I Need Fragrance Oils That I Can Test in 100 g and Later Reorder in 1 Kg, 5 Kg and Larger Quantities — How Should I Choose a Supplier?
Aktie
Does CSI sell 5 kg of fragrance oil? The listed sizes go up to 1 kg per oil. Five kilos is five 1 kg bottles at the listed price, or a quote on WhatsApp for the quantity. No discount figure is published.
Is 1 kg cheaper than 100 g per gram? Of the 72 oils in stock at both, 39 are within 1% per gram, 14 save 1–5%, 7 save 5–10% and 12 save 10% or more. None is more than 1% dearer. See the price step.
Which oils have a break in the ladder? On the pull date, 7 oils were in stock at 100 g but not 1 kg, including Vetiver and Wild Berry; Chocolate Fudge was in stock at 1 kg but not 100 g; Sacred Sandal Ember had only its 500 g. See breaks.
Continuity: the ladder test
Scaling a scent is a sequence: a small quantity to test, a first production quantity, then a regular monthly quantity that may run to several kilos. The risk is a break in that sequence. A size is out of stock when you need it, the next size costs more per gram, or the supplier cannot provide the monthly quantity at all. When that happens, you either re-test a substitute or change the scent your customers know. The ladder test checks for breaks before you invest in a test. Once a scent is in production, avoiding stockouts on best-sellers and how much inventory to keep take over.
| Oil | 100 g | 500 g | 1 kg | 5 kg | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jasmine | ₹4.30/g | ₹3.92/g | ₹3.92/g | ₹19,615.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous; 1 kg 8.8% cheaper |
| Neroli | ₹6.66/g | ₹6.66/g | ₹6.66/g | ₹33,276.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous; flat |
| Ylang Ylang Flower | ₹5.90/g | ₹5.43/g | ₹5.31/g | ₹26,550.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous; 1 kg 10.0% cheaper |
| Verbena | ₹5.90/g | ₹4.96/g | ₹4.72/g | ₹23,600.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous; 1 kg 20.0% cheaper |
| Palo Santo | ₹6.02/g | ₹6.02/g | ₹6.02/g | ₹30,090.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous; flat |
| Vetiver | ₹6.00/g | ₹5.80/g | Out of stock | Quote on WhatsApp | Break: 1 kg out of stock |
| Saffron Cedarwood | ₹6.96/g | ₹5.17/g | ₹6.87/g | ₹34,338.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Continuous, but 500 g beats 1 kg |
| Sacred Sandal Ember | Out of stock | ₹8.00/g | Out of stock | Quote on WhatsApp | Break: only 500 g in stock |
| Chocolate Fudge | Out of stock | ₹3.96/g | ₹3.96/g | ₹19,824.00 (5 × 1 kg) or quote | Break: 100 g out of stock |
Five of the nine have an unbroken path. Saffron Cedarwood is continuous but unusual: its 500 g (₹5.17/g) is far cheaper than its 1 kg (₹6.87/g), so at scale you would buy it in 500 g multiples. The last three have breaks on the pull date. Across the catalogue, 7 oils in stock at 100 g had no 1 kg in stock: Vetiver, Freshwater (BBW Inspired), Moca Coffee, Into The Night (BBW Inspired), Grapefruit Oleo, Butterfly (BBW Inspired), Wild Berry. None of these is a reason to avoid the oil forever; they are reasons to ask about restock before you test.
The price step from 100 g to 1 kg
The second continuity test is price. A supplier whose per-gram price rises as you scale is penalising your success. On CSI's listed catalogue, the per-gram price from 100 g to 1 kg either holds or falls. Here is the distribution for the 72 oils in stock at both sizes on the pull date:
| 1 kg vs 100 g, per gram | Oils | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| More than 1% dearer | 0 | None in stock at both sizes |
| Within ±1% (flat) | 39 | Neroli ₹6.66 → ₹6.66; Palo Santo ₹6.02 → ₹6.02; Sandalwood; Blue Ocean |
| 1–5% cheaper | 14 | Lavender 3.3%; Roasted Coffee 4.2%; Bergamot Amber 2.9%; Japanese Cherry Blossom 3.2% |
| 5–10% cheaper | 7 | Jasmine 8.8%; Citrus Lemon; Fresh Strawberries; Cinnamon Vanilla; Cucumber Green Tea |
| 10% or more cheaper | 12 | Verbena 20.0%; Mango Coconut; Eucalyptus Spearmint; Lemongrass and Lime; Ylang Ylang Flower 10.0% |
The catalogue-wide figures, which include oils with a size out of stock, say the same: of 91 oils listing both sizes, 52 are within ±1% and 24 save 5% or more, while a few (such as Love Spell and Pomegranate Splash) cost fractionally more at 1 kg. For a scale-up plan this is good news in one way and a caution in another. Good: your 100 g test cost is a fair preview of your production cost per gram. Caution: for most oils, the kilo will not make the candle cheaper. Build your pricing on the 100 g rate and treat any kilo saving as a bonus. Price per kg lists the kilo price of every oil.
Breaks in the ladder
Four kinds of break turn up when you price every size of every oil. Each has a practical answer.
| Break | Example | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Production size out of stock | Vetiver: 100 g ₹600.00 in stock, 1 kg out of stock | Ask for a restock date; meanwhile the 500 g (₹2,900.00) is in stock |
| Test size out of stock | Chocolate Fudge: 100 g out of stock, 500 g and 1 kg in stock | Test at 15 g (₹93.22) or 50 g (₹198.24) instead |
| Only one size in stock | Sacred Sandal Ember: only 500 g (₹3,999.00) in stock | Test from the 500 g only if you are ready to commit to it |
| Mid-ladder cheaper than the top | Saffron Cedarwood: 500 g ₹5.17/g, 1 kg ₹6.87/g | Scale in 500 g multiples, not kilos |
| No stock at any size | Rajnigandha, Mogra and five others | Do not test until restocked; ask on WhatsApp |
Beyond 1 kg
CSI's listed maximum is 1 kg per oil. For 5 kg, 10 kg or a regular monthly quantity, there are two routes. You can order several 1 kg bottles at the listed price: five kilos of Verbena is ₹23,600.00, five of Neroli ₹33,276.00. Or you can message CSI on WhatsApp for a quote on the quantity. No discount figure is published, so do not plan on one; ask. Either way, ask the questions below before a 5 kg-a-month scent goes into your launch plan.
A scale path, priced
Here is what the path from test to regular production looks like for two oils with continuous ladders: one with a large kilo saving, one flat. Costs per candle assume 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8%.
| Stage | Pack | Cost | ₹/g | Oil per candle | Candles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test | 100 g | ₹590.00 | ₹5.90 | ₹94.40 | 6.25 |
| First production | 1 kg | ₹4,720.00 | ₹4.72 | ₹75.52 | 62.50 |
| Monthly at 5 kg (listed) | 5 × 1 kg | ₹23,600.00 | ₹4.72 | ₹75.52 | 312.50 |
| Stage | Pack | Cost | ₹/g | Oil per candle | Candles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Test | 100 g | ₹665.52 | ₹6.66 | ₹106.48 | 6.25 |
| First production | 1 kg | ₹6,655.20 | ₹6.66 | ₹106.48 | 62.50 |
| Monthly at 5 kg (listed) | 5 × 1 kg | ₹33,276.00 | ₹6.66 | ₹106.48 | 312.50 |
Verbena's oil cost per candle falls from ₹94.40 at the test size to ₹75.52 at 1 kg, so scaling makes each candle ₹18.88 cheaper. Neroli's barely moves (₹106.48 to ₹106.48). Both are good scale-up candidates, for different reasons: Verbena rewards volume; Neroli gives you a price that will not surprise you. What matters most is that both are the same listing at every size, so the scent you tested is the scent you pour at five kilos.
| Pack | Price | Per gram | Candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹106.20 | ₹7.08 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹330.40 | ₹6.61 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹590.00 | ₹5.90 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹2,478.00 | ₹4.96 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹4,720.00 | ₹4.72 | 62.50 |
| Pack | Price | Per gram | Candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹118.00 | ₹7.87 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹342.20 | ₹6.84 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹665.52 | ₹6.66 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹3,327.60 | ₹6.66 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹6,655.20 | ₹6.66 | 62.50 |
| Pack | Price | Per gram | Candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹187.62 | ₹12.51 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹354.00 | ₹7.08 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹600.00 | ₹6.00 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹2,900.00 | ₹5.80 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹5,664.00 | ₹5.66 | Out of stock |
For the rest of the scale-up decision, sampling before a wholesale order and a sample set before buying 1 kg cover the testing end, and moving to one supplier and choosing a long-term supplier cover the supplier end.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page reports our own ladder breaks on the pull date — oils missing a 1 kg, a 100 g, or every size — and advises checking the production size before testing, even though that means some of our oils should wait.
Every oil and wax price and every stock status on this page comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Stock changes; the counts are a snapshot. The listed maximum is 1 kg per oil; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp and no discount figure is published. Per-gram figures and distributions are arithmetic, shown so you can check them.
