load 6-10% for candles", and calls it "A strong, IFRA-certified lavender fragrance oil" (the page's wording, not our measurement). Lavender is a classic "clean" note and bridges to the herbal cool role. Limitation: lavender carries strong associations with calm and bedtime, which is fine for scent character, but keep your labels to scent language and make no wellbeing claims for it. Neroli (₹79.86 per candle) is the brighter swap; Juicy Orange (₹89.88) the warmer one.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹105.02 ₹7.00 1
50 gm ₹270.00 ₹5.40 4
100 gm ₹540.00 ₹5.40 8
500 gm ₹2,620.00 ₹5.24 41
1 kg ₹5,221.00 ₹5.22 83
₹64.80 of oil per 8% candle at 100 g; flat ₹5.40/g at 50 g and 100 g. Buy Lavender
Smell before you commit? 15 g of each is ₹466.10, enough to sniff from the bottle and pour one 8% candle per scent. It will not tell you the right load. For that, the 50 g set at ₹1,236.21 is the better buy.

Checking the line is balanced

If two jars smell alike with the labels hidden, the customer will think the same with the labels on.

Balance means two things: coverage (the line reaches every part of the clean family) and separation (no two scents are close enough to be confused). The map at the top places each oil by the notes its page states on two axes: sharp to soft (citrus and mint at one end, floral and tea at the other) and airy to grounded (how much musk, wood or amber sits under the freshness). It is a reading of published notes, not a lab measurement; your own blind test replaces it.

Coverage check · stated notes, 24 September 2026
Every sub-family of clean appears once, and only once
Sub-family Covered by Stated base Quadrant
Citrus Verbena none named Sharp · airy
Herbal / mint Eucalyptus Spearmint none named Sharp · airy (fuller)
Green / tea Cucumber Green Tea clean musk, light woods Soft · airy
Aquatic Blue Ocean driftwood and musk Sharp · grounded (near centre)
Soft floral-herbal Lavender soft musk Soft · grounded

The triangle test for separation

Take two scents that sit near each other on the map (Verbena and Eucalyptus Spearmint are the closest pair in this line). Pour three identical candles: two of one scent, one of the other. Ask three or four people who have not seen the labels which one is different, from the cold jar and again after an hour's burn. If most of them cannot pick it, those two scents are too close for one line and one should be swapped for an alternate further away on the map. Repeat for any pair you are unsure about.

A quick balance rule
Count your scents per quadrant. More than two in one quadrant means the line leans; zero in a quadrant means a customer type is missing. The five picks reach all four quadrants: two sharp-airy, one soft-airy, one sharp-grounded near the centre (Blue Ocean, the bridge), one soft-grounded.

Naming, jars and colour for a clean line

A clean line should look like one family and read as five people.

Names. Name by mood, place or time rather than by ingredient list, and keep one naming pattern across all five: for example "First Light" (Verbena), "Green Tea House" (Cucumber Green Tea), "Open Window" (Blue Ocean), "Cool Room" (Eucalyptus Spearmint), "Quiet Hour" (Lavender). Say what the customer will smell on the back label in plain words from the notes. Never put a third-party brand, hotel or perfume house name on your label, and avoid wellbeing promises; scent character is enough.

Vessel. One vessel for all five makes the line read as a family. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) (₹94.40 each from a 10-pack) has a stated 150 g fill and a lid. The White Matte Glass Jar and Clear Frosted Glass Jar (₹70.80 each from a 10-pack) look cleaner still, but their pages state height and width (8 cm and 7 cm), not fill weight, so weigh a water fill before you plan quantities. Coloured frosted and matte jars such as Frosted Blue and Green Matte can colour-code the air and signature scents while keeping one shape. Browse the glass jars collection.

Colour. Most clean candles are best left undyed, with colour carried by the label or the jar. If you tint, keep it pale and one shade per scent from the liquid dyes collection, and pour a dyed and an undyed test candle side by side before committing.

One presentation system · worked example
Same jar, five identities
Role Example name Label colour idea Back-label scent line (from stated notes)
Opener First Light Pale yellow Crisp lemony verbena, herbal undertones
Signature Green Tea House Sage green Cucumber, green tea, jasmine, clean musk
Air Open Window Sea blue Sea salt, ozone, lily of the valley, driftwood
Cool Cool Room Mint Eucalyptus and cool spearmint
Soft Quiet Hour Lilac grey Fresh lavender, green herbs, soft musk
A naming caution: if you name a candle "Fresh Linen", buyers will expect the laundry accord, which CSI does not list and which Lavender is not. Do not promise a note the oil does not have; the honest routes for a linen or laundry candle are in Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making and Fresh Laundry Fragrance Oil for Candles.

Launch quantities and cost

Launch the signature deep and the others shallow. Let the first month tell you which one to deepen next.

A worked example of a first production run after the line has passed testing: 500 g of the signature (41 candles) and 200 g of each of the other four (16 candles each, bought as two 100 g bottles), 105 candles in all at 8% in 150 g jars. The signature gets the depth because it is the scent the line is marketed around; the others get enough for a shelf and a first reorder signal.

Worked example · 105-candle launch · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026

Eco C1 wicks 100 + 10 110 wicks ₹649.00
Launch total 105 ₹25,209.80

That is ₹240.09 per candle in materials. The average oil cost across the five is ₹55.96 per candle at 100 g prices; the jar alone is ₹94.40. The 15 spare jars and 5 spare wicks cover retests and breakage. Per-candle cost by scent (oil + CSI 464 + jar + C1): Verbena ₹241.12, Cucumber Green Tea ₹212.66, Blue Ocean ₹229.72, Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹212.80, Lavender ₹235.12.

Do not buy kilograms for a first launch. We sell them, and for a proven scent they make sense, but a new line has not yet told you which scent sells. The batch maths for scaling a proven line to hundreds of candles per scent is in Bulk Fresh Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturers.

Building the line in seven steps

From an empty shelf to a launched five-scent line. You need a scale reading to 1 g, a thermometer, the 50 g oils, and about 20 jars for testing.

1
Buy the five roles at 50 g₹1,236.21 for 250 g of oil, plus a second 50 g of Eucalyptus Spearmint (₹212.40) for the triangle test in step 4: each test bottle has only 14 g left after its three loads, and the triangle needs two identical candles of one scent (the third, Verbena, comes from its leftover 14 g, enough at 6% or 8%). Add 3 kg of CSI 464 (₹1,522.20; the fifteen load-test candles alone take 2.07 kg), 20 jars and 20 C1 wicks: ₹4,976.81 for the whole test, ₹248.84 per jar before freight and GST.
2
Pour three loads per scent6% (9 g oil, 141 g wax), 8% (12 g, 138 g), 10% (15 g, 135 g) in 150 g jars, all on the same wick. Fifteen candles, labelled before pouring.
3
Cure and choose a load per scentNone of these five pages states a cure time; at least 48–72 hours, and longer for soy, is common practice. Cold-sniff at day 3 and day 7, burn from day 7, and keep the lowest load that reads well from the doorway at two hours. Loads can differ by scent.
4
Run the triangle test on the closest pairVerbena against Eucalyptus Spearmint, at their chosen loads. If they are confused, swap Verbena for Citrus Lemon or Lemongrass and Lime and retest.
5
Lock names, jar and labelsOne naming pattern, one vessel, back labels written from the stated notes. No brand names, no wellbeing claims.
6
Launch deep on the signature500 g of Cucumber Green Tea and 200 g of each of the others: 105 candles, ₹25,209.80 in materials.
7
Read the first month, then deepen one scentWhichever scent sells out first after the signature gets the next 500 g. Whichever sells slowest stays at 100 g, or is swapped for its alternate at the next release.

What the line cannot include yet

A clean scent many buyers ask for by name is one CSI does not list. Say so on day one.

Fresh linen, clean cotton and laundry. CSI does not list an oil under any of these names on 24 September 2026. They are covered one by one in Fresh Linen Fragrance Oil for Candle Making, Clean Cotton Fragrance Oil for Candle Making and Fresh Laundry Fragrance Oil for Candles, with the nearest substitutes and how to test them. If a laundry scent is central to your line, ask us on WhatsApp before you launch around the gap.

White tea. Not listed. Cucumber Green Tea is the only tea oil in the fresh range.

A second aquatic. The listing named "Freshwater Fragrance Oil Bath and Body Works Inspired" is CSI's product listing name; the oil is an interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the brand, and the brand must not appear on your label. Its page states no candle load, and its 500 g and 1 kg are out of stock on 24 September 2026, so it cannot be a core-line scent today. How its price compares with Blue Ocean is covered in Clean and Fresh Candle Fragrance Oils Wholesale.

Against our own interest: we could tell you to fill the line to eight or ten clean scents from the catalogue. With CSI's current fresh range, scents six to ten would crowd the same quadrants as one to five: another lemon, another citrus-herbal, another orange. Five clearly different scents sell a line better than ten similar ones, and cost you less in slow stock.

Growing the line by season

Once the core five are selling, add scents as limited releases rather than permanent members. Indian summer (roughly April to June) is the natural season for a clean line; the southwest monsoon (roughly June to September) suits the air and cool roles; winter (roughly December to February) is when a clean line needs a warmer edge. These are calendar patterns, not forecasts.

The CSI principle
One role per scent, one scent per role.
A clean collection earns its shelf space by giving every customer a different answer to the same question. When two scents answer it the same way, the line is one scent shorter than it looks.
"Five jars, five ideas of clean. If you need the labels to tell them apart, you have fewer than five."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils, wax, jars and wicks named here, and does not sell finished candles. This guide recommends a smaller line than our catalogue could fill, launch quantities in 100 g bottles rather than kilograms, and names the scents we do not stock.

Every price, pack size and per-gram figure was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are flagged as out of stock on that date and never presented as buyable. Notes, candle loads and IFRA or phthalate wording are quoted from each product page; where a jar page does not state a fill weight, we say so.

What is judgement: the five roles, the map positions, the separation test, names and label ideas, launch split and seasonal suggestions. CSI has no throw or sales data for these oils. Frequently asked questions

What scents should be in a clean candle collection?
One per role: a bright citrus opener, a green-tea signature, an aquatic, a cool herbal and a soft floral-herbal. At CSI that is Verbena, Cucumber Green Tea, Blue Ocean, Eucalyptus Spearmint and Lavender, all with a stated candle load up to 10%.
How many scents should a small candle brand launch with?
For a clean line, five is enough to give real choice without scents blurring together. Launch the signature deeper (500 g, 41 candles) and the others at 200 g (16 candles each), then deepen whichever sells first.
How do I make sure my candle scents don't smell the same?
Run a triangle test: pour two candles of one scent and one of another, and ask people who have not seen the labels to pick the odd one out, cold and after an hour's burn. If they cannot, swap one scent for an alternate further away in the family.
What does it cost to launch a five-scent candle line in India?
Worked example: 105 candles (500 g of the signature oil, 200 g of four others) in CSI 464 and 150 g golden-lid jars with C1 wicks cost ₹25,209.80 in materials, ₹240.09 per candle, excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST. Testing first costs ₹4,976.81 for up to 20 candles.
Is lavender a clean scent for candles?
It is widely treated as one: CSI's Lavender Fragrance Oil lists fresh lavender, herbal green notes and a soft musk base, with a stated load of 6–10% for candles. In a clean line it fills the soft role. Describe it by scent on your label, without wellbeing claims.
Can I include a fresh linen scent in my clean collection?
Not from CSI's list on 24 September 2026: there is no Fresh Linen, Clean Cotton or Laundry oil. Do not name a candle "Fresh Linen" unless the scent delivers it; see the Fresh Linen guide for the nearest substitutes and ask on WhatsApp whether one is planned.

About this guide: part of CSI's clean and fresh cluster. It designs a five-scent clean candle line by role, checks its balance, and prices a test and a launch. The general definition of clean and first-order shortlist are in the hub. CSI is not affiliated with any brand named in its own product listings.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil, Candle Dye Liquid, Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram), Lavender Fragrance Oil, White Matte Glass Jar. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the buying advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Yashvi Shah, Tina Raha, Priyanka Purohit, Soumili Gope, Shanu Shah. The reviews from Ashwini are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

Non-price figures: candle maths assume a 150 g candle with load as a percentage of total weight (8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax); candle counts are whole candles. Oil and wax ceilings are the product pages' wording and are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. None of the five oil pages states a cure time. Map positions, roles, names, label ideas, launch split and seasonal suggestions are editorial judgement; costs are worked examples excluding labour, freight, packaging and GST. Seasons are approximate; Christmas (25 December 2026) is a calendar date.
