Commercial Fragrance · Diwali Buying
The Diwali question is not only which scents but how much of each to buy. Too little and you are reordering in the pour window; too much and the kilo you did not need sits in the cupboard until the wedding season. This page turns a mixed festive range into kilos, separates committed orders from speculative stock, and prices the packs.
1.04 kg
of fragrance oil per 100 pieces of a mixed Diwali range (40 × 200 g jars, 40 × 85 g tins, 20 × 50 g hearts) at 8% with a 5% allowance · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil should I buy for Diwali? For a mixed range of 40 jars, 40 tins and 20 velvet hearts per 100 pieces at 8%, 992 g per 100 pieces, or about 1.04 kg with a 5% allowance. 300 pieces need about 3.12 kg; 1,000 need about 10.4 kg. See quantities by run size.

Should I buy extra oil for Diwali walk-in sales? Only on purpose. Buy for committed orders first, then add a speculative buffer you choose — 10% or 20% — and know what you will do with the leftover. See committed vs speculative.

Is 1 kg the cheapest way to buy festive oils? Not always. Saffron Cedarwood's 500 g costs ₹5.17 a gram; its 1 kg ₹6.87. Cinnamon saves 10.0% at 1 kg; Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) and Palo Santo are flat. See pack sizes.

When should I buy Diwali fragrance oil? Early. With Diwali on Sunday 8 November, the plan in Diwali gift candle production orders production oil around 5 October. We do not publish restock dates or courier times, so confirm stock on WhatsApp before you commit.
The short answer
Per 100 pieces: 40 × 200 g jars (640 g) + 40 × 85 g tins (272 g) + 20 × 50 g hearts (80 g) = 992 g at 8%; 1,041.6 g with 5%.
By run size: With 5%: 100 pieces 1,041.6 g · 300 pieces 3,124.8 g · 600 pieces 6,249.6 g · 1,000 pieces 10,416 g. Add any speculative buffer on top.
Pack quirks: Saffron Cedarwood: two 500 g (₹5,168.40) beat one 1 kg (₹6,867.60). Cinnamon: 1 kg 10.0% cheaper per gram than 100 g. Gilli Mitti, Palo Santo: flat.

Dark bars are the oil for committed orders at 8% with a 5% allowance; the open cap is a 20% speculative buffer for walk-in and online Diwali sales. The buffer is your commercial decision, not a figure we can give you; the chart shows how quickly it adds kilos at larger run sizes.
Straight answer
How much fragrance oil should I buy for Diwali candle production?
Work from your range, not from a round number. A typical mixed Diwali range — per 100 pieces, 40 White Matte jars at 200 g, 40 tins at 85 g and 20 velvet hearts at 50 g — needs 992 g of oil per 100 pieces at 8%, or about 1.04 kg with a 5% allowance for pour loss and test burns. So 300 pieces need about 3.1 kg and 1,000 pieces about 10.4 kg, split across your scents. Buy that for the orders you have. Then decide, deliberately, how much speculative stock to add for walk-in and online Diwali sales: 10% or 20% is a common way to think about it, but it is your call, and every extra kilo should have a plan for after 8 November — the November–February wedding season is the obvious one. Finally, buy each oil at its cheapest size: Saffron Cedarwood is ₹5.17 a gram at 500 g and ₹6.87 at 1 kg, so buy two 500 g; Cinnamon is 10.0% cheaper at 1 kg; Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) is flat, so top up with 100 g. A 300-piece range in Cinnamon, Saffron Cedarwood and Dark Vanilla Oud prices at ₹56,162.80 in materials. Confirm stock on WhatsApp before you commit; we do not publish restock dates.
One line: about a kilo of oil per 100 mixed pieces, bought for committed orders first and at each oil's cheapest pack size.
The three oils in this page's worked range, as testers: Cinnamon 15 g ₹106.20, Saffron Cedarwood 15 g ₹103.84 and Dark Vanilla Oud 15 g ₹105.02 — ₹315.06. Test before you buy kilos; the production quantities follow in the priced range.

Kilos by run size

Diwali ranges are rarely one format. Your oil calculation should not be either.

Most makers sell a Diwali range, not a single product: a proper jar candle for gift boxes, a smaller tin for add-ons and office desks, and a small velvet heart for return gifts and hampers. The working mix on this page is 40 White Matte jars at 200 g, 40 Golden Aluminium Tins at 85 g and 20 velvet hearts at 50 g per 100 pieces, all at 8%. Replace the mix with your own; the method stays the same.

Per 100 pieces of the mixed range · 8% load · fills: jar 200 g (series working fill), tin 85 g and heart 50 g (listed)
Where the oil goes in a mixed range
Format Pieces per 100 Oil each Oil Wax each Wax
200 g jar 40 16 g 640 g 184 g 7,360 g
85 g tin 40 6.8 g 272 g 78.2 g 3,128 g
50 g velvet heart 20 4 g 80 g 46 g 920 g
Total per 100 100 992 g 11,408 g

The jars carry nearly two-thirds of the oil (640 g of the 992 g) although they are only 40% of the pieces. That is why a range that leans toward jars needs much more oil than one that leans toward tins and hearts, and why the mix matters more than the piece count. For a range that is all 200 g jars, use 1,600 g per 100 pieces instead; for all tins, 680 g; for all hearts, 400 g.

Mixed range as above · 8% load · 5% allowance · total across all scents
Oil to buy by run size
Run size Oil at 8% With 5% allowance Per scent, 2 scents Per scent, 3 scents Wax with 5%
100 pieces 992 g 1,041.6 g 520.8 g 347.2 g 11,978.4 g
300 pieces 2,976 g 3,124.8 g 1,562.4 g 1,041.6 g 35,935.2 g
600 pieces 5,952 g 6,249.6 g 3,124.8 g 2,083.2 g 71,870.4 g
1,000 pieces 9,920 g 10,416 g 5,208 g 3,472 g 119,784 g

The per-scent columns assume an even split. If one scent will sell more — a sandalwood or a spice often leads a Diwali range — weight it, and see the 500-piece split guide for how weighting changes packs and cost. The 5% allowance is a working assumption for pour loss, jug residue, top-ups and test burns; the bulk wedding quantity guide explains what it covers and when 3% is enough.

Buy wax, jars and tins before you settle the oils
The wax, containers and wicks for a mixed range do not depend on the scents. Ordering them now takes them off the critical path while you test. With Diwali on Sunday 8 November, the Diwali back-schedule puts the production oil order around 5 October and the pour window between 12 and 17 October, all as working assumptions.

Committed vs speculative stock

Every Diwali maker faces the same question in October: buy for the orders I have, or for the ones I hope to get?

Split your plan into two lines. Committed is everything with a customer attached: corporate orders, pre-booked hampers, stockist orders. Buy oil for all of it, with the 5% allowance. Speculative is stock for walk-in, exhibition and online sales that you expect but cannot count. That buffer is a commercial decision only you can make; we do not have data on how many candles any maker sells at Diwali. What we can show is what each buffer adds in oil, so you can see the stake before you place it.

Mixed range · 8% · 5% allowance on committed · buffer applied on top · your decision, not a recommendation
What a speculative buffer adds
Committed pieces Committed oil +10% buffer +20% buffer Extra oil at +20%
100 1,041.6 g 1,145.8 g 1,249.9 g 208.3 g
300 3,124.8 g 3,437.3 g 3,749.8 g 625 g
600 6,249.6 g 6,874.6 g 7,499.5 g 1,249.9 g
1,000 10,416 g 11,457.6 g 12,499.2 g 2,083.2 g

Two rules keep the buffer honest. First, buffer only your proven scents: put the speculative kilos on the oil that has sold for you before, not on a new scent you are trying for the first time. Second, buffer in oil, not in poured candles, where you can. Unpoured oil in a sealed bottle can move to the wedding season or next year's range; a poured Diwali candle with a festive label is harder to sell in December. If you can pour to order during the festive weeks, hold the buffer as oil and wax.

The buffer that became the leftover. A maker buys 20% extra on all five scents "to be safe", sells through two, and finishes Diwali with three part-kilos of oils nobody asked for. Put the whole buffer on one or two proven scents, and you finish with oil you can use.

Buying each festive oil at the right size

Diwali oils are not priced alike across sizes. Some reward the kilo, some are flat, and one pair is cheaper at 500 g than at 1 kg. The table covers five festive candidates, each in stock at every listed size. We have not published throw measurements for any oil; these are chosen for festive fit and price structure. Mogra and Rajnigandha are out of stock in every size on the 24 September pull and are not offered.

Per gram at each size · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Festive oils — where each one is cheapest
Oil 15 g 100 g 500 g 1 kg Cheapest way to buy ~1 kg
Cinnamon ₹7.08 ₹5.90 ₹5.90 ₹5.31 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g · ₹5,640.40
Saffron Cedarwood ₹6.92 ₹6.96 ₹5.17 ₹6.87 2 × 500 g + 1 × 50 g · ₹5,522.40
Dark Vanilla Oud ₹7.00 ₹5.90 ₹5.69 ₹5.69 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g · ₹6,011.00

Palo Santo ₹7.08 ₹6.02 ₹6.02 ₹6.02 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g · ₹6,318.90

Saffron Cedarwood is the case to remember. Its 500 g is ₹2,584.20 and its 1 kg ₹6,867.60, so for about a kilo you should buy two 500 g bottles for ₹5,168.40, not one kilo — a saving of ₹1,699.20 on the same oil. Cinnamon goes the conventional way: ₹5.90 a gram at 100 g and 500 g, ₹5.31 at 1 kg, a 10.0% break at the kilo. Dark Vanilla Oud is ₹5.90 at 100 g and ₹5.69 at 500 g and 1 kg. Gilli Mitti is ₹8.96 at every size from 50 g, and Palo Santo ₹6.02 — for those two, the pack mix is only about covering the grams.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We list the 1 kg of Saffron Cedarwood at ₹6,867.60. For a Diwali run needing about 2 kg, four 500 g bottles cost ₹10,336.80 and two kilos cost ₹13,735.20 — ₹3,398.40 more for the same oil. Buy the 500 g. More generally, for 52 of 91 oils the kilo costs within 1% per gram of the 100 g; price every size before you assume the biggest is cheapest.

A priced 300-piece Diwali range

Here is the mixed range at 300 pieces, 100 in each of three scents — Cinnamon, Saffron Cedarwood and Dark Vanilla Oud — which means 120 jars, 120 tins and 60 velvet hearts in total. Each scent needs 1,041.6 g of oil with 5% allowance; wax is 34,224 g, or 35,935.2 g with 5%. This is committed stock only; add your buffer on top.

1

That is ₹187.21 per piece on average across jars, tins and hearts, before labour, packaging, freight and GST. The oil is ₹17,173.80 of the total; the wax (₹21,564.00) and the White Matte jars (₹8,496.00) are each larger. A 20% speculative buffer on this range is about 625 g of oil. Held on your most proven scent rather than spread across all three — say Cinnamon — that is 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g for ₹3,752.40. After Diwali: the leftover plan

Whatever you buy, some oil will be left on 9 November. Plan for it now. The November–February wedding season starts almost immediately, and warm florals, sandalwood and vanilla-oud cross over well into wedding favours and gifts; wedding favour candles and the bulk wedding quantity guide pick up from here. Spice-led oils such as Cinnamon are more seasonal and are better sold through in winter ranges. Keep leftover oil sealed, cool and out of direct light; storage life is not stated in our published data, so ask on WhatsApp for guidance on a specific oil.

The CSI principle
Buy for your orders, buffer on purpose, and know where the leftover goes before you buy it.
The kilo you did not need is not a saving. It is stock you paid for in October and will use in December — if you planned for it. Decide the buffer, the scent it sits on and its next use before you place the Diwali order.

For choosing which oils to put in the range in the first place, the gifting hub maps scents to recipients. For buying volumes beyond the listed packs, the wholesale guide explains the quote route, and the bulk supplier checklist covers what to confirm before relying on one supplier for the whole festive season.

About a kilo per hundred pieces. Buy it for the orders you have, then decide the rest on purpose.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A Diwali buying page is where a supplier would normally push extra kilos. This one tells you to buy for committed orders first, to hold any buffer on proven scents, and to buy Saffron Cedarwood in 500 g bottles because our own 1 kg costs more per gram.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Tins, velvet hearts, wicks and wick stickers are from the 24–25 September 2026 catalogue pull; the White Matte Glass Jar is the figure verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Quantities and totals are plain arithmetic; pack mixes are practical in-stock combinations.

The range mix (40 / 40 / 20 per 100), the 8% load, the 5% allowance and the 10% and 20% buffers are working assumptions to illustrate the method, not recommendations about how much you will sell. We have not published throw measurements, restock dates, courier times or storage lives. For stock checks, quotes, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documents, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for 100 candles for Diwali?
It depends on the mix. For 40 × 200 g jars, 40 × 85 g tins and 20 × 50 g hearts at 8%, 992 g, or about 1.04 kg with a 5% allowance. For 100 jars at 200 g alone, 1,600 g (1,680 g with 5%); for 100 tins, 680 g (714 g).
How many kg of fragrance oil for 1,000 candles?
For the mixed range on this page, about 10.4 kg with a 5% allowance. For 1,000 × 200 g jars at 8%, 16 kg (16.8 kg with 5%); for 1,000 × 85 g tins, 6.8 kg (7.14 kg).
Should I buy extra fragrance oil for Diwali?
Buy for committed orders first. Then choose a speculative buffer — 10% or 20% are common ways to think about it — and put it on proven scents only, ideally held as unpoured oil so it can move to the wedding season if it does not sell as Diwali candles.
Which fragrance oils are cheaper in bigger packs?
Only some. Cinnamon is 10.0% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than at 100 g; Saffron Cedarwood's 500 g (₹5.17/g) is cheaper than both its 100 g and its 1 kg; Gilli Mitti and Palo Santo are flat. Across the catalogue, 52 of 91 oils cost within 1% per gram at 1 kg and 100 g.
When should I order fragrance oil for Diwali 2026?
Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026. A plan with a 14-day cure and a pour window of 12–17 October needs the production oil ordered around 5 October. CSI does not publish restock dates or courier times, so confirm stock on WhatsApp before you commit.
What can I do with leftover Diwali fragrance oil?
Use it in the November–February wedding season or winter ranges. Warm florals, sandalwood and vanilla-oud cross over well; spice-led oils are more seasonal. Keep bottles sealed, cool and out of direct light, and ask CSI about storage for a specific oil.
