Should I Order Samples from Multiple Wick Series When Size Changes Alone Cannot Solve My Burn Problem?
Aktie
Will I use all of it? No. In our worked example you burn about ₹319.93 of the basket and leave ₹1,309.29 on the shelf, mostly wood and roll. That is the price of answering the question in one round instead of five.
How do I test a basket? Screen one candle of each construction for two full sessions, then burn the survivors three candles each to the end of the jar. How many to carry forward is the candidate-count post's question.
What if none of our wicks works? Then the fix is the formula, or a wick we don't sell: a finer size step, or a series whose specifications are published. We'll tell you that plainly on WhatsApp.

Your situation, made precise
Here is the situation in this page's terms. You have stepped through the sizes of one wick construction (at CSI, usually Eco C1 → C2, or C2 → Cotton Braided) and the burn problem moves but doesn't go: the larger size soots, mushrooms or runs a flame that grows; the smaller one tunnels or drowns. You now suspect the construction, not the size. For the worked example we use a labelled case: your own 7.5 cm inside jar, a 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g fragrance + 138 g wax, pool area 44.18 cm². CSI lists no 7.5 cm jar, so this is your jar, measured.
Before you widen the search, check that your size test was a fair one: three candles per size, the same pour and cure, burned to the end with each third judged (the between-sizes hub sets out that matrix and the cheaper options to try first, such as a lower load or a pair). If you have already tried those, this page picks up where it leaves off.
Before you buy a basket: causes, ranked
The ranking is our judgement for "sizes bracket the jar but neither fits". User causes are free to rule out; test-design causes waste the basket if you don't; formulation causes may make the basket unnecessary.
| Cause | What you'd see | Discriminating test | Fix | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Untrimmed wick on the larger size (user) | Soot and a cap that clear after a trim | 5–6 mm trim, 4 h in still air | Trim; care label | Nothing |
| 2. Draught (user) | One-sided soot or pool | Fans and AC off | Placement | Nothing |
| 3. Short first burn on the smaller size (user) | A collar that never catches up | Fresh candle, full first session | Re-judge it | Nothing |
| 4. One candle per size (test design) | Results that flip between repeats | Three per size, same pour | Repeat fairly | Wax and oil only |
| 5. Off-centre wicks (test design) | Soot and collar on opposite sides | Holders on every candle | Centring | ₹118.00 for 5 holders |
| 6. Load, heavy oil or dye (formulation) | Larger size clean in a light oil or undyed | Same wick, one point less load, or undyed | Formula step | Less oil |
| 7. Construction mismatch (formulation: wick) | Sizes trade soot for tunnel with no middle, in clean conditions | The basket below | Another construction | ₹1,629.22 |
| 8. Jar geometry (formulation: jar) | Every wick fails the same third | Section log across the basket | Jar change | Your jar |
Cause 6 is the one most worth pausing on, because it can make the basket unnecessary. Heavy, vanilla-rich or resinous oils and higher loads commonly build more carbon on the same wick (a tendency; no CSI oil page gives wick data in the text we captured). Whether to change construction or formula first is the construction-or-formula post's decision, priced both ways.
The CSI sample basket, pack by pack
CSI's wick list is short, which makes a complete basket cheap. The table is every wick construction we list, the smallest pack in stock on 7 October 2026, and whether it belongs in a basket for a 7.5 cm jar. "Unknown" means the page states no size you could place on the C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided ladder.
| Construction | Smallest pack | ₹ | Per wick | Page states | In the basket? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 (pre-tabbed) | 20 (10-pack out of stock) | ₹118.00 | ₹5.90 | no size or jar range | Yes, unless you own it |
| Eco C2 (pre-tabbed) | 10 | ₹94.40 | ₹9.44 | no size or jar range | Yes, unless you own it |
| Cotton Braided (pre-tabbed) | 10 | ₹120.00 | ₹12.00 | "exceeding 8 cm" | Yes, one screen candle |
| Performance Wooden | 10 | ₹590.00 | ₹59.00 | one listing, no widths | Yes |
| Braided Wick Roll | 61 m + 100 tabs (only pack) | ₹706.82 | ₹7.07 a tab | "cut the wick to the desired length"; no braid size | Yes, or last |
| Eco Braided Wicks | 5 m | ₹472.00 | by length | "the perfect solution for large diameter container jars" | Only for wide jars |
| Eco Candle Wicks Loose | 5 m | ₹413.00 | by length | "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters"; untabbed | Only for jars near 5 cm |
| Basket (first five) | ₹1,629.22 | 150 wicks or tabs | All seven: ₹2,514.22 | ||
Argued against our own interest: you probably don't need all of it. If your size test used C1 and C2, you own them, and the basket is ₹1,416.82. If your jar is narrower than 8 cm, Cotton Braided is above your size range on its own page's wording, and one screening candle is all it deserves. And because our tabbed cotton wicks cost the same per wick at every pack, a bigger "sample" buys you nothing but stock. Wood and the roll are 80% of the basket; they are also the two most different from what you've already tried, which is why they belong in it.
One naming trap: CSI's "Eco Candle Wicks" is our own listing name. It is not another wick maker's numbered ECO series, and the sizes are not interchangeable with any of them. Similar names on different wicks are not similar wicks (the equivalent-size warning).
The construction matrix: screen, then finals
A basket of five constructions doesn't mean fifteen full-life candles. The matrix below screens one candle of each for two full sessions (the top third, where gross misfits show), then carries the survivors into finals of three candles each, burned to the end. In the worked example three constructions survive. How many you should carry forward, and how to schedule them on your bench, belongs to the candidate-count post.
| Construction | Screen | Drop at screen if | Finals (worked example) | What a pass would mean |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 | 1 | Collar after session 2 | Dropped (tunnels) | — |
| Eco C2 (often your control) | 1 | Continuous smoke | 3 | The size test was unfair: re-check causes 1–5 |
| Cotton Braided | 1 | Smoke or deep pool by hour 2 | Dropped (too strong) | — |
| Performance Wooden | 1 | Collar, or goes out repeatedly | 3 | Wood suits this jar and oil |
| Braided roll (your cut) | 1 | Collar or smoke | 3 | That braid at that length suits it |
| Candles | 5 screen + 9 finals = 14 | 168 g oil, 1,932 g wax | ||
| Item | Need | Buy | ₹ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wick basket | 14 wicks across five constructions | C1 20, C2 10, CB 10, wooden 10, roll | ₹1,629.22 |
| Wax: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (or yours) | 1,932 g | 2 × 1 kg (68 g spare) | ₹1,014.80 |
| Centring | 14 holders | Wick Centering Device × 3 packs (check the wooden tab fits the 4 mm hole; if not, use a sticker and a guide) | ₹354.00 |
| Kit total | basket + wax + holders | ₹2,998.02 | |
| Oil, only if bought | 168 g | Lavender 2 × 100 g (32 g spare) | ₹1,080.00 (kit with oil ₹4,078.02) |
When the answer isn't on our list
A basket covers every construction we sell. It can't cover what we don't. There are three honest cases where a non-CSI wick may be what your candle needs, and we'd rather name them than lose your trust later.
| Situation | Why our list can't solve it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your candle needs a size between two of ours | No sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2 or between C2 and Cotton Braided; one wooden width | Try a formula step or a pair first; then a maker with finer steps |
| You need published wick specifications | Our pages state no braid size, coating, core or length for the Eco wicks, and no braid size for the roll | Ask us what we know; if your buyer requires a spec sheet we can't give, source a series that publishes one |
| A customer or contract names a specific series | We don't sell other makers' numbered series (CD, ECO, HTP, LX and the like) | Buy that series from its supplier; don't treat any CSI wick as its equivalent without a full test |
If you do go outside our list, the rules don't change: a new wick from anyone is a new wick, tested three candles to the end in your jar and oil, with lots compared before production. Comparing two suppliers' wicks fairly means recording more than pool width (what to record beyond the melt pool), and building a matrix that doesn't mean buying every wick you see is the wick-matrix post's method.
From basket to production
Once one construction passes its finals, production wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + a defect allowance). Worked example, labelled: 300 candles a month at 2% is 306 wicks. If C2 wins: 3 × 100 + 10 = 310 for ₹2,926.40. If wood wins: 3 × 100 + 10 = 310 for ₹12,980.00, the only tabbed wick that gets cheaper per wick in bigger packs. If the roll wins: four rolls give 400 tabs for ₹2,827.28, plus your cutting time. The full formula with safety stock and lead time is the purchase-quantity post; CSI publishes no lead times, so ask on WhatsApp. Before a big order, decide how many repeats you need and write down what you're ordering (specifying a wholesale wick order), because a basket wick you can't describe is a wick you can't reorder.
Argued against our own interest: keep the spare basket wicks labelled and stored with your test records instead of using them up in production; they are your reference if a later lot burns differently (comparing a new lot with the development sample).
What to buy, and what to skip

Skip for now: Eco Braided and the loose 2-inch wick unless your jar is wide or near 5 cm; any 50-, 100- or 1,000-pack before finals pass; and a second basket after a clean sweep of failures. For a single candidate that only mushrooms, whether to change size or construction is the mushroom size-or-construction post.
CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells every wick in the basket, not finished candles. This page still tells you that you'll leave most of the basket on the shelf, that you may already own two of its packs, that our pages state no wick specifications beyond what is quoted, and when a wick from another supplier may be the honest answer.
Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026, with stock checked per pack: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock and is not offered; every other item priced here is in stock on that date. Page wording is quoted and attributed, including the Eco page's "minimal soot or smoke", Cotton Braided's "exceeding 8 cm", the wooden wick's "less smoke and soot" and the roll's "cut the wick to the desired length".
The 7.5 cm jar, 150 g fill, survivors, 6 g/h, 300 candles a month, 2% allowance and the day count are labelled worked examples; the "in the basket" column and the non-CSI cases are our judgement. Fragrance effects are tendencies, not CSI test data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Non-price figures: "size changes alone cannot solve" is the reader's finding (title). The 7.5 cm inside jar (the reader's own; CSI lists none) and 150 g fill at 8% (12 g oil + 138 g wax, load as a percentage of total weight) are labelled worked examples. Wax ceiling as the page states (Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%), a formulation limit, not a regulatory one; Lavender's page states 6–10% for candles. Trim 5–6 mm, flame band about 2.5–5 cm, the 1 cm wax floor and about one hour per 2.5 cm of diameter (7.5 cm ≈ 3.0 h) are common rules of thumb. Basket usage and survivors are illustrative. Costs are materials only and exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
