CSI Collection Buying · Strong Masculine
Strong comes from a heavy base, a full melt pool and a proper cure, not from pouring to the ceiling. Here are five dense masculine CSI oils ranked on their stated structure, the load each can take, and how to wick them.
9%
the page-stated ceiling for the two oils that claim strong throw, even in a 13% wax · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which masculine fragrance oils are strongest for candles? CSI has no throw measurements, so we rank on structure: how much of each oil's stated pyramid is heavy base material (woods, resin, oud, amber, tobacco, smoke, musk) and what the page says. Two pages make an explicit strength claim: the Mahogany Teakwood listing ("Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%") and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco ("strong throw at lower loads"). Woody Oud, Midnight Bakhoor Royale and Saffron Cedarwood complete the five we test here, chosen for their heavy stated bases.

Should I use the maximum load for a strong candle? No. Use the lowest load that passes. Two of these five stop at 9% on their own pages, so 9% is your ceiling even in a wax rated to 13%. More oil than the wick can burn cleanly gives you soot, not strength.

Do dense oils need a bigger wick? Often one step up, but only the melt-pool test can say. Pour the 8% candle with a C1 and a C2, burn both two to three hours, and let the melt pool decide. C1 and C2 are starting points; jar diameter decides.

What does a test cost? The five oils are ₹2,313.40; with 3 kg of wax, 20 jars, C1 and C2 wicks and a centring device, the basket is ₹6,054.00.
The short answer
Strong-structured picks: the Mahogany Teakwood listing and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco (page-stated strong throw, 7–9%), Woody Oud (6–10%), Midnight Bakhoor Royale and Saffron Cedarwood (no candle load stated).
Load: within the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page maximum; start at 7% on the 9%-capped oils. The page says strong at lower loads, so believe it.
Wick: test C1 and C2 side by side at 8%; step up one size if the melt pool is short, down if it soots.
Money: each extra 1% of Mahogany Teakwood costs ₹13.20 a candle; a C2 instead of a C1 costs ₹3.54.
Dense oil, weak or messy burn: change one thing at a time Start: 150 g candle at 8% (7% for oils capped at 9%), C1 wick, cured at least a week. Burn 2–3 hours. 1 · Melt pool at 2–3 hours reaches the glass edge? NO Wick up one step C1 → C2, or braided / wooden. Keep the load. YES 2 · Soot, mushrooming, large flicker? YES Wick down one step or lower load 1%. Dense oil can overload the wick; trim to 5 mm. NO 3 · Doorway scent at 30 and 60 minutes? GOOD Keep it. This is your load and wick. Retest once to confirm. WEAK 4 · Cured at least 7 days? Retest at 14. STILL WEAK 5 · Load up one step only if below the lower of wax and oil ceiling. STILL WEAK 6 · Change the oil, not the rules. Ceilings: CSI 464 up to 10%; CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%; the oil page's own maximum wins if lower (9% for Mahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco). C1/C2 are starting points: jar diameter decides the wick.
How to diagnose a dense masculine oil that burns weak or messy. The order matters: fix the melt pool first, then soot, then cure time, and only then load, because a short melt pool or an overloaded wick will make any oil seem weak. The load step never goes above the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page's own maximum.
Straight answer
I want masculine candles with a strong throw. Which CSI oils are built for it, how much should I load, and do I need a different wick?
Test five oils with the heaviest stated structure: the Mahogany Teakwood listing and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco (both pages claim strong throw and both cap the load at 9%), Woody Oud (6–10%), and Midnight Bakhoor Royale and Saffron Cedarwood (dense incense and smoke-amber bases, no candle load stated, so the wax ceiling governs). Pour each at three loads inside its ceiling, starting at 7% for the two 9%-capped oils because their pages say they perform at lower loads. At 8%, pour one candle with a C1 wick and one with a C2, and let a two-to-three-hour melt pool decide which you keep. Strong comes from a heavy base, a full melt pool and a proper cure, not from pushing the load to the ceiling; a dense oil overloaded on a small wick soots and throws less.
One line: a strong masculine candle is a heavy-based oil at the lowest load that works, on a wick that melts the full surface, cured long enough to judge.
The oil whose page makes the strength claim. "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%": the Mahogany Teakwood listing is ₹440.00 for 50 g, flat ₹8.80 per gram at every size. At 7% that is ₹92.40 of oil per 150 g candle.

What "strong" means: structure and base weight

Strong in the bottle and strong on a melt pool are two different things. Buy for the second.

When buyers ask for a strong masculine oil they usually mean one of three things: it fills the room when burning (hot throw), it smells loud with the lid off (cold throw), or it lasts through the burn instead of fading after twenty minutes. In our judgement the third is what brings repeat orders, and it depends mostly on what is in the base of the oil.

Why base-heavy oils read as strong

Top notes (citrus, mint, light spice) are the first thing a burning candle spends. Base materials (woods, resins, oud and incense accords, amber, tobacco, musk) evaporate slowly and keep coming off the melt pool for the whole burn. An oil with most of its stated structure in that group is more likely to hold its character at the doorway in the second hour. That is structural reasoning, not a measurement: CSI has no throw data for these oils, and the only strength claims below are the ones the product pages make themselves.

The ranking basis we use

We rank on what we can show you: the notes each page states, counted by whether they are heavy base materials; any throw wording on the page; the stated load range; price; and stock. Which woody sub-family each oil belongs to is a different question, answered in Woody Masculine Fragrance Oils for Candle Making; here we only care how much weight each oil carries.

Stated structure, counted · editorial classification of page notes
Heavy materials named on each page, against all notes named
Oil Heavy materials named on the page Heavy / total notes Page throw wording Candle load stated
Midnight Bakhoor Royale spiced incense, oud wood, smoky resin, amber, musk, balsamic warmth 6 / 6 none not stated
Woody Oud oud, patchouli, warm woody notes, amber, musk 5 / 7 none "candles (6-10%)"
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco vanilla cream, tonka bean, tobacco leaf, amber, soft musk 5 / 7 "strong throw at lower loads" "7-9% soy wax"
Saffron Cedarwood palo santo, wood, sandalwood, smoke, amber 5 / 9 none not stated
Mahogany Teakwood listing mahogany wood, teakwood, cedarwood, musk 4 / 7 "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%" 7–9% (soy)
Blue Ocean (for contrast) driftwood, musk 2 / 6 none "candles (up to 10%)"

Two readings of that table. The oil with the heaviest stated structure (Midnight Bakhoor Royale, 6 of 6 notes heavy) makes no strength claim, and the one that claims the strongest throw (the Mahogany Teakwood listing) names the fewest heavy notes of the five (4 of 7), with a fresh lavender-bergamot top over its base. Structure and page claims are both evidence; neither replaces your burn test. The contrast row shows why a cool aquatic will rarely be the "strong" candle in a men's range, however good it is.

Argued against our own interest: we would sell more oil if we told you strong means 10%. It does not. Two of these five pages cap candles at 9%, and one of them tells you it is strong at lower loads. Overloading a dense oil wastes money at ₹13.20 per extra percentage point on the Mahogany Teakwood listing, and can make the candle burn worse. We would rather you bought less oil and sold a better candle.

Five strong-structured masculine oils

Ordered by the strength of the evidence for a strong candle: page throw claim first, then whether the page states a candle load, then stated structure. Candle counts assume 150 g at 8%; for the two oils capped at 9%, 8% sits comfortably inside the range, and for the two oils with no stated load, 8% is a worked example inside the wax ceiling.

1
woody aromatic · page claims strong hot throw · 7–9%
Mahogany Teakwood Bath and Body Works Inspired Fragrance Oil
That is CSI's product listing name; the oil is CSI's interpretation, CSI is not affiliated with the brand, and the brand name must not appear on your labels. The page's own claim is the strongest on this list: "Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%", with "For wax melts, 8-10% delivers massive throw." Notes: "Opens with fresh lavender and crisp bergamot. Heart of mahogany wood and geranium. Base of teakwood, cedarwood, and musk." It describes itself as "IFRA Certified". Limitation: 9% is the page's candle ceiling; do not go past it because your wax allows 13%. Priced flat at ₹8.80 per gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so volume does not lower the per-candle cost.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50g ₹440.00 ₹8.80 4
100g ₹880.00 ₹8.80 8
500g ₹4,400.00 ₹8.80 41
1kg ₹8,800.00 ₹8.80 83
Oil per candle: ₹92.40 at 7%, ₹105.60 at 8%, ₹118.80 at 9%. Buy Mahogany Teakwood
2
tobacco gourmand · page claims strong at lower loads · 7–9%
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco Fragrance Oil
"Recommended load - candles: 7-9% soy wax (strong throw at lower loads)". That parenthesis is the most useful sentence on this page for a strong-candle buyer: start at 7%. Notes: "fresh brewed coffee and cocoa top notes, a vanilla cream and tonka bean heart, and a tobacco leaf, amber, and soft musk base"; the page says "IFRA Certified". Coffee gives an immediate cold throw; tobacco, amber and musk carry the burn. Limitation: vanilla and tonka are dense materials that can overwhelm a small wick, which is why this oil should always go into the C1-versus-C2 test. No 15 g listed.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
50g ₹449.00 ₹8.98 4
100g ₹899.00 ₹8.99 8
500g ₹4,399.00 ₹8.80 41
1kg ₹8,599.00 ₹8.60 83
Oil per candle at the 50 g price: ₹94.29 at 7%, ₹121.23 at 9%; ₹103.19 at 8% on the 1 kg price. Buy Coffee Vanilla Tobacco
3
oud · five heavy notes of seven · 6–10%
Woody Oud Fragrance Oil
Stated notes: "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk"; stated load "candles (6-10%)". Five of its seven named notes are heavy materials, and patchouli in the heart adds weight early. A verified 5-star review on its page describes "a warm, long-lasting scent and strong performance in candles"; another verified buyer gave it 4 stars. That is a customer's view, not a measurement. Limitation: it has the widest load range here (up to 10%), which tempts overloading; at 10% it needs ₹67.97 of oil against ₹54.37 at 8%. Test whether the extra 3 g earns its place.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹93.22 ₹6.21 1
50 gm ₹271.40 ₹5.43 4
100 gm ₹453.12 ₹4.53 8
500 gm ₹2,265.60 ₹4.53 41
1 kg ₹4,531.20 ₹4.53 83
Oil per 8% candle from 100 g: ₹54.37; each extra 1% adds ₹6.80. Buy Woody Oud
4
incense oud · six heavy notes of six · no candle load stated
Midnight Bakhoor Royale
One of the densest stated structures in CSI's masculine range (Sultan's Smoke is similar): "Top Notes:Spiced incense accord Middle Notes:Oud wood, smoky resin Base Notes:Amber, musk, balsamic warmth". Every named note is heavy. That is also its risk: the page states no candle load, so you work inside the wax ceiling (CSI 464 up to 10%) and start at 6%. In our experience, smoky, resinous oils like this are prone to soot on an undersized wick or at too high a load. Limitation: sold from 100 g only (₹799.00), priced at ₹7.99 to ₹8.00 per gram across sizes, and bakhoor reads as incense to some buyers; blind-test it.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
100g ₹799.00 ₹7.99 8
500g ₹3,999.00 ₹8.00 41
1kg ₹7,999.00 ₹8.00 83
Oil per 8% candle at 100 g: ₹95.88. Buy Midnight Bakhoor Royale
5
smoky woods · nine notes, five heavy · no candle load stated
Saffron Cedarwood
The most complex pyramid of the five: "Top: Citrus, Cardamom Middle: Palo Santo, Saffron, Violet Base: Wood, Sandalwood, Smoke and Amber". Smoke and amber under sandalwood give it a heavy, long base; citrus and cardamom give it an opening that the bakhoor oil lacks. The page states no candle load, so the wax ceiling governs; start at 6%. Limitation: two pricing facts to know. Its 15 g (₹6.92/g) is 2.2% cheaper per gram than its 50 g, which is unusual; and its 1 kg (₹6.87/g) is 33% dearer per gram than its 500 g (₹5.17/g). Ask on WhatsApp before ordering 1 kg.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8%
15 gm ₹103.84 ₹6.92 1
50 gm ₹354.00 ₹7.08 4
100 gm ₹696.20 ₹6.96 8
500 gm ₹2,584.20 ₹5.17 41
1 kg ₹6,867.60 ₹6.87 83
Oil per 8% candle: ₹84.96 at 50 g, ₹62.02 at 500 g. Buy Saffron Cedarwood

Load within the ceiling

The ceiling is where the maker stops vouching for the candle. It is not where the good candle is.

Every candle has two ceilings: the wax page's stated maximum and the oil page's stated candle maximum. The lower governs. Both are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. For dense oils this matters more than for light ones, because the failure at the top of the range is not "too strong" but "burns badly".

Governing load for each oil, by wax · 24 September 2026
The lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page's maximum
Oil Oil page maximum In CSI 464 (up to 10%) In CSI 468 or Chunks (up to 13%) Suggested test loads
Mahogany Teakwood listing 9% (soy) 9% 9% 7%, 8%, 9%
Coffee Vanilla Tobacco 9% (soy) 9% 9% 7%, 8%, 9%
Woody Oud 10% 10% 10% 6%, 8%, 10%
Midnight Bakhoor Royale not stated 10% 13% wax ceiling; we would not start above 10% 6%, 8%, 10%
Saffron Cedarwood not stated 10% 13% wax ceiling; we would not start above 10% 6%, 8%, 10%

For the two oils with no stated load, the wax ceiling is the only formal limit; the advice not to start above 10% in a 13% wax is our judgement for heavy, smoky oils, not a figure from any page. If a 10% candle of either passes cleanly and you still want more, test 11% and 12% as separate candles with the wick you chose, and stop at the first sign of soot.

What a percentage point costs

In a 150 g candle, 1% is 1.5 g of oil. On the Mahogany Teakwood listing that is ₹13.20 per candle at any size; on Woody Oud, ₹6.80 at the 100 g or 1 kg price. Worked example: dropping the Mahogany Teakwood candle from 8% to 7% saves ₹12.44 of oil and wax combined per candle, or ₹6,219.45 across 500 candles, if the 7% candle passes. The page tells you it may.

Weigh, do not pour by eye
Dense oils are viscous and cling to the jug. Weigh the oil into the jug on the scale, then weigh the wax in on top. A "splash more" of a heavy oil can take a 9%-capped oil past its ceiling without your noticing.

Wick adjustment for dense oils

Many "weak oil" complaints turn out to be wick problems.

A wick has to melt a full pool of wax and burn the fragrance that evaporates from it. Heavy oils change that job: dense materials like vanilla, tonka, resins and smoky accords can make the wax harder for a small wick to burn cleanly, and a wick that works for a light citrus oil can drown or soot with a heavy one. That is general candle-making experience rather than a measured result for these oils, and jar diameter matters more than anything, so the rules below are starting points. CSI's product data does not give wick sizes by jar; never treat any page as a definitive wick chart.

The wicks to test, and what they cost

Wick options at CSI · 24 September 2026
What each costs per candle, and when to reach for it
Wick Pack Price Per candle When to test it
Eco Candle Wicks, Thin (C1) 10 / 100 ₹59.00 / ₹590.00 ₹5.90 / ₹5.90 Starting point for a 150 g jar
Eco Candle Wicks, Thick (C2) 10 / 100 ₹94.40 / ₹944.00 ₹9.44 / ₹9.44 If the C1 melt pool is short with a dense oil
Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs (61 meters) roll + 100 tabs ₹706.82 ₹7.07 per tab, roll included When you want to cut your own heights
Performance Wooden Wicks, Imported 10 / 100 ₹590.00 / ₹4,130.00 ₹59.00 / ₹41.30 A premium look; test separately, burns differently

Stepping from a C1 to a C2 costs ₹3.54 per candle in packs of 10. It is the cheapest fix on this page, cheaper than one extra gram of any of these oils. Wooden wicks cost 30% less per wick in the pack of 100 than in the pack of 10, but at ₹41.30 each they are still the dearest option; test them as a separate series, because a wooden wick changes both the flame and the melt pattern.

Rules of thumb for heavy oils

Change one thing at a time. Wick and load together teach you nothing. Fix the melt pool before judging the throw. A pool that does not reach the edge by two to three hours means the wick is small for that jar and oil; the candle will tunnel and seem weak. Soot means too much fuel for the flame. Trim the wick to about 5 mm first; if it still soots, go down a wick step or lower the load by 1%. Centre the wick. An off-centre wick on a dense oil gives a lopsided pool that looks like a wick-size problem; a wick centring device (₹118.00 for 5) removes that variable. Trim between burns. A wick cutter (₹177.00) earns its keep on heavy oils, which are prone to mushrooming.

Mistake: blaming the oil for a tunnel. Fix: a candle that tunnels has a wick too small for its jar and oil. Retest with the next wick up at the same load before you change oils or add more fragrance. If you are unsure where to start for your jar, send us the inside diameter on WhatsApp.

The wick-and-load test, costed

Four candles per oil: three loads with a C1 wick, and the middle load again with a C2. Twenty candles in total. Every 50 g bottle covers it (36 g for three loads plus 12 g for the C2 candle); the bakhoor oil comes in 100 g, so you will have oil left for a retest.

1
Set the loads per oilMahogany Teakwood and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco: 7% (10.5 g), 8% (12 g), 9% (13.5 g). Woody Oud, Midnight Bakhoor Royale and Saffron Cedarwood: 6% (9 g), 8% (12 g), 10% (15 g). All in a 150 g candle, by total weight.
2
Wick three with C1, one with C2C1 on all three loads; C2 on a second 8% candle. Centre every wick. Label oil, load, wick and date.
3
Pour to the wax page, cure a full weekCSI 464: melt and pour 80–90°C, as its page states. None of these five oil pages states a cure; at least 48–72 hours is common practice, longer for soy, and for heavy oils we burn at day 7 and again at day 14. Soy-specific cure behaviour is in Best Masculine Fragrance Oils for Soy Candles.
4
Run the flow chart on the 8% pair firstBurn the C1 and C2 8% candles on different days, same room, two to three hours each. Melt pool, soot, doorway scent at 30 and 60 minutes. Pick the wick.
5
Then burn the other loads on the chosen wickIf the C2 won, pour fresh 7% or 6% and top-load candles on C2 before deciding load; those retests need extra oil and jars beyond the basket below. If the C1 won, burn the C1 candles you already have.
6
Keep the lowest load that passes on the right wickRecord the pair (load and wick) as your specification. That pair, not the oil alone, is what you reorder against. What a strong candle costs in materials

Worked example: the Mahogany Teakwood listing at 8% in the 150 g clear jar with CSI 464 and a C2 wick is ₹279.46; at 7% it is ₹267.02. Woody Oud at 8% with a C2 is ₹228.24. The CSI principle
Strength is structure plus a wick, not a bigger number.
A heavy-based oil at the lowest passing load, on a wick that melts the full surface, beats the same oil at its ceiling on a wick that cannot keep up.
"When a dense oil seems weak, look at the melt pool before you reach for the bottle."

Why trust this guide

CSI is the supplier of the oils, wax, jars and wicks discussed here; we do not make or sell finished candles. This page tells you to use less oil than the ceiling, to fix the wick before buying more fragrance, and not to buy Saffron Cedarwood by the kilogram without asking.

Every price, pack size and per-gram figure was taken from CSI's live store and verified on 24 September 2026; all five oils are in stock at every listed size on that date. Throw wording, notes, candle loads and IFRA wording are quoted from product pages; where a page states no candle load, we say so and work inside the wax ceiling.

The heavy-note classification, the ranking, the flow chart and the wick rules are our judgement; CSI has no throw measurements for these oils and does not publish wick sizes by jar. For wick questions, bulk pricing, GST invoicing, or MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Which fragrance oil has the strongest throw for men's candles?
CSI has no throw measurements. Of the masculine oils, two pages make strength claims: the Mahogany Teakwood listing ("Extremely strong hot throw in soy wax at 7-9%") and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco ("strong throw at lower loads"). Of the five we test here, Midnight Bakhoor Royale has the heaviest stated structure: every note its page names is a heavy base material.
Why does my strong-smelling fragrance oil have weak hot throw?
Usually a short melt pool (wick too small for the jar and oil), too short a cure, or an overloaded wick that soots. Check the melt pool at two to three hours, cure at least a week, and change one thing at a time before adding oil.
Can I add more than 10% fragrance oil for a stronger candle?
Only if both the wax and the oil allow it. CSI 464 stops at 10%. CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks allow 13%, but the Mahogany Teakwood listing and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco stop at 9% on their own pages, and the lower figure governs.
What wick for heavy woody or oud fragrance candles?
Start with a C1 and a C2 side by side at 8% in your jar and keep the one whose melt pool reaches the edge in two to three hours without soot. C1 and C2 are starting points; jar diameter decides. A C2 costs ₹9.44 each in a pack of 10.
Why is my oud candle producing black smoke?
Soot usually means more fuel than the flame can burn: a wick that is too long or too big, or a load too high for that wick. Trim to about 5 mm, then try one wick step down or 1% less oil, one change at a time.
Is Mahogany Teakwood fragrance oil cheaper in 1 kg?

Wax ceilings as stated on wax pages (CSI 464 up to 10%, melt and pour 80–90°C; CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%); ceilings are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. The heavy-note classification counts notes as named on each page and is editorial. Per-candle costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali (8 November 2026) is a calendar date. Wick guidance is general practice, not a wick chart.
