Six questions for any supplier
A candle startup has a predictable buying pattern. In the first months it tests many scents in small quantities. Then it moves a few winners to production sizes. Then it reorders those regularly while testing new ones. A supplier that suits one stage and fails another will cost you more than one that is merely adequate at all three. The six questions below cover the whole pattern. Each can be answered from a supplier's own product pages or with a single message.

Notice what is missing: "cheapest per gram". Price matters, but it is best compared on a whole plan rather than a single oil, which the section after next does. A scoring worksheet
Turn the answers into a score so that a good answer on one question cannot hide a bad answer on another. We have deliberately left the columns blank, including for CSI. A supplier scoring itself is not evidence. Use the answers in the previous table as our evidence and score us as strictly as anyone else. If you weight entry size and continuity at 25% each, as suggested, a supplier that only sells kilos cannot win however cheap it is, and a supplier with lots of testers but no kilos in stock cannot win either. That is the point.
Price the same plan everywhere
Here is a realistic first three months of fragrance buying for a startup, priced at CSI. Month one tests ten scents. Month two moves four winners to 100 g. Month three stocks two of them as heroes at 500 g and keeps two as core at 100 g. The blank column is for any other supplier's price for the same oils and sizes, or their nearest equivalents.

At CSI, three months of fragrance costs ₹9,786.48 for 1,950 g of oil. The 1,800 g bought in months two and three makes 112.50 candles of 200 g at 8%, and the 150 g of testers becomes ten test candles. A few things to watch when you fill in the other column. If a supplier has no 15 g, price month one at its smallest size and see what it does to the total. If a supplier's 500 g is cheaper per gram, month three will show it. If a supplier has no kilo in stock for a hero, note it: the plan will stall in month four.
Red flags
Some answers should end the evaluation early, whoever gives them. None of these is about a specific supplier; they are patterns to watch for.
